LORENZO

YAMAHA leArner bikes

Sweet learning curve. It’s your first time on two wheels and there’s so much to learn. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre and watch out for that errant car pilot who is looking right at you but hasn’t seen you. And which bike to choose out of the huge number on offer adds to the sometimes daunting first time experience.

At Yamaha we like to see you learn by example. Check out the flowing lines and pure concentration of Jorge Lorenzo as he leads his YZR-M1 onto yet another MotoGP world title. And know that the technology that wins races is in the DNA of all our bikes, no matter the size or application.

For Yamaha winning is the catalyst that spurs on our technical gurus at the Iwata dream factory. Because all the information that race teams generate is painstakingly fed back to the factory where it filters down to Yamahas on the showroom floor.

So if you ever wondered why your super scooter goes, handles and stops so well – not to mention its reliability and build quality - it’s because what we learn at the race track makes a major contribution to the development of all our products.

You could call it the sweet learning curve.

This year, Yamaha has refined existing models and introduces some entirely new road bikes such as the MT-03 sportster and the latest incarnation of the YZF-R15 sports commuter that are designed to offer the sweetest introduction to the world of two wheels.

Just remember that whatever type of Yamaha you choose from road oriented to scooter and right into the dirt, race winning DNA comes standard.

MT-03 in Midnight Black

MT-03

With its blend of roadster styling and supermoto performance, the new MT-03 is one of the sharpest handling, most exhilarating experiences available.

Like its big brother 1700cc V-twin MT-01, the

660cc single cylinder MT-03 is the mechanical embodiment and expression of Kodo, a word which means not only heartbeat or pulse, but also a pulsating drum beat that appeals directly to many of the senses.

And besides sounding very special, this machine has been created to deliver remarkable performance in a wide range of riding situations. With its highly responsive single engine delivering strong torque right across the rev range, the MT-03 is ready to deliver instant excitement at any rpm.

In the city this radically styled big single is one of the quickest and most rewarding ways to get from A to

B. And out on twisty country lanes this new superagile high-torque roadster-motard has the potential to pack in more action per kilometre than just about any other machine.

MT-03 keY FeATures

1 Yamaha’s engineers have created a new ‘forward mass’ silhouette which is characterised by the concentration of engine and chassis components ahead of the bike’s midway point. This muscular forward mass profile is further emphasised by a slim but forceful tail and a compact underseat exhaust.

2 This forward mass theme is accentuated by the Supermoto-style forward riding position in which the rider sits closer to the handlebars than on conventional big singles, to achieve an idealised weight distribution and enhanced handling agility.

3 With high levels of low to mid-range torque, this liquid-cooled engine has established a strong reputation with XT660 owners, and

Yamaha’s engineers decided that it was ideally suited as the base engine for the new MT-03.

The massive 5.9 litre, easily accessible air box draws air from the machine’s right side, and runs with a cassette-type filter for ease of maintenance. Optimised fuel injection calibration produces strong torque in the low to mid-speed range.

Torque feel has been enhanced further by the use of a road oriented secondary reduction ratio. Running a 15 teeth drive sprocket and 47 teeth rear wheel sprocket gives a reduction ratio of 3.13, making this radically styled big single extremely rewarding to ride.

To ensure better concentration of mass around the machine’s centre of gravity, the

MT-03 is equipped with a separate aluminium die-cast oil tank. The location and design of the oil tank plays an important role in achieving the forward condensed mass.

Compact mono chamber up-muffler with catalyser. Viewed from the rear, the system appears as dual mufflers, but they are in fact connected, and each muffler is protected by a resin shield for passenger comfort.

A tubular steel diamond truss-type frame is designed to give optimal rigidity for responsive handling performance and excellent rider feedback. This extremely strong design utilises the engine as a stressed member, and features a right side high tensile steel tension bar which counteracts additional forces generated by the new asymmetrical lateral rear suspension.

The lateral rear suspension system is unique, and underlines the special of the

MT-03. By moving the shock absorber to a sidemounted position, the MT-03’s chassis can be made much slimmer around the mid-section.

Locating the shock close to the engine helps concentrate mass around the centre of gravity, which enhances handling agility.

The beautifully-styled one-piece cast aluminium swingarm incorporates a relay arm that projects forward of the pivot point, where it connects with the base of the shock. Giving

120mm of rear wheel travel, the highly rigid onepiece casting pivots on the outside of the frame, and the whole design underlines the MT-03’s radical looks and innovative engineering.

Idealised geometry and 52% front wheel weight distribution is achieved by building an all-new chassis with a relatively compact wheelbase. This delivers outstandingly agile handling for maximum riding enjoyment.

High rigidity 43mm forks with 130mm of wheel travel. The new forks feature a compact aerodynamic fender, reducing unsprung weight and accentuating the bike’s clean lines.

15-litre nylon moulded fuel tank. Nylon moulding offers greater freedom in creating dynamic shapes. The uniquely-styled fuel tanks concentrated mass-forward design helps to achieve the 52% front wheel weight distribution and makes for a forward riding position.

The low weight of the newly designed

5-spoke 17-inch wheels ensures front and rear suspension work efficiently and effectively. Up front the 120/70-17 tyre grips the road, while the extra-wide 160/60-17 rear tyre delivers high levels of traction and drive.

Dual 298mm front discs with floating 2-piston calipers and large 245mm rear disc deliver powerful and progressive stopping power.

XJ6nl And FZ6r

Your flexible friend. A highly contemporary motorcycle concept dripping with the kind of style, sense of fun and sheer riding pleasure that today’s middleweight rider expects, both Yamaha’s XJ6NL and FZ6R models are dynamic and agile motorcycles.

With a riding character tuned for smooth and precise performance, they are designed to feel natural and intuitive, whether you’re negotiating the afternoon tin-tops or making long arcs out of narrow mountain roads.

With a low seat height and narrow chassis, these 600cc models suit experienced and new riders of many ages and sizes, who want a stylish middleweight ready for just about any situation.

These four cylinder models are versatile and come in two formats, the aggressively styled naked XJ6NL model and the fully faired FZ6R, both of which are Learner Approved Motorcycles.

Both share a contemporary and dynamic style that befits their status as cool and agile all-rounders that are ready to reflect rider intent like nothing else.

XJ6nl And FZ6r keY FeATures

1 The 600cc engine is tuned to have a strong torque character and offers a high level of agility rather than ultimate top rpm performance. Like every Yamaha, the XJ6NL retains an exciting edge, a high level of enjoyment and usability, and unquestionable levels of superior quality.

2 Comfortable ergonomics make less experienced riders feel much more confident and enable experienced riders to be fully in control with less effort.

3

One of the coolest and most desirable models in a hyper-competitive 600 category, these LAM models are genuine all rounders, designed to make the rider feel at home in town, on twisty back roads or on the highway with a passenger.

4 The tubular frame is designed to deliver easy handling, and its clean lines emphasise the bike’s slim appearance. Lightweight cast wheels keep unsprung weight low, allowing the 41mm front forks and Monocross rear suspension to deliver a smooth ride and good roadholding.

Like no other motorcycles on the market,

Yamaha’s XJ6NL and FZ6R combine exciting technology, high specification, great efficiency, unique riding pleasure, easy operation and a fresh design.

The 600cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke inline

4-cylinder engine has been designed and developed to deliver a creamy smooth band of easy-to-handle power.

High-compression cylinder-head has been developed for a better flow of fuel mixture, while a new fuel injection system optimises performance and ensures low fuel consumption.

A cam profile designed for strong and linear low to mid-range torque is employed, while a one-piece cylinder and upper crankcase provides good rigidity.

Clutch, gear-shift mechanism and gearbox ratios have all been designed to make sure the controls feel light, responsive and easy to operate.

For added rider comfort, both models are equipped with adjustable handlebars.

The construction and rigidity of the frame has been optimised by utilising a diamond type, high-tensile steel tubular design. The design of the frame provides enough space to optimally locate the airbox.

The tubular frame is manufactured with a minimum number of bends and welds and the engine supports the chassis as a stressed member with 4 rigid mounts.

Specially developed for this model; the

5-spoke cast aluminium wheel design keeps the unsprung weight low and ensures a light handling motorcycle.

A high quality front fork and monocross rear suspension are perfectly suited to the well balanced chassis, providing excellent road holding in a wide variety of conditions.

Passenger comfort is ensured with enough space to sit comfortably, a seat with anti-slip material and passenger handgrips all as original equipment.

Dual 298mm front discs and twin-piston calipers are specified for powerful braking with excellent feel and feedback.

With central mass concentration a key target, a central, 4-2-1 exhaust with midship muffler is located beneath the chassis, also helping to keep centre of gravity low.

YZF-R15 in Midnight Black

YZF-r15

Chip off the old speed block. Yamaha supersports and race bikes have a proud tradition of wearing the speed block motif. The latest in a long line of ‘R’ series machines is version 2.0 model of the single cylinder R15 sportster for 2013 that’s inspired by the genius of its larger capacity brothers.

With even more ‘R’ hallmarks than previously, the YZF-R15 will appeal to riders keen to own a piece of race bred heritage. And with a high level of user friendliness, the R15 will also appeal to riders who need to ride a motorcycle every day.

Tech heads are well looked after with a liquid cooled and fuel injected engine slotting into a Deltabox chassis boasting linked monocross suspension. Version 2.0 R15 sports a wider profile rear radial tyre, five spoke alloy wheels and fully redesigned bodywork including a sweet

R6 inspired rear end.

Plus with a forged aluminium piston running in an all aluminium DiASil cylinder you get the benefits of light weight, great heat dissipation, less oil consumption and high levels of wear resistance.

The only feature that sets it apart from its ‘R’ brothers is its 150cc capacity.

R15 - a chip off the old Yamaha speed block

YZF-R15 in Yamaha Blue

YZF-r15 keY FeATures

1 New R15 features improved aerodynamic performance at higher speeds while also giving a more dynamic look. The aerodynamic resistance value is 4% better than the previous model for improved high-speed performance.

2 The new cowl is characterised by a layered structure and is designed to actively draw in airflow for cooling effect, while also contributing to rider comfort by directing the outflow away with greater efficiency.

3 Wider 130mm radial rear tyre has a high level of rigidity, reducing excessive flexing of the tread, increasing grip and reducing rolling resistance contributing to better fuel economy.

4

New wheel design groups ten thinner spokes to form five pairs. This design achieves the necessary strength balance while creating a sense of lightness at the same time.

Long-life LED lamps are adopted to help create a rear view suggestive of the super sport class YZF-R6 model.

Large 220mm diameter rear disc brake adopted to achieve improved balance with the new rear tyre size, ensuring good braking power and operability. The larger disc is coupled with a piston-slide type single-pot caliper.

The newly designed muffler more upward slanted exhaust has a new protector and a carbon-look pattern on the surface as well as a model nameplate to add to the highperformance image and the feeling of quality.

The design of the end cap is also new.

The new seat design features a slip-resistant seat cover material and optimised cushion qualities for comfort and support. The 800mm seat height lets the rider maintain a more relaxed riding posture. The design also features a storage compartment under the rear seat.

In order to maximize the efficiency of the fuel injector, YZF-R15 version 2.0 is equipped with a large 3-litre air cleaner. The duct area of the intake duct was designed optimally for the flow of intake air.

YZF-R15 version 2.0 is equipped with a linked type monocross suspension that delivers a comfortable ride even two up.

DiASil cylinder is constructed using aluminium alloy with 20 per cent silicon content to create a very hard, reliable cylinder surface, making conventional iron sleeves obsolete. As a result, the entire cylinder is aluminium and delivers better heat dissipation and less weight.

Light and thin aluminium forged piston is the same type used in Yamaha supersport bikes. Reciprocating mass is approximately 20% less than an engine of the same displacement fitted with a conventional cast aluminium piston, offering optimal throttle response.

Lightweight fuel injection system uses only four sensors to gather large amounts of information relating to engine operations, which is sent to a small 26-pin ECU, which in turn calculates the optimum fuel supply.

The fuel supply component consists of a small, fuel pump, modularised regulator and filter, and a small six hole type injector, all of which come together to enable a lightweight, compact system

Hemispherical four-valve combustion chamber has allowed designers to fit the spark plug at the centre of the combustion chamber for better flame propagation and allows intake and exhaust valves to be laid out in the smallest size possible.

Liquid-cooled engine provides stable performance, reduce vibrations, less mechanical noise. Cylinder head design also promotes fuel efficiency. In conjunction with the fuel injection system, this combustion chamber contributes to comfortable riding during long-distance rides as well as during medium to high-speed riding..

Lightweight aluminium radiator maximises airflow for heat dissipation. This has enabled the creation of a lightweight, compact body while retaining stable performance.

R-series style Deltabox frame forms the basis for comfort and handling performance.

The synergy created by optimising longitudinal, lateral, and torsional rigidity delivers a solid riding feel and agile riding performance.

Either way, the WR250R is one of the most under-rated motorcycles on the market. Falling between the road and dirt sections it has found it’s own niche in the adventure market and has proved its value on a number of big trips.

Because it’s the little bike with the big heart.

TT-R250. The quiet achiever. Take a ride on the TT-R250 and you may be pleasantly surprised. Because the TT-R is the dirt bike version of the quiet achiever.

A bike that is fully capable of keeping up with the big boys when they get on the gas.

It’s DOHC six speed 250cc powerplant produces more than enough torquey horsepower to put a smile on your dial and hooks up in all sorts of gloopy conditions.

When the going gets slippy and the terrain starts to steepen, TT-R sniffs out traction while others succumb to wheelspin. It’s this functional approach to dirt bike riding that appeals to owners who dig the minimal fuss and even less maintenance approach.

Owners who also dig the two year factory warranty that comes on Yamaha trail and adventure bikes.

Why not quietly achieve on the TT-R250?

Wr250r keY FeATures

1 Long service intervals of 10,000km with valve clearance check at 40,000km intervals mean more time on the trails. This model also comes with a 24 month factory warranty.

2 Trick digital display LCD speedo has diagnostic function for fuel injection system, stopwatch and distance compensation tripmeter.

3 Liquid-cooled 4-valve engine with fuel injection features compact combustion chamber, 11.8:1 compression ratio and long service intervals.

Large diameter titanium intake valves and high lift cams with excellent follow and lift characteristics allow high rpm levels.

Weight saving wet sump engine lubrication system.

Three axis layout (the relative positions of crankshaft, main shaft and drive shaft) further concentrates mass for excellent handling.

Supersport type large capacity ACM (Alternative

Current Magnet) alternator provides reliable electricity supply for lighting, spark and fuel injection system. Spark is further aided by direct ignition coil.

Three section semi-double cradle frame adopts technology from the proven aluminium frames on the

YZ250F and WR250F.

Upside down 46mm diameter fork with 270mm stroke provides excellent cushioning.

Slim steel fuel tank is shaped for excellent knee grip. Handlebar, seating and footrest locations create a comfortable riding position for road or dirt.

XT250 And Wr250F

XT250. The legend continues. Thanks to the legacy started by the legendary XT500, Yamaha does not bestow the XT prefix to just any old bike.

And the 2013 XT250 is not just any old bike.

The new model comes fitted with fuel injection for clean burning, efficient performance. XT250 is a supreme example of all-road expertise that’s capable of getting you as far out of town and into nature as you want to go.

Its fuel-efficient 249cc engine is both strong and responsive, and comes mounted to a chassis with a high level or braking, handling and suspension performance.

The result is an evolution of Yamaha’s cult classic that has reached the highest level for this category – all without compromising the simple, rock-solid dependability for which Yamaha XTs are famous.

XT250 – the legend lives on.

WR250F. Untangle tight terrain. When it comes to 250cc enduro bikes, there’s little choice according to the retail charts - Yamaha owners have claimed this capacity as their own.

Maybe it’s the combo of pinpoint handling and awesome power to weight ratio that attract owners to the quarter litre WRF?

Or maybe it’s the tractable engine and five titanium valve layout, the controlled flex aluminium frame design… or the same enviable reliability record as its big brother that pulls the crowds.

We think it’s all of the above. Plus ask an owner and they’ll point to the ability of the WR250F to slice through singletrack like nothing else out there.

If you’re looking for the best way to untangle tight terrain, look no further.

Wr250F keY FeATures

1 Highly evolved high-revving five-titanium-valved engine starts – and restarts - with the push of a button.

2 Cool digital enduro computer offers speedometer, clock, tripmeter, etc., in basic mode—or pace management functions such as timer, distancecompensating tripmeter, average speed, etc., when switched to race mode.

3 Special WR camshafts, carburation, and exhaust and ignition systems work together to produce a quickrevving engine with great low- and midrange power.

4 Large-capacity radiators with reinforcements ensure maximum cooling efficiency with great strength.

5 ProTaper aluminium handlebar in forged triple clamp shaves weight and increases comfort.

37mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carburettor with throttle position sensor (TPS) ensures ultra-precise fuel/air mixing and lightning-quick throttle response.

Close-ratio five-speed gearbox tackles almost any terrain.

“No tools” airbox uses hinge-type quick-open lid.

Battery rides low for excellent handling.

Digital CDI ignition system delivers more precise spark and monitors engine speed to ensure optimal timing for fast, strong response during hard acceleration.

Lightweight exhaust system maximises engine power and allows hassle-free replacement of oil filter.

XT250: Blue & White

XT250 keY FeATures

6 A 249cc air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve, 4-stroke engine has a bore x stroke of 74.0 x 58.0 mm, and a compression ratio of 9.5:1. Engine is tuned to be outstandingly easy to use, even at walking speed, with excellent drivability in the mid- to high-speed ranges.

7 Producing maximum power at 7500rpm and maximum torque at 6500 rpm, the XT engine is characterised by sharp throttle response and smooth torque across the entire rpm range.

8 Excellent stopping power, feel and modulation… perfect for commuting or technical off-road riding.

Lightweight forged piston and plated cylinder contribute to engine responsiveness across the rpm range and excellent heat-dissipation characteristics.

New for 2013. Fuel injection offers smooth throttle response and easy starting in nearly all conditions.

Semi-double cradle frame is designed to optimise lateral and torsional rigidity, and contribute to mass centralisation.

Beefy front suspension has improved damping and rigidity balance for better comfort and feel. Lightweight aluminium under-bracket and meter assembly significantly lighten front end to improve handling.

Plush early and mid-range monocross suspension travel is complemented by a gradually stronger, more resistant cushioning at fuller compression for a comfortable ride and lighter, more agile machine.

Tight turning angle and short wheelbase provides a small turning radius of 1.9 metres. Outstanding manoeuvrability for the bush or the car park.
