Licensing
A host of enhancements introduced will make the licensing mechanism more simplified, faster and
better. It is more user friendly, gives a better user experience, troubleshoot connectivity issues with
possible solutions and complete the reactivation process just by providing the required Site/Account
Administrator's ID and password.
The following enhancements are introduced:


Reactivate without Unlock Key - Just provide the Account/Site Administrator's ID and password,
Tally.ERP 9 works in permanent mode immediately after reactivation
On detecting that the administrator is attached to more than a site or an account, the resolution
screen appears and helps in solving the site reactivation.
On attempting to activate the surrendered license or reactivate an un-activated serial number the
user is redirected to the reactivation form or to the activation form respectively.
Troubleshooting
Connectivity issues: The system automatically detects any problems on the network during
license Activation and Reactivation and provides you with the possible resolutions.
Client in Educational Mode: While attempting to establish a connection with the license server,
the system detects and lists the problems along with the possible solutions and actions.

Site Licensing
A new concept known as Site Licensing is introduced from Tally.ERP 9. A site refers to a single
instance of Tally.ERP 9 installed and activated. The site licensing is broadly classified into two
categories namely Single Site and Multi-Site
Single Site: A single instance of Tally.ERP 9 Silver or Tally.ERP 9 Gold license running
Multi Site: More than one instance of Tally.ERP 9 Silver or Tally.ERP 9 Gold license is running at
different locations under the single Account comprising of same or different serial numbers.

Activate License
The Licensing Operations Startup screen will appear only when Tally.ERP 9 is unable to detect a valid
license on your computer due to any one of the following reasons mentioned below:

Installed Tally.ERP 9 for the first time on your computer

Reinstalled Tally.ERP 9 after changing the hardware or formatting the Hard Disk.
To activate the license on computer follow the steps shown:

Start Tally.ERP 9
The Startup screen appears as shown:

Select Activate License
The Activate License form to activate a Single Site license appears. You can now proceed to activate
the single site license by providing the required details. A Single Site license could be a single instance
of Tally.ERP 9 Silver or Gold editions running on a computer.
To activate a Multi-Site account, press the required button available in the vertical button bar. The
Activate Site License form appears, provide the required details and proceed to activate the multi site
account.

Activate Single Site License
On successfully installing Tally.ERP 9 Silver or Gold Edition on your computer, you can now proceed
to activate a Single Site license for the first time. To activate the single site license it is necessary to
have the Administrative Rights or essentially login as an Administrator, in the activation form
provide the required License Serial Number and Activation Key and your valid E-Mail ID.
On selecting the Activate License option in the Startup screen the Activate License form appears as
shown:



Enter the Serial Number to activate the regular/perpetual license or the Promotional Key to
activate promotional rental license in the Serial Number/Promotional Key field
Serial Number: A nine digit unique number printed on the Tally.ERP 9 CD Box and the
Installation Guide which is provided on purchasing the perpetual or regular license of Tally.ERP
9 Silver or Gold editions.
Promotional Key: Is a unique alpha-numeric string provided to the each Tally Partner. It is
necessary to enter the promotional key only, to activate the promotional rental license.
Activate Promotional License
The serial number and activation key need to be provided in combination to activate a regular license
only.
Press F2 or click F2: Multi-Site on the vertical toolbar to activate a Multi-Site License

Enter the activation key printed on Installation Guide in the Activation Key field

Enter the required E-Mail ID in E-Mail ID of Administrator

For the purpose of confirmation re-enter the E-Mail ID once again in Repeat (E-Mail ID of
Administrator)
A unique account identification is created using the E-Mail Id provided and the license serial number is
linked to the account. The License Key, Password and Account related information are mailed to the
E-Mail Id provided in the activation form.

Press Enter to activate a Single Site License.
Tally.ERP 9 searches for the availability of Internet Connectivity on your computer. On successfully
finding the internet connection the system proceeds to activate the license online which is explained in
Online Activation section.
On detecting any one of the issues/errors listed below while searching for an Internet connection on your
computer, Tally.ERP 9 provides the user with the possible solution for the issue/error. The user needs to
resolve the issue/error and proceed to activate the license using the online mode. In case the issue or
error remain unresolved, the user needs to activate the license using the offline method.
Issues/Errors detected while searching for the Internet Connection

Internet connectivity is not established/not working/unavailable.

Outbound connectivity is blocked

Invalid entry in the hosts file

Connection Time Out

Connection Refused

Network is disabled

Could not find the IP Address

Sending / Receiving failed
The step by step procedure to activate the license using the Online and Offline method is discussed in
Online Activation and Offline Activation sections respectively.
Online Activation
Tally.ERP 9 displays the following message indicating the activation request has been processed.

The Tally_lck.lic file is generated and resides in the default Tally.ERP9 folder
In order to get the license, the locked license file has to be unlocked by providing the License Key
which is emailed to the Email ID provided. To unlock the license file you can proceed to the section
titled Procedure to Unlock License File
Offline Activation


Tally.ERP 9 displays a Connection Error screen containing the Error Code and System Error
Code along with the Reasons for Failure, Possible Solutions and What to do now? (Actions).
Select Continue in Offline mode


A message indicating the Offline Activation Request file tally_req.lic has been Created
Successfully! appears. The license request file titled tally_req.lic is generated and stored in the
default Tally.ERP9 folder.
Copy the tally_req.lic file onto a pen drive/CD and paste the file into the Tally.ERP9 folder on a
computer that is connected to the Internet and Tally.ERP 9 installed. Here Tally.ERP 9 could be
running in Licensed or Educational mode.
Note: In case Tally.ERP 9 is running in Licensed mode Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure >
Licensing > Send External Request

Start Tally.ERP 9 on this computer.

The Startup screen appears

Select Send External Request and press Enter

Tally.ERP 9 displays a message Your Offline License Request file 'tally_req.lic' has been
processed successfully.
Note: Along with request file the mail will contain the Unlock key to be used for unlocking the License
file.


Proceed to section titled Procedure to Unlock License File

Note: It is essential to access your mail and retrieve the unlock key.


The Unlock License screen appears.
Type the Unlock Key retrieved in unlock field or copy the unlock key from the email received
and press Ctrl+Alt+V to paste the unlock key.
Note: In case you have not received an E-Mail, press F2 (Self Support) and click on Get Unlock Key
for obtaining the Unlock key by providing the Serial number.
On successfully unlocking the license file, Tally.ERP 9 displays the following message
On starting Tally.ERP 9, the License Serial Number and Account ID are displayed under the Version
and License tab of the information panel respectively.
Activate Multi-Site Account
Multi-Site Account is possible only where there is an existing Site/ license. Various Sites belonging to
an entity are grouped together to form a Multi-Site Account. This account is identified using an
unique Account ID which is created using your valid E-Mail address. The location or the machine
where Tally.ERP 9 is activated is called Site and each site is given an unique identification by the user
which is termed as Site ID.
Prior to activating the site license, it is essential to login as a user with Administrative Rights or as an
Administrator. After installing Tally.ERP 9 Silver or Gold edition on your computer you can now
activate your a Multi-Site Account. In the activation form, you need to provide the License Serial
Number and Activation Key, Site ID, and Email ID of the Account (Account ID) and Site
Administrator.
To activate the Multi Site account, follow the steps shown:
In the Startup screen which appears on starting Tally,
1. Select Activate
The Activate License form appears.
2. Press F2 or click F2: Multi Site
The Activate Site License form appears as shown below:
3. Enter the License Serial Number in the Serial Number field.
4. Enter the Activation Key in the Activation Key field.
The license Serial Number and the Activation Key are printed on the Installation Guide for
Tally.ERP 9.
5. Enter the required Account ID in the Account ID field.
Use the existing Account ID to activate the new/ subsequent sites.
6. Enter a unique name for the site to be activated in the Site ID field. The Site ID enables you to
distinguish between locations where Tally.ERP 9 is activated.
7. Enter your valid E-Mail address in the E-Mail ID of the Site Administrator field.
The Unlock Key, Password and account related information are mailed to Site Administrator's E-Mail
ID.
8. Ensure that you re-enter the same Email ID in Repeat (E-Mail ID of the Site Administrator) for
the purpose of confirmation.
9. Press Enter to activate a Multi-Site Account.
10. Tally.ERP 9 searches for the availability of Internet Connectivity on your computer. On
successfully finding the internet connection the system proceeds to activate the license online.
11. On detecting any one of the issues/errors listed below while searching for an Internet connection
on your computer, Tally.ERP 9 provides the user with the possible solution for the issue/error.
The user needs to resolve the issue/error and proceed to activate the license using the online mode.
In case the issue or error remain unresolved, the user needs to activate the license using the
offline method.

Online Activation and Offline Activation sections respectively. Tally.ERP 9 searches for the
availability of Internet Connectivity on the users computer.
Online Activation
The screen to create a new Site appears as shown below:
Tally.ERP 9 displays the following message indicating the activation request has been processed.

The Tally_lck.lic file is generated and resides in the default Tally.ERP 9 folder
In order to get the license, the locked license file has to be unlocked by providing the License Key which
is emailed to the Site Administrator's Email ID provided. To unlock the license file you can proceed to
the section titled Common Procedure to Unlock License.
A mail is sent to the Account Administrator for confirmation of the additional Site. The procedure to
confirm is conveyed in the mail.
Offline Activation
Tally.ERP 9 displays a Communication Error, System Error Code along with the Reasons for
Failure, Possible Solutions and What to do now? (Actions).
1. Select Continue in Offline mode.
2. A message indicating the Offline Activation Request file tally_req.lic has been Created
Successfully! appears. The license request file titled tally_req.lic is generated and stored in the
default Tally.ERP9 folder.
3. Copy the tally_req.lic file onto a pen drive/CD and paste the file into the Tally.ERP9 folder on a
computer that is connected to the Internet and Tally.ERP 9 installed. Here Tally.ERP 9 could be
running in Licensed or Educational mode.
In case Tally.ERP 9 is running in Licensed mode Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure >
Licensing > Send External Request
4. Start Tally.ERP 9 on this computer.
The Startup screen appears as shown below:
5. Select Send External Request and press Enter.
6. Tally.ERP 9 displays a message Your Offline License Request file 'tally_req.lic' has been
processed successfully.
Note: Along with request file, email will contain the Unlock key to be used for unlocking the License
file.
7. Start Tally.ERP 9.

Common Procedure to Unlock License
It is essential to access your mail and retrieve the unlock key before proceeding to unlock the license
file.

In the Startup screen, select Unlock License
The Unlock License screen appears.

Type the Unlock Key retrieved in unlock field or copy the unlock key from the email received
and press Ctrl+Alt+V to paste the unlock key.
On successfully unlocking the license file, Tally.ERP 9 displays the following message
On starting Tally.ERP 9, the License Serial Number and Account ID are displayed under the Version
and License tab of the information panel respectively.
Note: In Tally.ERP 9, the License Activation request can be made from the server or the client machine
based on the requirement.
Reactivate License
The steps to reactivate a license are simplified to a single step process by enhancing the user experience.
The process of unlocking the license file has been removed and the options to reactivate a single site,
multi-site license and Work in Temporary License Mode have been completely eliminated.
While reactivating, Tally.ERP 9 prompts the user to enter the E-Mail ID of the Administrator and
password to reactivate a single site license or to enter the E-mail ID of the Site Administrator and
password to reactivate the respective multi site license.
You can use this option for subsequent activation of Tally.ERP 9 on the same computer or another
computer. To reactivate Tally.ERP 9 you should have activated the Tally.ERP 9 license earlier and then
surrendered the license for any one of the following reasons

Make changes to the Hardware of your computer

Reinstalled operating system on your computer

Use Tally.ERP 9 on another computer
To reactivate a license follow the steps shown
In the Startup screen

Select Reactivate License
The Reactivate License form appears

Enter the E-Mail ID of the Site/Account Administrator to reactivate the License.
In case the user is an Administrator more than a one site or an account, the Reactivate Multisite
Resolution screen appears displaying the list of sites for the respective Administrator. Select the
required surrendered site to reactivate it.
When the E-Mail ID of the Account Administrator for single site or the E-Mail ID of the respective site
administrator is provided the system will proceed to reactivate the license.

Enter the required password.
The completed Reactivate License form appears as shown
The Reactivate License Resolution screen appears as shown.

Select the required site from the List of Sites displayed
Note:On choosing to reactivate an Active site, Tally.ERP 9 prompts an error message displaying the
System Details, License Path where the license was last activated and suggests the user to surrender the
license using the Control Centre before reactivating the respective Site.

finding the internet connection the system proceeds to activate the license online which is explained in
Online Activation section.

Successfully.
Note: The offline request file is emailed to the account administrator of a single site or the respective
site administrator of a multi-site account.

Start Tally.ERP 9
Online Re-Activation
Tally.ERP 9 displays the Reactivation Successful message which appears as shown.
On successful reactivation the Gateway of Tally screen appears as shown
Login as Remote User
Users created under the Security Levels Tally.NET User or a Tally.NET Auditor can login and access
data from anywhere. On the remote computer it is necessary to install Tally.ERP 9 which could be
running in Licensed or Educational mode.


Enter your Tally.NET ID in Your E-Mail ID field

Enter your the password in Your Tally.NET Password field.
To reset the password click F5: Reset Password or press F5
In case the user is logging in to Control Centre, Support Centre, Remote User, Surrender License
and Update License for the first time after creating the account, Tally.ERP 9 will automatically take
you to Change My Password. To know more on how to change the password, refer to Change My
Password.
Restrictions on concurrent Remote Logins of Tally.NET Users
There are certain restrictions on the number of concurrent Remote Logins that can be performed for
different types of Sessions (Logins into Remote Company, Control Centre, Support Centre):

The restrictions will be applied at Account level.
So, if the Account is linked to:

1 Silver License, 1 Remote Login Session can be done

1 Gold License, 10 Remote Login Sessions can be done

2 Silver Licenses, 2 Remote Login Sessions can be done (1 Session per Silver License)

1 Silver License and 1 Gold License, 11 Remote Login Sessions can be done (1 Session for
Silver License plus 10 Sessions for Gold License)
Illustration:
ABC Company has a Gold License, hence can do 10 Remote Sessions at a time. The first 10 users can
log in using the process explained here.
The 11th user will not be able to log in, as the number of Remote Login Sessions for a Gold License is
limited to 10.
When the 11th user tries to log into a Remote Company, the following error message will be displayed:
There might be a scenario wherein such a business owner also has a Silver License. In such cases the
limit of 1 Remote Login Session will apply.
Work in Educational Mode
Work in Educational Mode is an option available in the Startup screen to the future users of
Tally.ERP 9. The future users can install and have live experience on the features and reports available
in Tally.ERP 9, whereas Tally.NET User and Tally.NET Auditor can login from a remote location,
view reports or scrutinise data while Tally.ERP 9 works in Educational mode.
In the Startup screen

Press Alt+W or select Work in Educational Mode
The Work in Educational Mode has two options


Silver Edition Mode: On selecting this option Tally.ERP 9 will function as Single User edition
in Educational Mode. You will be able input data on the first and the last day of the month.
Gold Edition Mode: On selecting this option Tally.ERP 9 will function in Multi User edition in
Educational mode. You will be able input data on the first and the last day of the month.
You can select the required option and explore the available features.
Update License
The procedure to update Tally.ERP 9 license for Single Site and Multi Site is similar. You require
updating the license information when the TDL / General configuration assigned to the Account have to
be applied to the respective site or when you renew/subscribe for Tally.NET. To update the license
ensure that your computer is connected to Internet.
Go to Gateway of Tally or from the Company Info menu

Press F12: Configure > Licensing.

In the Licensing screen.

Select Update License.

The Administrator Login screen appears.

Provide your Account ID in Your E-Mail ID field.

Provide your account password in Your Tally.NET Password field.
Note: To reset the password click F5: Reset Password or press F5

Tally.ERP 9 displays the message License Updated Successfully.
Note: In case the user is logging in to Control Centre, Support Centre, Remote User, Surrender
License and Update License for the first time after creating the account, Tally.ERP 9 will
automatically take you to change the password. To know more on how to change the password click
Change My Password.
Surrender License
In case the user desires to use Tally.ERP 9 on another computer, surrender the activated license. You
have to surrender the Tally.ERP 9 license in one of the following scenarios:
1. Format the hard disk
2. Reinstall the operating system
3. Add new hardware or drivers
4. Reactivate the same license on another computer
To surrender the single site license, you have to execute the following steps:
From the Company Info menu or Gateway of Tally

Press F12: Configure > Licensing

Select Surrender License

Tally.ERP 9 prompts you with a message as shown below

Press Y or click on Yes to surrender license

Tally.ERP 9 displays a message License Surrendered Successfully.
Note: In Tally.ERP 9 the License Surrender request can be made from the server or the client machine
based on the requirement
To reset the password click F5: Reset Password or press F5
In case the user is logging in to Control Centre, Support Centre, Remote User, Surrender License
and Update License for the first time after creating the account, Tally.ERP 9 will automatically take
you to change the password. To know more on how to change the password click Change My
Password.
Extend Tally.NET Subscription
The validity of Tally.NET subscription is displayed in the License block of the Info Panel, which will
turn red fifteen days prior to the expiry of Tally.NET subscription, followed by the entire line appearing
in red when the Tally.NET subscription expires.
On expiry of Tally.NET subscription for the respective site the following services are unavailable to the
user:

Product and Statutory (Stat File) Updates

Access Data from a Remote location

Data synchronization using Tally.NET servers

Remote user creation and maintenance
In order to have uninterrupted Tally.NET services it is suggested to extend the subscription well in
advance before the expiry date.
Note: Unpaid services such as Account management for single and multi site, Access Tally.ERP 9 via
SMS from mobile*, Online exams*, Online help and support, Registering and Connecting company, and
Remote authorization and authentication are available to the user during the elapsed period.
Users can extend the Tally.NET Subscription at a click while using Tally.ERP 9 for their day to day
work without any extra effort. You can also extend the Tally.NET subscription by choosing any one of
the following methods shown below:
1. Extend Tally.NET Subscription from Tally.ERP 9
2. Visit the Tally Online Shopping page on www.tallysolutions.com
3. Contact your nearest Tally Partner
The Tally.NET Subscription can be extended under any one of the possible scenarios:
1. Extend Tally.NET Subscription before the end of the validity period.
2. The Tally.NET Subscription had expired and you need to extend the Tally.NET Subscription.
3. The Tally.NET subscription had expired earlier and you need to upgrade to the latest release of
Tally.ERP 9 which was made available after the Tally.NET Subscription expired.
Scenario 1: Extend Tally.NET Subscription before the end of the validity period

Click Tally.NET subscription valid till 31-Mar-2010
The Tally.ERP 9 License and Tally.NET Details screen appears as shown:

Select Tally.NET Subscription will expire on 31-Mar-2010. Press <Enter> to extend the
subscription.
Scenario 2: Tally.NET Subscription has expired and you need to extend the Tally.NET Subscription.

Click Tally.NET Subscription expired on 31-Mar-2010
The Tally.ERP 9 License and Tally.NET Details screen appears as shown

Select Tally.NET Subscription has expired on 31-Mar-2010. Press <Enter> to extend the
subscription
Scenario 3: Tally.NET subscription has expired earlier and you have upgraded to the latest release of
Tally.ERP 9 which was made available after the Tally.NET Subscription expired
On starting Tally.ERP 9

To extend the Tally.NET subscription

Select Extend Tally.NET Subscription

Click Tally.NET subscription expired on 31-Mar-2010

Select W: Work In Educational Mode

Tally.NET subscription for Multi-User and Single User Edition is set to Rs. 21600/- and 7200/respectively.
Enter the required TallyCurrency Key in TallyCurrency Key field
Payment Mode - Credit/Debit Card




In Method of Payment field, select Credit/Debit Card from List of Payment Methods
In the Preferred Partner field, select the required partner from the List of Partners displayed or
you can also search for a preferred partner based on the name or location.
By default the Period to Extend is set to 1 Year
Based on the Edition activated the rate of subscription appears in Price field. By default the
Tally.NET subscription for Multi-User and Single User Edition is set to Rs. 21600/- and Rs.
7200/- respectively.

Press Y or Enter to save the details and trigger to the Payment Gateway screen as shown below:

Provide the Credit/Debit Card details as required

Click Pay to submit the card details
On successful payment, the Tally.NET Subscription will now get extended.
Method of Payment - Net Banking




In Method of Payment field, select Net Banking from List of Payment Methods
In the Preferred Partner field, select the required partner from the List of Partners displayed or
you can also search for a preferred partner based on the name or location.
By default the Period to Extend is set to 1 Year
Based on the Edition activated the rate of subscription appears in Price field. By default the
Tally.NET subscription for Multi-User and Single User Edition is set to Rs. 21600/- and Rs.

Specify the required details and complete the purchase transaction
Note: Net Banking facility from this screen is available only from Release 4.7. Users using Release 4.61
or lower should select Credit Card option in the Method of Payment field of this screen and then
select the Net Banking facility from the web page that appears subsequently.
On successful payment, the Invoice cum Delivery Note appears.
On successfully extending the Tally.NET Subscription, the new date appears against Tally.NET
subscription valid till in License block of the Info Panel.
Reset License
The Reset License option clears licensing information from your computer for the required license
serial number. You can reset the license under following circumstances:

You have not received an email containing the Unlock Key.

Need to clear license information for a subscription based license.

You are not connected to the Internet and there is a need to move the license from one machine to
another machine.
To reset the license follow the steps shown:

Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing

Select Reset License

Tally.ERP 9 prompts a message as shown:

Press Y or click on Yes to reset license.

Tally.ERP 9 displays a message License Reset Successfully!
Configure License
You can now configure the Tally.ERP 9 license without actually opening the Tally.ini file. The
Configure License option is available in the Startup screen or from Gateway of Tally press F12:
Configure > Licensing > Configure Existing License.
The Configure Existing License provides the option to configure a Single User or a Multi-User
License. Opting to configure a Multi-User license you need to provide the Name or the IP Address of
the license server and Port number or provide the path of the license file while configuring a Single
User license.
To configure the Tally.ERP 9 license follow the steps shown:

In the Startup screen

Select Configure Existing License
Or
Go to Gateway of Tally or the Company Info menu

Click F12: Configure or press F12

Select Licensing > Configure Existing License
The Configure Existing License screen appears
In Configure Existing License section

Select the required license mode from the list of License Mode displayed.
Existing Single-User

By default the License File resides in the location where Tally.ERP 9 is installed. Type the
required path incase the license file resides in another folder.
The license file path for Windows 7 operating system is C:\Program Files\Tally.ERP9

Click Yes or press Y to save
Existing Multi-User


Provide the required Name/IP Address of the license server in Tally License Server field.
By default, Tally.ERP 9 uses port 9999. In case you want to use another port then specify the
required Port Number in Port field.

Click Yes or Press Y to save the license server details.
Restart Tally.ERP 9
Tally.ERP 9 displays a message Do you want to restart Tally.ERP 9 for the changes to have effect ?

Click Yes or Press Y to effect the changes made.
Configuring Client in Multi User Environment
Configuring Tally.ERP 9 clients is made easy without any hassles at the press of a button. You do not
have to note down any technical information whether it is the Name/IP Address of the server machine or
the communication port number. At the Tally.ERP 9 client, all you need to do is press F2 and choose
from the list of compatible License Server displayed to get the license from the license server.
F2: License Servers:
This button allows you to search for the compatible Tally License Servers across the network and list
the same..
To list the compatible Tally License Servers:
From the Startup menu or Configure Existing License screen:

Click F2: License Server or press F2

Searching for compatible Tally License Server window opens as shown:
Once the search is complete, the List of Compatible Tally License Servers appears as shown:

Select the required License server from the list.
A confirmation message will appear as shown:

Press Enter to accept.
Tally.ERP 9 will start in Licensed mode and license details will appear under License block in the
information panel.
License Server Resolution
On providing an incorrect name of the Tally License Server or an invalid Port Number or when the
license server version is incompatible with the present release/version of Tally.ERP 9 and vice versa.
Tally.ERP 9 prompts you for a resolution.
From the License Server resolution screen shown below you can opt to resolve by selecting the required
option.
1: Reconfigure existing License


Select this option if you had provided an incorrect License Server name or an invalid port number
or the license server version is incompatible.
The Configure Existing License screen appears as shown:

In Configure select Existing Multi User

Provide the required Name/IP Address of the license server in Tally License Server field.


By default, Tally.ERP 9 uses port 9999. In case you want to use another port then provide the
required Port Number in Port field.
Click Yes or press Y to save
2: Install and Start License Server on this system

Select this option to install and start the license server on your computer.

The Install and start License Server screen appears as shown:

Enter the required path or folder where the license server has to be installed in Tally License
Server executable path

By default Tally.ERP 9 uses port 9999 or enter a port of your choice.

Click Yes or press Y to save
3: Continue activation in Single User Mode

Select this option if you want to restart Tally.ERP 9 in single user mode.

The startup screen appears
To know the detailed process to activate a single user license click Activate License.
Admin Tool
In a multi user environment one computer is designated as the License Server and all other computers
in the network are designated as License Clients. You can install the License Service for Tally.ERP 9
or opt to have a common license server for multiple products of Tally on a single computer designated
as License Server.
The TallyAdmin is an administrative tool that helps in performing the following tasks:



Manage license for a single product or multiple products of Tally on a standalone computer or
license server.
Convert an existing Hard Lock License from the earlier version of Tally to a Soft Lock License
for Tally.ERP 9,
Migrate TCP, TSF and ENC files from earlier versions of Tally to a version that is compatible
with Tally.ERP 9.
To start the Admin Tool

Double click on TallyAdmin.exe
The Tally Admin displays the list of Tally products that are compatible with the current version of the
AdminTool and tabs to manage licensing operations for Single User, License Server for Multi-User and
Convert files to a format that are compatible with Tally.ERP 9.
License Server
You can Activate or Reactivate a license on the computer designated as the Server for the selected or all
the Tally product. The activation, reactivation, update and surrender is the same as discussed earlier.
After activating / reactivating the license, the Update and Surrender buttons appear which are discussed
below.

Click License Server tab

The Product drop down list allows you to select the required Tally product.

Check Show All License Servers in LAN to list of available license servers on the Local Area
Network. The table below displays the names of available license servers, IP Address, Port
number used for communication, name of the License Service, License Server Version and the
License status. you can select the required License Service displayed
The License Server tab has the following buttons :


Activate: You can activate a Single Site or Multi Site license, using this option. The detailed
steps for activating a single site and multi site license are discussed in Activating Tally.ERP 9
Single Site and Multi Site respectively.
Re-Activate: You can Reactivate a Single Site or Multi Site license using this option. On
selecting this option, the Reactivate License screen appears. Enter the site administrator's email
id and the password in E-Mail ID of Site Administrator and Password fields respectively. Click
Submit. The license is reactivated.


Update: Allows you to update the license when you have assigned General/TDL Configuration
and when you have renewed/subscribed for Tally.NET
Surrender: Allows you to surrender the license so that you can activate it on another computer as
required

Refresh LS list: Will display the refreshed list of License Servers available on the LAN.

Connections List: Will display the list of computer connected to the license server.

Proxy Configuration: Will allow the user to configure the proxy server, if required.

Click Proxy Configuration and enter the Proxy Server URL/IP Address to access the internet.

Enter the required Username and Password in case the proxy server requires authentication


In Connection Timeout provide the duration in seconds for the system to disconnect from the
proxy server when it is unable to establish a connection within the specified duration.
Check Use Absolute URL for HTTP Actions to send the complete URL .
Check Show All Licenses in LAN to display the list of Servers available within a Network along with
the System Name, IP Address, Port, Service Name and License Status for different products of Tally.
Local License
To Activate or Reactivate a license on a stand alone computer for single user edition of the selected or
all the Tally product click Local License Management tab and follow the steps shown:



In the Product drop down list select the required product
The default License Path is displayed as C:\Tally.ERP9, click on the box provided to change the
license file path.
Click Activate or Reactivate button to activate a new license or reactivate an existing license.
The Activate, Reactivate and Proxy Configuration buttons are explained in the previous section.
Convert the Hard Lock to a Soft Lock license.
Tally 6.3/Tally 7.2 user can convert the existing Hard Lock license to a Soft Lock License that is
compatible with Tally.ERP 9, the Convert button provided in the TallyAdmin tool helps the user in
converting the Hard Lock license to Soft Lock License.
To convert an existing Hard Lock license follow the steps shown:




Click Convert
The Hard Lock to Soft Lock Conversion Form appears displaying the Serial Number from an
earlier version of Tally.
Enter the required Email ID of the Administrator in Email ID of the Administrator field.
Repeat the Email ID of the Administrator in Repeat (EMail ID of the Administrator) field for
the purpose of confirmation.

Click Submit
On successful conversion of the Hard Lock you will receive an email containing the License Key to
unlock the encrypted license file. To read the detailed process to unlock the license file click Unlock
License.
In case the Email ID of the Administrator already exists, you need to opt for Licensing Resolution.
License Service
This feature of the Admin tool allows the user to Install, Uninstall or Restart the license service on the
computer designated as license server for any of the Multi-User products from Tally.
To manage the License Service on your computer, click License Service Management
In the License Server Path section

By default, the License Server Path displays C:\Tally.ERP9, click on the button provided to
change the license server path.
In the Ping section

In the IP Address/System Name field enter the Name of IP Address of the license server.

In the Port field, enter the required Port Number

Click Ping to check for connectivity with the license server
The License Service tab has three button namely :



Install : Set up/run the license service in the background on the computer designated as Server.
On starting the License Service, a message Tally License Server Installed and Started
Successfully is displayed.
Uninstall : Removes the license service from the Server. On removing the License Service
displays a message Tally License Server uninstalled successfully.
Restart : Restart the License Server once again. On restarting the license server a message Tally
License Server restarted successfully is displayed.
Conversion

Conversion: Converts TCP and TSF files from earlier version of Tally 9 to a format compatible
with Tally.ERP 9. For more details refer- Migrating TCP Files from Tally 9 to Tally.ERP 9
Licensing Resolutions
Licensing resolutions occur when the systems encounters a conflict with the Site/Account
Administrator’s E-Mail ID or a Site ID while activating a license. This system has a built-in capability
that detects duplicate E-Mail ID or Site ID within an account or across accounts and proceeds to resolve
the conflict through the licensing mechanism available separately for Single Site license and Multi Site
account activations.
Licensing Resolution - Single Site
When the user provides an E-Mail ID that already exist within an account or across accounts while
activating a license. Tally.ERP 9 prompts the user with the resolution screen as shown below:
In the User Resolution screen, select the required option to activate the license:
1. Add to Existing Account:


Select this option in case you want the serial number provided to be included in the existing
account.
The Activate Site Licence screen appears as shown:
Refer to Site Activation process to activate a Site
2. Create a New Account:



Select this option when you want to retain the existing Account ID for the purpose of Account
Administration and the License Serial Number provided to be activated under the new Account
ID.
The Supporting Activation Form appears as shown:
Provide the required Account ID in the Account ID field, a new account will be created and the
License Serial Number provided in the Activation Form will be included in the new Account
ID.
Licensing Resolution - Multi Site
When the user provides an E-Mail ID which is already existing within the same or different account or
when the Site ID is duplicated within the same account, Tally.ERP 9 detects the duplicate E-Mail Id or
Account ID as a conflict and provides the option to resolve it.
The conflict of a duplicate Account/Site Administrators E-Mail ID or Site ID can either be resolved
by providing a new E-Mail ID or Site ID to activate the license serial number. In case the license serial
number was surrendered earlier, the user can opt to reactivate the same.
The User Resolution screen appears as shown below:
1. Select Create a New Site:
Tally.ERP 9 displays the message Congratulations! Your Activation Request has been Processed.
An encrypted file is now on your machine.

Provide the unlock license file in Unlock License field to activate the site license.
2. Reactivate Existing Site:
Provide E-Mail ID of the Administrator and password to reactivate the site by following the steps
shown:

Enter the password for the Email ID provided.
The Reactivate License screen appears, based on the availability of the Internet connection the user can
opt to activate the license in Online or Offline mode.
Online Activation

Tally.ERP 9 displays the message Congratulations! Your Activation Request has been
Processed. An encrypted file is now on your machine.

Press Enter to continue.

Proceed to section Step 2: Procedure to Unlock License File.
Offline Activation
Tally.ERP 9 displays a Connection Error screen containing the Error Code and System Error Code
along with the Reasons for Failure, Possible Solutions and What to do now? (Actions)




Select Continue in offline mode.
Tally.ERP 9 displays a message Your Offline Activation Request file has been Created
Successfully. A license request file named tally_req.lic is generated and stored in the default
Tally.ERP 9 folder.
Copy the tally_req.lic onto a pen drive/CD and paste the file into the Tally.ERP9 folder. This
computer must be connected to the Internet and Tally.ERP 9 could be running in Licensed or
Educational mode.
Start Tally.ERP 9.
The Startup screen appears.

Select Send External Request.


Tally.ERP 9 displays a message Offline Response File Generated Successfully.
Copy tally_lck.lic file to a pendrive/CD and paste this file to the Tally.ERP9 folder of the
computer where Tally.ERP 9 is to be activated.
The Reactivation Successful message appears.

Press Enter.
The Gateway of Tally appears displaying the Info Panel which contains information on the Release,
Edition and Users under Version block, the Serial Number, Account ID and validity of Tally.NET
Subscription under License block and various configuration details under the Configuration block.
Reset Password
The reset password options allows the user to set a new password in case you have forgotten or lost your
old password.
On receiving the reset password request from the user, a system generated email containing a link to
reset password web page is sent to the Account Administrator's E-Mail ID for a Single User Account or
to the respective Site Administrator's E-Mail ID for a multi-site account. The user needs to open the web
page, enter the new password and repeat the password once again for the purpose of confirmation.
You can reset the password from any one of the following screens:

Login As Remote Tally.NET User

Login to the Support Centre

Login to the Control Centre

Surrender License
To reset the password follow the steps shown:
In any one of the screens mentioned above

Click F5: Reset Pwd or press F5
The Reset Password screen appears

Enter the E-Mail ID of the Account Administrator or Site Administrator
An email containing the link to reset password web page is mailed to the E-Mail ID of the Account
Administrator or Site Administrator.

Click the link shown
The Change My Password web page appears as shown

Enter the password in New Password field

For the purpose of confirmation re-Enter the password in Repeat field

Click Save
The new password is saved, you can now start using the new password for logging in.
Note: In case the user is logging in to Control Centre, Support Centre, Remote User, Update
License and Surrender License for the first time after creating the account, Tally.ERP 9 will
automatically take you to change the password. To know more on how to change the password click
Change My Password.
Change My Password
On creating an account, the password is mailed to the E-Mail ID of the Account Administrator or the
Site Administrator in order to access the account and perform other operations. This password is system
generated alphanumeric string of nine characters in length. Normally, the system generated password is
used to log in and change the password or to be used for the shortest duration. As a security concern, it
is highly recommended to change the password immediately, even before you log in to the account or
perform any other operations.
This task of changing the password is made simple and easy without performing any additional step.
Tally.ERP 9 prompts the user to change the password on attempting to log in for the first time after
creating the account to any one of the following features.

Remote Tally.NET User

Support Centre

Control Centre

Surrender License

Update License
Rules for New Passwords





Minimum of 5 characters and a maximum of 18 characters in length
The password can contain alphabets in upper case (A to Z), lower case (a to z) and numbers (0 to
9)
Special characters +,-,*, / ,= ,_ ,comma, full stop, ~ ,!,@,#,$,%,^,&,(,),[,],{,},|,:,;,‘,<,>,?,\.
The password entered is case insensitive, i.e., the password can be entered in either upper case or
lower case or both.
Change the password frequently
On providing the required Email ID of the Account Administrator or the Site Administrator and the
password in any one of the aforementioned features, the Change My Password screen appears as
shown:

Enter the previous password in the Old Password field

Enter the new password in New Password field

Re-Enter the new password once again in Repeat field for the purpose of confirmation.
On successfully changing the password the corresponding screen appears.
To subsequently log in to the Control Centre, Support Centre, Remote User, Surrender or Update
the license, you need to provide the new password.
Later you can change the password by logging into the Control Centre and then select My Password.
In case you have forgotten or lost the password you can opt to reset it.
