Mercury 8/9.9 HP FourStroke outboard engine Service Bulletin

The 8/9.9 HP Four Stroke Remote Control Outboards are designed for use with Mercury Marine barrel type control cables. These outboards are compatible with both SAE and Mercury Marine barrel type cables. You can use the Mercury Marine barrel type cables directly or install a kit to convert between SAE and Mercury Marine barrel type cables. The outboards come with a label indicating that they require Mercury Marine style shift and throttle cables.

Part Interchangeability

Mercury Marine will offer two kits to address boats or engines that do not have compatible throttle and shift cables:

1. Kit P/N 64‑892790A01 will allow boats rigged with SAE cable connectors to hook up to the new style engines which require Mercury Marine barrel connections.
