• Some 736,000 persons qualified for unemployment insurance benefits for the week
ended December 13, an increase of 17% from
November and up 8% from December 1979.

• The average weekly insurable earnings of
beneficiaries (regular benefit with no
earnings reported) in the qualifying period was $215 ($196 last year). Males
averaged $236 ($216) and females $180
($165).

• Payments made to claimants in December
amounted to $399 million which brought the
calendar year 1980 total to $4,393 million,
an increase of 10% over the $4,008 million
disbursed in 1979.

benefits in December numbered 303,000
which brought the calendar year 1980 total
to 2,762,000, an increase of 6% from the
year 1979.
