The relevant parts to the voice alarm and audio industry are part 16, which are concerned with voice alarm control and indicating equipment (VACIE), part 24, refers to loudspeakers and part 4, refers to power supplies The EN 54 standard is a EU regulation and therefore mandatory in each EU member state without the necessity of being adopted as a national standard. It belongs to the Construction Product Directive (CPD, 89/106/EEC) and requires a certification by a notified body (which ensures a high product quality and reliability). The EN 54 will come into force April 2011 It is imperative that installers and consultants follow these new regulations in order to maintain the continuity of quality and safety when designing and installing voice alarm systems.
