The PIXMA iP4000R Photo Printer offers users high speed, excellent quality, and the
freedom of wireless printing as far away as 164 feet/50 meters. Family members on a
wireless network in a home office, kitchen or bedroom can all have access. A dual paper
path means there’s no need to manually adjust paper for documents or photos, while
2-sided printing capability offers creative options and minimizes paper waste. Canon’s
individual ink tank system increases ink efficiency as the entire family shares one printer.

Addition to Standard
An easy, streamlined interface ensures that users with a wireless network setup will be
ready to print wirelessly in as few as three clicks. The printer has a built-in IEEE802.11g
interface, and is also fully compatible with the previous 802.11b standard. The iP4000R
printer also supports WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access), and is versatile in
adapting seamlessly to mixed environments containing both Windows
and Macintosh computers.

Users can view print status from any computer on the network, whether or not the
printer is in use. The system identifies the user current user with a unique status
display. Print jobs received while the printer is busy are automatically queued in the
order received.
For wired LAN printing, the printer features standard wired 10base-T/100base-TX,
compatible with a wide range of network environments.
Ultra-fast Engine Speed
The iP4000R printer boasts fast, quiet operation. It features a new, independent drive
DC 4-motor system and high-speed paper feed mechanism. In real terms, this means
that users will experience single-color printing at up to 25 pages-per-minute**, color

2-way Paper Feeding
The printer has a built-in Paper Feed Cassette as well as the conventional Auto Sheet
Feeder, which means two different types of paper can be loaded at the same time.
Combined with three options for setting the printer driver paper source on the
computer, this allows for a variety of print scenarios:
With the printer driver paper source set to Paper Feed Switch, users can simply press
the printer’s Paper Feed Switch to alternate between the different papers loaded in each
feeder (for instance letter-size plain paper and 4 x 6 inch photo paper),
eliminating the need to physically unload and reload the selected paper.
With the printer driver paper source set to Paper Allocation, users can assign letter-size
plain paper as the paper to be fed from the Cassette. This way, jobs to be printed on
letter-size plain paper will automatically be fed from the Cassette regardless of the
Paper Feed Switch setting on the printer. When paper other than letter-size plain paper
is selected, it will automatically be fed from the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Users can set printer driver paper source to Continuous Autofeed for large volume print
jobs. With this setting, the printer will print from one feeder until the paper runs out,
then switch automatically to the other feeder. Since each feeder can hold 150 sheets,
users can print up to 300 sheets without adding paper!
Space Saving
Users with limited installation space can simply remove the auto sheet feeder and print
exclusively from the cassette feeder, allowing the printer to be positioned snugly
against a wall.
Auto Duplex Printing
Double-sided printing is available on both plain paper and photo paper, from both the
Auto Sheet Feeder and Cassette Feeder. This versatility opens up a range of creative and
convenient options for users.

Canon’s exclusive FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) highperformance print head differs from competitors’ offerings in both its design and
manufacture to deliver a superior combination of quality and speed.
High Quality
High quality ink jet photo printing is a function of the size, uniformity and accurate
placement of the ink droplets. The iP4000R uses microscopic droplets of 2 and 5 picoliters
to reduce graininess and provide rich gradation. However reducing the size of ink
droplets alone is not enough, because smaller droplets require even higher precision in
uniformity and placement. Canon addresses this issue by forming relevant sections of
the print head in an integrated process, as opposed to bonding together separate parts
(a method used by competitors). Moreover, the FINE manufacturing process employs
photolithography to produce sub-micron level precision in the profile and dimensions of
nozzles, ink ejection openings and ink supply ports.

Canon’s FINE Technology resolves two additional ejection issues. The first is that ink
droplets are ejected only after they have been fully separated from the nozzle head, so
there’s no breakage in the droplet. This helps ensure the consistent ejection of ink
droplets of the specific prescribed volume. The second is that power is concentrated
efficiently in ejection. This powerful ejection helps overcome the effect of air resistance,
so droplets are aimed with greater precision and placed more consistently.

Fast Performance
In order to achieve the fastest possible print speeds while maintaining ultra-high print
quality, ink must be ejected simultaneously from a large number of closely positioned
nozzles. High density placement of small, short nozzles reduces the number of passes
necessary for printing and increases head drive frequency. Here again, Canon avoids the
manufacturing methods used by competitors, instead employing integral formation via
photolithography to allow for microscopic nozzles with sub-micron precision. Bonding
and other manufacturing processes used by competitors make it impossible for them to
achieve the nozzle size, quantity and density of nozzles produced by FINE, so while
adequate quality can be achieved with slow multiple passes, Canon’s combination of
speed and quality cannot be matched.
Canon Think Tank System
Canon’s exclusive Think Tank System helps to control printing costs*, an important
consideration. This efficient system employs individual ink tanks for each color so that
users replace only the color that runs out, rather than an entire cartridge containing
unused ink. In addition, a unique low-ink sensor alerts users as ink levels become lower
(15%, 10% and 5%), so they can be prepared with a new tank as needed.

The iP4000R printer incorporates Camera Direct, which supports both Bubble Jet Direct
and PictBridge technology. This means that users can expect fast, high-quality direct
printing when they connect to a compatible digital camera or DV camcorder†††, whether it
is a Canon or any other brand that supports the PictBridge standard.
The PIXMA iP4000R Photo Printer is bundled with a wide range of software† that allows
even inexperienced users to achieve creatively exciting and professional-looking
materials quickly and easily.
Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0
Easy-Photo Print 3.0 combined with PIXMA Technology makes display-worthy portraits
truly possible, even for beginners, right at home.
Lab Quality Retouching really lives up to its name. Users can not only correct for red-eye,
but the latest version of Easy-PhotoPrint actually brighten faces in back-lit photos, helps
sharpen faces in out-of-focus photos, aids in providing digitally smooth complexions
and helps remove blemishes.
Lab Quality Trimming uses the rule of thirds for professional-quality recomposing and
trimming. The trimming screen displays the image divided into thirds by dotted lines,
both vertically and horizontally, with intersections that can then be dragged to create a
well-balanced portrait across the entire screen.
High-volume batch printing allows the user to print all images together once they’ve
been corrected and trimmed, a significant time saver.
The program makes it easy to organize a photo collection as it grows. Create index
sheets with thumbnails and file names – no special settings required.
Users can print photo data, including exposure time,
F number and ISO speed in addition to image size and
color-space information. This makes it easy to see what
settings give optimal results for specific types of scenes.
With the printer’s Auto Duplex capability and
Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0, creating double-sided photo albums
is as easy as putting photos into a conventional album.

This program takes the frustration out of printing web pages by helping to ensure that
any web page printed fits the sheet perfectly.

SI Sensor Supported
Recent Canon digital camera models offer SI (Super Intelligence) sensor technology that
records image orientation when photos are taken. The printer’s software recognizes this
information and automatically rotates images for proper viewing. This is a major
convenience, particularly with large batches of images.
