Ford Injector Pump Replacement. This procedure can be used to program an injector pump to the immobiliser system (PATS) on a Ford vehicle. An easy way to check if you must carry out this procedure after changing an injector pump is to check the ignition keys for a PATS chip. These chips are usually red but may also be different shades of blue for some models. If a chip is present the injector pump must be programmed to the PATS, if no chip present the pump does not need to be programmed. Injector Pump Replacement is located in Functional Tests under Power Train Control. Injector Pump Replacement can take up to 30 minutes, it is important the vehicle battery is in good condition or a booster/battery charger is attached. It is also necessary that you read and understand this manual before you attempt Injector Pump Replacement. Snap On scan tool will auto detect the PATS fitted to the vehicle. There are three types, • PATS ISO (A) • PATS ISO (B) • PATS SCP PATS ISO (A) Before PATS ISO (A) Injector Pump Replacement is carried out the user must have the red master key and two slave keys (black with red PATS chip). The user should also understand the manual procedure required to recode the PATS once the keys are cleared. This procedure will erase the keys stored in the PATS. The scan tool will go through a timed security access; this will take between 12 and 20 minutes and when complete will display immobilizer codes erased successfully. To complete the Injector Pump Replacement the keys must be reprogrammed to the PATS. This is done using the red master key to set the PATS into Programming Mode. The following instructions MUST be followed carefully. Failure to do so may result in engine immobilized. 1. Insert red master key into ignition and turn to position 2. When PATS LED illuminates turn ignition off and remove key. 2. Check PATS LED goes off and then illuminates again for 2 seconds. This indicates the system is now in programming mode. 3. Insert first slave key (black with red chip) into ignition and turn to position 2. The LED will flash once to indicate code stored. 4. Remove the key. 5. Insert second slave key (black with red chip) and turn to position 2. The LED will again flash once to indicate code stored. 6. Remove the key. 7. Wait for more than 10 seconds to allow the system exit programming mode. The procedure is now complete and the engine should now start, bleeding of the fuel system will probably be required. PATS ISO (B) Before PATS ISO (B) Injector Pump Replacement is carried out the user must have at least two keys. These keys can consist of remote central locking key with no PATS chip visible or a black key with red PATS chip. The procedure will erase the keys stored in the PATS; it will clear the RIM and reprogram the keys to the PATS. The scan tool will go through a timed security access; this will take between 12 and 15 minutes and when complete will display immobilizer codes erased successfully. Clearing the RIM may take up to 18 minutes. When this is complete two keys must be reprogrammed, it is necessary the instructions on the scan tool are followed accurately, if not security access may be lost and you will then be required to repeat the procedure from start. The switching of ignition keys during the procedure must be carried out within 10 seconds, as described in the scanner instructions. The instructions are as follows: The next steps must be carried out within 10 seconds (once ignition switched off) or security access will be lost! 1. Switch ignition off and remove key. 2. Insert second key. 3. Switch ignition to position 2. Once the second key is inserted into ignition and turned to position 2 within 10 seconds of the first key being turned off then the pump should be programmed successfully. Switch ignition off and exit out of PCM Main Menu before you try start vehicle. If the vehicle had more than two keys programmed before the injector pump was replaced the additional keys can now be added following the instructions on the scan tool. The instructions are as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Additional keys can now be stored in immobilizer using the following procedure. Insert first working key into ignition and turn to position 2. (Maintain ignition in position 2 for 1 second). Switch ignition off and remove key. Within 5 seconds insert second working key and turn to position 2. (Maintain ignition in position 2 for 1 second). Switch ignition off and remove key. PATS system is now in programming mode. Within 10 seconds of turning ignition off insert the unprogrammed key into ignition and turn to position 2. (Maintain ignition in position 2 for less than 5 seconds). Switch ignition off and remove key. Wait for more than 10 seconds then check new key starts engine. If programming procedure was not successful leave the ignition in position 2 for at least 30 seconds. Repeat this programming procedure from step 1. PATS SCP PATS SCP can be supported by two security accesses, timed security access and coded security access. Snap On scan tools support the timed security access, however for coded security access the PATS must be reprogrammed at a Ford Service Dealer. PATS SCP timed security access procedure may take 18 to 24 minutes. PATS SCP requires a minimum of two keys stored to the system. This procedure does not require you to have all the ignition keys during the procedure. PATS SCP timed security access will reprogram the PATS using the key codes stored in the PATS before the procedure was started. Only one of the keys is necessary to cycle the ignition switch. When the procedure is complete the scan tool will display injector pump programmed successfully. You must also follow the instructions to switch ignition off, remove key and exit out of PCM menu before you start the vehicle. NOTE: Timed access only supported, Coded Access is NOT supported.
