The Stratus ftServer W Series 2300 system makes
industry-leading 99.999% uptime highly affordable
to purchase, quick to deploy, simple to manage, and
cost-effective to own. The most economical, most
compact fault-tolerant server we’ve ever introduced,
the W Series 2300 model brings you a compelling new
choice for decentralized, mission-critical applications.
Priced below comparable high-availability clusters,
these servers combine economic value with lights-out
management capabilities, making them ideal for volume
deployment at remote locations — or as fault-tolerant
replacements for ordinary, standalone servers.
Powered by the Intel® Xeon™ processor, the W Series
2300 system features the Microsoft® Windows Server™
2003 operating system. This system delivers Stratus
Continuous Processing® technology at breakthrough
pricing thanks to a streamlined design that takes advantage
of industry-standard components — including the latest
Serial ATA storage interface technology. An integrated
printed circuit board houses redundant, lockstep
processors as well as redundant I/O elements.
The 2300 model is available in a pedestal version or a 4U
rack-mount model that installs in a standard rack. These
new entry-level systems enable affordable rollouts at
locations with limited IT support: remote distribution hubs,
branch banks, retail stores, and other sites requiring rapid,
effortless deployment and near zero downtime.
Financial
Advantage
Continuous Processing® features
Like other members of the industry-standard ftServer
W Series family, the 2300 model comes complete with
Continuous Processing features that eliminate
operational complexity and high costs inherent in high
availability approaches such as clusters or standby
systems. Your enterprise gains superior uptime protection without having to modify Windows applications —
and without the need for failover scripting, repeated test
procedures, or extra effort to make your applications
cluster-aware.
Lockstep technology
Replicated, fault-tolerant hardware components
process the same instructions at the same time. In
the event of a component malfunction, the partner
component is an active spare that continues normal
operation without system downtime or data loss.
Failsafe software
Our failsafe software works in concert with lockstep
technology to prevent software errors from escalating
into outages. Other software issues are captured,
analyzed, and reported to Stratus. This allows
support personnel to take a proactive approach to
correcting software problems before they recur.
Even in-memory data is constantly protected and
maintained. Stratus’ hardened device drivers add
yet another level of reliability to the Windows
environment on ftServer systems.
ActiveService™ architecture
ftServer W Series systems constantly monitor their
own operation. Remote support capabilities — made
possible by Stratus’ next generation out-of-band
management technology, the Virtual Technician
Module, and our global ActiveService Network —
enable our service engineers to diagnose, troubleshoot,
and resolve problems online as if they were on-site.
If needed, the W Series 2300 system automatically
orders its own customer or field-replaceable parts.
