APC Smart-UPS 5000UXI uninterruptible power supply User's Manual

American Power Conversion 5000UXI is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) designed to prevent blackouts, brownouts, sags and surges from reaching valuable electronic equipment. Small utility line fluctuations are filtered out and equipment is isolated from large disturbances by internally disconnecting from the utility line and supplying power from its external batteries until the utility line returns to safe levels. The 5000UXI is suitable for installation in a temperature-controlled indoor area, free of conductive contaminants, with a temperature range of 0 to 40°C (+32 to +104°F). The equipment is intended to be connected to a three wire AC outlet (two poles plus ground) and the receptacle must be connected to appropriate branch circuit/mains protection (fuse or circuit breaker).

Frequently Answers and Questions

How do I connect the external batteries to the UPS?

The battery pack connectors are color coded; the 48 Vdc UXBP48M connector is blue. Battery pack connectors are also keyed to prevent improper connection. Do not try to install battery packs with connectors that are a different color. The SU5000UXI can support a maximum of 10 battery packs.

How do I program the number of external battery packs connected?

Use PowerChute® plus version 5.x for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT. Install the software per the instructions on the CD. Click on Configuration. Click on UPS Operating Parameters. Adjust the External Battery Pack field to the appropriate number of external batteries. Click OK.

What happens if the UPS experiences a power outage?

The UPS will automatically switch to battery power and continue providing power to your connected devices. You will have a certain amount of backup time depending on the load and the number of battery packs connected. The UPS will warn you before the battery is fully depleted.

How do I know if the battery needs to be replaced?

If the battery fails a self-test, the UPS emits short beeps for one minute and the replace battery LED illuminates. Perform the self-test procedure to confirm replace battery conditions. The alarm stops when the battery passes the self-test.
