Treadmills
An essential part of a healthy life plan includes an exercise routine
which will not only work around your schedule, but something you
can do year round and anywhere you want to be.
Running or walking is one of the best forms of exercise compared
to other exercises such as Pilates, or weightlifting because of the
natural way your body moves. You can also perform this exercise
anywhere you are and need very little equipment. As a result, you
will be more likely to continue running/walking throughout your life.
If you are serious about taking advantage of this natural form of
exercise, you will need to prepare yourself for unexpected events
such as rain, snow or pesky neighbors. The safest and most
convenient way to run or walk is by using a treadmill.
If you are considering buying a treadmill, there are a few things
you should familiarize yourself with before actually going out (or
online) and purchasing one:
1. Price: When it comes to treadmills, the more you pay the better
machine you will get. This is because you are paying for added
accessories and more stability. Compare it to buying a car. The
basic model will do the job. You might become bored with the lack
of extras, but if you are on a budget, this will do fine for you.
Remember, you can always upgrade. Then there comes the midrange model. More accessories are added, which can make the ride
smoother and a bit more lively, and the price is still pretty sensible.
If you are really in the mood to splurge, the high quality treadmills
will shock you with more bells and whistles than you could ever
dream of. Some people, however, may become overwhelmed by all
the present courses, heart monitors, incline levels, cup holders,
book holders, and digital programming offered by top-of-the-line
treadmills. Browse around online to see which add-ons you will
enjoy and which you can live without, this will narrow down your
choices and keep you from getting too carried away by the latest

and greatest.
2. Stability: Make sure you wear your workout clothes when
shopping for treadmills, you will want to "test drive" certain models
to see if they are stable enough for your running/walking form. You
will want to be cautious of machines that shake or rattle when you
are going full speed. A good stable ride will make a world of
difference in your safety and will also cut down on the noise level.
Also take into consideration the motor volume, if you plan to read,
watch the television or listen to music, a noisy motor will quickly
become a big distraction.
3. Size: In the store and especially online, size can be deceiving.
Make sure to measure the room which will be housing this machine
and allow for plenty of "walk-around" space. When you are buying,
check the dimensions. Size is not always an indicator of quality.
Treadmills might seem a bit pricy, but they will pay for themselves
over time with convenience and indoor safety. Plus, your exercise
routine can be more consistent with a treadmill. Look online for
bargains. You might be surprised by the prices and options
available. With a little research, you will surely be able to find the
perfect treadmill for you and your budget.
Treadmills - Walking Your Way To Better Health
Walking is one of the most natural, everyday movements that an
individual can make. For years, this simple act has been believed to
help improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress and burn calories
at the same time. Because not everyone has the convenience or the
safety of walking outdoors, treadmills are designed to offer the
same benefits without having to leave home.
While there are different variations of each, there are basically two
types of treadmills. The first is a manual treadmill, which is
powered solely by the individual. This device is not programmable
and, therefore, is designed to keep up with the speed of the
individual rather than the other way around. An electronic treadmill,
on the other hand, can be programmed for the individual to keep
up with the pace of the machine. With varying speeds and
-4-

positions, electric treadmills can be designed to provide a slow or
brisk walk at a flat or sloped angle.
A recent study divided individuals into two different groups, one of
which participated in 30 minutes of exercising on treadmills while
the other group spent 30 minutes resting. Each of the two group's
progress was monitored during the treatment which, at the
conclusion, showed that both groups experienced a reduction in
negative feelings, stress and tension. The group that spent 30
minutes training on the treadmills, however, also admitted to
feeling an improvement in overall well-being. According to this
study, walking is not only good for physical health, but proved to be
beneficial for reducing stress and improving overall feelings of
wellness.
While the study adds credence to the theory that walking is a
positive exercise activity overall, it also lends truth to the idea that
individuals do not have to walk outside in order to get the benefits
of a regular walking routine. Treadmills are designed with indoor
fitness in mind, which was the equipment of choice used in the
aforementioned study. The use of a treadmill is especially beneficial
during harsh winter months at times when walking outdoors may
be slippery, in areas that are unsafe to walk or for individuals who
simply prefer to exercise at home. Walking is believed to aid in the
reduction of stress, the fight against obesity, cardiovascular disease
and may be the most convenient exercise in existence.
The information in this article is intended for informational purposes
only. It should not be used in place of, or in conjunction with,
professional medical advice and/or recommendations. Before
beginning any type of exercise regimen, including one that involves
the use of treadmills, individuals should consult their physician.
Treadmills For Health And Life
It’s not always practical to go outside to jog or walk. Maybe you live
in the big city or maybe it’s winter and you can’t really enjoy the
outdoors. That’s where exercise treadmills come in. Treadmills allow
you the freedom to simulate walking and jogging without having to
actually go anywhere. Simply put, exercise treadmills have a
-5-

conveyor belt which moves antagonistically to the user’s direction
of horizontal movement. Okay, that may not have been simple.
Essentially, the belt on treadmills moves in the opposite direction
that you do.
Exercise treadmills have been heavily endorsed by most health
experts since walking is considered one of the best cardiovascular
workouts possible. We all know that combining a good workout plan
with a good eating plan is the best way to lose weight and stay fit.
Exercise treadmills help you do that in any weather, on your terms.
The speed of the treadmills can be adjusted to suit your capabilities
so you won’t injure yourself.
There are two basic types of exercise treadmills: manual treadmills
and electric treadmills. In manually operated treadmills, you act as
the engine. The belt only moves when you’re actually walking on it,
so the faster you go the faster it goes. Electric exercise treadmills
tend to be a little more polished. The speed of the belt can be
adjusted by speed controls so you can set it to any speed you’re
comfortable with. These treadmills also tend to have more
sophisticated displays and can usually monitor your heart rate. This
is especially important for people who have heart conditions but
also need to keep fit.
Of course, you have to pay for these extras and electric exercise
treadmills can cost as much as ten times the amount of manual
treadmills. The actual price of the treadmills depends on their level
of quality and durability. Another factor is how smart the treadmills
are. You read right. Today’s high end treadmills actually have the
ability to change their speed to match your pace, without you
having to adjust anything.
Unfortunately, exercise treadmills are excessively boring since
there’s no change in scenery. And they take up a fair amount of
space in your home. Plus, you need to make sure small children
can’t get on the treadmills so they don’t hurt themselves. Still,
exercise treadmills are growing in popularity. There’s not a quality
gym that doesn’t boast at least three treadmills these days.
Treadmills really are a great way to shed those few extra pounds or

just keep in shape, especially if you’ve got some music on.
Treadmills - Get Fit Stay Fit
Your exercise program could benefit from the use of treadmills.
Using a treadmill provides a wonderful cardiovascular workout for
your heart, your lungs, and your circulation. There low impact on
your joints, which makes it easier and less painful to workout.
Pregnant women will get an excellent workout. Its low impact and
cardiovascular nature it builds endurance which will no doubt help
during labor. The lower end models are not expensive and
treadmills are easy to use. Using a treadmill could help you lose
weight and even body fat.
That they don't take up a lot of space is a non-physical benefit.
There are some that could take up a whole room almost but if
space is the issue, than you can find manual treadmills that fold
and are powered by your movement only. Talk to professionals and
do your research to find out which one might be appropriate for
you.
Comparing different models is best. Do you know what features
you're looking for on a treadmill? You should look at certain things
when you are comparing various models. All you really want to do
is workout so this can all be overwhelming.
The size of your machine can be affected by the type of the motor.
The most important things to look at are the belt trackers. This is
the type of movement of the belt and the placement of the running
belt as you work out. You don't want a belt that's jerky you want it
to move as smoothly as possible over the rollers.
Have you seen the check out belts that move and then jump and
move again etc.? There can be more impact than is necessary on
your joints and injury can result if the movement on your treadmill
is like that. Something else to look at is the length and the width of
the belt.
A belt that is too short can cause you to ¡±run-off the end of the
-7-

belt. A narrow belt might not necessarily support your stance. If
possible try out the machine you want or one that is very much like
it. The type and percentage of the incline will affect your joints and
your workout.
As you progress, on most treadmills you can adjust the incline to be
as if you were climbing a steep hill. How fast the belt moves should
also be adjustable also. Do you know what the minimum speed and
maximum speed is? This knowledge will help you plan your workout
routine and make it more effective.
Your treadmill console should a heart rate monitor as one of its
main features. If you know your resting heart rate and your target
heart rate which is the highest number you can reach for maximum
benefits from your workout, your workout will be more beneficial.
Your speed, your time and your distance should also be displayed
on the console.
Before you attempt to use your treadmill it is of the utmost
importance that you learn to properly use your treadmill. The
display on the control panel should be clear and easy to read. Is the
software program necessary to be able to use the control panel?
A noisy treadmill is something you don't want. There will obviously
be some noise but you don't want it to be overwhelming. What is
the acceptable level of noise for you? Is the belt thick enough? If a
belt is too thin it could wear out too soon, so you would want an
appropriately thick belt so it will last.
Stretching can occur with some belts. Checking to see that your
belt isn't cracked anywhere or stretched, make sure the monitor is
functioning properly. Consider the weight of the machine. A few of
the delivery companies will bring your machine to your door but it's
up to you to get it in the house and set it up.
The look of the machine is important because if it doesn't appeal to
you, you will be less apt to use it. How easy will it be to store it
when you aren't using it? Before you bring it home, consider the
probability that it will stay in the same place when it's not in use,

then you need to decide if this is ok with you.
Don't put your treadmill near walls to prevent injury. You should put
it approximately eight feet away from walls, ledges or windows. You
should put the wires and the power supply out of walking areas or
it should be taped down to prevent someone from tripping while
getting off the treadmill. There are a few tips about how to use
your new treadmill.
Before getting on the belt, straddle it and make sure it is set at the
proper speed. Your feet will follow your eyes so keep them straight
ahead. Staying in the center of the belt will help prevent slips and
falls.
Treadmills Shed Calories
Treadmills are a great way to workout. They give a complete body
workout and help in shedding the calories very fast. However they
are high impact cardio vascular machines and doctor's advice is
needed before you can start working out on a treadmill. Thus it can
put strain on the knee muscles and the joints. Hence patients who
have arthritis in the knee, or foot and knee problems are advised to
stay away from treadmills. Treadmills should be bought only after
reading the treadmill reviews as well as treadmill ratings.
Manual treadmills cost a lot less but don't provide too many
functions, which the higher end models do. For home use also,
many people prefer the powered treadmill as it gives them a variety
of workouts in their home. These disadvantages withstanding, the
treadmills machines provide a great workout. Whatever be the time
of the day and the season, one can easily workout and keep in
shape whether at the gym or at home with a treadmill.
Another disadvantage of the treadmill is that many people have
been known to fall off the ramp. While exercising, this can cause
injury. Hence many of them come with a safety latch, therefore the
treadmill machines become more safe. One end of the latch is
attached to the clothing of the exerciser, while the other is attached
to the machine. If the person goes too far, the safety latch is
detached from the machine, which brings the treadmill to the stop.

When buying a treadmill, look for the treadmills, which have got
good treadmill reviews as well as good treadmill ratings. You can
look for these on the websites dedicated to exercise and treadmills
as well as magazines. There are many options to choose from.
These range from the manual to the powered and the electrical
treadmills. They can start as low as $200 and can cost up to $3000.
Treadmills Boost Your Health
Treadmills are very popular methods of exercise. These exercise
machines have been helping people lose weight and get in shape
for many years now. Buying a treadmill is not hard but if you have
ever done it, you know that it can be expensive. It is an investment
you will greatly benefit from but you need to choose carefully
before you buy. There are many reasons why you would choose a
treadmill for yourself. You can improve your fitness and your health.
You can build and maintain your fitness level all in the comfort of
your home. However, you also need to be sure that before you buy
a treadmill and begin a training program that you do it in the
correct way to remain safe and healthy.
Before you purchase a treadmill you need to know what features to
look for to be sure you are getting the best one for you and your
needs. Some things to look for are:
The Motor: A motorized treadmill has an inbuilt motor that makes
the belt and lift operate. A bonus of motorized treadmills is that
they let you raise and lower the incline easily. With motors you can
change the pace of your workout how you need it to be.
Horsepower: The horsepower is the measure of the treadmill motor.
The continuous horsepower is how well the treadmill can work
without lagging. The peak horsepower is how much power the
treadmill has for short bursts.
Incline: The incline is used to mimic the natural human style of
walking or running. Manual incline lets you change it yourself by
speeding up your pace. A power incline lets you adjust the incline
while you are walking or running.

Belts and Decks: A thicker belt gives you more cushion for your
legs and joints. Short belts give you a faster pace and some people
prefer these.
Speed: When you think of a treadmill, you often think of the speed.
Most go from 0 to 10 MPH.
Computer Controls: Treadmills all have some type of computer
control to keep them going. Many have odometers and
speedometers and some even have pre-programmed workouts.
The Benefits Of Treadmill Exercises
When we think of exercise we often think of an expensive gym
filled with others. For some people they aren’t comfortable
venturing to a gym and working out in front of other people. For
them purchasing a piece of exercise equipment for their home is a
better choice.
Although there are numerous different choices in home exercise
equipment, one particular piece of equipment stands out. The
treadmill is an affordable choice and with its ease of use it’s perfect
for almost every member of the family.
The benefits of treadmill exercise are far reaching. Not only does it
afford you the same benefits of a brisk walk but there are other
elements in play as well.
One of the benefits of treadmill exercise is that engaging in exercise
each day helps with sleep. If you take a few moments of your time
each day to use the treadmill you’ll find that you are more tired
around bedtime and you’ll sleep more soundly. The body needs to
nourish itself with sleep after it’s gone through a period of exertion.
When considering the benefits of treadmill exercise people don’t
often consider how the mood can be affected. Regular, daily
exercise can help with feelings of depression or sadness. The time
involved on the treadmill doesn’t have to be long. Even a short ten
or twenty minute period each day can be very beneficial.

Some of the greatest benefits of treadmill exercise can be felt when
you adjust the machine. Treadmills that are run on electricity have
different speed settings. If you are just beginning an exercise
regime than using the lowest speed is advisable.
Even at a low setting your body will enjoy the benefits of treadmill
exercise including an increased heart rate and fat burning. As you
grow more accustomed to the speed you can increase it slowly.
Changing the incline of the track can also result in increased
benefits of treadmill exercise. When you feel as though you are
walking uphill you are focusing on the muscles contained in your
legs and buttocks. For a man or woman wanting to tone up these
areas this can give great results.
Treadmills are one of the easiest pieces of exercise equipment to
use. Once the machine is assembled it is as simple as getting on
and walking or running. The benefits of treadmill exercise can be
felt by anyone including more mature people who are looking for a
safe and easy way to exercise.
Not all treadmills are electric. There are manual versions of
treadmills available. The benefits of treadmill exercise on a manual
treadmill as opposed to an electric version are much the same. The
only difference is that with the manual treadmill you will find
yourself working a bit harder to get the belt to move. This in itself
is a benefit because it requires a bit more exertion on the part of
the person exercising.
Treadmills are available in many designs and in every price range.
If you really want to experience the benefits of treadmill exercise,
purchase a machine today.
Working The Treadmill
The lifestyle of an average person of today is dramatically different
from that of the past years. The convenience of having an
automobile has decreased the time spent in walking to the
destination. Televisions and personal computers have replaced
outdoor activities. Fast foods have become a significant part of the

daily diet. It comes as no surprise that such a
lifestyle can bring about a sedentary life among many, which is the
leading cause of obesity. The awareness of the obesity phenomenon
has lead many people to reconsider their lifestyles and take action
supporting a healthier body through balanced and healthier diets
and religious exercise.
With a variety of exercises available, one would often stop to think
which among these options is not only the one that offers the best
workout but also the most effective calorie-burner.
Believe it or not, opting for a treadmill workout can burn as much
as 700 calories per hour. This not usually the case for other
exercises like the bicycle and rowing machine, which give the
impression of intensive workouts that equal significant calorieburning.
Studies have been made by the Journal of the American Medical
Association that supports this claim. They have compared the
calories burned between the treadmill workout and the bicycle
workout – approximately 200 calories per hour is the cited
significant difference.
Treadmill workout is an innovation on the most superb form of the
all-around exercise – Walking. Not to mention, the treadmill
equipment must be one of the most popular home exercise. People
who are affected by health conditions such as osteoporosis and
hypertension choose this form of exercise because it aims to
develop the lower body to strengthen muscles and build stamina.
The treadmill workout can be considered the best way to get the
most out of routine walks. For one, since this can be an indoor
activity, there is no need to worry if there is going to be any bad
weather. The padded surfaces of the machine will not cause any
strain on the joints compared to pavement because it absorbs more
impact on both the legs and the feet. The overall pace of the
workout can be easily adjusted by toggling the controls on the front
bar.

Working out on the treadmill can be a problem for some people that
there is a tendency to hold on to the arm rest for balance
throughout the exercise. This will significantly reduce the effect of a
good treadmill workout and thus, fewer calories are burnt. For one’s
safety, it is sensible to grab the front bar and get on the treadmill if
it is stationary or if it is slowly
moving to avoid accidents. After getting the hang of the pace, try
to let go of the arm rest to obtain the full effect of a treadmill
workout. In using the treadmill, it is always advisable to start at a
slow rate. Pacing is essential because this will determine the rate or
speed that matches one’s abilities in order to sustain the workout.
Also remember to look straight
and be aware of posture to maintain good form.
Some people prefer to work on an incline while others don’t. If one
is not comfortable with the incline, it is recommended to go for
speed-walking intervals which are alternated with slower walking.
Getting The Most Out Of Your Treadmill Workout
You know what makes exercising on a treadmill so effective in
losing weight and getting in shape – the ability to adjust the incline.
With the push of a button you can adjust the intensity level of your
workout to any degree.
If you live in a flatlander state like Illinois and you run or walk
outside, you’re stuck at one level. With a treadmill you can simulate
running or walk on hills or mountains, and that is where you start
getting the heart beating and the calories burning.
Breaking Out of the Exercise Rut
For those of us who exercise regularly, we tend to get into a rut.
And once you get stuck in a rut you reach a plateau. You find that
you are not losing any more weight, and you are not getting in
better shape. By changing up your routine and the intensity of your
workout you can reach new highs in your personal fitness.
That is why hill and interval training are such popular programs on
the treadmill. In fact, one of the hottest trends in exercising and
weigh loss is High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This new form
-14-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-14-
-15-

of aerobic exercising manages to get the maximum results in less
time. And for us who struggle to find the time to exercise, this type
of workout is very attractive.
Treadmills Are Ideal for Interval Training
High Intensity Interval Training requires exercising at high intensity
levels for 1-3 minutes, and follow-up with a recovery period that is
approximately 2 to 3 times longer. HIIT can apply whether you run
or walk. It just is a matter of raising the incline level and getting
the heart beating faster.
Treadmills are ideal for aerobic workouts like High Intensity Interval
Training. You crank the treadmill up to a high incline for several
minutes then reduce the level and slow down to a walk or slow jog.
You can either use existing hill or interval programs on the treadmill
(most at least have hill training), or you can manually control the
workout to a level you feel comfortable with.
The important point is get out of the rut. Experiment with different
speeds and incline levels. As you start getting comfortable at a
certain level for a certain period, increase both the incline and the
period of time. The benefits of breaking out of the rut is burning
more calories, getting in better shape and breaking up the boredom
of your exercise routine.
If you plan to increase your level of exercising, make sure you are
physically in shape to handle the intensity. You may want to check
with your physician first, particularly if you are just starting back
into a fitness routine.
The #1 fear that people have when investing in a home treadmill
(or any piece of exercise equipment) is that they won't use it.
You know the story. It gets delivered, you set it up and enjoy it for
a few days...and then it sits...and waits.
A few months down the road, you notice how dusty it has become
and how much space it's taking up. And you remember how much
weight you were determined to lose by using it faithfully every day.

5 Ways To Get The BEST Use From Your Treadmill
A treadmill provides the best overall cardiovascular workout & it's
still the number one exercise machine for those who want to lose
weight. So it's an investment in your health that will pay large
dividends...if you are prepared to get the maximum benefit from it!
#1) Do your research first
Make sure you look at what each treadmill offers you and compare
it to your unique needs.
For example, if you live in a condo and/or like things neat and
clean, a folding treadmill might suit you best. If you want a folding
treadmill, do you prefer a manual folding treadmill (like most
folding treadmills) or do you want a shock-assisted folding treadmill
with wheels on the bottom that's easy to move?
If you like to drink water during your workout, make sure there's a
water bottle holder included in the treadmill console (it might
surprise you how many treadmills do not have this feature.)
Do you get bored easily and need a challenge? What about getting
a treadmill with lots of user programs or one that is iFit compatible?
These things may seem little and maybe it might cost you a bit
more; but if it means you're actually going to enjoy your workout it
will be well worth it!
#2) Place the treadmill in a 'happy' spot.
By 'happy' I mean well-lit, open and stimulating. Don't put it so you
face the bare wall when you walk or run. I've tried this this and the
workouts don't last long! If you get bored easily, put it facing the
television or facing a window where you can have an attractive view
while working out.
Rooms and spaces have definite 'feels' to them and that will affect
-16-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-16-
-17-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-17-
the success of your workouts. Make sure your treadmill is placed in
an area that makes you feel energized, happy and mentally
stimulated.
#3) Get your exercise arsenal ready BEFORE the treadmill arrives.
Do you like listening to fast music when you exercise? Do you like
watching your favorite movies? What about reading magazines?
What inspires you to work out and feel your best?
Get these things ready even before your treadmill arrives and you'll
be three-quarters of the way there. Have several workout or
favorite CD's around. Get your favorite movies or shows on tape.
Gather your favorite magazines.
By having an 'exercise' stash around your treadmill, you'll be
inspired to workout AND you won't be stuck running around looking
for something to do when you want to start exercising.
Again, this may seem simple, but it works. Why do you think gyms
have magazines, televisions and CD players handy?
#4) Make an exercise plan.
Before you start working out, try making a plan, a "roadmap to
your rock-hard body" so to speak. By writing down how long and
what kind of workout you'll be doing in week 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, you'll
get yourself psyched up for success.
Remember that every time you workout, you are planting the seeds
for the kind of dream body that you want.
By having a plan, you can see just how many seeds you've planted
(and even how long it will take to start reaping the results!) Have
fun with it and you'll be motivated to achieve your health goals
(and get maximum benefits from your treadmill!)
#5) Track your progress
-17-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-17-
-18-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-18-
Ok this is related to #4 but it's more of an ongoing thing. By
tracking your progress every day, you get a major sense of
accomplishment which snowballs into even greater fat-burning
results.
I suggest you have 'minimum goals' like "I'll walk for at least 10
minutes." or "I'll do 5-30 second intervals." These are easy to do
and you'll probably go beyond them - which will encourage you
even further and heighten your sense of accomplishment.
And of course, you're also getting maximum benefit from your
treadmill!
Those are 5 ways to get best use from your home treadmill. Just
remember that even a little bit of preparation will pay off large
dividends in the long run.

Treadmill machines are a great way to exercise. They are one of the
best ways to have cardio vascular workouts. It helps to lose weight
considerable as well as tone up muscles. Whether its raining
outside or sunny outside, one can easily get on the treadmill
machine and have a go. The best pat is one can listen to music and
even read a book while on the treadmill. While on a cross trainer or
a fitness rower, its no possible to do the same. Manual as well as
powered treadmills is also available. The manual treadmills are
much cheaper than the powered treadmills.
The various companies, which make a variety of treadmills, are
Proform Weslo, Reebok, and Johnson. They make treadmills to suit
every budget and workout. Beginners as well as those who want an
advanced workout can use treadmills. The prices of treadmill
machines start from $300 and these treadmill machines can even
cost as much as $3000. Of course the more expensive treadmill
machines offer a variety of functions and are meant more for gym
use rather than home use. The treadmills, which are meant for
home use, can even be folded away. The running belt wraps around
the console and thus it can be stowed away.

The more expensive versions of the treadmill machines have a
variety of functions. They also have a console, which offers many
resistance levels. The incline of the treadmill can also be adjusted.
Therefore the treadmill can simulate the action of walking uphill.
Those who want an advanced workout should opt for treadmill
machine, which will help them in their workout, thus treadmill
machines offer a variety of advantages for the runner. The control
panel on the treadmill machine also gives the reading for the heart
rate; pulse rate, the miles covered and speed can be adjusted as
per convenience.
The Best Treadmill
When searching for the best treadmill for you, ask yourself a couple
questions.
• How often will you use it and how much time per day?
• How much space do you have?
The most important part of treadmill is the motor. When looking at
how much horsepower the motor has, think of the term “continuous
duty” – that’s how long the treadmill can keep working at the rate
you’re walking. If you’re a runner, then you’re probably going to
want a continuous duty of 2.5. On the other hand, if you just want
to use your treadmill for walking, then 1.5 should be fine.
Your height plays a role in getting the most from your treadmill. If
you’re taller, look for a treadmill with a belt that’s 60 inches. You
don’t want to end up with a piece of exercise equipment that
doesn’t “fit”.
Give the potential treadmill a fair ride in the store if you can. Really
walk or run on it for at least ten minutes. You may feel a little
strange, exercising in front of other customers as they walk by, but
a few minutes of discomfort is nothing compared to having to haul
the equipment back for a refund.
Does the belt cushion your steps adequately? Does the treadmill
hold up as you exercise on it, or is it unstable and wiggly? If it’s
that way at the store, it’ll be that way and more so at home as you
-19-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-19-
-20-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-20-
continue to use it.
What happens if the treadmill breaks or you find a part that doesn’t
work correctly? Will someone come to your home to fix it, or do you
have to lug it back to the store? These questions are important to
ask before the purchase.
The treadmill should have at least a 12 month warranty. Of course,
the manufacturer takes the responsibility of fixing a problem, not
the store itself. So you’re going to be dealing with technicians via
phone.
If your space is limited, consider a treadmill that folds. If you plan
to store it under your bed between uses, make sure it will actually
fit under your bed when in the folded position. If not, it’s not worth
the purchase.
You may want to consider the loudness of the motor. In a large
store, the treadmill won’t sound as loud as it will in your living
room. So if you’re unnerved by the noise at the store, realize it
won’t be any quieter at home.
Using a treadmill can be a terrific form of exercise – as long as you
really have a quality piece of equipment. If you’ve never owned a
treadmill before, it may be wise to purchase one second-handed
-just to see if you will use it. Then, if you’re serious about working
out on your treadmill, seek a higher quality one down the road.
A Treadmill Reader Rack
A treadmill reader rack is a generic term for the basket which holds
the varying amounts of instruments that the modern day treadmill
offers the consumer as part of accessory pack that comes with your
treadmill.
Bearing in mind the cost of a new treadmill, the quality of the
machine itself should not surpass the quality needed, and expected,
of the read out equipment that will come with it. In addition to the
durability that one expects from a treadmill, the reader rack should
be easy to use and give you the information that you require to
-20-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-20-
-21-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-21-
complete your work out with the optimum effect. You really don't
want to be worrying about the onboard computers when you are
doing a 20k run on your treadmill!
The treadmill reader rack should offer good ergonomic designs, as
well as an ease of use. They should supply the information that you
require on a wide range of relevant statistics, such as calories used
up, speed, miles (or kilometres) run and heart rate amongst other
things.
In addition to statistics on your own personal well being during your
work out, a treadmill should also offer lots of practical functionality.
By that I mean the means to control the type of workout that you
are experiencing, by altering the speed at which you can run, or the
incline of the slope. In an ideal world, a good treadmill should also
let you vary both of these factors during the course of a workout, to
give you precisely the type of exercise that you are looking for.
Some treadmills are specially designed for the rehabilitation of
either the athlete or the patient, but, in either case, the machine
should give you all the information that you require. If you are a
sports person or just someone in the recovery room, the right
information must be delivered in order to fulfil the criteria of the
treadmill that you are using to give you the maximum benefit.
Some machines actually go a stage further and go beyond the
functional to what could only be described as luxury. What else
could you call magazine racks and space for your MP3?
The onboard computers of some treadmills also allow you to
program and save custom routines that you might have entered
yourself.
Either way, a treadmill should give you what you need - you should
not compromise on quality, nor functionality.
Choosing The Right Treadmill For You
Convenience, ease and the efficiency of Treadmills have made them
a revelation in the health industry. We have gone through such a
-21-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-21-
-22-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-22-
variety of fitness exercises which either break your back trying to
get them right, or are too difficult to master, let alone do them
every day. But with a treadmill, you can burn calories the simplest
was possible, by walking or running. Which, by the way, are the two
most natural exercises you can imagine! You walk when you are a 2
year old, some even before that, and yet when it comes to
exercising people turn to complex gym routines and diets to stay
fit!
Work schedules, personal security, weather and health status; all
make us reluctant to go out doors for walks on a regular basis. So
it isn't a surprise that even the world's most advanced societies are
facing health dilemmas. People in general don't have time for gym
workouts, and those who do are too exhausted by long work days
to do them. As for recommenders of walking as an exercise,
Treadmills not only make exercise easier, they cut out the obtrusive
factors which hinder us in forming routines.
In addition to providing some very helpful bits of information along
the way, treadmills provide a wide variety of exercise options. From
walking to hill climbing, jogging to running, you can pace yourself
as you like so there is something for everyone in the use of
treadmills. However, with the market being so overcrowded with a
wide range of treadmills, we see a need for guidance in making the
best choices for you.
At the moment there are three distinct types of treadmills available
on the market. So to pick out the best treadmill for you, let's have
a quick look at what each one of them has to offer.
First up is the Manual Treadmill; you don't have to be a fitness guru
to understand that a manual treadmill is non-motorized. It's a
simple machine with a belt and rollers that you move with your
effort. The simpler a machine, the fewer are the chances of things
going wrong with it. So that's a positive feature; it will last longer.
However, since the treadmill's belt doesn't move itself you can set
your own pace, which is not so good for the lazy people who are
unlikely to push themselves.
-22-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-22-
-23-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-23-
Next, there is the Motorized Treadmill with features to set the pace
of your walk, jog or run. You can set your required pace and keep
up with it over a period of time to get optimum exercise out of the
time you spend on it. Then there are the 'incline' options in some
motorized treadmills; these can help you decide the amount of
incline you want for your run. The negatives go with the positives
though, it's a complicated piece of equipment and when it has
problems they are complicated as well. Plus a motorized treadmill is
going to be more expensive, compared to a manual treadmill, but
with those features, you have to decide for what you want.
Now you can't say you don't have space for a treadmill; Foldable
Treadmills have made that excuse redundant. Foldable treadmills
can be stored in a negligible amount of space. These are great for
use in the office or at home, whenever you take a break. So, if you
are facing schedule constraints, or are just too lazy to take up
regular exercise, then a foldable option might just be the best
treadmill for you.
Frankly speaking, there is no hard and fast rule to determine which
type of treadmill is better than the other. Though a comparison of
treadmill features does help you decide which one is the best for
you. Keep in mind, the treadmill that suits a friend perfectly isn't
certain to be even rated as 'decent' for you. So read up some
treadmill reviews and choose according to your own situation.
A top factor that will affect your choice would be your personal age
and weight. Though some might say that exercise is necessary for
everyone, but the mode of exercise has to differ accordingly with
the individual traits. A bulky person may need a wider belt or the
handlebars may obstruct the usual path of the arm movement, so
check the details before you buy. Age matters when you choose as
well, especially for older people, the resilience of the deck and the
heart rate control are very important. Safety features help every
age so make sure that you don't compromise on those. Similarly,
whether you opt for running or walking determines not only the top
speed you need from your treadmill, but also the size of the belt as
well.
-23-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-23-
-24-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-24-
You look for a treadmill when you are conscious that you need to
improve on your fitness levels. However, your aspirations determine
the sort of treadmill you need. If you want to burn as much as you
can in good time, trying out the incline options isn't a bad idea at
all. Again heart rate interactive checks are very handy to get you to
your optimum fitness levels without doing damage to your body.
'Who will be using it?' is just as important as 'how will you use it?',
if you buy a treadmill while targeting the fitness improvement of
your whole family, then keep in mind any inhibitions that might
stop a member from utilizing the treadmill to the full. Chances are
if you are willing to spend enough, there will be a treadmill that will
suit a diverse group of individuals like a glove!
Long or short workouts determine the quality of motor you need for
your treadmill. If you use the treadmill in short bursts the 'peak
duty' might not be as useless as you first thought. It can be
maintained for a short period of time by the treadmill so perhaps
that restriction can help keep your treadmill's price down
How much do you use it? The amount of workout that is likely to be
done on your treadmill should affect your choice of equipment. The
more you want to use it, the more we would recommend that you
go for high quality treadmills. Repairs will even out the price
difference between cheap treadmills and high-end treadmills when
you compare them in the long run. Consequently, it would be
advisable to go for the higher priced quality treadmill rather than a
cheap treadmill that would spend more time with the repairman
than it does with you!
The Pros And Cons Of Owning Your Own Treadmill
While treadmills are a great alternative to real running and
complicated exercises, however, they are not without their
downsides.
To start off with, treadmills can be very expensive, especially if you
buy one with all the luxurious special features. By the time you add
in sales taxes, delivery charges and all the rest, you’re looking at a
pretty significant chunk of change. Of course, there’s nothing
saying that you need to get one with absolutely every feature
-24-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-24-
-25-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-25-
around – if it’s your first treadmill, you’ll be absolutely fine with a
more basic model, whatever the salesman might tell you.
The next problem is that treadmills can be very large, and there
might not be space in your house. Again, this problem is quite
easily solved, as long as you keep your wits about you and realise
exactly how big the treadmill you’re buying is, instead of just
blindly choosing one that takes your fancy and hoping for the best.
There are surprisingly small treadmills on the market for smaller
homes – all you have to do is look for them.
Some people complain of loud motors on some cheaper treadmills,
and it can be annoying if you’re not used to it. A good solution is to
put on the TV or listen to some music, which also helps with the
boredom that many people experience when they just run on a
treadmill and do nothing else at the same time.
The final point is one that is important to people who are training
for actual races. As treadmills have no wind resistance, they are
quite unsuitable for training for real outdoor running – you should
be getting out there and doing it on a track instead. While a
treadmill can come close to simulating wind resistance if you adjust
its slope gradient, it’s not good enough for serious training, and you
might injure yourself if you run a race after only training on a
treadmill.
Treadmill Buying Basics
Treadmills are a large investment financially and in your fitness,
therefore much thought and preparation should go into the
purchase of your new treadmill.
Having your treadmill motor blow up or your belt warp severely
after only a few months use is not something you want, so here are
a few basic treadmill buying tips.
Warranty - Any treadmill brand worth its weight will offer a nice
warranty on their product. Usually the motor, parts, and labor will
be covered under different warranties. Make sure you get at least a
5 year warranty on you motor. After the treadmill purchase make
-25-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-25-
-26-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-26-
sure you abide by the warranty and send in any user registrations if
required.
Walking Surface - How big is the surface you actually walk or run
on? My first treadmill had a 16 inch width that seemed fine in the
store, however after further usage I found myself always aware of
where the sides were and extra careful not to "step off the edge".
Make sure the width of your treadmill will be comfortable for
everyone in your household (I prefer 20 inch widths) and also the
length is long enough for the long legged members of your family.
Weight Limit - Most treadmills have a weight limit. Too much weight
can put a strain on the frame, belt, and especially motor of the
treadmill. Make sure your potential treadmill has a weight limit to
accommodate all of its potential users to avoid putting undue wear
and tear on your new treadmill.
Test Things Out - Get on your treadmill and give it a test drive.
Does everything work as the advertisement states? Try the heart
monitor if it's a feature, does it appear to be working properly? Is
the treadmill quiet to your liking, or will it be an annoyance when
home? Are the displays big enough for you to see easily?
Safety - Make sure your new treadmill has an emergency stop
mechanism. This can help prevent serious injuries during
malfunction or accidents.
Additional Features - Treadmills come in many shapes and sizes
with various features. Some additional features you may look for
are a water bottle holder, calorie counter, book stand, incline, and
preset and programmable workout routines.
Once you've made your final treadmill buying decision, make sure
you shop around for the best price for your new treadmill. Getting
all the features you want at the price you want makes for happy
treadmilling!
3 Things You Must Know Before Buying
Buying a treadmill? You'll probably be making several treadmill
-26-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-26-
-27-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-27-
comparisons when doing your research.
Here are 3 things you must know when making treadmill
comparisons in order to find the best one for you.
#1 Compare Apples To Apples
Don't compare prices between treadmills online and treadmills sold
at a store. They are two different marketplaces, each with their
own advantages and disadvantages.
When I was selling a Proform treadmill many years ago, the
gentleman buying it had gone online and seen the same model for
less. I had to explain to him that this price was an online price only.
Buying a treadmill online can sometimes be considerably cheaper,
depending on the manufacturer, sales, closeouts, etc.
So when comparing treadmill prices side by side, make sure you
compare online treadmills to online treadmills and store treadmills
to store treadmills.
Also make sure you're comparing the same models. It sounds
obvious but some treadmill brands have so many similar sounding
treadmills in their line-up it's easy to get confused!
#2 Know the Key Ingredients to a Quality Treadmill
Make sure you know the top 4 key ingredients to a quality
treadmill:
-
Motor Power
Stability
Warranty
Cushioning
Your motor is the heart of your treadmill and adequate motor
power is extremely important. Most experts recommend at least a
1.5 HP motor although I prefer a 2.0 HP or higher to ensure you
don't burn the motor out (and then have to pay costly repair fees).
-27-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-27-
-28-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-28-
Stability ensures that your treadmill will not shake or wobble when
you start to run on it.
Your warranty will protect your investment and quality treadmills
will include a warranty. (You shouldn't have to pay extra for a
treadmill warranty - unless you want to, of course!)
Cushioning is the ability of the treadmill to absorb the force of your
step. Higher cushioning means lower impact on your joints and
ligaments. Cushioning is extremely important as poor cushioning
can cause injury and muscle strain
#3) Know What YOU Need When Reviewing Treadmills
Many people get sold on all of the 'neat' features of the treadmill but don't ever consider if they'll really use them.
For example we'd all love to own a commercial-grade, luxury
treadmill - but for many people, it's MORE than they need. On the
other hand, a serious runner might actually need that kind of
stability and cushioning in a treadmill.
If you don't really care about 30 workout programs, why pay extra
for them? If you know your 6'2" son will be running on the
treadmill, remember to look for one with a longer running area and
adequate user weight capacity.
By knowing what you you need before comparing treadmills, you'll
save yourself a lot of time and frustration.
So there you have it - keep these 3 points in mind when making
treadmill comparisons and you'll be well on your way to making an
excellent treadmill purchase! Enjoy and have fun!
What Most People Don't Know About Treadmill Ratings
If you're buying a treadmill, chances are you'll want to research
before you buy. Everyone wants to get the best deal for a discount
price. They also want to find the best treadmill to suit their workout
-28-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE

needs.
So you'll probably be interested in looking at various treadmill
ratings or reviews. But why are there so many different ratings and
which one is the most accurate? Here's a few things most buyers
don't know about treadmill ratings.
There are really 2 types of treadmill ratings:
1) Consumer Ratings
2) Expert Ratings
User Treadmill Ratings:
Consumer treadmill ratings are done by the layperson who has
bought and used the specific treadmill. Many websites allow anyone
to go online and post a review of their treadmill.
Customer reviews and ratings can be very valuable when searching
for a treadmill - however keep in mind several things:
#1) No treadmill has a 100% perfect track record. Even the BEST
treadmill manufacturers sometimes make a dud.
And it's usually the people that have had BAD experiences that
leave negative reviews of their treadmills, not the many that have
had good experiences with the same treadmill.
They have every right to do this and hopefully the treadmill
manufacturers read these reviews and do something about them.
Just remember that one bad review doesn't prove it's a low quality
brand.
#2) The treadmill industry is growing more competitive each year.
And marketing is a huge portion of the treadmill industry since
treadmill manufacturers KNOW you're going to research treadmill
ratings before you buy.
So while I'm not making any accusations, I have read 'customer
-29-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-29-
-30-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-30-
reviews' that are clearly NOT written by the average buyer. They
sound like they're written by somebody working for the competition
- someone well versed in the art of sales psychology and who
knows more about treadmills than the average person. Again, not
making any accusations here - just keep this in mind when reading
user ratings online.
Rule of Thumb: Use common sense. If it sounds like it's written by
a treadmill salesperson, take the treadmill review with a grain of
salt.
Expert Treadmill Ratings:
There are also expert treadmill ratings. These are the ratings
written by the experts in the fitness industry. People like Consumer
Reports, Runner's World, Consumer Guide, Men's Health,
Prevention Magzine are just a few out there. These people rate and
review various treadmills at various times in the year.
While these ratings are much less likely to be tainted by biased
reviewers, here are a few cautions to keep in mind while reading
them:
#1) Each rater has a different rating system and may rate
treadmills on such factors as price, cushioning, stability, quietness,
belt area, warranty, console, electronics, programs, incline and
quality of parts.
So while one reviewer may put more emphasis on cushioning the
other may put more emphasis on warranty. It's nothing to get
confused over - just understand that different experts value
different features. They'll usually have an area where they list
exactly how they rated the treadmills and which features they
valued highly in their review.
#2) Expert ratings also usually don't have time to look at EVERY
treadmill brand on the market. Nobody does. We've been reviewing
treadmills for over 3 years and we still haven't covered all the
brands.
-30-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-30-
-31-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-31-
So just because a certain brand isn't in the ratings, doesn't make it
a poor quality brand. Try to find other reviews on a brand if you
can't find it in your favorite expert ratings list.
One last thing: Many treadmill ratings are also based on
comparison to other similarly priced treadmills on the market.
So if you have a $1000 treadmill that gets 5 stars - that doesn't
necessarily mean that it's better than a $2000 treadmill that gets 4
stars. It means that compared to other $1000 treadmills it is one of
the best values.
By remembering these things when sifting through treadmill
ratings, you're less likely to be confused. And it will be easier to
choose the best quality treadmill for your needs.
11 Tips For The Care Of Your Treadmill
So, you've spent the weeks you needed to research, try out, choose
and purchase your brand new treadmill. You've gotten it assembled
and begun your daily workouts...so what now? Well, even the
highest end commercial treadmills need a bit of love and affection
to keep them purring like a kitten. This guide will tell you
everything you need to know to keep your treadmill in tip top
shape.
Tip #1
The first thing you are going to want to do is get a good treadmill
mat to go underneath your unit. Despite what you think, a treadmill
mat isn't as much for protecting your floor as for protecting your
treadmill. You see, a treadmill's motor builds up a huge static
charge as you work out. The charge will suck dust, lint and debris
into your motor, causing it to clog and run inefficiently. The more
gunk in your motor the worse it will run and the shorter its lifespan
will be. Sliding a nice treadmill mat underneath your equipment will
help reduce that static and the amount of stuff getting sucked up in
it. As a bonus, you'll also be protecting your floor and carpet. Watch
out for cheap mats, tho. If you pick up a budget treadmill mat you
run the risk of having it stain your hardwood floor or stick to your
-31-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-31-
-32-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-32-
carpet. Supermat is a great brand of treadmill mat and can be
purchased for as low as $35.
Tip #2
Sticking with dust and dirt, make sure to dust/clean your treadmill
once every other week. Take special care with the belt area as any
build up should be cleaned off right away or you'll risk reduced
performance.
Tip #3
I know it's going to sound over obvious, but make sure to keep
your power cord well away from the base of the unit and the incline
mechanism. You have no idea how many cords we end up replacing
on our service calls.
Tip #4
If you find your belt slipping, it may be because the belt tracking is
off. You can adjust your tracking the same way you make sure the
belt is properly aligned, with the alignment screws at the rear of
your treadmill. An allen wrench is all you need. A quick quarter
clockwise turn should tighten everything back up. Make sure never
to turn either side more than a quarter turn at any given time
because you the adjustments levels are very fine. Keeping your belt
aligned will reduce the load on you treadbelt and belt guides. Check
out your owner's manual for more information.
Tip #5
A lot of times the cause of miss aligned on a treadbelt is from the
unit not being level. Make sure to get your treadmill level.
Tip #6
Unless specifically isntructed by your owner's manual, do not use
silicone or oils to lubricate your treadmill's deck. A clean, dry, dustfree bed and belt combination is ideal for a long-lasting treadmill. If
your manual recommends the use of a silicone spray for lubrication,
make sure to precisely follow application and scheduling
instructions. Some treadmill decks may require initial waxing to
help reduce friction with the belt. Do not wax a deck unless
recommended by the manufacturer. Lubrication to pretreated wax
-32-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-32-
-33-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-33-
decks may interfere with the wax.
Tip #7
The lowest level of friction between your belt and deck is desired. If
the amount of friction is too high, you'll end up with damage and
wear to both your motor and your year. The best way to judge a
low friction belt is that it will slide when the power is off and you
can manually walk the belt when the treadmill is powered down.
Improper lubrication can lead to overworking your motor.
Tip #8
One of the main problems on most treadmills (home and
commercial) is in the control board. As with any computer, the
treadmill's control board is subject to power surges, improper
grounding and so on. The best way to protect your treadmill's
computer brain is to unplug it when not in use and use a grounded
plug when powered on.
Tip #9
Read your user's manual. I know, I know..."who really reads those
darn things?" Well, you should. Just about everything you need to
know will be found in that little book that came with your treadmill.
Pop it open while you're in the bathroom for a good read.
Tip #10
Never operate your treadmill while wet. Bad idea for so many
reasons.
Tip #11
Last but not least, if you are having trouble with your treadmill and
need it fixed...then call the Treadmill Sensei! That's what we do!
(Ok, so it's a shameless plug...but it's my website so nyah).
Anyway, a few simple steps and you'll be able to take care of your
treadmill so it can continue to help take care of you for years to
come
Shopping For A Treadmill
Treadmills are the aerobic exercise machine of choice for good
-33-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-33-
-34-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-34-
reasons. They are probably the most enjoyable exercise machines,
whether you typically like a slow, comfortable walk or a long run.
Regardless of your age or fitness level, treadmills are suited for
both intense and mild training, and therefore are one of the most
effective pieces of exercise equipment you can buy. A study that
compared exercisers who worked out equally hard for the same
time on several different types of machines found that they
generally burned the most calories on a treadmill. Consumer
Reports research has shown that they're less likely to gather dust
than other types of exercise machines.
A treadmill is judged in several ways. Before you buy any treadmill,
take it for a test run and check for
the following attributes. In addition, look at features, such as
whether the treadmill offers preset programs, or is capable of
memorizing a program you've created for yourself. Some machines
can monitor the user's heart rate and adjust speed and incline to
keep heart rate within a specified range.
The merit of some of these features, like handrails, will vary with
the exerciser's body and motion.
Durability -- is evaluated by using a drum with pneumatic feet
attached. The feet on the rotating drum pound the treadmill to
simulate use by a 180-pound person jogging 500 miles -- the
equivalent of a year's worth of use by a recreational runner. Then
the treadmill is taken apart and examined for damage.
Ergonomics -- how the treadmill fits the user -- and the machine's
ease of use are also examined. You should be able to use a good
treadmill intuitively, or at least without constantly referring to the
owner's manual.
A Thick Deck. The platform on which you'll run or walk is the
machine's deck. A deck that's at least three-quarters of an inch
thick will stand up best to the impact of running. If you're short of
space, look for a deck that folds up. Make sure you can lift the deck
easily and that the latch holds it securely in place.
-34-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-34-
-35-

Wide foot rails. Foot rails are located on either side of the deck.
Make sure you can stand on them while you start up the treadmill
and that they're not tilted or wobbly.
Large belt. Look for a belt that's at least 17 inches wide and 51
inches long. A small belt increases your chances of stepping off
accidentally when it's moving.
Well-designed handrails. They should be close enough to reach if
necessary, but they should not get in the way of your swinging
arms. They should be cushioned if you plan to hold on while you
exercise.
Motor location. Make sure the motor housing is out of kicking range
as you walk or run on the treadmill. Also, look for a quiet motor.
Easy-to-use controls. Avoid slide switches or knobs that you have
to fiddle with to get to a desired setting.
Stability. Be sure the treadmill doesn't wobble or creep across the
floor.
Minimum incline near zero. Models that don't level off below 2
percent can make the workout more strenuous than you want.
Useful programs. If you plan to use preset programs, see if you like
the variety and can easily select the desired program. Check how
the display monitors your progress through the program.
Other Extras. Touches that may help you decide between two
otherwise similar machines include trays and stands to hold reading
material or a remote control, a nest to rest your water bottle, and a
place to safely hang your towel.
Follow these basics and you will end up with a treadmill that will
serve you well for years to come. Here’s a toast to your improved
fitness!

Save Hundreds On Your Next Treadmill
If you're in the market to buy a treadmill, your timing couldn't be
better. Treadmills are giving you more value for your money every
year. In fact according to a recent Runner's World article:
"Today's treadmills are better than ever. In particular, most brands
have improved their stability and controls. Meanwhile, they
continue to offer a dazzling variety of features."
If you're buying a treadmill no doubt you want to get the best
price. Having been researching and reviewing treadmills for over 3
years, I've seen some killer treadmill deals and some completely
overblown, overpriced treadmills.
I've also seen the same treadmill offered at vastly different prices sometimes the difference is as much as $800! And people are still
buying the overpriced treadmills!
There are ways to getting the best price on a high quality home
treadmill that many people don't know about. So to help you save
some money, here are 3 key tips to getting the best price on your
treadmill:
#1 Buy Online
If you want to save money, buy online. This is the case with most
items from computers to DVD's to electronics and especially
treadmills. Because when you buy online, the treadmill dealer
doesn't have to pay to rent a storefront, pay salespeople, pay
hydro, heat, etc.
They can ship directly from their warehouse. This saves them a lot
of money and in turn these savings are passed on to you in the
form of lower prices.
Obviously you don't want to just buy from anyone online. Make
sure the online treadmill dealer offers secure ordering, prevalent
contact information (phone numbers, email, online help, address),
at least a 30 day money back guarantee and of course - high
-36-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-36-
-37-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-37-
quality treadmills. It also helps if they offer customer and/or expert
testimonials.
#2 Buy Direct From the Treadmill Brand Manufacturer
Buying direct from the treadmill manufacturer means you skip the
middleman (i.e. the store), which always has to mark up an item to
make their profit (and pay their employees, rent, etc.) There are
several treadmill manufacturers that sell online direct to the
consumer at wholesale prices and it's a great way to get a brand
name treadmill for a discount price.
Also, if you watch closely, many manufacturers will drop their prices
even more when they are phasing out a certain treadmill. I've seen
a $1500 treadmill go for $899 when the manufacturer was trying to
close the model out.
Again, make sure these treadmill dealers offer secure ordering,
prevalent contact information, at least a 30 day money back
guarantee and high quality treadmills.
#3 Save on Shipping and Sales Tax
Whether it's an online store or an online treadmill manufacturer,
many online dealers offer you free shipping. Some offer free
shipping all the time whereas others offer it at certain times of the
month.
Shipping your treadmill can cost you as much as $200 - so why pay
for it if you can get it free? I've yet to see an actual store offer free
shipping on treadmills - it's always an add on at the cash register.
Another area where you can save money is on sales tax. Many
online dealers won't charge you sales tax (depending on the state)
which can also save you a considerable amount on your treadmill.
Buying A Discount Treadmill
Have you ever noticed how many treadmills are being sold at a
discount prices? Of course, that is part of commercialism. For
example, when was the last time you paid list price for a car or
jewelry?
-37-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-37-
-38-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-38-
What motivated me to write this article is the fact that “Discount
Treadmill” is a very popular search term. People are looking to get
the best deal possible when they purchase a treadmill. That makes
sense, since even a moderate priced treadmill can run from $1,000
- $2,000.
So how do you tell when a treadmill is being sold at a discount?
First, by comparative shopping. You find a particular model that
satisfies your needs and you shop around. Depending on the quality
of the treadmill, you compare prices at the various mass retailers,
large sporting goods stores, specialty fitness stores and online.
In addition, you look for special offers like free shipping, added
accessories and extended warranties. Regarding shipping, some
businesses may drop off a treadmill on your curve, while others will
bring it into your house, set it up and remove the packaging.
Considering the weight of some models, that can add considerable
value.
Discounts from Buying Online
More and more people are going online to purchase a treadmill. Are
they really saving money? Yes and no. Yes, you can save money
from not having to pay sales tax if you purchase from a business
that is not located in your state. You can also find discounts online
that are better deals than you would find in retail stores. Also,
several manufacturers sell direct on the Internet, thus cutting out
the middleman.
In contrast the large sporting goods stores generally sell for the
same price online as they do in their store. Furthermore, many
treadmill manufacturers set a minimum price that any and all
dealers cannot go under, regardless whether they sell online and
off.
Discount Prices vs MSRP
Regarding the manufacturers suggested retail price, that is a
number that has nothing to do with reality. It is deliberately inflated
-38-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-38-
-39-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-39-
in an attempt to make the real selling price less intimidating. Both
manufacturers and retailers play serious games with their prices.
For example, one online retailer that sells private labeled treadmills
lists the MSRP at double the real selling price. They attempt to
suggest you are saving as much as 50%. But in realty their private
label treadmill is sold for the same price as the manufacturer’s
models. Another popular treadmill sold online promotes discounts
at 15%-40% off.
With all this slight of hand with prices how do you determine the
real value?
First, you decide how you are going to use the treadmill, and
determine what features would satisfy your fitness goals. For
example, if you plan to use the treadmill for walking and want the
machine to last for more than 90 days, you want certain minimal
features. If you plan to use it for running, than you need upgraded
features. Here are some of the features you want to compare:
Motor size
Deck size
Roller size
Electronics
Console
Programs
In addition, you want to compare the warranties. The warranty says
a lot about the overall quality of the machine and the components.
You also want to research the reputation of the manufacturer. You
want to buy from a company that is synonymous with quality. You
also want to do business with a company that stands behind their
treadmills.
When buying a treadmill do not get caught up in marketing hype of
discount prices. Instead look for the best value in your price range.

Smooth Treadmills
A Smooth treadmill offers a great workout for the serious runner
and the novice alike. With a sturdy frame and a range of great
exercising features, a Smooth treadmill has everything you need to
reach your fitness goals, whether these are getting you up to
marathon running speed, or just getting in shape for the summer.
The price tag of Smooth treadmills, in the mid to high range, can
make purchasing one of these running machines a little prohibitive,
but any Smooth treadmill review you can find will almost certainly
tell you that a Smooth treadmill is well worth the investment. With
a robust frame and fitness features that include pre-programmed
workouts, easy to use speed and incline adjusters, any Smooth
treadmill review will tell you that the Smooth brand of running
machines are suitable for both treadmill novice and expert alike.
Whilst a Smooth treadmill is not the cheapest treadmill available
and might cause a beginning runner to question the sense of
purchasing a Smooth machine, they are extremely good value for
money, especially the interactive features available with many of
the Smooth varieties of treadmill which are the ideal way to push a
novice forward with their fitness goals. With fitness programs that
can be personalized to a particular user, heart rate monitor and
even a tool to measure your BMI, a Smooth treadmill is ideally
equipped to help the new runner track their progress, something
that a qualified fitness trainer will tell you is crucial in keeping
motivation at optimal levels, ensuring that you reach your goals in
a truly effective way.
While Smooth treadmills might not be one of the most inexpensive
treadmills around, they offer much more for the price than other
makes and models. Consistently rated at one of the best models in
its price range, a Smooth treadmill also comes with a ten-year
warranty. And the reviews will confirm that the customer service
available at Smooth is second to none.
So if you are looking for the full fitness package, a Smooth
treadmill can’t be beaten. You might pay a little more than you

would for a more basic machine, but the combination of great
features in the truly durable frame of a Smooth treadmill will help
you exceed your fitness goals.
A Smooth treadmill is a purchase for a lifetime, because that’s how
long it will last. Or at least as long as you are happy to use it until
you want to buy one with more features. A Smooth treadmill is
excellent value.
ProForm Treadmills
ProForm is the largest seller of treadmills in the world. They focus
on budget models and sell through mass merchants, large sporting
good chains and the home shopping networks. ProForm is owned
by Icon Fitness. In addition to selling ProForm fitness equipment,
they also sell Weslo, Nordic Track, Reebok, Image and HealthRider.
ProForm along with the other Icon brands dominate the sub $1,000
market.
We know that ProForm offers an attractive price, with treadmills
selling as low as $400. The question is, are they a good value?
From strictly a price perspective they are an excellent value.
Why are ProForm treadmills so popular?
When you compare the price and features, ProForm treadmills
appear to be an exceptional deal. Most have numerous bells and
whistle, including built-in televisions. And from an outward
appearance they appear to be a substantial machine, but it is what
is under the hood that is most important.
The majority of ProForm treadmills come with a 90 day parts and
labor warranty. Now what does that say about their products? I find
treadmill warranties very revealing. It would seem apparent that
treadmill companies using inexpensive components would offer
short-term warranties. In contrast, those manufacturers that build
durable treadmills can afford to offer extended warranties, like 2-5
years on the parts and 1 year labor. Although it should be
mentioned that ProForm is now offering a 12-15 year motor
warranty on select models.
Recently I was at a fitness specialty store in Wilmington, NC, and
-41-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-41-
-42-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-42-
was talking to the person in charge of servicing. Although this
particular retailer did not sell ProForm, they often service them. He
mentioned they were considering discontinuing service on the
ProForm treadmills. The problem was once they fixed one problem
often the owners would soon came back with the same problem or
another service issue.
It should be noted that there are literally tens of thousands of
ProForm treadmills sold every year, and the majority of owners are
satisfied with their purchase (See www.epinions.com for customer
reviews). Furthermore, Consumer Reports rated one of the ProForm
treadmills as “Very Good” for quality. But it is a numbers game, and
whereby other brands may have a minute percentage of mechanical
problems, you can expect that percentage to be higher for budget
treadmills. When you sell treadmills at budget prices you have to
use budget components, and on average those treadmills are more
likely to breakdown.
I recommend ProForm treadmills for primarily walking and
moderate use. Their high-end models can probably handle light
jogging. But if you plan to use the treadmill on a frequent basis, or
have multiple users, you may want to consider other brands in the
$1,500+ price range.
For those that have a limited budget ProForm may be the best bet.
ProForm Treadmills Accessories
Well-known for the technological innovation they employ in
constructing their fitness equipment, Proform treadmills carry their
innovative streak into the range of treadmill accessories they offer
to the treadmill consumer. Regardless of whether you are a
seasoned professional runner, or just looking to get in shape,
sometimes running alone is not enough to take you where you want
to go, but with their range of treadmill accessories, Proform
treadmills offer the consumer a more complete exercising package
to help you achieve all your fitness goals.
It is easy to become overwhelmed at the range of treadmill
accessories available today, but Proform treadmills offer a range
-42-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-42-
-43-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-43-
that is both comprehensive and straightforward. From the simple
maintenance accessory kit that includes such tools as treadmill belt
cleaner and lubricator that can help prolong the life of your Proform
treadmill, while helping to maintain its optimum performance, to
the treadmill accessories that will help you make the most of your
fitness endeavors, Proform offer a mix of accessories that really hits
the mark.
One of the most popular of the treadmill accessories that Proform
treadmills offer is their interactive fitness program, called iFit.
Specially developed by fitness experts, this technology brings a
Proform personal trainer right into your home, helping you make
the most of your Proform treadmill fitness sessions. With scientific
research to support the fact that many people who exercise with
this kind of guidance perform better than those who exercise alone,
it is easy to see why this is one of Proform’s most popular treadmill
accessories.
Cardio exercise should only be one aspect of your fitness regimen,
and Proform treadmills show that they have thought of this too, by
offering strength training equipment as part of their treadmill
accessories. The Proform exercise ball is the ideal way to work on
those all-important core muscles, the stomach and back muscles
that support your entire body. A strong core is essential to
achieving total body fitness and the Proform exercise ball,
combined with the Proform sculpting bands which help you build
the muscle in your arms and legs, is the ideal way to round out the
workout afforded by Proform treadmills.
Proform treadmills are famed for their innovation and it’s easy to
see that the company have translated this into the treadmill
accessories they offer to consumers. If you are looking for a
complete workout then enhance your cardio fitness program
afforded by your Proform treadmill with some important
accessories.
Landice Treadmills
Landice has an excellent reputation for building quality treadmills.
These are not your mass merchant specials with 90 day parts and
-43-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-43-
-44-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-44-
labor warranties. In fact, Landice offers a lifetime warranty on their
treadmills, which says something about their durability.
Landice has been selling treadmills for a number of years. Their
focus is to build sturdy treadmills with the best components
available. The result is machines that are built to last and are
capable of taking a beating. Of course, that comes at a price. Their
least expensive treadmill starts at $3,100, and their commercial
grade models top off at $5,000. Let’s just say, you don’t want these
treadmills to end up as clothes racks.
So what do you get for your money?
As mentioned, Landice utilizes the best components available for
treadmills. For example, they equip their machines with 3.0 hp
continuous duty Baldor motors. These motors are monsters in
comparison to most treadmill motors. There are a number of
companies that claim their treadmills have 3.0 hp motors, but if
you were to compare them to the Baldor motor there would be a
noticeable difference in the size. This powerful motor assures that
the treadmill will run at even the highest speeds without straining.
Landice uses a 4-ply treadbelt, the majority of competitors use 2ply. Although costing significantly more, this 4-ply belt provides
twice the strength of a 2-ply belt. It also adds additional cushioning
to reduce impact.
Another quality component that Landice installs are 2.5” rollers.
These are the same rollers used in the best commercial treadmills.
The larger the roller diameter the less tension required on the
treadbelt, since the roller has more surface area to grab the belt.
Decreased tension means decreased friction and longer life on
belts, motor, bearings and the rollers themselves.
As you can see these treadmills are built to institutional standards,
in fact Landice has over 20,000 treadmills placed in health clubs
around the world. And unlike every other fitness manufacturer that
builds treadmills, Landice only produces treadmills. They are not
also building, elliptical trainers, strength machines and stationary
bicycles. Their focus is solely treadmills.

Who should buy a Landice treadmill?
Individuals who are going to abuse a treadmill. We’re talking
serious runners, including competitors and marathon runners.
These treadmills are ideal for people who push their equipment to
the limit.
Landice Receives “Best Buy” Recommendations
In the past Landice has received a top pick from one of the most
popular consumer rating magazine. Landice has also received a
number of “Best Buy” ratings. Treadmill Doctor states, "An
incredibly solid treadmill. Some cheaper treadmills may be better
for some people but if you're serious, this is a serious machine."
Men’s Fitness Magazine had these comments on the Landice L7
Executive Trainer: “If you want the best - and can afford it - the L7
is the bad boy.”
If you want a treadmill that can withstand strenuous use, then you
should consider Landice. They are built to last.
Trotter Treadmills
Let’s just say the first thing first about a Trotter treadmill – there is
little doubt that on your treadmill comparison travels, you will find a
cheaper exercise machine. With the pervasiveness of money in
today’s society, or rather the ubiquity of our wanting to hold on to
as much of it as we can, it is easy to see why other machines might
beat a Trotter treadmill in the consumer’s treadmill comparison. But
while some people might make the selection from their treadmill
comparison of the machine that comes with the lowest price tag,
discerning consumers hold on to their money and invest it in
something that might be a little more expensive, but is definitely
worth it. These canny consumers know that with a Trotter treadmill,
you get more than what you pay for.
There are a number of schools of thought that inform any treadmill
comparison: one runs along the lines that fitness equipment is
expensive, so let’s limit our costs by purchasing the cheapest
treadmill we can find. This line of thought, of course, is extremely
-45-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-45-
-46-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-46-
limiting and would knock a Trotter treadmill right out the window,
along with the many great features a Trotter treadmill has to offer.
The canny consumer, however, appreciates that while a treadmill
comparison can throw up some cheap treadmill alternatives, you
really do get what you pay for, and if you’re going to invest, you
may as well invest in the best. Many consumer reviews would argue
that the best is a Trotter treadmill.
A Trotter treadmill is large and extremely well built, with
professional runners rating the Trotter line as one of the most
durable on the market. Its sturdy build means that it will require a
dedicated spot in your home for its use, but a Trotter treadmill is
worth every inch. With a professional grade running board that
provides you with the most ergonomic exercising stance and high
quality cushioning, with a Trotter treadmill you will hardly notice
your exercise time fly by. This comfort is combined in a Trotter
treadmill with a great range of programs and user interface,
allowing you customize your workout to your own specific needs.
Any treadmill comparison will tell you that a Trotter treadmill should
be high on your list, and it is usually the price tag alone that
frightens people off. But the treadmill comparison of the canny
consumer will illustrate how price shouldn’t necessarily be at the
top of your treadmill list: invest in the best, invest in a Trotter
treadmill.
Horizon Treadmills
The Horizon treadmill company are probably best known for
producing a good treadmill package that is easily affordable by
even those would-be exercisers on a tight budget. With a range of
features that you might expect to see on higher priced fitness
equipment, a Horizon treadmill offers you a great treadmill workout
without breaking the bank to achieve it.
The Horizon treadmill is available in a range of models, with price
tags that range from well under a thousand dollars right up to the
two thousand dollar mark. Consumers who have enjoyed the
budget end of the Horizon treadmill range might think about
investing in a higher spec model, to try to match their treadmill
-46-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-46-
-47-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-47-
workout to their ever improving fitness levels, but reviewers would
advise against such a switch – the Horizon treadmill is a favorite in
the budget category, but treadmill ratings suggest that if you are
looking to spend a little more to achieve the treadmill workout you
want then another choice might be more appropriate. Though the
features offered on the lower price Horizon treadmill type are
second to none for a budget treadmill, the experts say that the
improvements you might expect to find on a more expensive
Horizon treadmill simply aren’t up to scratch.
So what do you get with a Horizon treadmill? A range of features,
including an easy fold system, shock absorption technology and a
fan to help keep you cool while you avail of one of the preprogrammed or customizable treadmill workouts the Horizon line
have to offer. But as reviewers are quick to point out, it is not the
features included in the Horizon treadmill that are under scrutiny –
these are almost uniformly agreed to offer a great treadmill
workout to anyone who purchases a Horizon. Rather it is the
possibility of what might be sacrificed in the Horizon treadmill to
offer these features at a budget price, namely the quality of the
Horizon parts and the long-term durability of the treadmill as a
whole.
The upside to this criticism of the reliability of the treadmill workout
offered by a Horizon machine is that consumer reviews rate the
customer service offered by the Horizon team as exemplary.
Speedy and courteous, it seems that dealing with any flaw in the
Horizon treadmill is not as fraction as painful as consumers
frequently report their dealings with other treadmill manufacturers.
So if you are looking for a budget treadmill workout with all the
trimmings, then a Horizon treadmill might just be the way for you
to go. But if you want to upgrade down the line, choose another
treadmill brand.
Quinton Treadmills
A Quinton treadmill is one of those rare items in the densely
populated consumer world – a product that is actually so good that
there is little to no hype surrounding it. For those of us wearied by
-47-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-47-
-48-
HEALTH FITNESS RESOURCE
-48-
the in-your-face ‘Buy Treadmill!’ advertising that attacks us almost
every time we switch on our TVs, a Quinton treadmill could be just
the breath of fresh air we are looking for.
The pervasive drive towards fitness that dominates our culture
today can lead us toward making impulse purchases just so that we
can have what we want when we want it – right now! Looking good
is an important part of our lives, and a treadmill can help us
achieve that goal. But if you are affected by today’s invasive
advertising and dreaming something along the lines of ‘Must buy
treadmill! Must buy treadmill!’ then you probably won’t have taken
the time to read about the many benefits a Quinton treadmill can
offer, and that would be a real shame. A Quinton treadmill really is
the quiet treadmill champion, and one you can’t afford not to buy.
If you have succumbed to those ‘Buy Treadmill’ voices, then you
can’t afford not to do your research – your fitness depends on you
making the right treadmill choice. And while a Quinton treadmill
won’t be splashed all over the TV or Internet like so many other
brands, a Quinton treadmill is well worth a second look. Consumer
reports rate the Quinton treadmill as one of the best available. If
you really care about your fitness, then you need to add a Quinton
treadmill to your ‘Buy Treadmill’ list!
Though a Quinton treadmill resides in the higher treadmill price
bracket, consumer reports consistently cite these treadmills as
being well worth the investment. Found in many gyms, a Quinton
treadmill has earned its place in a professional fitness environment,
with its ease of use for even the beginning runner or walker, its
reliability and the great workout it affords. Professional runners
often cite a Quinton treadmill as an important tool in achieving their
success, but that shouldn’t deter the novice exerciser – what this
really means to you is that as you progress through your personal
fitness goals, your Quinton treadmill will be there to cheer you on!

- The Horizon Fitness T101-3 Treadmill is designed for
optimal cardiovascular training so you get a powerful 2.25HP
motor that is still quiet even when at full speed.
- You can go up to 10 miles per hour, inclination rises to 10%,
and the belt size is a wide 20x55 giving you all the options
needed for a variety of programs. These features are
important since they give you more customizable options to
achieve different goals.
- Speaking of programs, you are allotted nine different
programs that work according to distance, time, or calories
and each workout is customized according to manual settings,
intervals, or weight loss.
- You won’t get bored because the Horizon Fitness T101-3
Treadmill comes with MP3 support and its own built-in
surround sound audio system. Now you can bust out those
tunes and get a real workout that doesn’t feel like hours upon
hours.
- There is also the heart rate monitor on the handlebars that not
only keep track of your progress but also alert you of your
condition.
- Of course one of the best things about the Horizon Fitness
T101-3 Treadmill is how easy it is to store. When you’re
done with your workout session it can easily be folded and
kept against the wall.
Cons:
 It may have a lot of programs and customizable features but it
does lack in any online support, something that is greatly
supported by many of its competitors. It would have been nice

to see the option to upload and monitor your progress or to
download additional programs and workouts.
This is an incredible treadmill that accomplishes everything it was
supposed to – to safely and comfortably allow you to get the best
cardiovascular workout. It does more than just run a running belt.
The Horizon Fitness T101-3 Treadmill can be adjusted for a
specific calorie count, heart rate, distance, inclination, and more.
If you had to choose just one treadmill that was under the $1,000
price tag then look no further because the Horizon Fitness T1013 Treadmill is the definitive solution.

Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill
Not every treadmill in the market has to be bulky and large to be
effective and the Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill is a clear
testament to this. It doesn’t look like it belongs in a space ship
from the 1990’s and instead looks sleek, modern, and elegant. It
instantly folds so you can store it vertically or even slide it under
your bed. However, just because of its new design you shouldn’t
dismiss its capabilities. It does wonders in bringing optimal cardio
workout into your Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill.
Pros:
 The first thing you’ll praise is its ultra-compact design. It folds
with ease and when it is propped up for use it features a
17x45 running area. There is no assembly required either.
 Of course you need power and stability to burn those calories
and the Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill addresses this
with its 1.5 CHP motor. This motor can take you all the way up
to 6MPH.
 It also comes with two standard programs for you to use:
manual as well as weight loss. This guarantees that the belt
moves according to your specific goals.
 Treadmills are about full cardiovascular training and not just
running. To guarantee you are getting the workout you desire
and need, the LCD displays your time, speed, calories burned,
and distance.
 No one wants to get bored while working out and the Horizon
Evolve SG Compact Treadmill is built with an audio-in system
for your CD players and MP3 players. This is accompanied with
the built-in speakers.
 It also comes with a heart rate monitor (thumb reader) that
allows you to keep track of your progress and to ensure you
are always performing at the top of your level.
Cons:
- Some users have complained that the heart rate monitor is
not always functional. For some it might work while others
might require repair.
- You can only read the results of your run while the belt is in
motion so if you stop to read your statistics the display won’t

show them, forcing you to at least walk while studying your
workout.
This is a very simple, very basic treadmill that doesn’t aspire to
compete with the $2,000 models. It doesn’t have to – it has all the
right features and design that works for everyone. It is affordable,
compact, and still very effective for both the hardcore and the
casual fitness enthusiast.

instantly folds up. The EZ drop bar makes it a lot easier to
bring it back down, eliminating the need for heavy locks and
bolts.
- My Zone – My Zone is an included program that monitors your
heart rate and uses this as the basis for a running session. The
treadmill will automatically adjust speed and inclination as
according to the parameters you set in relation to your heart
rate.
Cons of the LifeSpan TR 1200i Folding Treadmill:
 Lacking Quick Buttons – while the console is great, some have
remarked about it missing quick buttons to instantly adjust the
speed or volume without having to scale the system manually.
 Cheap Motor Cover – the motor is one of the most important
parts of the treadmill. This could have been better protected.
