Frequently asked questions

The 1F56N thermostat is designed for use with standard heating and cooling systems, electric heating and cooling systems, single stage heat pump systems, two-transformer systems, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, and zone dampers.

The heat anticipator can be adjusted to ensure that the heating system cycles properly. To adjust the heat anticipator, first disconnect electrical power to the thermostat at the furnace, main fuse, or breaker box. Then, remove the thermostat cover and use a 7/32” wrench to turn the hex nut beneath the bimetal clockwise or counterclockwise until the movable contact closes against the magnet. Replace the thermostat cover and set the temperature adjustment lever to the desired temperature. Turn on electrical power to the system.

The thermostat has been carefully adjusted at the factory and should not require recalibration. However, if there is a significant difference between the indicator setting of the thermostat and actual room temperature, you can recalibrate the thermostat by disconnecting electrical power to the system, removing the thermostat cover, using a 7/32” wrench to turn the hex nut beneath the bimetal clockwise or counterclockwise until the movable contact closes against the magnet, replacing the thermostat cover, and setting the temperature adjustment lever to the desired temperature. Turn on electrical power to the system.
