New versatile ways to enhance
your communication
The new VPL-P Series from Sony provide outstanding brightness,
excellent resolution and great flexibility.
What’s more, each projector has specific features to meet specific requirements. With three
different models of portable desktop projectors,
Sony provides solutions that meet a wide range
of projection (or installation) needs for different
users. Users can range from presenters in corporate meeting rooms, teachers in auditoriums
to brand managers in fashion retail outlets.
Flexible use
Installation Flexibility
The VPL-P Series can be floor or ceiling mounted,
if a fixed installation is more appropriate.
The built-in digital keystone correction, together
with the easily-attached optional lenses, enables
you to customise your projector to virtually any
application environment ranging from long to
short distance, front or rear projection.
High brightness and resolution
The VPL-P Series from Sony incorporates the
latest LCD-panel technology and provides an
outstanding combination of on-screen image
quality and brightness. Both the VPL-PX11 and
VPL-PX15 provide light output of 2000 ANSI
lumens with true XGA (1024 x 768) resolution,
while the VPL-PX40 provides outstanding
brightness of 3500 ANSI lumens with the same
native resolution. High-quality images can be
projected even in conditions of high ambient
light.
Sophisticated design
The sleek and elegant looks of these projectors
add style to any presentation. The built-in height
adjuster ensures the optimum projection angle
and projector noise will not distract from your
presentation - the projectors run very quietly
with the exhaust positioned on the front of the
unit so that the discharged air is kept away from
the audience.
2
Portability
The VPL-P Series projectors are compact and,
with their retractable carrying handle, couldn’t
be easier to carry. The projectors can be moved
from room to room, bringing bright and clear
images anywhere they are used.
Useful control functions
The VPL-P Series are supplied with an infra-red
remote control unit including functions such as
Mouse, Digital Zoom (up to four times) and
Image Freeze. Furthermore, each projector
incorporates unique features which control and
verify their status.
VPL-PX11
The right performance to
impress your audience
The VPL-PX11 has it all – and can do it all, either placed
on a table or mounted on the ceiling. Whether showcasing
business or educational presentations, images or video,
the VPL-PX11 will leave your audience impressed.
By incorporating a variety of useful functions, this stylishly
designed projector will enhance your presentation.
High brightness and resolution
Other functions
• Freeze function
Displays a freeze-frame while preparing
or switching to the next image. This can
be controlled via the supplied remote
control unit.
• Multi-language on-screen display
The VPL-PX11 combines the latest 0.9-inch LCD-panel technology with a 200 W UHP lamp to provide light output of 2000 ANSI
lumens with true XGA (1024 x 768 pixels) resolution, so highquality images can be projected even in bright environments.
Flexible inputs
The VPL-PX11 projector accepts a wide variety of input signals,
including Composite Video, S-Video and RGB, as well as computer signals up to SXGA. The VPL-PX11 also has two RGB
inputs to allow multiple connections as well as an RGB output
to connect a local monitor. And, with presets for 37 different
signals, images can instantly be reproduced in the most suitable
signal mode.
Guides you through a straightforward input
source selection and picture set-up.
• Built-in stereo speakers
Adds extra audio impact to heighten
the effectiveness of any presentation.
• Digital keystone adjustment
Compensates digitally for unwanted
“trapezium” picture distortion via the
On-Screen Display or supplied remote
control unit. Images can be projected
with the correct geometry even where
installation space is limited.
• APA (auto pixel alignment)
Control functions
The VPL-PX11 can be controlled via the supplied remote commander RM-PJM12, by infra-red or by a cable connected
between the projector (S-Control) and the remote.
In addition, the VPL-PX11 is equipped with an RS-232C Port to
control and to sense the status of the projector from a control
room.
The VPL-PX11 is USB-ready, which means the projector can be
controlled by a computer, using the Projector Station* application software. This software also helps to organise presentation
materials for quick access – files stored in the software can be
directly opened with the Function keys on the remote control
unit.
Takes the headache out of projector set-up,
offering single-button “press and play”
display optimisation for the best picture
performance every time.
• 4-times digital zoom
Any part of the projected image can be
enlarged during a presentation to assist
in conveying a clear message.
* PROJECTOR STATION version 3 software requirements: Microsoft Windows 98,
Windows 98 SE, Windows Me or Windows 2000 operating system.

VPL-PX15
Innovative presentations with
the VPL-PX15 network projector
Wireless peer to peer
(ad-hoc)
While the VPL-PX15 has the same chassis, design and
features as the VPL-PX11, the Sony VPL-PX15 brings
networking capability to portable projectors. This nextgeneration projector will take your presentations to a
higher level.
Wireless LAN
PC Card
Wireless peer to peer (ad-hoc) presentations
The VPL-PX15 is the first Sony projector to include a wireless
Peer to Peer (Ad-hoc) networking capability. Where a network
environment is not available, this technology enables you to set
up a wireless network between your PCs and the projector,
using a wireless LAN PC Card*. That means you can run your
presentations by communicating with and transferring data
wirelessly to the VPL-PX15. By doing away with the problem of
cable connections between PC and projector, this development
makes an important contribution to the smooth running of presentations and eliminates the trouble of disconnecting and connecting PCs when several presenters are involved.

LAN
Presentations and control over the network
In offices with a network environment, the VPL-PX15 projector
connects via a built-in 10Base-T/100Base-TX interface and then
communicates with any PC on the network. The projector can
even access the internet directly using the pre-installed webbrowser. A wireless infrastructure can also be provided with the
use of a wireless LAN PC Card and an access point*. What’s
more, the network connection can be used for controlling multiple projectors from a central control room via TCP/IP. The
E-Mail report function will send out fault reports or status
reports.
* Recommended LAN PC Card, Wireless LAN PC Card, PC Memory Card and access
point may vary by area. For details, please contact your nearest Sony dealer.

Application software for presentation control
The VPL-PX15 comes with Sony Presentation Viewer, Image
Viewer and File Manager application software. The Presentation
Viewer enables you to prepare and run PowerPoint presentations (PPT, PPS), Word documents (DOC) and Excel (XLS)
spreadsheets, while the Image Viewer makes JPEG/GIF/BMP/
PNG presentations possible. Presentation files can also be added
or deleted in the projector memory using File Manager.

VPL-PX40
High impact and quality images
for your visual communication
With its unique design and features, the VPL-PX40 is perfect for showcasing presentations, video and images in
medium to large-sized meeting rooms and auditoriums
as well as environments with high ambient light.
Furthermore, with the latest Sony technology, such as
Dynamic Digital Enhancer and 3D Gamma Correction,
optimal picture and video quality is guaranteed.
In addition to the useful functions incorporated in the VPL-PX11 and VPL-PX15,
the VPL-PX40 has a set of unique features.
• Direct power on function
This unique function means the projector is
powered-up automatically as soon as AC
Power is supplied.
Outstanding brightness
and resolution
Combining the unique new Sony 0.99-inch LCD-panel
technology with a 265 W UHP lamp, the VPL-PX40 provides
outstanding light output of 3500 ANSI lumens with true XGA
(1024 x 768 pixels) resolution. As a result, high-quality images
can be projected in almost any lighting condition.
• Security function
The VPL-PX40 can be protected with a
password which is required after disconnecting the projector from the AC current.
This feature makes the projector unattractive
to thieves.
• Free-tilt angle
A wide range of inputs
The VPL-PX40 projector accepts a wide variety of input signals,
including Composite Video, S-Video, RGB, as well as computer
signals up to UXGA (1600 x 1200 pixels). With four RGB inputs
and one RGB output, the VPL-PX40 can be used by virtually any
computer and even employ multiple connections. Moreover,
with presets for 52 different signals, images can be instantly
reproduced in the most suitable signal mode.
Installation flexibility
The VPL-PX40 can be customised to virtually any application
environment, ranging from long to short distance and front or
rear projection, simply by replacing the standard zoom lens with
one of two optional lenses. The free-tilt angle combined with
advanced digital keystone correction ensures that detailed and
geometrically correct images are produced. This allows for
holographic and other screen applications, making the VPL-PX40
the first choice for retail outlets too.
Projector control
The VPL-PX40 features a wide variety of control functions. The
projector can be controlled via the supplied remote commander,
by infra-red or by a cable connected between the projector
(S-Control) and the remote. The RS-232C port makes it possible
to control and to verify the status of the projector from a control
room.
Multiple projector control
The structure of the optical units allows the
VPL-PX40 to be tilted to any upward or
downward angle. This feature is important in
rear projection applications with holographic
screens that require a strong tilt angle.
• Digital keystone compensation
Thanks to a new algorithm, the aspect ratio
of the projected image will stay constant
(4:3) even under maximum digital keystone
compensation of ± 20 degrees. The adjustment made can be stored automatically.
• Advanced smart APA
The unique Sony APA (Auto Pixel
Alignment) function will take care of the
horizontal and vertical shift adjustment,
the horizontal size adjustment and the dot
phase adjustment in order to get the best
possible picture quality from computer
signals. Advanced Smart APA means that
the APA is triggered automatically once
the input signal is changed.
• Easy maintenance
With the new larger air filter design and
improved cooling structure, the air filter
only needs cleaning every 2000 hours. This
equals the estimated lamp life which means
that lamp replacement and filter cleaning
can be taken care of at the same time.
The VPL-PX40 also features integrated network control via
the RJ45 Ethernet connector and the PJ-J-Talk2 Protocol.
This makes it possible to verify the status of and control multiple
projectors over the network.
