Functional description
The IP Viewer N151 provides the following functions:
• This device incorporates a web server for operating
and monitoring KNX systems.
• It can display up to 5 operating pages on a wide variety
of standard browser. On this, up to 40 functions are
provided.
• A web configuration page allows you to edit the display in 10 languages.
• It provides an interface to KNX installations via data
networks using the Internet protocol (IP). At the same
time, this device provides communication from KNX
devices with PCs or other data processing devices (EIBnet/IP Tunneling).
Client software products, such as ETS 3, which are
based on the EIBnet/IP tunnel protocol, can set up connections to the IP Viewer N151.
• Communication with a visualization software via IP
network (object server connection) is possible (See
supported software).
The settings for the device will be programmed by ETS
into the default settings. The data types of the 40 available functions are defined and basic data on the device
made. The following function types can be selected:

Using this parameter the device can be given a name that can
be used to make it easy to find in the device search via the
network and in the visualization. Punctuation marks (e.g.,. .,/)
and special characters are not allowed.
IP Address assignment

The type of IP address assignment is established here.
DHCP is preassigned by default for an automatic address assignment by a DHCP service. The IP address assigned by the
DHCP is used until a reset or line voltage is restored.
If “manual entry“ is selected, two further parameters, “IP Config 1” and “IP Config 2” are added for the manual entry of the
IP address, subnet mask and the standard gateway.
When the IP Viewer is used as a visualization server, a fixed IP
address is advisable, since the server can always be reached
under this assigned address.

This parameter is visible only when the DHCP use has been selected in the IP address assignment.
This parameter can be used to establish that DHCP will always
be used or the fixed IP address can be used when, after a certain time, no IP address can be received by a DHCP service (default setting). The time is defined under the “Details” parameter.
If “use fix IP, if DHCP server is not available“ is selected, two
further parameters, “IP Config 1” and “IP Config 2” are added
for the manual entry of the IP address, subnet mask and the
standard gateway.
The “IP Config 1” and “IP Config” 2 tabs are visible only if
“manual input” was set in the IP address assignment or
"use fix IP, if DHCP server is not available" in the IP start
option.

The Standard Gateway is used to transmit IP telegrams that
are addressed to a computer outside the local network.
If a DHCP service is set, this address will be permanently overwritten by the address assigned by the DHCP server.
If the DHCP server does not transmit an address for a gateway,
it is assumed that no gateway is to be used.
If the device is to be parameterized without a Standard Gateway, the preset (invalid) address should be used (0.0.0.0).

Viewer should receive a response from an IP communication
partner to a sent message.
If the response has not come back within the Communication
Timeout, the message is resent and, after a repeated attempt,
the connection is terminated and the message rejected.

Upon starting up the IP viewer for the first time, the IP
address of the device must be notified or the device configured as an IP communication interface in the ETS. In
this way, you can program these via the proprietary IP interface with the IP viewer and edit the parameters.
In the standard configuration, a DHCP server allocates
the IP address to the IP viewer. If the IP viewer is connected in an existing structured network (router), then
the IP address is allocated dynamically via a corresponding server.
For example, the IP viewer is allocated an IP address in
the range 192.168.x.x.

We recommend allocating a fixed IP address and this
must be co-ordinated with the network administrator.
If the IP viewer is connected directly to the PC with a
cross-over patch cable, then no DHCP server is available.

If the IP address cannot be allocated via the DHCP server
because, for example, no connection to the DHCP server
has been set up or because the IP viewer is connected directly to the PC, then the IP address 169.254.254.254
and the Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 is used. These are the
settings in the delivery state of the IP Viewer. It gets active if the parametrized DHCP-timeout has passed.
The ETS3 configures the IP viewer as a communication
interface and hence reads the allocated IP address.
Select Extras -> Options in the ETS3 for this.
In the Options window, select the “Communication” tab.
Select IP Viewer from the list (1) and enter a name for
the Interface in the field (2).
Use the founded MAC address to select the correct IP device.
This is shown on the IP viewer.
The allocated IP address is displayed beneath it.
Note
If you set up the IP Viewer N 151 as a communication interface, after parameter setting actuate the “KNXnet/IP
Diagnose-Assistent“ button. Now select as test type the
setting “Manual Configuration.“ After the “Perform Test“
has been pressed, you will receive the error message
with the Unicast-Test “Test failed”. This message is triggered by an error with the internal Unicast test of the ETS
and can be ignored.
Click on “Configure Interfaces..”
Confirm a new interface by clicking on the "New" button
and select KNXnet/IP as the type.
The ETS searches automatically for available IP devices.

After you have quit the window by clicking on "OK", click
on the "Test" button to check the bus connection via the
IP viewer. The message "OK" appears on the right.

Note
If the N151 IP viewer is selected as the communication
interface, then an additional physical address must be
configured for fault-free operation.
Click on “Settings”.
Note
If a DHCP server is in the IP network at disposal, the IP
configuration at the PC must relate to “Obtain an IP address automatically” taken on be.
Automatic allocation can take some minutes to complete.
Enter an additional address in the "Physical Address" field
that has not yet been used and that is in the same line as
the physical address of the IP viewer. Use the "Is this address free?" button to check whether the address has already been used. Click on the "OK" button to write the
entered address into the device and this will then be
used for the connection with the ETS3.
After setting the IP communication interface, you can
now configure the IP viewer via a connection to the ETS.
In every case you must follow these procedures and instructions, even if the IP viewer is programmed and configured via an external interface.
The IP configuration is also particularly important. If you
use the default setting: “IP address assignment by DHCP
server”, then it is essential to select "Use fix IP, if DHCP
server is not available" as the IP start option.
This allocation is already default.
The following IP address and the following IP subnet
mask is then already as default IP start option predefined and can be adapted:

If no DHCP service should be available and the IP Adress
192.168.3.1 and the Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 therefore be used per default, then the IP configuration at the
PC must be adjusted on "Use the following IP address".
For example the corresponding IP address 192.168.3.2
and the corresponding Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 is at
the PC to parametrize now.

Configuration and operation (Firmware V5.0.6)
After the IP Viewer has been loaded with the ETS - setting, all of the configurations set, all selected functions
connected to the group addresses, all the defined function types can be displayed in the pre-set state on a WEB
configuration page.
The view type and the assignment of the functions to the
individual user pages, in addition to some configuration
settings, can be parameterized via the WEB configuration
page,

If you are working with an earlier firmware release than
V5.0.5, then the WEB configuration page and the display
and user page will be called up separately.
The IP viewer WEB configuration page is accessed via the
IP address that was assigned in the ETS configuration.
The specification "config.htm" is to be added to this.
The user name and the password are defined in the ETS
setting. The same case used there must be used in the
entry here.
If nothing was entered in the ETS setting, you can click
“OK“directly to start the WEB configuration page.
Start the configuration page by clicking on the left-hand
button in the login window.
Start the display and operating page by clicking on the
right-hand button in the login window.

and in its layout from that as in firmware release V5.0.5.
The display of the values and the operation of the functions with the buttons is similarly intuitively carried out.
The address assignment was carried out via a DHCP –
service, the allocated IP - address can be seen in the ETS
Connection Manager, in the communication parameters,
see the section: "Procedure on starting up for the first
time".
The WEB pages are fundamentally protected by a user
name as well as by a password.

The header of the WEB configuration page contains the
information of the latest firmware release, the language
selection and two command keys for loading and writing
the set configuration into or out of the device.
The configuration page can be displayed in: German,
English, Spanish, French, Greek, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish and Chinese. The "Language" pull-down
window is available for this purpose.

Under the header there is a line for global settings.
Refresh Interval (s):
If an automatic Refresh Interval is to be defined, this can
be set in the window with a minimum refresh rate of 2
seconds.
In this interval the status changes of the communications
objects are read.
The setting 0 means that there will be no Refresh. The
default setting is 0.
Key delay (ms):
With dimming and Blind functions a long keypress is
used for the dimming or move command. So as to be
able to distinguish between a long and a short keypress,
this time is defined in milliseconds. The default setting is
700 ms.
Programming time (ms):
When saving a scene, you use a long keypress to save
this scene and a short keypress to call this scene.
So as to be able to distinguish between a long and a
short keypress, this time is defined in milliseconds.
The default setting is 1500 ms.
The page labels are provided in the fields under the
global settings. Descriptions for 5 operating pages can be
entered. In each case, there is a maximum of 16 characters available for this purpose.
The label field has a maximum of 20 characters available
to describe the function. If necessary, a line break is
made at this point and the label is shown on two lines.
This produces the optimum arrangement of the status
symbols and operating buttons shown on the right adjoining the label.

When entering the label, the following special characters
are not supported:
%, ?, >, <, =, \, “, }, {, &, #, +
View
Several variants are available for display for each basic
data type (ETS configuration). In the “View“ column a
view type can be individually selected according to the
set function type. A pull-down window provides a convenient selection method.
Function type: Switching with status
Under the page label is the “Control Section“ section, the
largest section.
This is where all of the functions that have already been
linked in the ETS with a group address are displayed.
The following information is shown in tabulated form or
is ready for modification.

A blind or shutter function is displayed in the following
design:
Function type: 1 Byte value [0…255] set and display
Function type: 1 Byte relative [0…100%] set and display
The user can choose here whether the value [0…100%]
should be displayed as a pure display, without change
option or whether the value should be adjustable.
If you select “Status Display Only“ the object value will be
displayed without change option.
If you select “Buttons +/-“ the value is displayed with
change option. The value is changed in steps using the
two buttons "+" and "-". The step size is thereby determined in the “Parameter“ field on the WEB configuration
page. The smallest interval is 1.
The user can choose here whether the value [0…255]
should be displayed as a pure display, without any
change option, or whether the value should be displayed
in an adjustable manner.
Selecting "Status Display only". "Buttons +/-", "Set variable
value" and "Set fixed value" shows the same display windows and value setters as under Function type: 1 Byte
relativ [0…100%].
Select "Heat control" to set the room temperature modes
for room temperature control. You can toggle between
operating modes Comfort, Pre-comfort, Economy and
Building Protection modes - with the two right-hand buttons "+" and "-".
If you select “Set Var Value“ the value is displayed with
change option. The value can be changed via the display
field. The value is sent by pressing the right-hand button.
If “Set Fix Value“ is selected, the value defined on the
WEB configuration page in the “Parameter“ field is interpreted as a fixed value between 0 …100. The value is
sent to the EIB Bus by pressing the key.

Function type: Scene recall/program 8 bit
Here the user can define an operating element to only
recall scenes or to recall scenes and to program them.
If "Recall Scene" is selected, with a short press on the operating button, the scene number (1 to 64) which was
entered in the "Parameter" field is recalled. A value decremented by 1 is also sent in the communication object,
according to the KNX definition. If a value "1" is set in the
"Parameter" field, the value "0" is then sent in the communication object. If a value "64" is set in the "Parameter"
field, the value "63" is then sent in the communication
object.
For example, if the value "0" is in the communication object, scene 1 is recalled/programmed.
As already described for the WEB configuration page, the
WEB display and operating page is protected by the same
user name and by the password.
Start the display and operating page by clicking on the
right-hand button in the login window.
The visualization page is generated automatically and
presented to the user as follows:
If "Recall/Program scene" is selected, with a long
keypress, the value for this scene is programmed
This scene function is carried out by e.g. actors, which
support 8 bit scenes.
The IP Viewer N151 does not administer any scenes of its
own, it is used only for saving and calling scenes which
are stored in separate scene modules or actuators.
Operation
After the completion of the configuration for the display,
the WEB page can be accessed via the IP address that was
assigned in the ETS configuration:
http://<ip-adress>
The address assignment was carried out via a DHCP –
service, the allocated IP - address can be seen in the ETS
Connection Manager, in the communication parameters.
The login window re-appears first.

Start the overview on the visualization page by pressing
the "Home" button in the top left corner. All 5 possible
operating and display pages are displayed under each
other and can be called up directly.
With the “Browse“ button a dialog is opened to select the
Firmware Image, e.g., UpgradeV506SiemensAll.bin, on a
data carrier in the respective directory.
The name of the operating and display page appears in
the centre of the menu line.
You scroll sequentially to browse between the 5 operating and display pages using the two left and right arrow
keys.
You update the communications objects and hence the
display values using the "Refresh" button in the top right
corner.
Labelling the pages, description and displaying the functions have already been described in the "Configuration"
section.
Maintenance and Upgrade Function
The IP Viewer N151 is equipped with a convenient way
of carrying out a firmware upgrade, without the device
having to be removed.
Future developments can thus be installed online without great effort.
The Upgrade page is accessed as follows:

There are two files available for the firmware upgrade to
the version V5.0.5.
Selecting the file UpgradeV505Siemens.bin runs an incremental upgrade. At the same time, the ETS configurations and thus the configured WEB configuration interface are not overwritten. This release is recommended
for a firmware upgrade, because the configuration is
maintained.
If you select the file UpgradeV505SiemensAll.bin, this
runs a complete upgrade. The IP viewer is reset to the exworks state. The physical address is reset to 15.15.255.
Any former configuration executed is lost.
The firmware version V5.0.6 is available only as a complete firmware upgrade.
After the selection of the corresponding file, which has
an extension “bin,“ you can load the new Firmware on
the device using the “Press“ button.
Once you have loaded the firmware successfully, you will
receive the message: “SUCCESS – system will reboot in a
few seconds“.
This operation can take several seconds. Then the IP
Viewer will be restarted automatically with the new firmware.
Via the WEB configuration page the new firmware version, e.g., V5.0.6, will be displayed at the top left.
Return to the as-delivered status
To return the device to the as-delivered status, the supply
voltage must be switched on while the program key is
pressed.

An initial reset is thus carried out and the device is once
again in the as-delivered condition with the physical address: 15.15.255.
This includes the download of devices via Bus and the
group monitor function.

Supported Software
Below is a selection of software that is compatible with
the IP Viewer N151.
If the IP Viewer N151 is to be configured via the Tunneling connection, this configuration must take place via
the Bus. The local setting may not be used.
Web browser
For the display of the web configuration page and the
display- and operating pages, a javascript enabled web
browser (optimized for x86 based PC, Internet Explorer
ver. 6.0 [Win2000]/ 7.0 [WinXP]/ 8.0 or
Firefox release 3.0.14 [Win2000]/3.5.2[WinXP]) is necessary.
The following additional browsers were tested successfully:
Safari 4.0.2 (x86),
Nokia 5800 (Mobile Browser);
Google G1 (Mobile Browser),
Iphone (Mobile Browser)
Notice:
When using other web browsers or other releases (Safari,
Opera, Internet Explorer mobile, Firefox light, Netscape)
operation and display of the web pages may not work
properly respectively the function is not ensured.

After the installation of the ETS3 driver and the release of
the IP Viewer N151 as communication interface, a Windows error message can appear that the "Class" is not
known.
In this case the Microsoft .Net Framework should be installed, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft
Update page (file size: approx. 25 MB).

An EIBnet/IP driver is available for the ETS3 from Version
ETS3.0d (PatchA). When this driver is installed, the ETS3
can use the IP Viewer N151 like a conventional serial
RS232 or USB interface for communication with the Bus.
