Mini-PABX Start up guide
We would like to thank you for purchasing the Mini-PABX Kit; it is a very
powerful solution for small business and home office scenarios.
This guide will explain the basic programming to get your system up and
running to suit your business requirements.
BEFORE BEGINNING it is best that you ensure all incoming lines are working.
The best method is to connect one of the telephones directly to the incoming
line. If no dial tone is received then the line connectivity is not in place.
Please test all incoming lines to ensure they are working before continuing.
The telephones supplied do not need batteries, all the functionality and
required power to operate is supplied over the cable from the Mini-PABX;
however if you want to light up the display then you do need to use batteries.
Basic Set-up:
LINES: Connect your incoming phone-lines to the main incoming lines on the
Mini-PABX, these are clearly marked “Line1, Line2 and Line3”.
Connect telephone Lines: The cables have
standard RJ12 connections and terminate on an
RJ12 socket.
Should the lines terminate on an older 610 socket,
then you need a 605 adaptor (shown on the right) to
convert the RJ12 end to the older-style 610 wall socket.
RJ12 to 605 adapters are not supplied, but are available if required.

Connect the other end of these line-cables to the Mini-PABX as shown here:
HANDSETS: Connect a telephone to Port-11; this is the “First Extension
Phone” or extension 11 and is used for programming the 308 units.
Connect your other extension phones to the remaining connections as shown
in the following illustration above.
POWER: Connect the power cable to the Mini-PABX (Marked “POW” for
Power) on the right side of the image above and then to the power-outlet.
After checking that all the above is correct, switch on the power to the MiniPABX.
Test: Pick-up extension 11 (connected to port 11) and dial 12, extension 2
(connected to port-12) will ring, answer the call and ensure all is working
correctly.
Music on Hold: the round chrome socket on the left side is for external
Music-on-Hold (MOH).
The system will play internal music on hold if no external device is plugged
into the MOH jack. To provide external music on hold, simply plug in the
external music source. Form programming mode (*#0000) dial 14# to hear the
MOH.
You will need to ensure that any external music device is connected using an
appropriate line-isolation-unit.

SYSTEM PROGRAMMING
System programming is performed from extension 11. Programming mode is
accessed by lifting the receiver and dialling * # 0000. Leave programming
mode by hanging up the handset.
ACTIVATE LINES
By default the lines need to be activated. Do not activate lines that are not in
use (if so, users may connect to an inactive port when attempting to connect
to an external line).
The code for activating a line is:
0 6 0 {line number} #
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Access program mode on ext 11 by dialling * # 0000
activate line 1 by dialling 0601#
activate line 2 by dialling 0602#
activate line 3 by dialling 0603#
hang up handset to leave program mode.
At this point lines can be accessed by picking up any handset and dialling 9.
Note that individual lines can be accessed by dialling * 1 (line number). For
example, access line 1 by dialling * 1 1 or line 2 by dialling * 1 2, etc. This is a
good way to test that all lines are operational.
Lines can also be deactivated by entering program mode and dialling 0 6 1
{line number} #.
POWER FAIL
Should there be a power failure the lines are automatically connected to
certain extensions.
Line 1 will automatically connect to extension 11, line 2 to extension 12 and
line 3 to extension 13.
OUTGOING LINE OPTIONS
There are 2 line access configurations that can be implemented.
•
Indirect Dial Out (default): upon lifting the handset an internal dial
tone is heard. An external line is accessed by dialling 9 or other
extensions are called by dialling the extension number.

•
Direct Dial Out: upon lifting the handset the next available outside line
is accessed automatically and the caller is presented with external dial
tone. Should the caller wish to call another extension, the caller needs
to dial # to receive an internal dial tone and then dial the appropriate
extension number.
To set the system to Direct Dial Out mode:
1. Enter programming mode (* # 0000)
2. Dial 20 # (for indirect mode dial 21 #)
INCOMING RING ASSIGNMENT
By default, all lines ring on all extensions. The system can be programmed to
ring certain extensions based on which line is ringing.
The code for activating ring assignment is:
3 0 {line number} {port number (1 to 8)} {1 for no ring, 0 for ring} #
Example:
1. Access program mode on ext 11 by dialling * # 0000
2. Program line 1 to ring extension 11 (port 1) by dialling 30110#
3. Program line 2 to not ring extension 14 (port 4) by dialling 30141#
4. Program line 3 to ring extension 12 (port 2) by dialling 30120# and so
on…
5. Hang up handset to leave program mode.
FLASH TIME SETTING
When the flash button on the handset is pressed the telephone breaks the line
connection for a very short time. This is detected by the phone system as a
request to place the call on hold. If calls are not being held when the flash
button is pressed then it may be necessary to set the correct flash time on the
system.
The flash time determines the length that the line is opened…the Australian
default is 100 milliseconds.
To set the flash time correctly:
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. After the tone dial 002# to set the flash time to 100mS
3. Hang up handset to leave program mode.

SET OPERATOR EXTENSION
The operator is the main extension dialled when any user dial 9 or, in the case
of using the Auto-Attendant (see below), when a caller does not select an
option from the menu.
The default operator extension is extension 12 (port 2).
The code for determining the operator's extension is:
1 5 {port number (1 to 8)} #
Example:
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. Program extension 18 as operator by dialling 15 8 #
AUTO ATTENDANT
The 308M comes with an Auto Attendant which can be programmed to
answer incoming calls, play a message such as "Thank you for calling
Candour Communications, please dial 11 for Sales or 12 for Support…."
The Auto Attendant can be set up such that the AA answers all lines or
selected lines. As an example, the fax line may be connected to the system
so it can be used for outgoing calls, however any incoming calls need to ring
the fax machine only and not be answered by an Auto Attendant.
To program the Auto Attendant message:
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. Dial 12#
3. After the tone record your message (max recording time is 12 seconds)
and request the caller dials a particular extension number or 0 for the
operator.
4. A second tone will indicate the end of recording (Alternatively, hang up
to record shorter message)
5. From program mode dialling 13# will allow you to listen to the message.
To Activate Auto Attendant on all lines (message must already be
recorded):
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. Dial 10 # (disable Auto-Attendant on all lines with 11 #)
To Activate Auto Attendant on certain lines (message must already be
recorded):
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. Dial 10 {line number} # (disable Auto-Attendant on all lines with 11
{line number} # )

Note: by default the Auto Attendant will disconnect a caller that has not input
any digits to indicate where the call is to be placed to.
To program the Auto Attendant to put the call through to the operator after no
digits are received:
1. Access program mode (if not already in this mode)
2. Dial 161 #
