Hardware Compatibility Chart
The following chart is provided for your reference and details hardware tested
and found compatible with QuickBooks Point of Sale.
Connection Ports
Users may have questions about which and how many peripherals their
computer can support. The compatibility chart indicates the port, or connection
type, required for each item.
Important notes about connection ports:
• Cash drawers are connected to receipt printers, not the computer.
• PS/2 (keyboard) devices share the port with the keyboard, i.e. the
computer does not need more than one PS/2 port. A handheld scanner,
credit card reader, and keyboard can all share the same PS/2 port.
QuickBooks Point of Sale Hardware Compatibility Chart
Items in bold are currently sold by Intuit
Use as a guideline only. This chart provides an overview of devices tested with Point of
Sale and which versions of Point of Sale tested. Additional configuration of some of the
devices may be needed in order to work correctly with Point of Sale. Users should check
with specific manufacturer’s regarding additional compatibility and operating system
requirements.
Only devices sold by Intuit are guaranteed to work together and work with Point of Sale.

Important Hardware Notes
Operating Systems
It is important to verify with customers that the PC systems they are running are
compatible with the published system requirements for Point of Sale.
x32 vs. x64 operating systems
Both Windows XP and Windows Vista are available as both x32 and x64-bit
operating systems. Most point of sale hardware will install and operate on x64-bit
operating systems; customers should contact the hardware manufacturers for the
latest drivers that are compatible for devices that are not in Intuit bundle and
which x64 drivers are not included on CD.
Of the equipment that Intuit sells, following devices will install and operate on
Windows x64 operating systems with special conditions:
o Zebra LP2824/2844 Tag Printer: new x32/x64 driver is available,
but not included on QBPOS MR CD. Requires download from
manufacture or Intuit tech support web site. Supported from v8 R2
and v7 R4.
o Ingenico i3070 PIN Pad: new x64 driver is available for download
(not included in QBPOS MR CD).
o Logic Control pole display USB models: new x64 driver is available
for download (not included in QBPOS MR CD).
Note: please do not confuse operating system with 64-bit PCs. Many PCs
currently sold in the consumer channels are 64-bit machines but are running 32bit operating systems.
Windows Vista
Intuit Inc.
Confidential
page 5
Windows Vista operating system is available in Basic, Home Premium, Business
and Ultimate. The Point of Sale hardware sold by Intuit has been tested fully on
Windows Vista Business and checked on the other flavors.
Not every device listed on the hardware compatibility chart is compatible with
Windows Vista operating system. We recommend customers refer to
manufacturer’s operating specifications to determine whether a specific hardware
device is compatible with Windows Vista or requires any configurations to
Windows Vista in order to install the device. In our testing the following devices
failed to install or operate on Windows Vista (any flavor):
o Epson TM88III receipt printer
o Epson TM88II receipt printer
o Epson TMU-200 receipt printer
o Dell T200 receipt printer
o Cognitve Del Sol tag printers
Device-specific Notes
Receipt Printers
• Epson TM 88II
o For those using the Epson ADT driver, installing the Epson Status
API driver module in addition will allow the cash drawer to be
opened without feeding paper to the printer.
• Epson TM88III
o Recommended to use Epson ATM_301gE.exe driver installer, and
user should select EPSON TM-T88III Receipt available in the
Version 6 Hardware Setup Wizard
• Epson TMU-200 (U200PD)
o Recommended to use Epson’s ATM_301gE.exe driver installer,
and user should select EPSON TM- U210 Receipt.
• Star TSP 700
o User should browse QBPOS CD for drivers in Drivers\StarTSP700)
Driver name is "Star TSP700 Raster Printer
o Defaults to partial paper cut, but can be changed to full cut in
Windows printer preferences.
Cash Drawers
• A cash drawer requires a receipt printer through which it connects to the
computer.
• Not all cash drawers work with all receipt printers. A cash drawer listed as
"compatible" means it is compatible with QBPOS, not necessarily with all
listed printers. User should check cash drawer manufacturer's specifications
for printer compatibility.
Barcode Scanners
Intuit Inc.
Confidential
page 6
•
•
Should be configured to add carriage return “<CR>” to the end of all scans.
Symbol Cobra LS 1902 PS/2
o The scanner must be configured using setup barcodes included
with Symbol documentation.
o The scanner is a “keyboard wedge”, type “IBM AT”.
Credit Card Swipes
• Credit card swipes not sold by Intuit, including those included with a Cherry
Keyboard or Touch screen, may require additional configuration to work
correctly with Point of Sale and PIN Pads.
PIN Pads
• PIN pads used with QuickBooks POS must be “injected” with the First Data
encryption key and programmed with functionality specific to QBPOS. Only
units obtained from Intuit or Dell meet both these requirements. This
encryption key and programming is not available for download.
• Ingenico 6580
o This PIN-pad has an integrated credit card reader. A separate
credit card reader is not required.
o This PIN-pad has an integrated signature capture.
o This unit meets the latest PCI standards for PIN Pads.
• Ingenico i3070
o This PIN-pad has an integrated credit card reader. A separate
credit card reader is not required.
o This unit meets the latest PCI standards for PIN Pads.
o This unit will be sold beginning January 2008.
• Ingenico eN-Crypt 2100
o This PIN-pad has an integrated credit card reader. A separate
credit card reader is not required.
o This unit will be sold through January 2008 and then phased out. It
will no longer be available from the manufacturer.
• Ingenico 3010 PIN Entry Device
o This is just the PIN-pad itself with no integrated credit card reader.
A separate credit card reader is required to process debit
transactions and recommended to process credit card and gift card
transactions.
o With the launch of POS 7.0, this unit will no longer be available as it
is being phased out by the manufacturer in December 2007.
Pole Displays
• Serial pole displays may conflict with other serial devices such as printers or
modems even if the other devices aren’t turned on or even connected. It
may be necessary to reassign other devices to different serial ports.
Tag Printers
• Calibration
Intuit Inc.
Confidential
page 7
•
•
•
•
o To avoid wasted tags, users should recalibrate before printing large
batches or when changing tag/label types. Tag stock can be rolled
back after calibrating.
Printing large numbers of tags:
o The print buffer may overflow causing an “error found while printing
the document” message dialog that prompts the user to retry or
cancel the print job. The user should be instructed to leave it alone.
Eventually the dialog will disappear automatically when the buffer
catches up and all tags will print correctly. Printing fewer tags at a
time will eliminate this issue.
o The Zebra printer may overheat and stop working in order to cool
down. If this happens, leave the printer alone and it will resume
printing when the print head cools down.
Cleaning
o The Zebra comes with a cleaning pen included in the printer box.
The Zebra print head should be cleaned as needed or after every 5
rolls of tags.
ƒ If the customer does not have a cleaning pen, extra pens
can be ordered from Zebra directly, or 90% isopropyl alcohol
on a cotton swab can be used.
Black line labels. new for v7+ and patches for v5, v6
o The Zebra black line jewelry paper stock delivers better
performance in terms of alignment.
Cognitive Del Sol DT2
o Recommend to use intellidriversetup_nt.exe found on QBPOS CD
in \Drivers\Cognitive\Cognitive Del Sol Driver to install printer.
o Tag calibration settings can change dramatically when switching
between different tag stock sizes. Customers should calibrate the
printer after changing tag stock, or if the tag printout does not
appear correctly centered
o If the printer is not recalibrating correctly after changing tag stock
size it may be necessary to reset the printer and recalibrate again.
There is no power switch so to do this the printer power supply
must be unplugged for a few seconds. After plugging it back in
recalibrate the tag stock again.
Physical Inventory Scanners (PDTs)
• Physical Inventory Scanners sold by Intuit have a specially configured
interface for ease of use with Point of Sale. While the same models sold by
other vendors will work with Point of Sale, the interface will not match what
is shown and described in Point of Sale and may be more difficult to use.
