Installing Batteries

This translator uses two CR-2032 lithium batteries. Here is how to install or replace them.

Warning: When the batteries lose power or are removed from this translator, your settings and any information that you have entered into the databank may be erased.

1. Turn your translator over.

2. Slide off its battery cover in the direction of the triangle.

3. Install the batteries with their plus signs facing you.

4. Replace the battery cover.

Resuming Where You Left off

You can turn off this translator at any time.

When you turn it on again, the screen that you last viewed reappears, with all of your settings and databank information intact.

Getting Started

To Set the Message Language

The first time you use this translator, you must set the message language. The message language is the language of screen instructions and menu items.

Translating Words

You can use this translator to translate a word from a source language into a target language. You can change the source language at a source language screen by pressing the desired language key.

Translating Words

Follow the Arrows

The flashing arrows on the right of the screen show which arrow keys you can press to move around the screen.

Correcting Misspellings

If you misspell a word in any language, or if you enter a word that is not contained in this translator, a list of corrections appears. Use or to highlight a correctly spelled word and press

ENTER

Typing Special Characters

You can type accent marks, diacritical marks, and non-English characters, but they are not needed to find matches.

First type the desired letter and then repeatedly press or until the desired character is displayed.

You also cannot type punctuation marks. Simply type the word without punctuation marks.

This product has a databank which can save up to 30 names and phone numbers.

To Add an Entry

Using the Databank

Setting a Password

You can use a password to keep the information in your databank private. If you turn off your translator and try to use the databank, you must supply the password.

Warning! Your password is not retrievable from the databank, so always write and save it in a separate location. If you lose or forget your password, you must reset this translator to use the databank, thereby losing all the information. To reset the translator, hold

CLEAR

and press

ON/OFF

1. From the Databank menu, press repeatedly to highlight

Set Password

and press

2. Type a password and then press

You can type up to eight letters.

3. To test the password, press

twice and select

Keep Copies of Important Data

Warning! Your databank is stored in memory as long as the batteries supply power. If the battery loses all power, the information in the databank will be permanently lost. Always keep written copies of your important information.

Playing the Games

To Play Hangman

Hangman challenges you to type the letters of a mystery word.

1. Press

MENU

2. Highlight

Games

from the Topics menu and press

ENTER

to select it.

3. From the Games menu, select

Hangman

.

4. Type letters.

The ?’s represent letters of the mystery word.

The numbers show how many guesses remain.

5. To reveal a single letter, press

SPACE

6. To reveal the whole word and end the round, press

NEXT

.

7. Press NEXT to play a new round.

To Play Word Blaster

In Word Blaster, you try to guess the mystery word before all its letters appear.

1. From the Games menu, select

Word Blaster

Letters will appear one by one.

2. Press

when you think you know the word.

3. To get a hint, press

4. Type your guess.

If you are correct, you win.

If you are incorrect, type another guess or press

To Play Quiz

In Quiz, a word or phrase is shown and you must guess its translation.

Changing the Game Language

The games are played in the current source language unless you change it. To change the language of the games, go to the Games menu and press to select the Language menu. Then press until the desired language is highlighted and then press

ENTER

Note: Changing the language of the games does not affect the source or message language.

Franklin for a period of one year from the date of purchase. It will be repaired or replaced with an equivalent product (at Franklin’s option) free of charge for any defect due to faulty workmanship or materials.

Products purchased outside the United States that are returned under warranty should be returned to the original vendor with proof of purchase and description of fault. Charges will be made for all repairs unless valid proof of purchase is provided.
