EP1200A
Emergency Paging Microphone Panel
version 1/2013
www.ampereselectronics.com
Thank you for choosing another quality product from Amperes Electronics.
EP1200A is enhanced version with RS485 data output, enabling the unit to be used together with iPX5150 IP
client for LAN based PA System. Emergency paging and siren activation shall be available throughout the
entire network from main rack. Other local features shall remain as EP1200, but with improved audio quality.
Extra feature available from EP1200A is the availability of a dry contact, which is activated whenever the unit is
triggered. This allows connected to volume controller for overriding purpose.
We believe that this product shall be able to meet your demanding requirement with affordable pricing and
uncompromised features and quality. Though it is rather simple in the installation works, a brief read through
the manual is recommended and we are confident that you are getting a product of excellence.
Summary of Features
1. RS485 Data Output
The Data out are available in RJ45 or terminal connections. The RJ45 connection would enable direct play in
to IP Client for IP System setup, which includes the audio output and RS485 data in a single connector.
2. Built In Siren Tone Generator
The built in siren tone generator can be activated via the front panel test switch as well as remote triggering
switch. Its continuous 8 KHz tone shall be active for approximately 10 seconds when the switched is pressed
and shall cut off thereafter.
3. Visual FIRE Indicator
The front FIRE indicator shall lit when the siren is activated, or when the emergency paging microphone is
switched on. The bright flashing alert shall also lit when the remote siren port is triggered.
4. External Voice Message Activation
External voice recorder can be connected to EP1200A, instead to preamplifier mixer to allow prioritized
message broadcast over the BGM or normal paging sources. The activation of this playback shall require a
voltage free triggering which is available at the rear of the unit.
5. Priority Front Panel Microphone Paging
The front panel microphone is accorded the highest priority in paging, thus bypassing any available input
sources. This is important that emergency broadcast is not interfered when this announcement is made.
6. Aux Dry Contact for ALL CALL / E/M 24V Overriding Signal
When paging microphone or the siren is activated, it shall trigger an internal relay which provide a dry contact.
This can be used to switch on ALL CALL feature of the speaker zone selector as well as sending a 24V
emergency overriding signal to bypass volume controllers' attenuation. Proper configuration is required to
utilize this feature.

1. FIRE INDICATOR
Whenever siren or external activation device is triggered, the FIRE indicator shall flash alongside with siren
audio broadcast.
2. EMERGENCY PAGING
This EMERGENCY PAGING button shall active all microphone as well as sending emergency paging mode to
other related equipment.
3. SIREN SWITCH
Press the siren button shall activate the siren which is momentary. FIRE indicator shall lit and the MIC switch
relay (item 7) shall close. Release of the switch shall deactivate the siren, Pressing it continuously shall activate
the unit for about 10 seconds, after which the unit shall reset.
4. HANDHELD PAGING MICROPHONE
Pressing the microphone switch shall have priority over other inputs such as Siren, External Message input as
well as normal paging or BGM feeds. This shall also activate a dry contact, which can be used to activate ALL
CALL at speaker zone selector and 24V DC E/M overriding signal.

5. 24V INPUT
The unit operates on 24V DC. It is preferred that the unit to be supplied directly from the uninterrupted
power source. ie. Back up batteries. Alternatively, connect it to a regulated power supply unit which is
in turned has back up supply.
6. EXTERNAL MESSAGE TRIGGER PORT
External message player can be linked to it and can be broadcasted to the speakers when this port is
triggered. A voltage free contact is recommended to trigger the message playback.
7. REMOTE TRIGGER PORT FOR SIREN
External sensor device such as heat detector or fire alarm interface device can be connected to this
unit to activate the siren. The external device or switch must be voltage free to avoid damage to the
unit. Siren activation shall be approximately 10 seconds, afterwhich another contact is required to
broadcast the siren.
8. RELAY CONTACT
Triggering the front panel mic switch shall activate an internal relay. This ports provide a dry contact
which can be used to connect E/M overriding signal or to activate ALL CALL at speaker zone selector.
The recommended rating for the contact is 3A. In case higher rating is required, please use external
relay or contactor to accomodate the high current requirement.
9. RS485 PORT
External controls or interface devices shall be able to communicate with the unit. It shall be able to
communicate with software using RS485 to USB converter which shall be available in near future.
10. HANDHELD MIC LEVEL CONTROL
This is to adjust the front paging mic volume. It is recommended that the setting is made during testing
and commissioning works.
11. SIREN OUTPUT LEVEL CONTROL
Adjust the siren output to an optimum level during testing and commissiong works.
12. EXTERNAL MESSAGE AUDIO INPUT
The external message playback signal shall be balanced line level.
13. PRE-AMPLIFIER INPUT JACK
Output from pre-amplifier mixer (balanced line level ) is connected to the unit which is normally closed
when the unit is not activated. Triggering the panel shall bypass the signal to allow higher priority audio
to the PA system.
14. DATA AUDIO OUTPUT
Audio output from the decoder is balanced line output level. RJ45 connector consists of audio, data and
power with the following pin configuration:Pin 1 - Data A
Pin 2 - Data B
Pin 3 - Relay Trigger Signal
Pin 4 - NC
