CAUTION: FOR GENERAL VENTILATION USE ONLY. DO NOT USE TO EXHAUST HAZARDOUS OR EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS OR VAPORS. 1. Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. (If you have questions, contact Prestige® at 800-358-8886.) 2. Before servicing or cleaning this unit, switch power off at service panel and lock the panel to prevent power from being switched on by accident. When the service panel cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel. WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE, PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boil-overs can cause smoking and may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low heat. 2. Always turn ventilation system ON five minutes prior to cooking to begin airflow. 3. Clean ventilation filters frequently. DO NOT ALLOW GREASE TO ACCUMULATE ON FAN OR FILTER. 4. Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the burner or element. 1 -Important Safety InstructionsWARNING - IN THE EVENT OF RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Smother the flames with a close fitting lid, cooking sheet or other metal tray, and then turn off the burner. BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If the flames do not go out immediately, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. 2. NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN. 3. MAKE SURE YOUR VENTILATION SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. DO NOT TURN HOOD ON TO TRY AND EVACUATE SMOKE. 4. DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels - a violent steam explosion may result. 5. Use an extinguisher only if: a) You know you have a class ABC extinguisher and you already know how to operate it. b) The fire is small and contained in the area where it started. c) The fire department is being called. d) You can fight the fire with your back to an exit. 2 - Handling Precautions • Remove all rings, watches, belt buckles, jewelry and any clothing with metal buttons or snaps to prevent damage to the Insert. • DO NOT REMOVE INSERT FROM ITS ORIGINAL CARTON UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO INSTALL IT. • When you are ready to begin the installation process, remove the insert from its carton and place it on a clean soft blanket. • Inspect the insert carefully for any damage or imperfections before you begin to install the insert. If any damage or imperfections exist, re-carton the insert and call your dealer IMMEDIATELY, do not install a damaged hood. • It is highly recommended that rubber gloves be used to prevent scratches on the insert and to provide you with a firm grip. • When removing the insert from the carton locate the filters. The filters are not pre-installed in the insert. The filters are in a box marked filters, inside the insert carton. • Internal blower inserts can be ducted to the top or the rear. Check product guide for additional transitions, wall caps and roof caps. • Duct size for units ending in 600 is 6" round and an optional transition model TRC8/6 should be used to increase the duct size to 8" round for optimal performance. • Units with model numbers ending in 1200 require the use of transition model TR6x15/10 (NOT INCLUDED AND SOLD SEPERATELY). • All Prestige® ventilation inserts have a variable speed blower switch as well as a light dimmer switch. • Inserts can be set up for ductless applications. See product guide for optional ductless conversion kits. 3 -Important Ventilation Information Before You BeginThe desired installation height of the insert is at the discretion of the user, however, a height of 30" to 36" above the cooking surface is recommended. Two persons are required to install insert. Before installing your insert, be sure to read the following! Prestige® inserts are designed to utilize internal, in-line, or remote blowers. Other blowers CANNOT be substituted. Select the series best suited for your application. Units labeled "NB" are for use with in-line blowers or remote blowers. Units labeled "600" or “1200” come with preinstalled 600 or 1200 CFM motors. Before installing ANY unit, inspect and test blowers to ensure there is no packing or obstructions remaining in the unit and that blower(s) spin freely. The custom hood frame must be sized to the shape and total weight of the insert assembly. (See hood liner/insert dimension guide.) Run power cable to the installation location. Stub out a 4-foot length of electrical cable behind the custom hood. DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE USE OF A WALL SWITCH IS NEEDED. A 3" to 4" recess should be provided to allow for a proper capture area. If the cooking product contains a grill (BBQ), a minimum of 6" additional capture area should be provided. The custom hood depth should be at least 19" minimum for common gas or electric cooktops. A 24" depth is to be provided for use with pro-style ranges, whether dual fuel or all gas. If the cooking appliance contains a grill (BBQ) or a high output wok or griddle, the use of an in-line blower or remote blower is highly recommended. NOTE TO INSTALLER: To avoid damage that will not be covered under warranty make sure blowers are free from obstructions (packing and debris) prior to running blowers. Test run blowers before finalizing installation. Check with manufacturer before attempting to use other than Prestige® blower systems. (800.358.8886 for technical information) 4 -Cleaning and MaintenanceBe sure lights are cool before cleaning your insert. Your insert will not function properly if not cleaned regularly and maintained properly. Clean the filters regularly (at least twice a month or every 24 hours of use) by soaking them in soapy water and rinsing them in the dishwasher at the normal cycle. When the filters are removed the accessible interior can be cleaned of grease, again using only soap and water. Burned out halogen light bulbs are exchanged in the same way as normal light bulbs. Make sure to replace them with the same type and wattage (replacement bulbs are Par 16, 60 watt, halogen 115 volt) Make it a habit to turn on the insert on low speed even when you are boiling water. Do not use abrasive or aggressive chemicals! Check the outside end of the duct at least once a year. Make sure that the back draft damper (sold separately) hinges are free of grease and move easily. If you have an insect screen installed in the duct termination, make sure that it is not broken or dislocated. Filters are dishwasher safe or you may hand wash them with warm soapy water. 1) 2) 3) 4) Turn the fan and lights off. Push the filters towards the top and extract downward. When placing filters into the dishwasher be sure that the filters are angled. Drain water and let each filter dry before replacing. 5 -Accessories Sold Separately• In-line blowers IL600, IL1200 and IL1600 • Remote blowers, RB1000, RB1200, RB1600, RB2000 • Transitions TR6x15/8, TR6x15/10 (for use with 1200 blower system), TRC8/6 transition collar (for use with 600 blower) • Wall Caps, WC6HD, WC8HD, WC10HD. In that case, rear ducting is necessary. 1) Lay insert on its face on top of a soft, non-abrasive blanket. 2) Remove the screws from the L-bracket on the blower assembly. DO NOT LOSE SCREWS. 3) Disconnect motor wires from terminal block. 4) Flip the unit so the exit hole is facing the back of the unit. 5) Re-apply the screws to the L-bracket on the blower assembly. 6) Be sure that your unit is secure and in place and available for ducting through the back. -Instructions for connection of optional Wall Switch Kit (UIBWSK)1) Disconnect wires from Fan and Light switches from the wiring harness supplied with your insert. 2) Connect Fan and Light switches to harness supplied with Prestige® wall switch kit 3) Make all electrical connections between supplied harness and wires for wall switch inside of insert electrical box 4) Before hanging your hood and wall switch kit, be sure that the connections made are fully operational. *Be sure to have a licensed electrician make all connections to prevent from electric shock. By using a Wall Switch Kit you will render the onboard controls on your ventilation hood non-operational.* 10 -Installation GuideNOTE: During installation, protect countertop and/or cooking appliances. 1) Choose an installation height that is comfortable for the user. IMPORTANT: Most building codes require a 30" minimum clearance from the top of a surface burner to the underside of any combustible material. 2) Choose the appropriate cutout dimension from the cutout dimension section (page 13). Mark the underside of the wood hood, alcove, or hearth making sure you leave adequate clearance for the stainless steel trim overlay and body of the hood liner. Cut along your marked line. 3) Caution: SWITCH POWER OFF AT SERVICE PANEL. Insert 115-volt line through the 7/8" hole that is punched through the back of the unit and attach with the appropriate ROMEX or BX connector. 4) Attach the metal duct to the unit either directly to the collar provided or by using a duct transition. See chart B. NOTE: USE RIGID METAL DUCTWORK ONLY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE FLEXIBLE DUCT OR PLASTIC DU FLOW RESTRICTIONS AND GREASE BUILD UP WILL OCCUR. 5) Lift hood liner into position. Fasten to underside of the wood hood, alcove or hearth with appropriate fastener. Make certain the unit is fastened securely to prevent vibration. *A licensed electrician should make all electrical connections* 6) Complete the electrical connection in the junction box inside the insert. If equipped with internal fan check to be certain that the fan blade turns freely by hand and there are no packing materials or other obstructions in the motor housing. Also, make sure light bulbs are tightly screwed into sockets. 7) Install stainless steel filters by sliding filters into the top channel then down into the lower channel. 8) Turn power on at service panel. 11 -Cutout DimensionsUse the below dimensions to make the cutout for your Prestige® Model# UIB28-600 UIB34-600 UIB34-1200 UIB40-1200 UIB46-1200 UIB52-1200 UIB58-1200 UIB28-NB UIB34-NB UIB40-NB UIB46-NB UIB52-NB UIB58-NB UIBTF34 UIBTF40 UIBTF46 UIBTF52 UIBTF58 CMUIBTF34 CMUIBTF40 CMUIBTF46 CMUIBTF52 CMUIBTF58 Width 25 1/8" 31 1/8" 31 1/8" 37 1/8" 44 5/8" 50 5/8" 56 5/8" 25 1/8" 31 1/8" 37 1/8" 44 5/8" 50 5/8" 56 5/8" 32 3/4" 38 3/4" 44 3/4" 50 3/4" 56 3/4" 32 3/4" 38 3/4" 44 3/4" 50 3/4" 56 3/4" Depth 13 5/8" 13 5/8" 13 5/8" 13 5/8" 16 5/8" 16 5/8" 16 5/8" 13 5/8" 13 5/8" 13 5/8" 16 5/8" 16 5/8" 16 5/8" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 21 1/4" 12 -Installation of In-Line or Remote blowerUsing the harness supplied with your Prestige® in-line or remote blower, plug into connector located near insert finger guard.
