What you need to know before you buy a
stroller for your twins.
Before you buy your twin stroller, there are some important facts you should know and questions you
should have answered before making one of the most important purchases for your twins, next to car
seats, cribs or even bouncers.
Even if you have done your research and know exactly what you are looking for, take a moment to
review the questions below to confirm your choice before buying.
If you know for sure the twin stroller you are looking to buy but are unsure where to buy it online, the
following sites have a great selection of twin strollers at great prices; Amazon, or Stroller Depot . Each
offer free shipping, good customer feedback and allow you to shop for other items you may be ready to
buy for your twins like car seats, cribs, baby clothes, even perhaps diapers from Amazon.
But for those who are not ready to buy yet, get comfortable, we have some information we need to go
through to help you make the best twin stroller choice for you and your twins.
Some questions you need to ask first.
First, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself that will help you decide which twin stroller will
work best for you. Some questions that you need to ask yourself are:
1. Where do you live? City or Country? Urban or suburban?

2. What is your lifestyle? Highly active or only moderate?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
3. Do you travel frequently? Do you fly or use another form of transportation like car or bus?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
4. What is the weather like where you are? Are there dramatically different seasons?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
5. How do you plan to use your stroller? For shopping, walking, outings, running, hiking?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
6. Who will be primarily using the stroller? What is their age, height and strength?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
7. How much space do you have at your home or in your vehicle for storage?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
8. Do you need a twin stroller that collapses easy for storage or travelling?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
9. Is it a consideration you may need more than one twin stroller to suit all your needs? 2 or 3
possibly?
______________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
10. Is the stroller car seat compatible? Will it accommodate 2 car seats or just one? If no to these 2
questions, then does the twin stroller provide special safety features to act in place of a car
seat?

11. What features are you looking for? Which features are most important to you? Which features
are you willing to sacrifice because they are truly a preference and perhaps not available on the
best twin stroller for you? (However, sunscreens and rain covers should always be must haves,
even if they need to be purchased separately.)
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
12. Finally, what is your price range? What are you able to afford? What are you willing to spend?
This is probably one of most important factors in narrowing your search for a twin stroller.
Depending on your budget your list can be narrowed, which can be a blessing since then you are
not overwhelmed with too many choices.

What to look for in a stroller.
Once you have considered these questions, you can then consider what to look for in a twin stroller such
as:
1. Construction. How sturdy is the stroller for your purposes? You don’t want to take an umbrella
stroller out on rough surfaces such as a hiking path, when a more appropriate stroller would be
a jogger type.
______________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
2. What is the wheel base? The wider, usually the steadier.
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
3. Wheels. Are they plastic or more durable nylon? Rubber if a jogger. What is the tread like?
How much of a tread are you going to need? Do the wheels pivot or are the fixed? This last
question can determine maneuverability, especially in tight spaces.

4. Do both seats adjust and recline? How easy is it to adjust?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
5. Are both seats equal?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
6. Safety features, such as a five point harness or netting for newborns?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
7. Brakes. Single or Dual? How well do they work? How easy to apply and release?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
8. How easy is it to clean? Can you only wipe down the covering or remove it for a machine wash?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
9. How easy is it to collapse and open if applicable?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
10. How does the twin stroller handle as the children grow and become heavier? What is the
maximum weight the stroller can safely manage?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
11. How heavy is the stroller itself? How will the weight affect pushing and lifting of the stroller?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
12. May look like plenty of room now, but how will my twins fit as they turn 1, 2, and 3? Does the
stroller accommodate for child growth?

13. How long do I intend to use the stroller before changing to another system such as a wagon, if I
plan a change at all?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
14. What is the storage capacity of the stroller? How much can fit under the carriage? Are their
extra pockets? How easy is it to store and retrieve items?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
15. Is the stroller tandem or side by side?

A Few Extra Facts to know.
Now that you have prepared yourself to look for a twin stroller, there is one very important fact you
must be clear on, a double stroller DOES NOT EQUAL a twin stroller. Any stroller that is referenced as a
twin stroller is just that, it is meant for two children of the same age. A double stroller is usually meant
for a younger and older child with unequal seating room, if double seating is even applicable. These
days many double strollers have a seat for the younger child and a standing board for the older one. So
are you clear that you must check that the seating is equal ahead of your purchase? Good.
So with all that being said and having prepared yourself after completing the questions above, I am now
going to share with you what your options are for twin strollers.
When it comes to twin strollers there are about 7 different types of strollers available, with the stroller
being either tandem (front /back) or side by side. As far as comparing tandem strollers and side by side
strollers, it will really be your preference since both have positives and negatives about them. Just be
wary of the weight distribution and length of a tandem stroller because it can make for a difficult time
controlling and lifting the stroller up a curb if the weight distribution is focused on the front. Also, if the
tandem stroller is too long, this could pose a problem getting through doorways or around tight corners.
When it comes to side by side strollers, it is much like pushing a wheel chair and you should check that
the width of the stroller is no more than 30”, as this will ensure the stroller should fit through any
standard doorways. When your twins are small, a side by side can usually be maneuvered quite easily,
even with 1 hand in some cases; however, as your twins grow, 2 hands are required due to the added
weight.

The 7 styles of twin strollers available.
As for the 7 basic styles of strollers, you have:
1. Umbrella – this is the smallest, most basic and lightweight of all the strollers. Not suitable
for newborns. There is usually no storage and used more for casual usage
like a mall trip.
2. Light Weight – this is the most standard style of twin stroller designed either tandem or side
by side. Its’ weight is just that, a light weight, meant for more general
usage. As a note, there are some stroller brands who have built a great
umbrella stroller for those who would prefer an umbrella stroller that has
a little bit more to it. Maclaren is one such company, and I have become a
fan of the Triumph Twin Stroller. I have also been told from owners that it
is also a great stroller to travel with.
3. Stroller Travel Systems – these are strollers that are car seat compatible. If you wish to
keep your child in a car seat for easier transfer from car to stroller, you
must know if your stroller is compatible for 2 car seats, and you may need
to purchase an adapter for the car seats as well. These strollers are like
transitional strollers, with stroller seats used once a car seat is no longer
required.
4. Universal Car Seat Carriers – these strollers area standard frame that is compatible with all
car seats. Some frames can only be used for this limited period of time, in
which case you will need to purchase another stroller when your twins
outgrow their car seats. However; some manufacturers do sell the
compatible stroller seats as well.
5. Active/ Joggers – If you have a very active lifestyle, do lots of walking or hiking or perhaps
do lots of winter walking in snow, this may be your choice for a twin
stroller. They are sturdier than the light weight stroller, usually with larger
wheels with greater traction. The downside is that they usually do not
collapse and if they do, it is usually comes with some effort to accomplish.
So keep that in mind if you have any kind of storage limitations. They are
also the heaviest of the strollers you will find.

6. Bike Strollers/Trailers – these are basic carriages that can either be pushed or attached to a
bike. Like the active strollers they do take up room and require some effort
to collapse. They are definitely not appropriate for newborns. However if
your children are a little older and you would like to ride with them but also
have a sturdy stroller for walking, this is a good choice.
7. Multifunctional – these strollers can be used with not only car seats and stroller seats but a
bassinet as well. There by covering all stages of your twins’
development. Again you must make sure the stroller is twin compatible
before you buy and know that most times bassinettes are sold separately
and therefore an extra cost.
Final thoughts on buying a twin stroller.
Having now a quick education of how to buy your twin stroller, there are a few more things to keep in
mind. Don’t think you are limited to buying a stroller you don’t like because you
think you need to use your car seat. I myself opted for the Zooper Tango Stroller
because it was 1 of 2 twin strollers that at the time offering safety features for
newborns. I personally could not handle 2 car seats by myself and it did not bother
me to remove my daughters from their car seats, sleeping or not, and place them in
the stroller. Using the stroller was also easier because I had a clean, flat surface to
change dirty diapers from if the situation arose.
I would also want you to know that you don’t have to spend premium dollars if your needs are that you
need more than 1 stroller. Invest in the one you think you would use most often. My Zooper Tango was
my investment stroller, and I bought a cheap umbrella stroller on sale for the times I needed a stroller
and room in the trunk of my car. . Alternatively I met a parent who uses the universal car seat carrier
and invested in a Jogger type stroller. Choose what best suits your lifestyle and your means.
And one final suggestion, as far as “extra” features, sometimes they are not all that you may hope, but
are they worth getting upset over. I think the biggest “feature” complaint I hear about are cup holders.
Yes, some complain it may be missing for their twins, but a lot of the time it is parents who want them
for themselves. Just be aware, no holder is perfect and no matter what, liquid spills. So do your
diligence and make sure that whatever container you are drinking from seals up, not only to prevent
spills that happen when walking, but also spills caused by those little hands that always manage to get
your stuff. I didn’t even use my holder it was not worth all the extra energy being mindful for spills. I
would simply seal up my drink and put it in the basket below.
I hope I have helped you understand what your options are when it comes to twin strollers and you are
now prepared to go and purchase your twin stroller.
