• Unemployment insurance
March amounted to $429
increase from February
$471 million disbursed

benefits paid in
million, a marginal
and 9% less than the
in March 1978.
mars 1978.
• During the first quarter, benefits totalled
$1,383 million, a decrease of 4% from the
same period in 1978. The decline is due to
fewer weeks of benefit paid as the average
weekly benefit remained virtually unchanged
at $109.75.
(1) The count of beneficiaries cannot be related to the benefit payments made during
a month. Whereas the latter figure covers
all benefit payments made during the
month, the count of beneficiaries represents the number of persons who qualified
for benefits for a specific week each
month regardless of when they received
payment.
