Benefit Payents(1)
Prestations servies(1)
• In August, benefits paid to claimants
totalled $811 million, up 20% from the
previous month. A major portion of the
Increase is due to extra processing days
in the current month.
aoQt.
• Benefits rose by 14% when compared with
August 1982.
(1) The count of beneficiaries cannot be
related directly to the benefit payments. Whereas the latter figure covers
all payments made during a month, the
ritjniber of beneficiaries relates to
Irsons who qualified for a specific
wek each month, regardless of when they
received payment.
-6• Payments for the year-to-date amounted to
$7.34 billion, a rise of 35% from the
first eight months of 1982. Most of the
increase is attributable to more weeks of
benefit paid as the average weekly benefit
advanced only 9% to $154.46.
prestations, puisque Is prestation hebdomadaire
moyenne n'a monte que de 9%, atteignant
$154.46.
Initial and Renewal Clai8
Demandes initiales et demandes de renouvellement
• Claims submitted by persons for unemployment insurance benefits in August totalled
248,000, down 4% from July and 10% fewer
than in August 1982.
• Quelque 248,000 demandes deprestations
dassurance-chOmage ont été recues en aoOt; il
s'agit l d'un recul de 4% par rapport a
juillet et de 10% par rapport a aoOt 1982.
• During the first eight months of 1983,
claims filed totalled 2.13 million, a drop
of 11% from the same period in 1982.
British Columbia showed the largest
decline (-17%).
