COMPANY AND CONTACT INFORMATION
How do I contact ProofCam?
You can contact us via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram (simply search for
'ProofCam'), alternatively via email - [email protected] or telephone - 0207 278 8926.
We aim to reply within 24 hours Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.
Can you explain the relationship between ProofCam and the RAC?
ProofCam is the RAC’s trusted Dash Cam partner and is responsible for designing and producing
the 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 07S Dash Cams for the RAC. Please do check our 'Finding a
Camera for you' section http://proofcam.com/products.
We provide a specialist collection of Dash Cams, giving all the reliability and security that drivers
come to expect from the RAC brand. The Dash Cam collection uses the latest technology to
ensure simple, reliable recording and are officially endorsed by the RAC.
Why should people invest in a Dash Cam?
The road can be a dangerous place and accidents happen. In some cases it is important to have
evidence in order to settle disputes with third parties and insurance providers.
Dash Cams give drivers the peace of mind that if an incident was to happen then they would be
able to access footage. If an accident happens which is not your fault, but liability is in dispute,
providing video evidence can resolve the situation in your favour.
PRODUCT QUESTIONS
DASH CAM PRICES AND WHERE TO BUY
On the 18-May-2015 Jon Towner asked the question: On the 16-Jun-2015 James Costen asked
the question: On the 24-Jun-2015 Summer Hung asked the question: On the 9-Oct-2015 Anna
Clark asked the question:
How much is it please?
RAC Dash Cams are sold nationwide by retailers including Argos, John Lewis, Jessops, Staples,
Maplin and Currys. You can also find them at www.racdashcam.co.uk. As a guide the RRP of the
01 is £99.99 and the 02 is £149.99.
On the 30-Apr-2015 Jonathan Howell-Jones asked the question:
Can we get them here in the UAE?
Currently no, but we will provide an update on our page as and when this changes.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Kyomi Johnson asked the question:
Are Dash Cams legal to use in other countries?
You are right that laws and regulations are in place for a number of countries.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Douglas Francis John Millard asked the question:
There is variation in the prices of Dash Cams, is that because of build or
playback quality or perhaps additional features?
A combination of factors combine to create price differences. I would say that the higher priced
Dash Cams have features which include Full HD 1080p video recording or higher, GPS and safety
camera alerts.
On the 7-Dec-2015 Ian Taylor asked the question:
QVC stated that customers should contact you if you want to have your RAC 07S
hard-wired. Can you please give me details of the price for the hardwire loom and
fitting costs.
We are a licensee of the RAC for Dash Cams we do not supply hardwire kits. A hardwire kit can
be sourced from many retailers; however Chameleon offers a complete supply and fit service
(price point £60).
On the 27-May-2016 Howie asked the question:
I have been looking for a good dashcam, and your RAC 03 seems to fit that bill
for me. However I am in the United States and wondering if there are any sellers
here of your products? Can you please tell me if I am able to use this product
here in the states? If so will the red light camera function work here as well?
Thank you very much for your email and your interest in our dash cams. At this time we do
not have a distributor in the United States - however we can ship to the USA - the postage
as you probably expect would be quite high. I can enquire about quotes if you could confirm
your post code and city please.
Please note that the speed camera alerts won't work in the the States - the database is UK
only.
SIMPLE TO INSTALL
On the 9-Oct-2015 Iain Maciver asked the question:
Is it simple to install?
ProofCam and RAC Dash Cams are plug and play so you can set-up within 5 minutes. Reading
the User Manual will provide you with more detailed set-up information but the idea is you have
everything you need in the box.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Jilly Pcphee asked the question:
How do Dash Cams work?
An in-car camera (or Dash Cam) is a type of video camera that is specifically designed with
tailored features for recording continuous footage of the road ahead. Most of the time it is just a
case of mounting the Dash Cam on your windscreen and wiring the cable to the cigarette lighter
which takes minutes. Then when you turn on your vehicle ignition the Dash Cam starts recording
your journey.
On the 30-Apr-2015 Claire Field asked the question:
Can you fix the Dash Cam anywhere on your dashboard?
The RAC cameras are designed to be installed in a prominent position in your vehicle, so to
capture a clear view of the road ahead. An ideal place to mount the device is behind the rearview mirror on the passenger's side. This places it in an elevated spot with a clear view of the
road ahead whilst not being visible to the driver. If you’re in the UK, I would also suggest looking
at the guidelines set out by The Ministry of Transport. You can find them
here http://bit.ly/1PaZ6aA.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Abigail Hamilton asked the question:
Is the date & time automatically recorded on footage?
You can set the date and time on the RAC 01, RAC 02 and RAC 04 on initial set-up so and your
footage will record the date/time. With the RAC 02, RAC 03, RAC 05 and RAC 07S the date/time
setting is automated and they also have GPS tracking which records your speed and location.
On the 29-Nov-2015 Roy Jackson asked the question:
I have found that connecting the unit itself to my Windows 10 operating system, the
computer fails to recognize it.
When connecting the camera to the computer, you need to use a USB lead, however the charger
lead supplied with the camera is only designed for charging, and will not recognize the camera
when plugged into the computer, other than for charging.
On the 18 -Feb -2016 David Lewis asked the question:
Since the RAC 03 is designed to be fastened over the reflective surface of the car's
rear view mirror, how does the replacement mirror protect the driver against
blinding from headlights from the rear of the car? How does your mirror stop
hazardous blinding once it has covered up my mirror?
The Dash Cam has an all-over anti-glare finish which is what gives the RAC 03 a blue shimmer.
On the 19-Feb Maya Dolphin asked the question:
The screen of my RAC 07S always goes blank after a few minutes of driving. Is this
normal?
What you are describing is completely normal, the screen turns off after a while to save battery
and to not distract the driver – you will be able to still see the flashing blue light which is an
indication that it is still recording. You can determine the length of time to pass before the Dash
Cam goes into battery saving mode or to turn it off entirely in your settings.
SD MEMORY CARDS/RECORDING TIME
On the 18-Jun-2015 Charlotte Nelms asked the question:, On the 9-Oct-2015 Michael
Morley asked the question:
Do they come with an SD card included in the box?
Our RAC Dash Cams come with an 8GB Micro SD card (earlier models may have a 4GB Micro SD
card, please check with the retailer before you purchase).
Please do check our 'Finding a Camera for you' section http://proofcam.com/products.
On the 13-Nov-2015 Jo asked the question:
Is it deliberate for the RAC 05 to come with the 8GB Micro SD Card pre-installed?
The 8GB Micro SD Card is deliberately installed following customer feedback we received on our
01 and 02 cameras. You can remove the card.
On the 30-Oct-2015 Brian asked the question:
What is the maximum Micro SD card I can use with an RAC 05 and 07S dash cam?
The maximum card that can be used is 64MB.
DASH CAM RECORDING, VIDEO QUALITY & SPEED CAMERAS
On the 2-Oct-2015 Dave F Barber asked the question:, On the 2-Oct-2015 Pati Robins asked the
question:
Roughly how many hours of recording does the Dash Cam hold?
As a guide, when recording in Full HD (02 camera), 8 minutes of video uses about 1GB on the
SD card. That's over an hour of recording time. Increase the size of your SD card and your
camera will film for longer. Our cameras also operate on a loop recording system, so when the
free 8GB micro SD card we supply is full, the camera will overwrite the oldest recording and
continue to record without the need to erase or download any data.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Colin Beesley asked the question:
What sort of quality is the footage?
Dash Cams are HD, Full and Super HD in terms of recording quality so designed to provide high
quality footage of your drive wherever you drive. With a correctly mounted camera there is no
reason why it would not provide excellent footage of safe off-road driving.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Matthew Daniel asked the question:
Does the Dash Cam record in the event of an accident and engine power loss?
The Dash Cam will record for a short period of time should the engine lose power. You can
research further at www.policewitness.com, we are featured on the website as part of a mix of
the best brands, our cameras have to go through a detailed road test. If you would like to see
the road test reports please contact us.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Russell Brown asked the question:
In the case of a fire is the content still safe?
The video and photographs taken are stored on the 8GB Micro SD card provided in the camera
box. The card and/or camera would need to be safely removed in the case of a fire.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Michelle Clarke asked the question:
What happens if you get hit in the back or side what sort of recording could you hope
to obtain?
Our cameras are forwarding facing and recording. The mounting cradle the camera comes with
is 360 degree rotating (except for the RAC 03) so you could change the position of your camera
to face in a different direction but that is not really what it is designed for.
On the 23-Oct-2015 Privateer asked the question:
Do the RAC Dash Cams work with SPECS (average speed measuring speed camera
system)?
Our RAC 05 and 07S cameras recognise average speed cameras and will display your average
speed whilst driving through them.
Can I protect my recording?
If an emergency was to take place you can press the emergency button, when pressed your
Dash Cam protects the current recording segment and will not be overwritten whilst the camera
continues recording. The file that has been protected will remain protected until such time as
you delete it from the SD card.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Lauren Amy asked the question:
Does the ProofCam operate well when recording in low-light environments?
ProofCam and RAC Dash Cams are designed to be used day and night, which of course includes
low-light environments.
On the 13-Nov-2015 Chevaune Stanley asked the question:
Can you record forward and rear view at the same time?
ProofCam and RAC Dash Cams are forward facing recording Dash Cams. There are a number of
credible cameras that allow for forward and rear recordings at the same time.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Gary Kay asked the question:
Does the Dash Cam record inside the car as well as the outside?
Our cameras record a varying field of vision of the road ahead from inside of a vehicle. They
can also be taken out of the vehicle to record for a short period of time and to take
photographs using the photo mode option.
On the 23-Mar-2016 Robert Morton asked the question:
Could you please tell me what the Bit rate is for the following settings for the RAC 03:
SuperFine (default) / Fine and Normal
Also, would I be correct in presuming that the settings of SuperFine, Fine, and Normal
are the same Bit rate for the other models of the RAC dash cam range as they are for the
03 model?
You're right that the bit rate for RAC 03 and 05 are the same. Please see bit rates below.
Super fine bit rate: 18; Fine Bit rate: 16; Normal Bit rate: 10
On 15-May John asked the following question:
Could you please explain the most common on screen speed camera alerts ?
Please see picture below.
DASH CAM SOFTWARE UPDATES
On the 9-Oct-2015 Graham Voss asked the question:
How often will I be able to get speed camera updates?
Updates for the speed camera database are currently fortnightly and are available from our
Product Resource section -http://proofcam.com/product-resources/ There is also an option on
our website to sign up for email notifications whenever such an update is available.
THE BENEFITS OF A DASH CAM
On the 13-Nov-2015 Amanda Rockeford asked the question:
I am new learner driver how can this help me please?
As a learner driver once you pass your test the purchase of an RAC Dash Cam will provide you
with a £30 discount off RAC car insurance. A large number of other insurers are also starting to
provide cost saving benefits to dash cam owners. Other notable benefits of ownership include
enhanced road safety, giving you peace of mind on the road, video proof in case of accidents
and protection against fraudulent claims.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Christopher Attille asked the question:
Why do we need ProofCams, are we having more accidents?
There are indications that the concept of placing a camera on a vehicle goes back 80 years https://youtu.be/a8KE5PkfHZ8. With an increase in road users and hands free legislation, Dash
Cams capture spontaneous and unplanned events differing from action cams and camcorders in
the way they record and store information. I think its also fair to say that they do enhance road
safety, give drivers of all ages peace of mind on the road, provide video proof in case of
accidents and protection against fraudulent claims.
On the 16-Oct-2015 Daniel Helman asked the question:
What would you say are the main benefits of the new RAC 07S?
The benefits are definitely its features. The RAC 07S has built-in GPS using a state of the art
technology AL750 chip from Ambarella. The camera also comes with Lifetime Safety Camera and
Speed Alerts and video recording capability in Full HD 1080p.
On the 2-Oct-2015 Pati Robins asked the question:, On the 9-Oct-2015 Douglas Francis John
Millard asked the question:
How much of the road is captured on film?
Your Dash Cam can be located anywhere on the wind-screen, however the best location tends to
be adjacent to the rear view mirror.
The RAC Dash Cam’s capture views of the road as follows: RAC 01 (120°), RAC 02 (170°) RAC 03 (125°), RAC 04 (120°), RAC 05 (150°) & RAC 07s (150°),
For product information and to compare cameras please visit – http://proofcam.com/products
On the 16-Oct-2015 Can Feltham asked the question:
What is the average Dash Cam recording time?
The amount of video stored depends on the size of SD card being used. The RAC 07S (as an
example) can support SD cards with a capacity up to 64GB. As a guide, when recording in Full
HD, 8 minutes of video uses about 1GB on the SD card.
DASH CAM LIGHTS
Does the Dash Cam light up whilst I am driving? Does the screen ‘show’ remain on
whilst I am driving?
This question relates to the 03, 04, 05 and 07S to note.
Dash Cam screen will remain on for a short time when first turned on so will appear to be
lit. The screen then turns off but the Dash Cam continues to record until it is turned off. At any
time, pushing any button on the camera will take the screen out of sleep mode for a short period
of time. Using the menu functions, the camera can be set so that the screen remains on the
whole time.
DASH CAM MOTION DETECTION
On the 30-Oct-2015 Graham Voss asked the question:
Does Parking Mode and Motion Detection mode work when the ignition is turned off?
If parking mode is activated the camera goes to sleep and will be activated by the G Sensor in
the event of an impact. Motion detection stops the camera recording when the vehicle is
stationary.
DASH CAM AUDIO RECORDING
Is there audio recording?
All sounds and conversations can be recorded if required. However, if you do not wish to record
sounds and conversations, you can simply touch one button and this will mute the microphone.
DASH CAM NOISE
Does the Dash Cam make any noise whilst I drive?
With standard settings, no. If you opt for the RAC 05 and activate the Lane Diversion Warning
System and/or the Forward Collision Warning System, it will sound in order to warn you about
relevant road situations. The speed camera alerts also notify you with a sound when activated.
On the 18-Jan-2016 Alfie Gallagher asked the question:
How can you mute all the sounds on the RAC 07S?
You would have to install the new RAC 07S firmware first which you can find under Product
Resources on our website. After you installed the update, go to the second menu in the top
right corner, choose the first option and then go to "audio warnings" and change settings to
"off" - this will mute all the sounds.
DASH CAM - COURT/POLICE EVIDENCE
On the 9-Oct-2015 Andrew Timms asked the question:, On the 16-Oct-2015 Hazel Rea asked the
question:
On the 16-Oct-2015 Brian Harrington asked the question:, On the 20-Nov-2015 Alan O'Neill
asked the question:
On the 20-Nov-2015
Chelsey Wood asked
the question:
Does the recording produce evidence, which could be relied on in court/with the
police?
Quoting an article in The Independent ‘Paul Marshall, Suffolk's deputy chief constable’, said:
"Increasing use is being made by the public of digital cameras to record evidence of
offences which can be used by the police to support prosecutions. This is welcomed by
‘Association of Chief Police Officers’ as quite often the only evidence available is an
eyewitness account which is disputed by the alleged offender."
On the 9-Oct-2015 Laura Pritchard asked the question:
Are there any privacy laws concerning use of the footage you shoot?
We reference an article at http://bit.ly/1LarFTX. Please see the Is abbreviation the footage
admissible in evidence in court section.
On the 13-Nov-2015 Joy Dehany asked the question:
What's the legal viewpoint on Dash Cams?
Our cameras are designed to be installed in a prominent position in your vehicle to capture a
clear view of the road ahead. An ideal place to mount the device is behind the rear-view mirror
on the passenger's side. This places it in an elevated spot with a clear view of the road ahead
whilst not being visible to the driver. If you’re in the UK, I would also suggest looking at the
guidelines set out by The Ministry of Transport.
You can find them here http://bit.ly/1PaZ6aA. Quoting an article in The Independent ‘Paul

not distract a driver is legally sound and provides the opportunity to save on insurance
premiums, preserve no claims bonuses and act as evidence in court.
DASH CAM - INSURANCE
On the 9-Oct-2015 Linzie Phillips asked the question:
Does having a Dash Cam fitted reduce your insurance premium?
As you will see the RAC now offers a £30 discount on insurance. An increasing number of leading
insurance companies are also recognising Dash Cams and it is worthwhile checking to see what
benefit they offer for having one in your vehicle.
On the 5-Dec-2015 Roger Frisby asked the question:
Do I get an insurance discount if I have a Dash Cam?
This is entirely dependent on your insurer who may reduce your premium. However, if you buy a
RAC Dash Dam you will get £30 off your insurance immediately.
On the 6-Nov-2015 Ajay asked the question:
Please provide me the details for how to get £30 on insurance immediately after
buying RAC 07S Dash Cam?
The £30 off RAC insurance offer is available across the range of cameras.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Ajay asked the question:
Does using a Dash Cam lower your insurance?
There is increasing evidence that using a ProofCam or RAC Dash Cam will protect and
reduce your insurance premium.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Rachel Faye Berryman asked the question:
I have seen that some insurance companies are now accepting them as proof of an
incident, do you think this would be standard practice soon?
It's not right now but it is possible in the future.
DASH CAM – LORRY DRIVERS
On the 9-Oct-2015 Laura Pritchard asked the question:
Would you recommend these to an experienced lorry driver who drives at night, or
are they more for teens who have just passed ?
We would recommend the RAC 05 for a lorry driver. It has a greater field of vision and comes
with a GPS tracking option which will record speed and location. The RAC 05 also has a lot of
helpful features like parking mode, google map support, forward collision warning, lane
departure warning system - just to name a few.
On the 17-Nov-2015 Nicola Whitford asked the question:
Is there a particular Dash Cam you recommend for truck drivers?
We recommend the RAC 05. Key beneficial features are the speed camera database and free
lifetime updates - it will aid your knowledge of the road speed(s) across the UK and Ireland,
collision warning - which will advise you of any vehicles getting too close and lane division
warning which will alert you if you stray into another lane.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE DASH CAM FOR YOU
On the 9-Oct-2015 Lauren Terry-Rose asked the question:
I don't really know where to start in looking for a Dash Cam, can you help?
There are an increasing number of resources available online, such as www.policewitness.com.
The Dash Cams featured are put through a very detailed road test. If you would like to see the
type of report they write, please send us a private message we will share one with you.
Alternatively, please check our http://proofcam.com/products/ section, which has a Finding a
Camera for you table.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Kevin Dowle asked the question:
Are there any cordless cams available?
At the moment there is not a wireless Dash Cam but please feel free to stay in contact with us
by emailing [email protected] for more information.
ALTERNATIVE DASH CAMS
On the 2-Oct-2015 Jay Boswell asked the question:
What about scooters, is there a helmet mount?
The ProofCam and RAC Dash Cam are not specifically designed for scooter use. We have seen a
couple of new cameras come on the market but cannot qualify if they are worthy of
recommendation yet.
SAFETY AND YOUR DASH CAM USE
On the 9-Oct-2015 Guy Plater asked the question:
Is this the legal way to take selfies while driving?
We are on the side of caution and say no. The Dash Cam should be positioned behind the rearview mirror so it does not distract the driver. A passenger taking the selfie would also distract
the driver. In a safe, parked position would be preferable.
On the 13-Nov-2015 Kim Moran asked the question:
Does posting your footage on to social media sites violate privacy?
I'm actually going to get a legal update on this question and will revert back as soon as I have it.
Would be interesting for all our customers to benefit from this information. I am working on the
answer to this question now.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Debbie Gray asked the question:
Is the Dash Cash the way to record those hilarious Facebook videos with people
singing along to their tunes like "Frozen Let It Go?"
ProofCam and RAC Dash Cams have built-in microphones, which can be turned on or off and are
supplied with a 360 degree rotating dashboard mount (except the RAC 03). It is important to
note that our cameras are designed to keep you safe on the roads so any activities that distract
you whilst driving should be avoided.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Rebecca Mark Morgan asked the question:
What exactly is a G Sensor and what does it do?? How does it protect it differently
to the normal footage?
The G-Sensor recognises an impact to your vehicle and protects the recorded video
evidence. The G-Sensor automatically protects the footage without you needing to touch the
camera. In a 'normal footage situation', when you switch on your ignition our cameras will start
to record in segments, when the SD card is full the camera operates on a loop recording system
overwriting the oldest recording and continues to record without the need to erase or download
any data. So unless you press the emergency button to protect your footage it will not be kept.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Colin Davies asked the question:
As cameras are black/dark colours do they "cook" electronics in the sun?
ProofCam and RAC Dash Cams are black as well as being small and discreet. We have tested
them in all weather conditions and to date have had no cameras returned due to overheating or
'cooking' in the sun. On very hot days I have a tendency to remove my camera whilst I am not
driving for my own peace of mind, its the same with my phone, I prefer not to leave it sitting in
direct sun to look after it.
TECHNICAL QUESTIONS
SD MEMORY CARDS
What happens when my SD Memory Card runs out?
All our Dash Cams record on to an SD memory card and record in segments, the length of which
is pre-set to three minutes. When the SD card is full, the Dash Cam will simply record over the
oldest footage, meaning the SD card never needs to be removed as it records on a continuous
loop.
To choose your Dash Cam please visit http://proofcam.com/products/
RECORDING TIME & CAMERA USE
On the 9-Oct-2015 Brian Harrington asked the question:, On the 9-Oct-2015 Brad Start asked
the question:
How much recording time is on the Dash Cam?
As a guide, when recording in Full HD (RAC 02 camera), 8 minutes of video uses about 1GB on
the SD card. Increase the size of the SD card and you can record more video before the loop
recording starts. Our Dash Cams operate on a loop recording system. When the free 8GB micro
SD card we supply is full, the camera will overwrite the oldest recording and continue to record
without the need to erase or download any data.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Eleanor M Powell asked the question:
Does the Dash Cam record all the time?
The camera will record as soon as you switch your vehicle ignition on.
On the 2-Oct-2015 Dan Lawry asked the question:
Does the camera always need to be connected (fixed wire) or if there was an
accident could you use it as a hand cam to record the surrounding evidence?
Our cameras are designed to be powered using the supplied power cable connected to your
vehicle’s 12-volt power socket or hard-wired. In either case, the camera can be removed for a
short period to take a picture or record evidence.
On the 4-Dec-2015 Susan White asked the question:
The USB cable is not working.
The supplied lead is only suitable for charging. It will not function as a cable to sync over the
computer.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Cliff Board asked the question:
The RAC 07 has a 30 second event recording, can this be extended? Also when
protecting the recording using the button the 30 second recording is a new
recording, meaning the event has been missed.
The 30 second event recording cannot be extended however it records 15 seconds back and the
next 15 seconds so nothing is missed.
On the 6-Dec-2015 Barbara Kersey asked the question:
I want to set up my camera to come on when I turn the engine on and record and
turn off when I turn the engine off.
A Dash Cam should always be connected to the in vehicle power, this can either be through the
power adaptor in the vehicle, or they can be hard-wired directly to the battery. When the engine
is turned on the Dash Cam will come on, and when the engine is turned off, the Dash Cam will
turn off. There is no risk of overcharging the Dash Cam and they are designed to stay connected
the whole time.
On the 6-Dec-2015 Barbara Kersey asked the question:
What is the best loop time to select, I have opted for a 3 minute loop but would
welcome advice. I am unsure what to adjust EV to as I do not know what this
means, so far I have left it at 0.
If you are not planning to download a lot of footage then 3 minutes is the most common setting.
EV setting at 0 is fine, and either 50 or 60 HZ is OK - for regular use these settings do not make
a lot of difference.
On the 6-Dec-2015 Barbara Kersey asked the question:
I am also unsure what the format is for. Does this cancel all settings and return it to
factory default?
Format is to delete all data from the SD card. There is a reset button on the Dash Cam to restore
factory settings.
I ran G4 all day and the card says it’s now full?
You need to adjust the G –sensor from the menu functions and set to G4.
I have an issue with my RAC 07S – despite being on charge for 6 hours it will not
turn on or power up – what can I do?
This might be caused by a bug so we suggest updating the firmware which you can find on our
website proofcam.com under Product Resources. If this doesn’t help press the Reset- button and
On- button at the same time for about 5 seconds.
On 14-May-2016 Andy asked the question:
How can I watch back the footage on my RAC 07S dash cam?
To play back footage on the RAC 07S you have to press the OK (top button right hand side) button
while the dash cam is in recording mode (whenever the dash cam is recording the blue light is
flashing). The blue light will then stop and you have to press the third button on the right hand side the one with the Play symbol. Now you will see two folders: Event and Normal. The Event file is
storing your protected footage and Normal has all the files that get continuously overwritten. Please
select one via Up and Down button and press OK. The video will then play.
SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS
On the 23-Oct-2015 Keith asked the question:
I have purchased a RAC 07S Dash Cam and would like to download the GPS desktop
software.
Please visit our Product Resources section http://proofcam.com/product-resources/ for all
available instructions and files for your camera.
On the 30-Oct-2015 David asked the question:
Could you tell me which download I require for the 07S, with operating system
Windows 10?

Windows Vista, do the following:
Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer,
and then clicking Properties.
Under System, you can view the system type. If your computer is running Windows XP, do the
following:
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

On the 9-Oct-2015 Andrew asked the question:, On the 23-Oct-2015 Tracy Hathaway asked the
question:
Do you have a desktop software for Apple Macintosh System OSX 10.8.5?
Your camera can download the files to any computer, including a MAC.
The video files can also be viewed with any computer. However, the desktop software is not
currently compatible with a MAC. As of 18/11 we are hoping to have an update on this shortly.
On the 30-Oct-2015 David asked the question:
I have downloaded and opened the desktop software file and I have GPS multi media
player on screen as shown on instructions. I’ve plugged the camera into computer
but nothing happens. I can’t play back any video or files.
Do not use the charger lead to try and play back videos on the PC. It is only for charging either
in the car or from your PC. When connecting the 07S to the computer (perhaps using a phone
charger lead or a TomTom lead for example, connect it to the camera directly not to the top of
the GPS adaptor that is on the suction pad.
On the 24-Oct-2015 John Harvey asked the question:
Where do I find the mapping software and camera updates for model 07s?
Please visit our Product Resources section - http://proofcam.com/product-resources/
On the 13-Nov-2015 Tom asked the question:
In my RAC 05 manual is says - To ensure the Speed Camera database in your Dash
Cam is always up to date visit www.proofcam.com to register for free lifetime
updates. Where is the registration?
Yes, you can find the registration link on our website proofcam.com under Product Resources.
Once you’ve registered you will get email notifications whenever there are updates for you Dash
Cam model are available.
On the 24-Oct-2015 John Harvey asked the question:
I have the 07 and am really pleased, but how do I update the GPS on a MAC?
We are working on the MAC iOS version and will update everyone shortly.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Mike Harris asked the question:
My driver ID seems to have been lost on my RAC 05.
Try to re-install the software.
Follow this link for the three files required - http://bit.ly/1Lq9A39 - Download them and save on
your computer. Then take a blank and formatted SD card, and copy the file onto the SD card.
Making sure the Dash Cam is plugged in to power, and switched off, insert the SD card and turn
on the camera. The camera will then update (there may be some instructions to follow) and then
it will turn off when completed. Then remove the SD card and delete the files, before reinserting
it into the Dash Cam, turn it on, and the software should be updated.
On the 11-Nov-2015 Simon Anderton asked the question:
I own a 05 Dash cam, trying to download the dat file containing the camera data
base update. Every time I click on the link a web page opens full of random text,
what am I doing wrong?
Please ensure you are using the download available from http://proofcam.com/productresources.
On the 8-Dec-2015 Clive Walton asked the question:
I’ve come to install, as per instructions the speed camera alert software to the SD
card which includes lifetime updates, however I cannot find any links to load this
software, only update instructions.
Can you please tell me what software I can open edogdata.dat with in windows 10 as
my software does not open this file.
The speed camera database is not designed to be opened on your computer - it is only
compatible with your Dash Cam. The process is that you firstly need to download the file to your
computer (but do not open the file). Once you have this on your computer, copy it on to a blank
SD card. Then, making sure that the Dash cam is turned off and connected to power, insert the
SD card and switch on your Dash cam. After a short time the update process will be complete
and the Dash Cam will turn off. Remove the SD card, delete all the files, and then you can
continue to use the Dash Cam.
On the 4-Dec-2015 Mike Harris asked the question:
I noticed there is a difference between the latest speed camera file (from your
resources page) and a freshly updated pocketgps app running at the same time.
We update the speed camera database every 2 weeks, it is not possible to update more often as
the files have to be converted.
To update the database the process is as follows:
1. Copy the .dat file to your computer
2. Copy the file onto a blank SD card
3. Making sure the camera is connected to power, and turned off, insert the SD card and turn on
the camera
4. After the update is complete, the camera will turn off.
5. Remove the SD card and delete the files and then the process is complete.
On the 18-Jan-2016 David Astridge asked the question:
What enhancements are in the updated firmware for the RAC 05/07S?
The latest firmware for the RAC 05/ 07S (January 2016) includes an option to mute all the
sounds, and also increases the upper speed for the speed limit warning to 100 mph.
On the 08-Apr-2016 C. Tiscali asked the question:
I was sent a link for an update but when I open it it’s just random numbers and
symbols.
You are not supposed to open the update at any point. Just put it straight onto a completely
blank SD card please. I suggest deleting all former download attempts - this is important to
not the change the name of the file. The update has to be called edogdata.dat - no numbers
in bracket etc. We recommend using Google Chrome for the download process as some
internet browser open the file automatically.
On the 11-Apr-2016 Chris asked the question:
I am trying to update my RAC 05 - I used a new 32gb mini sd card and
downloaded the file to it as instructed. I inserted a pink USB lead which I
purchased yesterday and plugged the camera into the USB socket. The camera
automatically turned on. I turned the camera off and inserted the mini sd card. I
switched the camera on and got the blue screen with the "USB connecting".
Nothing else happened, just the blue screen. What am I doing wrong?
It's right to use the sync lead at first to be able to format the SD card manually on the computer but
you should swap the leads before inserting the SD card - you have to change to the charging lead
(the long one) otherwise you won't get on screen instructions.
On the 11-Apr-2016 R. Heeley asked the question:
Should the power lead from the pc be plugged directly into the dash cam or
should I connect it via the unit that sticks to the screen then via the short link to
the dash cam?
Please do not update via the GPS unit - plug the lead directly into the dash cam.
On the 12-Feb -2016 John East asked the question:
When I download the desktop software for my Mac all I get is pages and pages of
data!
Without it I probably cannot playback the recorded images.
We recommend using Google Chrome as an internet browser for downloading software from our
website. Please delete all your former attempts from your downloads folder and repeat the
process using Google Chrome.
On the 31-st of May Nigel asked the question:
I have registered on the website to receive email notifications whenever there is an
update available. What about firmware updates – will I receive a notification too?
Yes, you will receive an email notification whenever there is an update for your dash cam model
available – incl. firmware updates.
DASH CAM BATTERY
On the 6-Nov-2015 Keith Shayle asked the question:
What is the voltage and ampage for the 07S?
The battery of 07S is 3.7V 330mAH. For any one interested in the 03 - battery of 03: 3.7V
330mAH and the 05 - battery of 05: 3.7V 180mAH
On the 9-Oct-2015 Dave F Barker asked the question:
Is it possible to run ProofCam from a solar panel?
Our testing based on your question extended beyond the weekend and continues. Have you
tried using a solar application yourself? Let me continue my tests as I am trying across a number
of different applications and I will dedicate a post to this based on your original question.
On the 20-Nov-2015 Keith Shayle asked the question:
Would a 5 volt output be safe to use with your device?
Yes it would be.
TRANSFER YOUR DASH CAM VIDEO
How do I get the content off the unit?
You can connect to a computer via a USB cable (supplied) or remove the SD card and insert it
into a card reader. There’s also the ability to replay video on the unit. Once connected, all the
files are available to view and email if required.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Ceejay Suto asked the question:
How do you get the recorded footage from the Dash Cam transferred to a smart
phone?
If you are using a PC or MAC you can download to a file-sharing platform like Dropbox, you can
also use AirDrop with a MAC. These methods allow you to upload to your smartphone.
On the 13-Nov-2015 ProofCam asked the question:
Do you use the charger lead to connect to your computer to download the video?
The supplied cable is only for charging, either from your in-car power or a computer. You will not
be able to download video using this cable. In order to do this you need to use a shorter USB
lead, connect this lead directly into the RAC 07s rather than into the GPS panel located at the
top of the suction pad. Once connected, the camera will be visible on the computer. A lead such
as a mobile phone USB or a Sat Nav USB should be fine.
On the 9-Oct-2015 Dei Sells asked the question:
Is there an app or any plans of an app where you can stream your Dash Cam whilst
driving?
There are some WI-FI Dash Cams available that would enable to you to stream but it would not
be safe to view footage on a smartphone whilst driving.
On the 23-Oct-2015 Jennifer Carroll asked the question:
How do you upload your data? Is it done by a close Wi-Fi connection? Can the device
ever get full while you are driving and not record?
You can upload your video recording by plugging your camera into your USB drive on your
computer. It is not done through close WI-FI connection. Our cameras also work on a loop
recording system so unless you change the settings your camera and USB will always enable you
to record your journey.
DASH CAM CAMERA PLACEMENT
On the 2-Oct-2015 Rebecca Mark Morgan asked the question:
Do vibrations from the road surface effect recording or damage it?
If your RAC dash cam is correctly mounted to your vehicle wind-screen then the recording video
will not be affected with changes in road condition.
On the 16-Oct-2015 Jennifer Carroll asked the question:
Can you leave your Dash Cams in vehicles overnight? or would that encourage
burglary. If you do remove it what is the best way to get rid of those rings that the
mounts leave behind? How easy is it to upload any collected data? Do you have to
download any programs or apps?
Our cameras are small, black and discreet so you can leave them in your vehicle overnight. They
may also act as deterrent. The mount does not need to be removed if you decide to take your
camera out overnight but I find a little bottled water and tissue always does the trick at
removing the ring.
DASH CAM WARNING SYSTEM
How does the Lane Diversion Warning System work?
Available on the RAC 03 and 05, the camera detects white lines on the road ahead, and if a slow
diversion is detected, then an alert will sound to notify the driver. The system can easily be
turned on and off using the menu.
How does the Safety Camera Warning System work?
Available on the RAC 03, 05 and 07S, it is activated using the built-in GPS. When your vehicle
approaches a speed or safety camera, an alert notifies the distance to the camera, the current
speed limit and the speed of your vehicle.
How does the Forward Collision Warning System work?
The Forward Collision Warning System monitors the distance of vehicles ahead. If the camera
detects a vehicle that is too close an alert will sound to notify the driver. The system can easily
be turned on and off using the menu.
