(I) About Configuration:
1. Q. How do I configure the Broadband Router?
A. Access the Broadband Router configuration through any Internet browser.
Simply enter the IP address (192.168.168.230), and "password" as the password,
and you are in. You also can use CLI (Command Line Interface) over “nullmodem” or telnet session to issue commands to do.
2. Q. What do I need to configure to get the Broadband Router to work with my ISP?
A. You will only need to enter the Access Router Manager and select “Basic
Internet Access” to configure a connection profile for internet access on the
Broadband Router. However, there are a number of advanced features, which
you will probably want to become familiar with so it is a good idea to review the
help menus.
3. Q. How do I find out what Firmware version is on my Broadband Router?
A. To check firmware version, go to the "About System" from the Access Router
Manager (ARM). Or type "Show system" from the Command Line Interface.
4. Q. How do I get the MAC address for the Broadband Router?
A. You can browse ARM, and select "About System" to check MAC address. But this
is just the router's MAC address on LAN port. The EWAN port's MAC address of
the router equal LAN port's MAC address plus one.
You can also use CLI (Command Line Interface) command "show system" to check
LAN port's MAC address.
5. Q. I have changed the address of the router, how do I get to the Access Router
Manager (ARM) screen if I forgot this new address?
A. If your PC attach to router's LAN port, you can execute "ipconfig" in MS-DOS.
Check gateway's IP address, this is the new IP address of the router. Or you can
use CLI command "show dhcp" to check "Default gateway".
6. Q. PPPoE Timeout, what does it do?
A. PPPoE Timeout mechanism is used to save customer's money. This feature force
router to disconnect data call, if the idle time of this data call is over PPPoE
Timeout setting. If users always wish to keep call alive,users can set PPPoE
Timeout value to zero.

7. Q. If I install PPPoE, should I enable the PPPoE Timeout?
A. Yes, we suggest to enable this timer to save user's money.
( II ) About System Operation:
1. Q. What is the maximum number of users supported by the Broadband Router?
A. User can use switch or hub to attach to LAN port to extend the attached number
of PC. In this way, the Broadband Router supports up to 253 users, if the
Broadband Router is configures as a Class C private network.
2. Q.How do I connect additional PCs to my Cable modem using the Broadband
Router?
A. Simply plug the cable modem directly into the EWAN port of Broadband Router,
then plug the computer intended to share the Internet into the Broadband
Routers’ LAN ports. And you are connected.
3. Q. What is the proper way to turn off and on my cable/DSL modem and home n
etwork using the Broadband Router?
A. Please try and re-initialize your devices by performing the following power
sequence:
Turn off modem (unplugged if necessary)
Turn off Broadband Router (unplugged the power)
Turn off your computer
Turn on your modem, wait for all the light to stabilize.
Plug in the Broadband Router, wait about 30 secs for start up.
Finally turn your computer back on.
4. Q. How do I know if my computer is connected to the Broadband Router?
A. Please try the following procedure:
At the MSDOS prompt, type: 'PING 192.168.168.230'. If your Broadband Router
is properly configured, you will see replies from that address. Check to see if you
can access the Broadband Router setup page by typing 192.168.168.230 in the
'Address' line (for Internet Explorer) or 'Location' line (for Netscape).
5.Q. I already have a 10 or 100Mbps Ethernet card, is it compatible with the
Broadband Router?
A.Yes, the Broadband Router has a built-in 10/100Mbps Auto-sensing switch which
supports both 10 and 100Mbps.

6. Q. How do I upgrade the firmware for the Broadband Router?
A. There are two ways to upgrade the firmware.
(1) 1.1> Using browser to access (192.168.168.230) router's ARM (Access R
outer Manager).
1.2> Select "System Upgrade" from the menu
1.3> Input the exact file path and name, then press "Upgrade" button.
1.4> Please wait about 2 minutes to proceed download firmware.
1.5> If download success, please select "Reset System" to reset router.
1.6> If download fail, please repeat step 1.2> to 1.4> to download again.
(2) 2.1> Connect PC COM1 and router console port by "null modem" cable.
2.2> Execute HyperTerminal in the communications of Windows's
accessories.
2.3> Set Properties of HyperTerminal to "directly connect to COM1".
Set Port Setting (press Configure.. button) to,
Bits Per second: 19200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None
2.4> Press "Call" button in the HyperTerminal to make a connection
between router and PC.
2.5> Input password to enter router's console manager
2.6> Input "download firmware" to start download procedure
2.7> You will see warning messages on the screen. If you want to stop
download function, please input 'n' to leave download process. Input 'y'
and press "enter" to continue download.
2.8> There are three terminal speeds to download. Please input '1' for
57600bps, or '2' for 38400bps, or '3' for 19200. Suggest to choice '1' to
speed up download.
2.9> Press "Disconnect" button in the HyperTerminal, and change terminal
speed to 57600. Then press "Call" button to connect again, and press
"enter".
2.10> Please press 's' to start Z-modem file transfer
2.11> Press "Transfer" button and input the exact firmware file path and
name.
2.12> Press "Send" button to proceed download.
2.13> If download success, the system will restart in a few seconds.

2.14> If download fail, please reset router and repeat step 2.3> to step 2.12>.
Try to download again.
7. Q. What do I do after I have installed the Firmware for Broadband Router?
A. If you use CLI to download firmware, the system will reset automatically. If you
access ARM to download firmware, please reset system after download success.
Wait about 30 seconds, the system will be ready for work. Reset your computers
to reconnect to router.
8. Q. How do I know if I am using PPPoE?
A. Please check PPPoE LED's status. If LED is on, it means PPPoE connection is
existed. Otherwize, PPPoE connection doesn't exist.
9. Q. I have WinPoeT or EnterNet300 on my computer, do I need to disable them?
A. Yes, once you have configured the PPPoE correctly in Broadband Router.
10. Q. I cannot get to the Access Router Manager screen when I type 192.168.168.230,
what do I do?
A. (1) Please check LAN port's link LED light to make sure the connection is ok.
(2) Using CLI command "show dhcp" to check "Default gateway" is
“192.168.168.230” or not. If the Default gateway is different, please use correct IP
address to browse. If the Default gateway is the same, please reset PC, and try
again.
11. Q. I have changed the password but forgot what they are, what do I do?
A. The only way is to restore factory configuration to router, and the password will
also restore to default value. The method is to connect PC COM port and router
by "null modem" cable, and execute HyperTerminal utility. Reset router you will
see "loading firmware...." on terminal. When "Ready" message display on
terminal, please immediately press "Ctrl-C" to restore factory configuration. If
success, router will display "Clearing system configuration..." and restart system.
Otherwise, please try again.
12. Q. Can I change the factory default password?
A. Yes, there is two ways to change the password.
(1) Using CLI command "change password" to change the value.
(2) 2.1> Using browser to access ARM at first.

2.2> Select "Change Password" from menu, and then you can modify
password.
(III) About ISP Issue:
1.Q. How do I know if I have a Static or Dynamic address?
A. Please check with the ISP which provide your cable/DSL service.
2.Q. I have a static IP address, why can't I connect to my ISP through the Broadband
Router?
A. With a static IP address you will need to manually enter your IP settings in the
Router. Simply enter the Access Router Manager and select EWAN for Interface
setting in “Basic Internet Access” using your browser and enter your IP
information.
3.Q. If I have a domain name, is it possible to get the IP address associated with that
name?
A. Most of ISPs do not allow for the hosting of domain names other than the ISP's
domain, however contact your ISP for detail.
4.Q. Why can’t my Broadband router obtain the IP address assigned by my ISP?
A. Please try the followings:
1> Make sure that your cable or DSL modem is connected properly.
2> Maybe your ISP having down time.
3> Try resetting your cable or DSL modem by powering off and on.
4>If you are using dynamic IP addressing, make sure that your cable modem is
DHCP-capable or your DSL modem is PPPoE supported.
5> Some ISPs of Cable service require a MAC address to be registered with them.
5. Q. Having trouble getting a DHCP address from your ISP?
A. Some ISP use the MAC address of you NIC to enable service. If this is your
situation, you can do one of the following.
Use the original PC that was setup for your ISP and use the Clone MAC Feature
in the Broadband to clone the MAC address of the provisioned Ethernet Adapter.
Please refer to the manual for more details.
6.Q. I already registered my MAC address with my ISP and I am only allowed to
register only one MAC address. How can I use the Broadband Router with this
ISP?

A. You can use the MAC Clone Feature to do this. The setting method is as follows,
(1) Using CLI command to configure the Internet access profile
(2) Press "Ctrl-E" to switch CLI to Advanced mode.
(3) Add a connection profile for EWAN, for example: "add profile ee"
(4) Select the access type, we choose '1' for Internet access only.
(5) Select encapsulation type, we choose "Ethernet" as the medium type.
(6) Press 'y' to proceed MAC address setting.
(7) Input the correct MAC address
(8) Press 'y' to enable IP routing.
(9) Press 'y' to get IP address automatically.
(10) Enter the host name that your want.
Now you can use "profile ee" to connect Internet.
7. Q. I am not able to get my emails or my ISP web page , what can be done?
A. You can contact the ISP to get the full URL or you can do the following:
Connect one of the computers directly to the cable/DSL modem.
Open a command prompt and ping the ISP web server or mail server name given.
You should be able to get an IP address when it replies.
After you get the IP Address, enter the IP address on the mail server option or
the Internet browser, and then you can access these servers through Broadband
Router.
8. Q. Does the Broadband Router work with my current Cable Internet Service?
A. The Broadband Router should work with most Cable Internet Service Providers,
however, there are some ISPs that may require some special configuration
(i.e.: host name, domain name, etc¡ K).
9. Q. Does the Broadband Router work with my current DSL service?
A. The Broadband Router should work with most DSL Internet Service Providers,
however, there are some ISPs that may require some special configuration
(i.e.: PPPoE, domain name, etc¡ K).
10.Q.I have a DSL modem, why does my Broadband Router loose Internet
connection?
A. Certain DSL provider has a time out limit to disconnect you after a certain amount
of time spent on the Internet. To avoid this, you will need to set the "idle timeout

seconds" to an appropriate value, eg. 600 secs. If you set the value to 0 secs, it
means "never" time out.
You have 2 methods to set the "idle timeout".
1> From Access Router Manager (ARM)
1.1> Choose "Connection profiles" item.
1.2> Select or new a profile associate to the EWAN port.
1.3> Set the "Idle Timeout (0-3600 seconds)" at bottom of the page.
2> From Command Line Interface.
2.1> Enter the Advance Mode if necessary (type ctrl+E).
2.2> Type "add profile xxxx" beside the prompt (xxxx is your profile name)
2.3> Choose an EWAN interface "PPPoE".
2.4> Follow and enter the rest parameters.
2.5> Finally you will see "idle timeout seconds", and then type-in the value you
want.
(IV) About Browser Issue:
1. Q. I can connect to 192.168.168.230 using my web browser, but I cannot
connect to any other web addresses. Why?
A. There are many reasons can cause this problem.
Check your Internet connection. Maybe the connection between you and ISP is
down or the problem is on your ISP.
Check your web proxy setting. Maybe the proxy address is wrong or the proxy is
not active.
Check your packet filter setting. Maybe your setting is disallowed every packet to
send out.
2. Q. Why can't I access the Broadband Router by web browser?
A. Check your Broadband Router is running properly.
Check the Cable and LED lights (according to your Ethernet card ).
Check IP Address (eg. Ping 192.168.168.230).
Check the Proxy Setting of your web browser. (Refer to next question)
3.Q. If I want to access Internet through proxy server, how to set my web browser to
access the Broadband Router?
A. For Internet Explorer 4.0 or later version, you can follow the rest steps.
1> Choose "Internet Options" from the menu

2> Choose "Connections"
3> Choose "LAN Settings"
4> Check "Use a proxy sever" and "Bypass proxy server for local addresses"
items.
5> Type in your proxy server IP address and port number.
6> Click "Advanced" and add "192.168.168.230" to the "Exceptions".
For Netscape Navigator, you can follow the rest steps.
1> Choose "Edit" form the menu,
2> Choose "Preferences"
3> Choose "Advanced" at left category.
4> Choose "Proxies",
5> Choose "Manual proxy configuration" and click "View" button.
6> Type in your proxy server IP address and port number.
7> Add "192.168.168.230" to the "Exceptions".
(V) About Application:
1. Q. Can I share computer files and printers using the Broadband Router?
A. Yes. One of the benefits of the Broadband Router is that it also acts as a Network
Switch. By enabling file and printer sharing in Windows you will be able access
the files on one computer from the other computer.
2. Q. Will Internet users be able to see my files if I enable file and printer sharing?
A. No. The Broadband Router uses a Network Address Translation technology that
prevents Internet users from accessing computers connected to the Router.
3. Q. How can I allow an Internet user access to my computer?
A. You can use IP Address Translation setting in Access Router Manager or CLI
command to setup a static entry or default to the private IP address of your
computer.
Ex1: If you want to setup a FTP server on LAN, and the FTP server’s location is
on “192.168.168.254”. The CLI setting steps are as follows,
1.1> Input “add pat entry 21” on CLI
1.2> Input “192.168.168.254” for Private address setting
1.3> Input “21” for Private port number setting.
Ex2: If you want to setup a DMZ on “192.168.168.253”, the CLI setting steps
are as follows,
2.1> Input “add pat entry default” on CLI

2.2> Input “192.168.168.253” for Private IP address setting.
4. Q. How many computers can I open up with the DMZ?
A. You can only open ONE computer at a time.
5. Q. Does the Broadband Router support VPN?
A. Yes, currently the Broadband Router support VPN through
(1) PPTP pass through (server and client).
(2) L2TP pass through and end-point (server and client)
6. Q. Does the Broadband Router support IPX or AppleTalk?
A. Yes, the Broadband Router supports IPX or AppleTalk. If use AppleTalk, must
enable Bridge feature.
7. Q. Does the Broadband Router support PPPoE?
A. Yes, the Broadband Router will allow you to share the DSL connection
over PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet).
8. Q. Does the Broadband Router support NetBEUI?
A. Yes, bridge function will support NetBEUI to work on router.
(VI) About OS related questions:
1. Q. What kind of operating systems does the Broadband Router work with?
A. The Broadband Router will work with any operating system using TCP/IP across a
10/100BaseT or Ethernet network. Most operating systems like Microsoft Windows
use TCP/IP over Ethernet. Apple computers need to have 10/100BaseT network
interface cards and available TCP/IP function to work correctly with the Broadband
Router.
2. Q. How do I configure the TCP/IP settings on my Macintosh computer?
A. There are two ways to configure your TCP/IP settings on a Mac:
(1) 1.1> Make sure Mac has connected to router by straight cable.
1.2> Make sure router is running.
1.3> Power on Mac, Mac will automatically configure the TCP/IP settings.
(2) 2.1> Click the apple-button on the upper-left of screen.
2.2> Select "Control Panels" folder to open "TCP/IP" item.
2.3> Choose "Ethernet built-in" for "Connect via" setting.

2.4> Choose "Using DHCP Server" for "Configure" setting.
2.5> Close the dialogue box and save the change
2.6> Open the "TCP/IP" item again to check if the configuration is ok.
3. Q. Will the Broadband Router work with Linux?
A. Yes, you will be able to connect your Linux computers to the Broadband Router if
your Linux computers already have the Ethernet Adapter installed.
4. Q. Will the Broadband Router work with other networking products?
A. The Broadband Router will work with other networking products if these products
are using Ethernet Standards (802.3) or Ethernet 2.
(VII) About Firewall:
1. Q. What type of Firewall does the Broadband Router have?
A. (1). By using NAT (Network Address Translation), it is an inherent firewall, it
ensure security, since each outgoing or incoming request by the user must go
through a translation process that qualify or authenticate the request by matching
it to a previous request.
(2). By enable filtering feature it can filter specified IP/IPX.
(VIII) About Technical Explanation:
1. Q. What is different between static IP and dynamic IP addressing?
A. Static IP address is an IP address that "permanently" assigned to the
subscribers when they first sign up for their Internet Service. Dynamically allocated
IP address is assigned to you temporarily when
you connect to the Internet. The address has a pre-determined time limit.
2. Q. What is NAT (Network Address Translation)?
A. NAT (Network Address Translation) is the translation of an Internet Protocol
address (IP address) used within one network to a different IP address known
within another network. For example one network is designated ad the private
network and the other is the public (Internet). Simply put, NAT automatically
masks its private IP addresses to one public IP addresses and unmask the public IP
addresses on incoming packets back into the original private IP addresses.
(VIIII) About VPN:
1. Does the Broadband Router support VPN Pass-thru?
A. Yes, currently the router supports PPTP server/client side pass-thru and L2TP

server/client side pass-thru.
2. What kind of VPN tunnel does the router support (end to end)?
A. Currently, the router supports L2TP tunnel.
3. What are the maximum numbers of VPN tunnels and VPN sessions for the
router?
A. You can configure up to 8 tunnels at your systems. But, based upon the system
limitation, the Broadband Router can be running up to 5 tunnels simultaneously and
there are 8 sessions for each tunnel.
