Lux Values – Used as a Measurement of Light

Lux values are used to measure low light capabilities of cameras.

The word Lux is actually used to describe the amount of light received from a candle about three feet away.

A camera with a Lux rating of 1 Lux would be claiming to produce an image from the light supplied by one candle about three feet away from the object being recorded.

What about low light conditions?

Day mode Night mode

The Day Night function automatically switches from color mode during the day to black and white mode during low light conditions. It is designed to increase the camera’s light sensitivity in poor lighting conditions and at the same time reduce noise level in the images thus giving a quality picture. This technology is ideally suited for 24-hour surveillance.

Electronic Day Night

Electronic Day Night works well in situations where it is less likely that rapid motion will occur or objects remain stationary. As the shutter is slowed, the ability of an Electronic Day/Night camera

True Day Night

• True Day Night technology provides a mechanical device to remove the Infrared Cutout Filter.

When light levels are reduced the

Infrared Cutout Filter is used on all color cameras. light levels allows light that can not be seen by the human eye to provide added illumination making the image (seen in black and white) significantly brighter.

Good application: Dimly lit streetscape.

Outside applications

AGC for Sharpness and Luminosity

• Automatic Gain Control (ACG) is used to produce usable images in low-light conditions. AGC works basically as a form of amplification; the camera will automatically boost the images received in order to produce a clearer picture.

The obvious advantage of this feature is that the camera will produce images in lower than normal lighting conditions.

DNR function removes the noise that occurs in video signals, particularly when Automatic Gain Control function is used in low light conditions.
