Chapter 1

Basic Operation Procedure

Basic Menu Features

The machine automatically detects original(s) and decides on the Copy Size and Colour mode to use.

If the detection fails, manually set the settings.

Place original(s).

Select the required settings if necessary.

Face down. Align with top left corner. Close ADF.

Press the Copy key if the machine is set to other function mode.

z The original size is detected and a corresponding Copy Size is automatically selected.

z If the orientation of original does not match the orientation of copy paper, the image of original is rotated automatically and copied.

z When copying A4 size originals, selecting

A4 for the Copy Size accelerates the continuous copying speed. If the orientation is not the same for both settings, the copied image is automatically rotated by 90 degrees. z

Enter the desired number of copies.

(Up to 999) z After finishing copying, press the Reset key to return to the initial screen of the current active mode.

z When inputting a number (4 to 8 digits) with the optional Fax Communication Board installed, the machine automatically interprets it as a telephone number, switches to the Fax mode, and displays the

Number Pad screen.

z The number of digits interpreted as a fax number can be set from 4 to 8 digits in the

Function Parameter “118 Fax Function

Detect” (Fax/Email Settings > Fax

Parameters). For more details, refer to Fax/

Email Settings in the Operating Instructions

(For Function Parameters) of provided CD-

ROM.

z When copying from the Platen Glass, place the next original and follow the instructions described on the touch panel display.

You can copy in the Colour mode selected by the machine, or select the Colour mode manually.

z The manually selected Colour mode settings will return to the default settings under the following conditions.

- If the Reset key is pressed.

- If Auto Reset Time interval has lapsed (default = 1 min).

- If the power is turned OFF.

2 Colour Mode

Colour original can be copied in 2 colours, which can be achieved by using black and another specified colour.

The specified colour can be selected from the basic colours (red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan) and the registered colours.

Ex: When copying a full colour original in cyan and black.

z

When the 2 Colour mode is selected, the Original Type setting selection is not available.

1 Colour Mode

Colour and monochrome originals can be copied in one specified colour.

The colour can be selected from the basic colours (red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan) and the registered colours.

Ex: Copying a full colour original in cyan.

Ex: Copying a monochrome original in cyan.

z When the 1 Colour mode is selected, the Original Type setting selection is not available.

Each time it is selected, the density level is decreased, brightening the printed colour.

Each time it is selected, the density level is increased, darkening the printed colour.

Registering Quality Preset

Save your favourite quality adjustment setting by registering up to 5 Quality Presets.

The following quality adjustment settings can be registered:

• Auto, Black, Full Colour, 2 Colour, or 1 Colour

• Original Type

• Density

More Settings

• Background Removal

• Bleed-Through Prevention

• Tint

• Contrast

• Sharpness

• Saturation

• Colour Balance z

z The registered image quality setting is kept until it is overwritten by a new setting.

Using Quality Preset

You can recall the registered quality adjustment settings by the following procedures.

Quality Adjusting

Image quality items can be easily set by selecting from 4 image quality types (Vivid, Bright, Warmer, and Cooler).

Additionally, in the Custom Setting selection, the following 7 image quality adjustments can be set.

• Background Removal

• Bleed-Through Prevention

• Tint

• Contrast

• Sharpness

• Saturation

• Colour Balance z The default setting of Bleed-Through Prevention, Tint, Contrast, Sharpness, and Saturation can be changed.

Refer to Copier Settings (Key Operator Mode) in the Operating Instructions (For Function Parameters) of provided CD-ROM.

z Under the following situations, the Colour mode settings return to the standard settings.

- If the Reset key is pressed.

- If Auto Reset Time interval has lapsed (default = 1 min).

- If the power is turned OFF.

- If “Default” is selected in “More Settings”.

z If you select the Original Type after selecting the custom settings, the custom settings return to the standard settings.

Background Removal

The original can be copied with the background colour removed. This function is useful when copying newspapers or an original with background colour.

z The settings of Background Removal and Bleed-Through Prevention become invalid if “Photo” is selected in

Original Type”.

Bleed-Through Prevention

Thin sheets of original can be copied without bleeding through.

z The setting of Bleed-Through Prevention becomes invalid if “Photo” is selected in “Original Type”.

z When setting the Tint adjustment to More Blue or More Red, the copies may come out with bleed through contamination.

If you set the Background Removal to “Off”, the Bleed-Through Prevention will not be adjustable.

The original can be copied with reddish or bluish colour accentuated.

8 of Quality Adjusting (see page 23).

Contrast

The original can be copied with the adjusted contrast.

Each time it is selected, the contrast level decreases by 1 grade lower. (The distinction between brightness and darkness is reduced.)

8 of Quality Adjusting (see page 23).

Sharpness

The original can be copied by softening or sharpening the outline of the image.

Each time it is selected, the sharpness level decreases by

1 grade lower. (The image outline is softened.)

Each time it is selected, the sharpness level increases by 1 grade higher. (The image outline is sharpened.) z

8 of Quality Adjusting (see page 23).

Saturation

The original can be copied with the adjusted saturation.

Each time it is selected, the saturation level decreases by 1 grade lower, reducing the colour saturation.

Each time it is selected, the saturation level increases by 1 grade higher, increasing the colour saturation.

z The screen will return to step 1.

8 of Quality Adjusting (see page 23).

Colour Balance

The original can be copied with the adjusted density level (Darker, Medium, and Lighter) of Yellow,

Magenta, Cyan, and Black.

z The density of each colour can be fine tuned for each of the three density levels.

This function is useful for the fine adjustment of colour photos. Unlike image editing software, this function cannot greatly change the colour tone since the adjustable range at each density level is very narrow.

Select remaining colours, and then adjust the Colour Balance as shown in step 2.

Proof Copying

When making more than one copy, the first copy can be printed as a proof copy.

After confirming its quality, the remaining copies can be printed.

Select the copy features if necessary.

One copy as a proof copy

The remaining copies are made after confirmation.

Storing a Job in Memory

A copy job can be registered as a preset job. It is useful to register the frequently used settings as
