• The number of persons drawing benefit in January increased 222 to 860,000 from 703,000 in December.

• The number of claims received by U.I.C. offices in
January totalled 277,000, a decline of 172 from the
previous month and 222 from a year ago. An increase
of about 72 was recorded in both 1974 and 1975 between December and January.
