Wine Storage Tips
Wine is alive and changes over time. That’s why it’s important to offer
a conducive environment for your fine vintages to mature. You can do
this by controlling the air, temperature, light, vibration, and humidity of
the wine.

Nothing spoils good wine faster than too much air as exposure
to it reduces the freshness and oxidise the wine, resulting in
premature aging and before long, you have vinegar instead of
wine. Fortunately, glass is impermeable to air and a good cork
will keep air exchange to a minimum if stored properly. It is

important to ensure that the cork remains moist so no additional
air is allowed to enter the bottle. The best way to do this is to
store your wine horizontally to keep the cork from drying up
and becoming brittle, thus admitting unwanted air. In addition,
storing wine at a humidity level of around 70% will keep the cork
properly moistened. Brandt wine cellars come equipped with

TEMPERATURE

Proper temperature is another major factor in ensuring your
wine stays drinkable before you open it. If a wine is stored in
conditions that are too cold, it causes the cork to shrink (thus
letting in air). If the conditions are too warm, the wine will age
faster than it should.
The optimum temperature for storing wine is between 10-12°C.
Brandt wine cellars provide a constant temperature within
6-18°C which is suitable for most wines. Almost as important as
the actual temperature is the rate of temperature change. A ten
degree change over a season is harmless, but frequent and rapid
changes can severely damage wine, even when stored within the
desired range; therefore Brandt wine cellars are equipped with
a safety thermostat to maintain the optimum temperature in the
wine cellar in the event the principal thermostat breaks down.

Recommendations for built in / built under

Vibration interferes with aging and stirs up the sediments in the
wine. Try to avoid moving bottles until they are ready to be served.

VIBRATION

Along with controlling temperature and humidity, light exposure
should be kept to a minimum. Though modern bottles have good
UV filters, some can still penetrate — leading to a condition called
“light struck”. This shows up as an unpleasant aroma. Brandt
wine cellars’ UV-protected doors allow full visibility of your wines
while protecting them from oxidation.

WINE AGING
In general, more expensive wines are designed to be aged
longer. Cheaper wines should be consumed within six months to
a year from when you buy it. Also, red wines generally age better
than white wines. You can find out more details from your wine
merchants or retailer.

Humidity Regulation
This electronic regulation system is indispensable for maintaining the
required humidity level. If your wine cellar is too humid, an evaporator and a
hydrator tray capture and then adjust the surplus condensation. Otherwise,
a sensor informs you of the water level in the hydrator tray; so you can refill
accordingly.
