C ongratulations on your purchase of Excalibur

Electronics’ radio-controlled Mitsubishi Lancer

Evolution VIII Scale car. This full-function model has features that include air-filled rubber tires, telescopic antenna, front-wheel steering trimmer and sporty decals. The radio transmitter is also included.

Your Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII is easy to use, but be sure to use it safely. Before starting, please read this manual thoroughly, especially noting safety, care and battery information. Keep this manual for reference.

Battery Installation:

Make sure that the On—Off Power Switches on both the car and the transmitter are set to “Off” before installing any batteries. We recommend using alkaline batteries for best performance.

Car Battery Installation:

Open the battery compartment, located on the bottom of the car, by sliding the latch with your thumb in the direction of the arrow. (See diagram below.)

Lift the battery cover off and then install the 3 AA batteries (not included), making sure to match the polarity (+ and -) with the diagram inside the battery compartment. (See diagram below.) Then replace the battery cover.

The legendary King Arthur brandished a magic sword, Excalibur, from which we take our company name. With this unique weapon in his hands, he could not be vanquished.

Although Excalibur Electronics can’t claim the magical secrets of Merlin, King

Arthur’s court wizard, sometimes our patented technology may make it seem as if we could. The radio-controlled Mitsubishi

Lancer Evolution VIII car is another unmatched innovation of Excalibur

Electronics.

We make you think.

Remote Control Transmitter Battery Installation:

Find the battery compartment on the back of the transmitter. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw. Remove the battery cover by sliding the latch with your thumb in the direction of the arrow. Install one 9V battery (not included) in the compartment, making sure to match polarity with the diagram inside the battery compart-

ment. (See diagram below). Then replace the screw and tighten gently.

(See also Battery Information on page 9.)

Maintenance and Care:

• Never drive the vehicle on a wet floor, or in sand, mud, rain or snow.

These conditions can damage your vehicle.

• Do not expose the vehicle to extreme temperatures.

• When storing your vehicle, please remove the batteries from the vehicle and the transmitter.

• Protect your vehicle’s wheel mechanism from foreign objects such as lint, hair and dust by using a small brush, tweezers or a small piece of cloth tied to the tip of a toothpick to wipe the wheel off.

• Use only a dampened cloth to clean the vehicle. After cleaning, use a dry cloth to wipe off all the water. Never use any chemical agents to clean the vehicle.

Helpful Hints:

• If the vehicle is not responding to the transmitter, make sure the car is not beyond radio signal contact by moving the vehicle nearer the transmitter.

• If the vehicle starts to lose power, replace the vehicle’s batteries.

• If the vehicle starts to move slowly, this can be caused either by weak wheel mechanism. Check the batteries or by foreign objects in the wheel first, and clean, if necessary,

4 by using the instructions listed above in Maintenance and Care. If the wheel is clean, replace the vehicle’s batteries. Remember that the 9V battery in the transmitter will last longer than the 3 AA batteries in the vehicle.

• When the transmitter range decreases, replace the battery in the controller.

• Your control of the car may be interfered with by someone using a

CB radio near you. If this happens, move the car and transmitter away from the CB radio.

Caution:

• Do not apply any electrical shocks to either the vehicle or transmitter.

• Do not run the car during a thunderstorm.

• Do not touch the vehicle’s wheels when the vehicle’s Power Switch is turned “On.” This is extremely dangerous.

• Do not leave the vehicle or transmitter near sources of heat or under direct sunlight for extended periods of time. This may damage the sensitive electronic instruments within the vehicle and transmitter.

• Do not operate the vehicle near small children, as this can be very dangerous.

• Always select a safe place to run your vehicle. Never drive your vehicle in the street.

• Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the toy being charged.

• Rechargeable batteries are only to be recharged under adult supervision.

Operation:

Extend the telescopic antenna of the controller to full length for best performance. For maximum range of control, always keep both antennae straight up.

Set the car and transmitter Power Switches to “On.” The car is ready for use. Use the transmitter’s control levers to steer the car. (See diagrams

5

on next page).

6

Trim Switch Control:

The switch is located on the underside of the vehicle between the two front wheels and is used to align the wheels for consistent straight-line driving. (See diagram below).

Trouble Shooting:

IF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE:

• Are the vehicle and transmitter Power Switches set to “On”?

• Is the vehicle too far away from the transmitter?

• Is the metal tab in the battery cartridge flattened so it doesn’t touch the tip of the battery?

IF THE VEHICLE DRIVES SLOWLY:

• Are the batteries exhausted?

IF YOU EXPERIENCE POOR RANGE CONTROL:

• Is the battery in the transmitter exhausted?

• Is there strong interference in the area from CB radios or other interferences?
