• Some 1,256,000 persons drew unemployment
insurance benefits for the week ended May
21, a decrease of 13% from April. This
decline is usually observed between these
two months.

• Disburnements in May totalled $932 million, down 1% from April but up 39% from
the $671 million paid out in May 1982.

reached $5.066 billion, an increase of
48% from the sane period in 1982. The

• Claims filed by persons seeking benefits
in May totalled 228,000, a decrease of 6%
from April and 14 10 from May 1982.

• Theyear-to-date claimsnumbered

British Columbia and greater in other
provinces and the Territories.
