When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed,
including the following:

Do not handle plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands.
Do not use without dust container or filter(s) in place.
Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free
of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline, or use in
areas where they may be present.
Keep your work area well lighted.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade
wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does
not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician
to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

The cleaner is designed to pick up dirt and dust particles. Avoid picking up hard or sharp
objects with the cleaner to prevent clogs, filter tears and possible motor damage.

DO NOT OIL the motor at any time. The bearings are permanently lubricated
and sealed.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE
NOTE: Assemble completely before using.
Remove and identify parts to be assembled.

HOW TO USE
Use the vacuum cleaner to sweep hard floor surfaces or vacuum surface litter from
carpets.
Variable Speed with Control
Switch
The control switch knob turns the motor
on or off and regulates the motor speed
to control the amount of suction.
To turn the motor ON, turn control knob
right.
To increase power for deep cleaning,
turn all the way right.
To decrease power for light cleaning,
turn control knob left.
To turn motor OFF, turn knob all the way
left.

Use the convenience handle for easy stair
cleaning or better control in some areas.

HOW TO MAINTAIN
Routine maintenance helps avoid unnecessary service calls. Be sure to empty dust
container and clean motor filter after each use to keep vacuum cleaner operating
efficiently. The filter must be securely attached before using. Failure to replace filter
will allow dust to enter motor section which will damage the vacuum cleaner.

NOTE: Unplug electrical cord and turn off power switch before servicing. Never
operate vacuum cleaner without dust container.

Clean Filters
Check and clean filters as needed. Remove filters to shake them vigorously and brush
off dust and lint. Both filters are washable, see instructions below.
NOTE: Unplug electrical cord and turn off power switch before servicing. Never
operate vacuum cleaner without filters.
Motor Filter
Clean motor filter after each use. Replace
filter if damaged.
Pull motor filter
from frame

To remove motor filter from frame, pull
back on rubber gasket at top of the filter
and remove from frame.
To replace motor filter onto frame, pull
new filter over frame and secure lip on
frame into gasket.

Clean final filter as needed.

Washable Filters
If filters need further cleaning, launder
them in warm water using a mild detergent.
Air dry thoroughly before replacing filters
into cleaner.
Replacement Filters
If filters are damaged or extremely soiled, replace them.
Use replacement motor filter, part 54865 and final filter, number 38596.
Both are available from a local dealer or The Eureka Company.
Cleaner Care
NOTE: Turn off power switch and unplug electrical cord before cleaning unit.
To keep vacuum cleaner looking new, it can be wiped with a damp cloth and mild soap
solution, then thoroughly dried. Never use any type of chemical as they can damage
the cleaner. When not in use, store cleaner in a clean, dry place.

The base of the Sanitaire Upright cleaner is warranted for five years from the original date of purchase.
Extended Warranty for Upright Cleaner
The Eureka Company will, at its option, repair or replace a defective cleaner or cleaner part that is covered by this warranty. As a matter of warranty policy, the Eureka
Company will not refund the consumer’s purchase price.
What The Eureka Company Will Do
• Parts of the cleaner that require replacement under normal use, such as disposable dust bags, filters, drive belts, light bulbs, and brush roll bristles.
• Damages or malfunctions caused by negligence, abuse, or use not in accordance with the Owner’s Guide.
• Defects or damages caused by unauthorized service or the use of other than Genuine Eureka parts.
What This Warranty Does Not Cover
Your Sanitaire cleaner is warranted to be free from all defects in material and workmanship in normal household use for a period of one years. The warranty is granted only
to the original purchaser and members of his or her immediate household. The warranty is subject to the following provisions.
