Download the Zebra Drivers 1 Download the Zebra Drivers Before installing the Zebra printer with USB connector, download the drivers from www.zebra.com. Note: You must first create an account on Zebra.com before you can download a driver. Ensure you download the driver specifically for the TLP 2844Z model printer. Also check to see that the download contains the latest version available. 2 Purchase a USB Conversion Cable To connect the printer to a USB port, you have two options: • a USB to IEEE 1284 cable, or • USB Cable A to B (the USB printer port is format B) 1 Install the Zebra Drivers 3 Install the Zebra Drivers Next, install the printer drivers. This is a multi-step procedure that may require you to jump to a different set of instructions during the installation process. Note: The printer does not have to be connected to install the driver. This work can be done while waiting for your printer shipment. To install the printer drivers 1. Double-click on the ZUDv54616.exe executable. The Open File Security Warning dialog box displays. 2. Click Run. The Self Extractor dialog box appears. 2 Install the Zebra Drivers 3. Click OK. The Self-Extractor dialog box appears. 4. Click Browse to select a location or accept the default location. Click Unzip. A confirmation message appears. 5. Click OK. The installation wizard appears. 3 Install the Zebra Drivers 6. Select a language perference and click OK. 7. Click Next. A Warning dialog box appears. 4 Install the Zebra Drivers 8. Click Continue Anyway. The Printer Select step appears. 9. Select Zebra ZPL from the Manufacturers list and Zebra TPL2844-Z from the Printers list. Click Next. The Printer Port step appears. 5 Install the Zebra Drivers 10. Select USB001 and click Next. The Label Setup dialog box appears. 11. Select 3.00” x 2.00” - (7.62cm x 5.08cm) from the Label Size drop-down list. 12. Select Portrait from the Orientation drop-down list. 13. Select Inches from the Unit of Measurement drop-down list. 14. Click Next. The Top Adjustment dialog box appears. 6 Install the Zebra Drivers 15. Leave the default of O in the text field and click Next. The Dispense Mode dialog box appears. 16. Accept the default choice of Tear Off and click Next. The Media Type dialog box appears. 7 Install the Zebra Drivers 17. Accept the default selection of Thermal Transfer and click Next. The Printer Setting dialog box appears. 18. Select Use printer setting and click Next. Note: You do not have to Print a Test Page at this time. See “Configuring the Printer” on page 9 for additional printer configurations. 19. Click Finish. 8 Configuring the Printer 4 Configuring the Printer The final step is configuring the printer. At this time you may want to install your Check-in printer so that you can print a test label after the printer has been configured. To configure the printer 1. Open the Windows Control Panel (Start >> Control Panel). 2. Double-click on Printers & Faxes. The list of available printers appears. 3. Right-click on the Zebra TLP2844-Z entry and select Properties. The Printer Properties dialog box appears. Note: If you do not see an entry for Zebra TLP2844-Z, please see “Adding a Printer” on page 12 for step-by-step instructions to add the Zebra printer to your printers list. 4. Select the Sharing tab. 9 Configuring the Printer 5. Optionally, select Share this printer and type a name in the Share name field. Additonally, you can select the List in directory check box. Tip! Sharing the Zebra printer allows other Fellowship One users to access this printer for reporting purposes. Many of the mailing label reports are available in Zebra label format (both 3” x 2” and 3” x 1” versions). Printing to the Zebra printer can save money when printing address labels. Labels are generally less than $0.01 per label and ink is free! 10 Configuring the Printer 6. Click the Ports tab. The USB check box is selected by default. 7. Leave USB selected and scroll up to LPT1. Select the LPT1 Printer Port check box. Note: If the LPT1 Printer Port has the words Active Touch in the Printer field, see “Deleting the Active Touch Printer” on page 17 for directions to remove it. 8. Click OK. 11 Adding a Printer 5 Adding a Printer If you do not see your Printer icon in your Printers and Faxes folder, you will need to manually add it. To add your printer 1. Click Printers and Faxes on your Windows XP Start menu. The Printers window opens. 2. Click Add a Printer in the Printer Tasks. The Add a Printer wizard opens. 3. Click Next. The Local or Network printer dialog appears. 4. Select the Local printer attached to this computer check box. 12 Adding a Printer 5. Click Next. The Select a Printer Port dialog box appears. 6. Select Use the following port and choose USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB). 7. Click Next. The Install Printer Software dialog box appears. 8. Select Zebra ZPL from the Manufacturer list and Zebra TLP2844-Z Version 5.4.6.16 (the latest driver) from the Printers list. 13 Adding a Printer 9. Click Next. The Use Existing Driver dialog box appears. 10. Select Keep existing driver (recommended). 11. Click Next. The Name Your Printer dialog box appears. 12. Accept the defualt name and select Yes in the Do you want to use this printer as the default printer? field. 14 Adding a Printer 13. Click Next. The Printer Sharing dialog box appears. 14. Select whether or not you want to share the computer and follow the sharing instructions. 15. Click Next. The Print Test Page dialog box appears. 16. Select Yes. 15 Adding a Printer 17. Click Next. The Completion dialog box appears. 18. Review your selections and correct if necessary. Click Finish. 16 Deleting the Active Touch Printer 6 Deleting the Active Touch Printer Occassionally, the Zebra driver will install a printer that is titled Active Touch Printer in your Printers and Faxes folder. This printer defaults to LPT1 and must be removed. To delete the Active Touch Printer 1. Select Printers and Faxes from Windows XP Start menu. The Printers and Faxes folder appears. 2. Select the Active Touch Printer. Right-click and select Delete from the shortcut menu. 3. Confirm printer deletion. After deleting this printer, you may configure the Zebra printer.
