Software Product Description
PRODUCT NAME:
MINC/BASIC,
Version 1
DESCRIPTION:
MINC/BASIC is a computational, graphics and laboratory data acquisition and control package for scientific-product development and for clinical applications. It is designed for easy and fast programming of
laboratory data acquisition and control tasks by users
unfamiliar with computers. MINC/BASIC programs
can display graphic data and exchange data and
commands with laboratory instruments.
MINC/BASIC systems are already generated and the
user is "in BASIC" when the system is turned on. All
features of the operating system are accessed from
BASIC. They are designed for the novice programmer
to be easier to use than similar features on conventional operating systems.
BASIC is a high-level conversational programming
language developed at Dartmouth College. It uses
simple English-like statements and familiar mathematical notations to do operations. Because of its
conversational structure. BASIC is simple enough for
the inexperienced programmer. BASIC can nonetheless be used to control all MINC/BASIC system resources.
MINC/BASIC has a variety of features for writing, editing, and running user programs. The screen text editor uses special function keys to make program
editing easier.
The graphics calls in MINC/BASIC plot two singlevalued functions with a resolution of 512 points on the
x axis and 190 pOints on the y axis. Other graphics
features include automatic scaling, shading, and interpolation.
MINC/BASIC includes commands for the control and
monitoring of experiments through the standard
IEEE-488 Interface or optional MINC plug-in modules
for:
• analog to digital conversion
• analog preamplification
• analog multiplexing
• digital to analog conversion
• digital input
• digital output
• timekeeping (crystal clock)
MINC/BASIC commands display characters on the
video graphics CRT screen in a variety of formats
including reverse video, flashing, boldface, underline,
and combinations.
