• Some 677,000 persons qualified for unemployment insurance benefits in May, a
drop of 15% from April and 6% fewer than
in May 1980.

• Thirty-three percent of the beneficiaries
were under 25 years of age, 46% were

• Unemployment insurance payments in May
totalled $376 million, a drop of 18% from
April but 2% greater than in May 1980.

advance in the average weekly benefit to
