Introduction This document will guide you in using HP Firmware Download Utility (HP FDU) to upgrade your HP Business Inkjet 1200 series printer firmware. Why do I need to upgrade firmware? HP is constantly working on improving the performance of the printer. From time to time, these updates are passed on to the user through a combination of firmware and software driver updates. How do I upgrade the printer firmware? Before you start: • The HP Business Inkjet 1200 firmware flashing (upgrade) requires a wired network or a USB connection. • DO NOT upgrade the printer firmware on a wirelessly connected printer. • If the computer has a firewall installed or enabled, it may block the Firmware Download Utility from accessing the printer. Therefore, please remember to temporarily disable any firewall that may be on the computer, including firewalls such as Microsoft Windows XP Firewall, Sygate, Zone Alarm or BlackICE. . Steps to flash the new firmware to your printer using HP Firmware Download Utility 1. Make sure that the HP Business Inkjet 1200 series printer is turned on. 2. Double click the downloaded file, BIJ1200_MMR2021K.exe. Select a directory where you want the extracted files to go to. 3. After the files are extracted, the HP Firmware Download Utility will launch automatically. A list of HP Business Inkjet 1200 series printer detected will be displayed in the list. (If the HP Firmware Download Utility does not launch automatically, it can be found in the BIJ1200_MMR2021K\Applications folder at the selected directory for the extracted files. Double click on PRINTFDU.exe) Note: If the Wired network printer you wish to upgrade is not displayed in the detected printer list, click on the Find Printers on Network button to scan for printers connected via the wired network. 4. Click on the checkboxes on the left to select one or multiple HP Business Inkjet 1200 series printer you wish to upgrade. Do not interrupt the printer during the upgrading process. Printer may be damage if power is interrupted during the firmware upgrading process. Note: During the firmware flashing process, the printhead LED, Ink Cartridge LED, Door Open LED and Out of Paper LED will always be on. The color LED will blink in sequence. 6. When the printer has complete the flashing process, all LED will blink once and the printer will reboot itself or turn off. Note: For 1200dtwn, printer will be turned off after a successful firmware flash. For 1200d, 1200dn, 1200dtn printer will be turned on automatically after a successful firmware flash. How do I check current printer firmware version? You can print a configuration page or use the toolbox to check current printer firmware version. Toolbox 1. Click Start; select All Programs> HP> HP Business Inkjet 1200 Series > HP Business Inkjet 1200 Series Toolbox. 2. On the Information tab, click Printer Hardware. The current firmware version will appear in the Printer information dialog box and it should reflect the new firmware version MMR2021K. Printing a Configuration page 1.
