If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

1 Notification to the Local Telephone Company

On the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other information, the US number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment. You must, upon request, provide this information to your telephone company.

The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of these devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line as determined by the

REN, you should contact your local telephone company.

A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for details.

Notes

• This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone company.

• Party lines are subject to state tariffs, and therefore, you may not be able to use your own telephone equipment if you are on a party line. Check with your local telephone company.

• Notice must be given to the telephone company upon permanent disconnection of your telephone from your line.

• If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line, ensure the installation of this product does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a qualified installer.

2 Rights of the Telephone Company

Should your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm the telephone network, the telephone company shall, where practicable, notify you that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant such action, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue service immediately.

In case of such temporary discontinuance, the telephone company must:

(1) promptly notify you of such temporary discontinuance; (2) afford you the opportunity to correct the situation; and (3) inform you of your right to bring a complaint to the Commission pursuant to procedures set forth in

To use this phone, you need an RJ11C type modular telephone jack, which might look like the one pictured here, installed in your home. If you don’t have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.

Important Installation Information

• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.

• Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.

• Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.

• Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.

• Temporarily disconnect any equipment connected to the phone such as faxes, other phones, or modems.

Important Installation Guidelines

• Install telephone near a telephone (modular) jack.

• Avoid sources of noise, such as a window by a busy street, and electrical noise, such motors, microwave ovens, and fluorescent lighting.

• Avoid heat sources, such as heating air ducts, heating appliances, radiators, and direct sunlight.

• Avoid areas of excessive moisture or extremely low temperature.

• Avoid dusty locations.

• Avoid cordless telephones or personal computers.

Installing the Phone

Connecting the Telephone Line

Choose the best location to install your speakerphone. Your speakerphone should be placed on a level surface such as a desk or table top, or you may mount it on a wall.

NOTE: The unit is shipped from the factory for placement on a level surface.

1. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset jack and the other end into the jack on the left side of the base.

2. Plug one end of the straight telephone line cord into the back of the base and the other end into a modular telephone jack.

3. Adjust the ringer volume switch to the desired listening level.

The unit is properly installed if you pick up the handset and hear the dial tone. If you don’t hear a dial tone recheck all the installation steps.

Installing the Wall Mounting Bracket

Your telephone may also be mounted on a wall plate

(not included).

NOTE: To prevent the handset from falling out of the cradle while the phone is hanging on the

wall, you must rotate the handset hook 180°

(located on the base). (See diagram below)

1. Rotate the hook 180°. (Refer to Dia. 1A)

2. Feed the line cord through the groove and wrap the cord around the track on the bottom of the base.

3. Feed the line cord through the groove on the opposite side of the track, and plug the end into the modular telephone jack.

4. Slip the mounting holes (on the bottom of the base) over the wall plate posts and firmly slide the unit down into place.

Adjusting the Ringer Volume

You may control the ringer volume level with the switch located on the side of the base.

= ringer tone will be loud

= ringer tone will be low

= telephone will not ring

Telephone Operation

Speakerphone

For hands-free operation and convenience, this unit is equipped with a speakerphone.

For best speakerphone performance, avoid the following:

• Areas with high background noise. (The microphone might pick up these sounds and prevent the speakerphone from going into the receiving mode when you finish talking.)

• Surfaces affected by vibration.

• Recessed areas such as in a corner, under a cupboard, or next to a cabinet, which can generate an echo effect.

Note the following guidelines when using the speakerphone:

• Stay reasonably close to the phone so that you can be clearly heard by the person to whom you are talking.

• You can adjust the speaker volume by adjusting the

speaker volume switch on the right side of the base.

• The speakerphone indicator comes on when the speakerphone is in use.

IMPORTANT: Before using the speakerphone, pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone. If you do not hear a dial tone, recheck or repeat the installation steps.

Handset

1. Pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone.

2. Dial the number you want to call.

3. When finished, hang up the handset.

Speakerphone

1. Press the speaker button on the base and listen for a dial tone.

2. Dial the number you want to call.

3. When finished, press the speaker button to hang up.

Answering a Call

NOTE: Make sure the ringer volume switch is set to HI or LO, or the phone will not ring.

Handset

1. When the phone rings, pick up the handset.

2. When finished, hang up the handset.

Speakerphone

1. When the phone rings, press the speaker button to answer a call.

2. When finished, press the speaker button to hang up.

You may switch between the speakerphone and the handset during the dialing process or anytime during a conversation.

Speakerphone to Handset - Pick up the handset to disable the speakerphone. The speakerphone indicator turns off.

Handset to Speakerphone - Press the speaker button, and then hang up the handset. The speakerphone indicator turns on and the handset is disabled.

Volume

You can control the volume of both the handset receiver and the speakerphone.

While using the handset or speakerphone, adjust the receiver or speaker volume switch, located on the base, to the desired listening level.

Flash

Press the flash button to activate customer calling services such as call waiting or call transfer, which are provided by your local phone company.

Redial

You may redial the last number you called by pressing the

redial/pause button after you get a dial tone.

NOTE: The Redial feature holds in memory the last phone number you dialed (as many as 32 digits). If you pressed any numbers after dialing the phone number, (for example, when accessing a voice-menu system) those numbers also are redialed.

Mute

You can use the mute button to interrupt a phone conversation to talk privately with someone else in the room.

A conversation can be muted with speakerphone or handset use.

1. Press mute to activate the mute feature. The mute indicator turns on.

2. Press mute again to deactivate.

NOTE: Switching from speakerphone to handset cancels mute.

Memory

Store as many as 13 memories (three priority, ten two touch) for programming your most frequently dialed telephone numbers. You can store up to 16 digits in each priority key (A,

B, C), or in each of the numeric keys 0 through 9. Numbers must be stored with the handset lifted or the speaker button depressed.

IMPORTANT: All numbers stored in memory will be erased if the phone line is disconnected from the wall telephone phone jack for more than five minutes. Write down any stored numbers you do not want to lose.

Storing a Number in Memory

To program priority keys:

1. Make sure the telephone is properly installed. Pick up the handset and listen for the dial tone. If you don’t hear the dial tone, recheck or repeat the installation steps.

2. Press the speaker button or pick up the handset.

3. Press the store button.

4. Dial the number to be stored.

5. Press the store button again.

6. Press the A, B or C button.

7. Press the speaker button or hang up the handset.

To program frequently called numbers:

1. Press the speaker button or pick up the handset.

2. Press the store button.

3. Dial the number to be stored.

4. Press the store button again.

5. Press one of the 10 memory location buttons 0-9.

6. Press the speaker button or hang up the handset.

Adding a Pause to the dialing Sequence

Use the redial/pause button to insert a delay in the dialing sequence when storing a number, for example, when you need to dial 9 to get an outside line.

Press redial/pause at the point in the dialing sequence in which a pause is required.

The pause time is four seconds, if an additional four seconds are needed, press the redial/pause button again.

Changing a Stored Number

Change a stored number by replacing it with a different number.

You can dial numbers from memory when using the handset or speakerphone. When you get a dial tone, press the A, B, or

C to dial the priority number, press the dial button followed by the memory location (0-9) to dial the frequently called number you want to dial.

Chain dialing from Memory

Use this feature to make calls which require a sequence of numbers, for instance if you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance number. By dialing each part of the sequence from memory. The following example shows how you can use chain dialing to make a call through a long distance service:

Troubleshooting Guide

No dial tone. Won’t dial out

• Check the hook switch. Make sure it fully extends when the handset is lifted from the cradle.

• Make sure speakerphone indicator comes on (if using speakerphone.)

• Unplug the phone, wait 30 seconds, and plug the phone back in.

Then lift the handset to check the dial tone.

Phone doesn’t ring

• Make sure ringer volume switch is set to LO or HI.

• You may have too many extension phones on your line. Unplug some extension phones.

• Check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, see solutions for

“No dial tone.”

Low handset or speaker volume

• Check the receiver or speaker volume settings.

Can’t be heard by other party

• Make sure phone cord is securely plugged in.

• Make sure extension phones are on the hook at the same time you’re using the phone. It is normal for the volume to drop when additional extension phones are used at the same time.

Memory dialing

• Make sure you entered numbers correctly. (See “Memory.”)

• Make sure the telephone is properly installed. Pick up the handset and listen for the dial tone. If you don’t hear the dial tone, recheck or repeat the installation steps.

General Product Care

To keep your telephone working and looking good, follow these guidelines:

• Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps).

• DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.

• Avoid dropping and other rough treatment to the telephone.

• Clean with a soft cloth.

• Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damage the finish.

• Retain the original packaging in case you need to ship it at a later date.

Instalar el Teléfono

Para Conectar la Línea Telefónica

Escoja la mejor localización para instalar su teléfono con altavoz. Su teléfono con altavoz debe ser colocado sobre una superficie plana y nivelada como una mesa o un escritorio, o usted puede instalarlo sobre una pared.

NOTA: El aparato viene del fabricante para ser colocado sobre superficies planas.

1. Conecte un extremo del cable espiral dentro del enchufe en el auricular y el otro extremo en el enchufe al costado izquierdo de la base.

2. Conecte un extremo del cable liso en la parte posterior de la base y el otro extremo en un enchufe modular de pared.

3. Ajuste el selector de volumen del timbre (“RINGER”) al nivel de volumen deseado.

El aparato está adecuadamente instalado si usted levanta el auricular y escucha el tono de marcar. Si usted no escucha el tono de marcar, verifique los pasos de la instalación.

Montaje Sobre Pared

Su teléfono puede ser montado en una placa de pared (no incluida).

NOTA: Para evitar que se caiga el auricular de su sitio sobre la base mientras está colgado en la pared,usted debe girar el gancho para colgar

180° (localizado en la base).

1. Gire el gancho 180°. (Refier al Dia. 1A)

2. Alimente el cable de línea liso a través de las ranuras y enhebre el cable en la pieza provista para ello en la parte de abajo de la base.

3. Alimente el cable en la ranura que está en la pieza del lado opuesto a donde está enhebrado, y conecte el extremo en el enchufe modular telefónico.

4. Deslice los agujeros para montaje de la base sobre los postecitos de pared y deslice firmemente el aparato hacia abajo hasta que quede en su lugar.

Volumen del Timbre

Usted puede controlar el nivel de volumen de timbre con el interruptor ubicado debajo del botón Redial (Remarcado) en el auricular.

= el tono del timbre será alto

= el tono del timbre será bajo

= el teléfono no timbrará

Operación Básica del Teléfono

Altavoz

Para la operación a manos libres y para su conveniencia, este aparato está equipado con un altavoz.

Para el mejor funcionamiento del altavoz, evite lo siguiente:

• Áreas con mucho ruido de fondo. (El micrófono puede recoger estos sonidos y evita que el altavoz se cambie a modalidad para recibir cuando usted termina de hablar).

• Superficies afectadas por vibración.

• Áreas remetidas, como una esquina, abajo de una gaveta, o junto a un gabinete, los cuales pueden generar un efecto de eco.

Siga las siguientes pautas cuando utilice el altavoz:

• Quédese razonablemente cerca del teléfono para que pueda ser escuchado claramente por la persona con la que está hablando.

• Usted puede ajustar el volumen del altavoz ajustando el botón de volumen (“speaker volume switch”), localizado en el costado derecho de la base.

• El indicador de altavoz se ilumina cuando el altavoz está en uso.

IMPORTANTE: Antes de utilizar el altavoz, levante el auricular y escuche para ver si hay tono de marcar.

Si usted no escucha el tono de marcar, verifique o repita los pasos de la instalación.

Auricular

1. Levante el auricular y escuche para ver si hay tono de marcar.

2. Marque el número al que usted quiera llamar.

3. Cuando haya terminado, cuelgue el auricular.

Altavoz

1. Presione el botón speaker en la base y escuche para ver si hay tono de marcar.

2. Marque el número al que usted quiera llamar.

3. Cuando haya terminado, Presione el botón speaker para colgar.

Para Contestar una Llamada

NOTA: Asegúrese que el selector de timbre esté en la posición de alto (“HI”) o bajo (“LO”), o el teléfono no timbrará.

Auricular

1. Cuando el teléfono timbre, levante el auricular.

2. Cuando haya terminado, cuelgue el auricular.

Altavoz

1. Cuando el teléfono timbre, presione el botón speaker para contestar la llamada.

2. Cuando haya terminado, presione nuevamente el botón speaker para colgar.

Usted puede alternar entre altavoz y auricular durante el proceso de marcado o en cualquier momento durante una conversación.

Altavoz a Auricular- Levante el auricular para desactivar el altavoz.

El indicador del altavoz se apaga.

Auricular a Altavoz- Presione el botón speaker, y después cuelgue el auricular. El indicador del altavoz se ilumina yel auricular se desactiva.

Volumen

Usted puede controlar el volumen, tanto del auricular como del altavoz.

Mientras esté utilizando auricular o el altavoz, ajuste el volumen de la bocina localizado en la base, para programarlo en el nivel deseado.

Servicios Especiales

Presione el botón flash para activar los servicios especiales como llamada en espera o transferencia de llamada, que le son provistos por su compañía telefónica local.

Volver a Marcar

Usted puede marcar el último número marcado simplemente oprimiendo el botón redial/pause después de que usted recibe un tono de marcar.

NOTA: La función de Volver a Marcar retiene en la memoria el último número que usted marcó (hasta

32 dígitos). Si usted oprimió cualquier tecla después de marcar el número telefónico (por ejemplo, para tener acceso a un sistema de menú de voz), esos números también serán marcados).

Enmudecedor

Usted puede utilizar el botón enmudecedor para interrumpir una conversación telefónica y poder hablar privadamente con una persona en la misma habitación. Esta función puede ser utilizada en una conversación con el altavoz o con el auricular.

1. Presione el botón mute para activar la función del enmudecedor.

2. Presione nuevamente el botón mute”para desactivarlo.

NOTA: Al cambiar de altavoz a auricular se cancela el enmudecedor.

Memoria

Almacene hasta 13 memorias (tres prioritarias, y diez de dos toques) para programar los números telefónicos que usted llama más frecuentemente. Usted puede almacenar hasta 16 dígitos en cada tecla prioritaria (A, B, C) o en cada una de las teclas numéricas (0 al 9). Los números deben ser almacenados con el auricular descolgado o el botón speaker oprimido.

IMPORTANTE: Todos los números almacenados en la Memoria serán borrados si el teléfono es desconectado del enchufe de pared durante más de cinco minutos. Anote cualquier número telefónico que usted no quiera perder.

Para Almacenar un Número en la Memoria

Para programar las teclas prioritarias:

1. Asegúrese que el teléfono esté instalado adecuadamente. Levante el auricular y escuche el tono de marcar. Si usted no escucha el tono de marcar, verifique o repita los pasos de la instalación.

2. Presione el botón speaker o levante el auricular.

3. Presione el botón store.

6. Presione el botón A, B, o C.

7. Presione el botón peaker o cuelgue el auricular.

Para programar números marcados frecuentemente:

1. Presione el botón speaker o levante el auricular.

2. Presione el botón storer.

3. Marque el número que se quiera almacenar.

4. Presione nuevamente el botón store.

5. Presione una de las 10 localizaciones de memoria 0-9.

6. Presione el botón speaker”o cuelgue el auricular.

Cómo Introducir una Pausa en la Secuencia de Marcar

Utilice el botón redial/pause para introducir una pausa en la secuencia de marcado de un número telefónico almacenado, por ejemplo, después de que usted marca 9 para obtener línea externa.

Presione el botón redial/pause en el punto de la secuencia de marcado en donde se requiere una pausa.

El tiempo de la pausa es de cuatro segundos. Si se necesitan cuatro segundos adicionales, Presione el botón redial/pause nuevamente.

Cómo Cambiar un Número Almacenado

Cambie un número almacenado simplemente reemplazándolo con un número diferente.

Cómo Marcar un Número de la Memoria

Usted puede marcar el número desde la memoria cuando utiliza el auricular o el altavoz. Cuando usted escuche el tono de marcar,

Presione el botón A, B, o C para marcar un número prioritario,

Presione el botón store seguido de la localización de memoria (0-9) para marcar un número llamado frecuentemente que usted quiera marcar.

Cómo Marcar en Cadena desde la Memoria

Utilice esta función para hacer llamadas que requieren una secuencia de números, por ejemplo si usted usa una tarjeta para llamar frecuentemente a un número de larga distancia. Se marca cada parte de la secuencia de marcado desde la memoria. El siguiente ejemplo le muestra cómo usted puede marcar desde la memoria para hacer una llamada a través de un servicio de larga distancia:

Solución de Problemas

No hay tono de marcar. No da línea.

• Verifique el gancho para colgar. Debe extenderse completamente cuando el auricular se levanta de la base.

• Asegúrese de que el indicador del altavoz se ilumina (si está usando el altavoz).

• Desconecte el teléfono, espere 30 segundos, y vuelva a conectarlo.

Después, levante el auricular para ver si da línea.

El teléfono no timbra

• Asegúrese que el selector de timbre (“ringer volume switch”) esté en la posición de bajo (“LO”) o alto (“HI”).

• Usted puede tener demasiadas extensiones de teléfonos en su línea. Intente desconectar algunas de las extensiones de teléfono.

• Verifique que haya tono de marcar. Si no hay tono de marcar, vea las soluciones para “No hay tono de marcar.”

Volumen del auricular y altavoz muy bajos

• Verifique las programaciones de volumen del auricular y del altavoz.

A usted no le escucha la otra otra persona

• Asegúrese de que el cable telefónico esté conectado adecuadamente.

• Asegúrese de que las extensiones del teléfono estén colgadas mientras usted está en el teléfono. Es normal que el volumen disminuya cuando se utilizan otras extensiones del teléfono al mismo tiempo.

La función de marcar

• Asegúrese de que inscribió los números correctamente. (Vea la sección “Memoria”).

• Asegúrese de que el aparato esté adecuadamente instalado.

Levante el auricular y escuche el tono de marcar. Si usted no escucha el tono de marcar, verifique los pasos de la instalación.

Cuidado General del Producto

Para mantener su teléfono funcionando bien y con buena apariencia, observe las siguientes pautas:

• Evite poner el teléfono cerca de calentadores (calefactores) de ambiente y dispositivos que generen interferencia eléctrica ejemplo, motores o lámparas fluorescentes).

• No lo exponga a la luz solar directa o a la humedad.

• Evite que se caiga el teléfono, así como el maltrato del mismo.

• Limpie el teléfono con un trapo suave

• Nunca use un agente de limpieza fuerte ni un polvo abrasivo, ya que esto dañará el acabado.

• Retenga el empaque original en caso de que necesite embarcar el auricular en el futuro.
