Reporting
Introduction
This chapter describes how a user can run interactive report, save and share report, schedule recurring
reports, view and customize a dashboard or share results.
This chapter contains the following sections:
•
SCE Reports, page 6-1
•
Running Reports, page 6-31
•
My Favorites, page 6-48
•
Report Gallery, page 6-51
•
Scheduled Reports, page 6-55
Cisco Insight Reporter provides a series of actions allowing users to run interactive reports, save and
share report definitions, schedule recurring reports, view and customize a dashboard or share results.
It significantly enhances the application usability because users are gradually driven to their preferred
reporting information. The wizard guides you through a step-by-step procedure where all mandatory and
optional parameters can be populated, then you can run, schedule, or save your report.
This new approach has several benefits:
•
It hides the complexity of the original template, structured as a list of report groups, each based on
specific traffic tables.
•
It reduces the redundancy of similar reports spread across the template.
•
It creates a friendly interface for operators not having a deep knowledge of the SCE or ASR1K
environments.
To access and display the report parameters, click the Report Wizard icon on the module launcher.
SCE Reports
The SCE report topics are organized in the following report groups:
•
P2P Group, page 6-2
•
Traffic Monitoring Group, page 6-2
•
Video, page 6-16
•

The CMTS/VLinks group of report topics provides statistics of bandwidth or volume of traffic used by
a virtual link. The reports are provided per service usage counter for the total volume used by the virtual
link. The volume consumption can be displayed per service for the virtual link.
The reports cannot be generated using data collected from an SCE platform running in Asymmetric
Routing Classification mode.

Date and Time
Date and Time
This is the third tab and is optional. It has some default settings (usually a time window of the last 24
hours, days or weeks, but this depends on the selected topic). You need to enter the details in the tab only
if you want to set a different time interval.
To enter the details in the tab with a different time interval, uncheck the Show Last 24 hours check box.
You can enter date and time by:
•
Entering the date and hours manually or using the up and down arrow buttons.
•
Clicking on the calendar dates.
For reports supporting a Start date or End date (based on SCE time stamps), you can select a timezone
option to run the report by:
•
Using the timezone of each SCE device, that is set as default.
When the format type is Start date or End date, the operator can also set the time aggregation from the
Aggregation drop-down list. Not all reports support time aggregation, whereas some reports only allow
a limited set of aggregation options. As a consequence, the aggregation drop-down list can be disabled
or show only limited values.
The effect of time aggregation on reports having a time-based X axis is the distribution of samples on
specific time intervals, as imposed by the selected aggregation value (i.e.: 30 minutes, hourly, daily…).
For these reports, the metric shown on the Y axis is averaged or summed according to the selected report.
As an example: cumulative volumes are summed, whether the instantaneous bandwidth is generally
averaged over the selected aggregation interval.

Topology
Topology
This tab is optional and dynamic, because it is not always required. It shows the topology view of the
selected networks. The trees view (custom or devices) allows either selecting devices easily or grouping
of devices to achieve the right view on the chart. You can save the tree configuration in the Report wizard
in the form of collapsed or expanded layers.
Topology can be drilled down up to the Links or Virtual Links level for SCE networks to include details
in the report generated.
In the case ASR1K network topology can be drilled-down up to the interface level. This tab will show
only monitored interfaces.
In the case ASR1K the custom parameter section of the Topology Tab would display the multi-select list
of VRF ids applicable for all devices associated with the network. The user will have the option of
selecting any name of VRF in the list and the same selection would be used to filter the report data.
Note
For ASR1K based networks, to make sure that the monitored interfaces are shown in the topology, check
the interface preferences in the Network Wizard. If there are no monitored interfaces for a device, it
cannot be selected to run the reports.
Please refer to the troubleshooting section of Cisco Insight Reporter v3.1 Installation Guide.

It shows the application attributes organized in a flat table that can be filtered on each column. Those
attributes are P2P, Encrypted, and Tunneled. Choose Granularity option enables user to view the report
output as per selected granularity. There are various options to select granularity like Category, Sub
Category, Application Group, and Application. The user sees the list of all the applications at first, he
can apply filter to see only the applications that he wishes. Applications are organized under Application
Groups, which are organized under Sub-Category which in turn are grouped under Categories. To select
application of an entire Category, the user can select to filter on Category column and then do a Select

Running an Interactive Report
The current implementation of reports causes all bandwidth samples below 1024 Kbps to be truncated
to 0 (zero) when the user select a higher measurement unit such as Mbps and Gbps.
When the application plots a stacked-area chart containing several "minor" services or applications,
these series will disappear when switching from Kbps to Mbps, thus the total amount of traffic could be
inaccurate.

information about the upstream component only,
the downstream, or both directions.
When displaying bidirectional service series
(when the traffic direction filter is set to "Both"),
a flag allows expanding each service contribution
into upstream and downstream components.
Drill-down reports
The application supports the drill-down feature on
interactive charts. When focusing on a specific
series, the operator can launch a new report based
on the selected series and related to the source
report.
This feature is used to navigate through different
reports when performing some specific analysis.
Note
Data Marker
Not all reports will support the drill-down
option.
It provides an interactive data indicator that can
be positioned on the plot to mark a specific
position in terms of coordinates. The data
indicator follows the series plot when moved on
the chart- so when it is moved in the X-axis
direction, the Y-axis positioning will follow the
plot automatically and vice versa.
The indicator must have a display which provides
information about its current location, for
example, the relevant X and Y axis percentage
value in the cumulative report.
Note
When printing or exporting the chart, you
can choose to display the indicator or not.

that will receive a notification on report batch completion and will have access to the report results as
well.
Scheduled reports run in background and are designed to produce a static output that can be sent via
