However, it is not designed for underwater photography and should not be rinsed in water or placed in water. Please read through the instruction manual to learn how to handle the camera correctly. 0: allowable x : not allowable Test of Protective Class 4 Install the equipment as it would normally be used. Place a watering can 300 mm to 500 mm above the instrument and pour water from vertical to 180 degrees. The water should be poured with a force of 10¢/min and cover a square meter area of the outer surface of the equipment per minute. The test should be carried out for at least 5 minutes. Power Switch The power is turned on by setting the power switch to position [1] and is turned off by setting it to position [0]. Turn off the camera when it is not used to save power. (See figure [1] .) Film Loading DX-coded film with ISO ratings from 100 to 400 can be used. Camera film speed is automatically set when the film is inserted. * Camera film speed is set to ISO 400 when ISO 400 or faster films are inserted and set to ISO 100 when films slower than ISO 400 are inserted. Do not expose the film to direct sunlight when it is inserted. Do not open the back cover when there is water or sand on the camera or your hands. The camera will be damaged if water or sand enters it. Clean the camera before opening the back cover to load the film. 1. Press down the back cover release lever to open the back cover. (See figure [2] .) 2. The film can easily be loaded by fully inserting the tower end of the film cartridge first and then inserting the top end. (See figure 13] .) This camera is tightly sealed for weather-resistent protection. When the camera is brought from a place where the atmospheric pressure is relatively low such as in an airplane or a high mountain to a place where the atmospheric pressure is normal, the pressure inside the camera falls, making the back cover difficult to open. In such a case, first open the battery chamber cover, and then the back cover. 3. Align the film leader with the film load mark. (See figure [4] .) * Insert the film between the guide rails and remove any slack. 4. Make sure that there is no dirt on the seal before closing the back cover. Make sure that the "two tabs in the back cover firmly lock in place when the cover is closed. The camera will not be weather resistant if the cover is imperfectly closed and it may also let in light. (See figure [5].) 5. Turn on the power and press the shutter button once to automatically load the film and “1” is displayed in the film counter. If “1” is not displayed, the fiim has not been loaded properly. Load . | ; it again. (See figure [6] .) Photography : Keep a distance of at least one meter between the subject and the camera. When taking pictures - outdoors, keep the sun behind you to take good pictures. Caution: Make sure not to put your fingers or hair in front of the autofocus finder, lens, light sensor window and built-in flash. Water drops or dirt on the lens protective glass, autofocus window and light sensor window will make it impossible to take good pictures. Clean them before picture taking. 1. Turn Y power, place the subject in the autofocus frame [— ] and compose the picture. (See figure [7] .) * The lens cannot be focused at distances less than one meter. 2. Depress the shutter release button halfway and the green iamp in the finder lights up. The picture can now be taken. If the green lamp blinks, this indicates that the built-in flash is being charged or that battery power is too low. In this case, release the button and wait a few seconds before pressing it again. The picture can be taken if the green lamp in the finder lights up. (See figure В.) * When the green lamp is blinking, the flash is not charged. Release the shutter release button and wait a few seconds for the flash to be charged. “If the green lamp is still blinking after waiting 10 seconds or more, the batteries should be replaced. Flash Photography 1. The built-in flash in this camera is automatically activated when available light is not sufficient for proper exposure. 2. The table on the right shows the distance ranges that will produce good pictures. —— «ый — Focus Lock Photography Focusing is pertormed in the autofocus trame [— ]. When the subject is not in the autofocus frame, use the focus lock to take the picture. Focus Lock Operation Place the subject in the autofocus frame [—} and press the shutter release button halfway to focus. The subject will stay in focus as long as the shutter release button is kept at the halfway position and the green lamp is lit. Now recompose the picture and press the shutter release button fully down to take the picture. (See figure [9] .) * The focus lock is released and the green lamp goes off when the shutter release button is released. * If you change the distance between the camera and the subject, release the focus lock and refocus. * The focus lock cannot be used if the green lamp blinks when the shutter release button is pressed halfway (see Flash Photography Section 2 for details). Selt-Timer Photography This function allows the photographer to include himself in the picture. Caution: When the electrode and ring inside the cover are wet or dirty, wipe them clean with a soft and dry cloth. * Up to 30 rolls of 24-exposure film can be taken with a new lithium battery assuming that the flash is used for about 50% of the pictures. (According to Pentax testing conditions) Battery Check When the battery is properly inserted and the shutter button is pressed halfway, the green lamp at the center bottom of the finder lights up or blinks. (See figure [16] .) * The camera does not operate when the battery has been used up or has been improperly inserted. * As the battery depletes, flash recharging and film winding/rewinding will take longer. Replace the battery as soon as you notice this. Handling Precautions 1. This is not an underwater camera and it may not be possible to repair it if it is immersed in water. Contact authorized service facility. 2. Sand or mud entering the camera may damage the camera. Do not place it directly on a sandy beach. It is not designed for professional or other taxing uses. 3. The camera is damaged if dirt, mud, sand, dust or water enters the camera when the film or battery is replaced. Note that repairs of such damages are chargeable even during the war- ranty period. Remove any dirt or sand from the weather-resistant seals. A damaged packing will not keep the camera weather-resistant, Have your agent replace such a seal as soon as possible. After use wipe off any dirt or water on the camera with a soft, dry cloth. If dirt is persistent, use a moistened cloth to wipe it off and then swab the water with a dry cloth. Do not use paint thinner, benzene or other solvents for cleaning the camera. Do not store or leave the camera for a long time in places where the temperature is high. Moisture condensation will form in the camera when it is brought into a warm room after shoot- ing in cold weather. Put the camera in the camera bag or a vinyl bag before bringing it in to lower the temperature change. Take out the camera when the temperature change is less drastic. 9. A camera is a precision instrument. Do not drop it or bang it against objects. Have it inspected when it is exposed to strong shock or pressure. 10. The camera operates normally within a temperature range of 50°C to -5°C. 11. The camera contains high voltage circuits. To prevent electric shock and other hazards, do not disassemble the camera. 12. The camera should be returned in for service every year or every other year to keep it in proper working order. It is also a good idea to have it inspected when it has not been used for a long time or before taking important photographs. омо à > DATABACK OPERATION NOTE: THIS IS APPLICABLE TO THE PC-606W DATE MODEL ONLY. © Mode button @ Select button € Adjust button O Battery cover fixing screw Changing the Mode Each time you press the Mode button @ , the mode in the LCD panel changes in succession from A "Year-Month-Day” to 6: “Day-Hour-Minute" to €: “————” to D ‘Month-Day-Year” to ЕЁ “Day-Month-Year”.
