A Type 1 cartridge is reversible with both sides A and B being usable. The disc cannot be removed from the cartridge. Type 2 cartridges are not reversible and only have side A. The disc in a Type 2 cartridge can be removed and replaced.

Connect the internal SCSI interface cable to your SCSI host adapter card and then connect the other end to the socket on the back of the DVD-RAM. The stripe or red-colored side of the ribbon cable connects to pin 1 on the drive's SCSI connector which is found next to the drive's power connector. Carefully push the SCSI connector into the socket, making sure it fits snugly.

The DVD-RAM kit requires the following: 2MB of free hard disk space, 16MB of RAM, a Pentium-based PC (or compatible) 133MHz or higher, PCI 2.1 compliant expansion slot, VGA Card, Plug and Play BIOS support, Microsoft Windows 95 or higher and amplified stereo speakers.

All SCSI devices attached to your computer are assigned a SCSI ID number from 0 to 7. Your DVD-RAM's SCSI ID must be set so that its ID number does not conflict with any other device's SCSI ID in your system. This SD-W1101 DVD-RAM's SCSI ID is set to 4 at the factory. Note that your SCSI interface card in most cases has a SCSI ID of 7. You can find the jumper settings for all eight possible ID numbers in the document.
