Preliminary Unemployment Insurance Statistics as the monthly catalogue (73-001) has become a quarterly
issue commencing in 1977.
Except for the series on claimants which has been discontinued, the content of this report remains unchanged.

• Claimants receiving unemployment insurance
benefit in February totalled 913,000, up
4% from January and 1% from a year earlier.
•
• Quebec accounted for 36% of the beneficiaries (35% in February 1976); Ontario,
27 (29%); the Atlantic provinces, 19%
(18%); British Columbia, 11% (11%) and
the Prairie provinces, 7% (7%).

benefit were minor attachment claimants,
that is, with less than 20 weeks of insurable employment in the qualifying
period. The proportion was the same for
both males and females.

U.I.C. offices in February, a drop of
25% from the previous month. A substantial decrease in claims usually occurs
between January and February.
