Behaviour of the T91 remote in conjunction with the GSM-Remote
The heater can be started at any time by using either of the control devices
(T91, vehicle control menu, GSM-Remote)
If the heater had been started using GSM-Remote the T91 (or any 1533 timer) can be used to switch the heater off properly
However, the heater can be disabled as well using the vehicle control menu but the GSM-Remote is not able to detect this and is blocked for the
duration configured in 5.3 and 5.6 respectively (typically 30 mins). In order
to avoid this blocking time it is required to disable the heater via the GSM-
Remote or via the T91 or 1533 control devices

Operation using SMS-Messages
5.1. General
The GSM-Remote can be configured, controlled and send status-messages on request using SMS-messages (consider arising expenses!)
The corresponding commands are described in the following sections.
Please pay attention to applying the correct format
The commands are not case sensitive
Every command involves a reply from the GSM-Remote (unless this feature is not disabled). The expected replies are given in this document as well
Invalid commands will be forwarded unchanged to the master telephone number so it is mandatory to setup the master number in the very first step
5.2. Setting the Master Telephone Number
All messages received by the GSM-Remote that do not contain valid commands are forwarded to the master number
In order to receive messages from your provider (indicating a low balance or an approaching invalidation of the SIM-card) and in order to indicate invalid commands the master number must be stated!

Changing the default heating duration is
described in 5.6
Essentially 4 digits for the time, no colon , 24 hours format, the heater status is sent a second-time when reaching the time
Range is 1..255
This command also cancels the scheduled time
Additionally, the following replies are being generated by the GSM-Remote in case the heater activation is not successful:
Reply Description
WBUS ERROR No valid communication on W-Bus so far
Possible Cause
This might be due to a bad connection of the GSM-Remote to the W-Bus or a defective heater (e.g. not powered)
In some cases it is useful to check whether a W-Bus controlled heater is present at all
Heater locked due to error HEATER ERROR Heater does not accept command
NO HEATER
RESPONSE
No reply from heater
(after three tries)
HEATER NOT
RUNNING
Heater did accept command, however heater does not start running
Heater always stops after a certain defined time (e.g. after 20 mins) although a higher value was requested
Heater defective or bad W-Bus connection
Heater is in error-state which might be due to low fuel level
The default runtime configured in the vehicle menu is lower than the value requested by the remote. An adaption to a value higher the one configured by RUN=x is required

The heater can be controlled at any time using any of the available control
devices such as T91, 1533 timer, vehicle control menu (see paragraph 4 for
restrictions)
5.4. Telephone Number Restrictions
By default the telephone number restrictions are disabled and, therefore, every number is allowed to control the heater
Up to five numbers being allowed to control the heater can be configured:
Command
NUMBERCHECK=ON
or
NUMBERCHECK=OFF
Explanation
Enable/disable the telephone number restrictions

5.7. Notifications
By default GSM-Remote sends status messages upon the commands used to
control the heater (see section 5.3) containing the current heater state
Although the prepaid SIM-cards require to top up about 15€ annually it might be desired to disable the automatic status messages
Additionally, it can be configured whether status messages shall be sent or a call-back shall be performed when using the call-based control of GSM-
Remote. Alternatively, the notifications on this event can be completely disabled

6. Operation using Voice Calls
6.1. General:
In addition to the SMS-control the GSM-Remotes allows to enable the heater using voice calls
Based on the number of rings the GSM-Remote performs corresponding switching operations. These will be described below
The GSM-Remote does not answer calls, thus the account is not charged at any time
When calling the GSM-Remote and no rings can be observed it is located in a dead-zone. No switching-operation can be carried out
GSM-Remote for T91 in VAG cars with Webasto heaters – Page 10
6.2. Mandatory activation of the heater:
Call number of GSM-Remote and wait until the first ring
Hang up directly after the first ring
The vehicle control menu shows the heater-icon after a couple of seconds:
Depending on the notification configured in 5.7 the following action is
performed: o no call-back (default) o an SMS-notification: The heater status is reporting by the SMS message
Acknowledged altering of the heater state using the call-back functionality:
In the previous case the mandatory activation was achieved by calling the
GSM-Remote and hanging up after the first ring
Waiting until the second (or even more) rings the state of the heater is
altered regardless what the current state is
Depending on the notification configured in section 5.7 the following action
is performed: o a Call-Back (Standard): Applying a call-back to the originating caller ID the GSM-Remote acknowledges that the state after the call is “enabled”. In case no call-back is performed the new state is
“disabled”. Please do not answer the call as this causes undesired costs o an SMS-notification: The heater status is reporting by the SMS message o nothing: All notifications are disabled
The heater can be disabled at any time using any of the available control
devices such as T91, 1533 timer, vehicle control menu (see paragraph 4 for
restrictions)

7. Prepaid Phone Cards and Control Commands
While the usage of prepaid cards has the advantage of not generating monthly costs it is to be considered that most providers require to top up at least once a year, otherwise the card might be invalidated. It is recommended to keep this in mind and regularly (e.g. once a year) top up a small amount of money.
In order to check the current balance or to top up using a voucher code most providers allow the usage of control commands. The GSM remote allows to apply all typical commands using the remote-specific command CMD=xyz
Please consider that command codes are provider specific. The table below gives two examples that must not necessarily meet those supported by your provider:
Command
CMD=xyz
Description
Execute command xyz
Response
Response generated by provider will be directly forwarded
CMD=*100# Request balance „Balance: 24.19
EUR.“
CMD=*100*CODE# Top up balance using voucher code
„New Balance:
24.19 EUR.“

9. Accordance of Deployment
The GSM-Remote is only to be used for switching auxiliary heaters in VAG cars with originally equipped Webasto heaters and the original T91 Telestart remote in accordance with this manual using the provided adaptor cable. Any deviance leads to cancellation of warranty and a denial of liability.
The GSM-Remote must not be used in environments with flammable gases or flammable liquids such as in transportation sectors dealing with dangerous good. Additionally, it is paid attention that the mounting location is selected to be dry and not adjacent to liquids.
