Connecting remote management hosts

The management host directly manages systems out-of-band over an

Ethernet network.

1.

Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet management port on each controller.

2.

Connect the other end of each Ethernet cable to a network that your management host can access (preferably on the same subnet).

Configuration notes

Any number or combination of LUNs can be shared among connected servers as long as the total number of LUNs adds up to no more than

512 LUNs per MSA 2000 G2.

When expanding storage, a maximum of five (5) enclosures (including the array enclosure) OR ninety-nine (99) drives are allowed in the array.

Cable requirements

The following table provides SAS cable requirements for MSA controllers and drive enclosures connection combinations.

MSA2000sa G2 configuration options

This section describes direct connect, switch-connect, and expansion configuration options for the MSA2000sa G2.

MSA2000sa G2 direct connections

The MSA2000sa G2 supports up to eight direct connect server connections, four per controller. Connect cables from the servers' HBAs to the controller ports as shown in the following illustrations. All direct connect configurations require mini-SAS 4x cables.

IMPORTANT:

• The MSA2000sa G2 supports a maximum of 128 LUNs per

SC08Ge HBA.

• A volume cannot be mapped to LUN 0.

MSA2000sa G2 switch-connect configurations

IMPORTANT:

• Any number or combination of LUNs can be shared among a maximum of 32 single-density blade servers or 16 dualdensity blade servers as long as the total adds up to no more than 512 LUNs per MSA2000sa G2.

NOTE:

A volume cannot be mapped to LUN 0.

• Single density configurations support two 3Gb SAS BL Switches per blade enclosure.

• Dual density configurations support four 3Gb SAS BL Switches per blade enclosure.

• Only use supported mini-SAS 4x cables with 3Gb connectors.

Cables required: eight (8) mini-SAS 4x cables.

Connecting to an MSA2000 3.5” 12–drive enclosure

A: Connecting an MSA2000sa G2 single-controller array enclosure to an MSA2000 3.5” 12–drive enclosure with a single I/O module requires one (1) mini-SAS to SAS cable.

A + B: Connecting an MSA2000sa G2 dual-controller array enclosure to an MSA2000 3.5” 12–drive enclosure with dual I/O modules requires two (2) mini-SAS to SAS cables.

Connecting to multiple MSA2000 3.5” 12–drive enclosures

In this example, connecting an MSA2000 G2 array enclosure to three

MSA2000 3.5" 12-drive enclosures requires two (2) mini-SAS to SAS cables and four (4) HP Ext. SAS cables.

Connecting to an MSA70

IMPORTANT:

The HP MSA70 drive enclosure requires firmware version 2.18

or later to be supported with the MSA2000 G2.

A: Connecting an MSA2000sa G2 single-controller array enclosure to an MSA70 drive enclosure with a single I/O module requires one (1) mini-SAS to mini-SAS cable.

A + B: Connecting an MSA2000sa G2 dual-controller array enclosure to an MSA70 drive enclosure with dual I/O modules requires two (2) mini-SAS to mini-SAS cables.

Connecting to multiple MSA70 drive enclosures

In this example, connecting an MSA2000sa G2 array enclosure to three

MSA70 drive enclosures requires six (6) mini-SAS to mini-SAS cables.

Connecting to a mixed configuration

The following figure shows a MSA2000sa G2 array controller connected to a mixed configuration of MSA70 drive enclosures and MSA2000

3.5” 12–drive enclosures. This configuration requires seven (7) mini-SAS to SAS cables and one (1) mini-SAS to mini-SAS cable. Other mixed configurations might require different cables.

MSA2000i G2 configuration options

This section describes direct connect, switch-connect, and expansion configuration options for the MSA2000i G2.

MSA2000i G2 direct connections

The MSA2000i G2 supports up to four direct connect server connections, two per controller. Connect cables from the servers' HBAs to the controller ports as shown in the following illustrations.

One server connected to an MSA2000i G2 enclosure

A: One server/single path requires one (1) Ethernet cable.

A + B: One server/dual path requires two (2) Ethernet cables.

MSA2000fc G2 configuration options

MSA2000fc G2 direct connections

The MSA2000fc G2 supports four server connections, two per controller.

Connect Fibre Channel cables from host ports on each controller to FC

HBAs on server(s), as shown in the following illustrations.

Connecting to a mixed configuration

The following figure shows a MSA2000i G2 array controller connected to a mixed configuration of MSA70 drive enclosures and MSA2000

3.5” 12–drive enclosures. This configuration requires seven (7) mini-SAS to SAS cables and one (1) mini-SAS to mini-SAS cable. Other mixed configurations might require different cables.

MSA2000fc G2 switch-connect configurations

The MSA2000fc G2 supports 4 Fibre Channel connections, two per controller, with up to 64 hosts supported. Connect FC cables from controller host ports to switch ports, and from switch ports to data hosts.
