The Agilent 54600 scopes

High-definition displays uncover details that you can’t even see on other scopes

NEW

With nearly twice the horizontal resolution of any digital scope on the market, the patented new display technology in the Agilent 54600

Series oscilloscopes opens a new window into circuit behaviour. You’ll see subtle details you couldn’t see before, from narrow transients to distorted edges to intermittent defects, with greater fidelity than you’ve probably ever seen in any digital scope.

By combining this high-definition display with MegaZoom Deep Memory and a signal processing system that’s up to 25 times faster than regular digital scopes, the Agilent 54600

Series of scopes add a unique statistical dimension to your measurements. Each point on the trace is displayed with 32 levels of intensity; the brighter the point, the more samples it represents. This makes it easy to find areas of interest to explore in detail with the pan and zoom features. All of this information is available on a single capture at full speed, with magnifications up to 10,000:1.

The advantage of MegaZoom Deep

Memory

Agilent MegaZoom offers a unique approach to deep memory. It provides signal captures up to 2 million samples on each channel, with higher sustained sample rates and responsive displays. You can find details buried in complex signals, discover anomalies leading up to trigger events and view high- and low-speed signals simultaneously. And unlike traditional deep-memory scopes, MegaZoom is not a special, complicated mode, nor does it slow down the scope. Working in conjunction with the high-definition displays, MegaZoom runs automatically all the time; you'll get the power of deep memory without the drawbacks.

The bright, white dot on the upper display is a distortion in 1 of the 1,500 pulses captured in this single shot measurement. Simply dial in for a closer look using MegaZoom pan and zoom, and you’ll see the details that would have escaped a regular scope, such as the distortion on this square wave.

Finding the details buried in complex signals

Agilent 54600

Series Scopes

It’s a classic troubleshooting problem: you know there’s a problem buried somewhere deep inside a long, complex signal, but your scope can’t find it. If you don’t know what the problem looks like, you probably can’t set a trigger to catch it. And if you slow down the timebase to catch a longer portion of the signal, chances are the glitch will fall in between samples.

That’s just the sort of problem Agilent

MegaZoom and the 54600 high-definition displays were designed to solve. You can capture up to 2 million samples on every channel at full bandwidth, check for intensity indications on the 32-level greyscale display, then zoom in on the highlighted data to find the problem.

Agilent’s 500 MHz scopes

The high-speed answer for low-speed budgets

With single-shot bandwidths as high as

500 MHz, you’ll see those important details on high-speed dynamic signals.

• The industry’s lowest-cost

500 MHz scope

• Single-shot bandwidths as high as 500 MHz and sample rates up to 2 GSa/s

• 1 ns peak detect at all sweep speeds

When you need bandwidth for demanding applications but your budget will not accommodate a high-end research scope, the

500 MHz scopes in the Agilent 54610 Series may be just what you need.

The Agilent 54610B is the lowest-priced

500 MHz scope on the market, but it doesn’t compromise performance or measurement quality. You’ll still get ±0.01% horizontal accuracy and a maximum display update rate of 1.5 million points per second.

The Agilent 54615B boosts the sampling rate to 1 GSa/s while preserving the intuitive analogue feel and instantaneous response of the other 54600 scopes. With horizontal accuracy of ±0.005% and horizontal resolution of 20 ps, you’ll uncover the details that hide from slower scopes.

Speaking of sample rate, many scopes offer good sample rate performance at fast sweep speeds but run into trouble as you slow the sweep down. No matter how slowly you sweep the 54615B, it can still detect glitches as narrow as 1 ns when utilising peak detect.

Catching elusive glitches

Agilent 54600 Scopes (500 MHz)

Signal transients can often be difficult to detect, especially on slower sweep speeds, but peak detect can help capture those elusive glitches.

The shortage of high-speed memory in most digital scopes means they have to reduce sample rates on all but the fastest sweeps. The slower the sampling, the greater the chance that a glitch will hit in between samples. In other words, those impressive sampling specifications don’t mean much in many measurement scenarios.

Digital peak detect in the 500 MHz 54600 scopes solves this problem by recording maximum and minimum levels between samples, catching glitches as narrow as 1 ns—at all sweep speeds. You can sweep as slowly as 5 s/div, knowing that the scope will detect troublesome glitches.
