Server Management Suite is a collection of solutions that run on the Symantec
Management Platform. These solutions let you discover, inventory, monitor, and
provision servers from a central console.

Server Management Suite is a collection of solutions that run on the Symantec
Management Platform. These solutions let you discover, inventory, monitor, and
provision servers from a central console - the Symantec Management Console.

Deployment Solution Deployment Solution helps to reduce the cost of deploying and

7.1 SP1a MR1/6.9 SP3 managing servers, desktops, and notebooks from a centralized
location in your environment. It offers operating system
deployment, configuration, personality migration of computers,
and software deployment across different hardware platforms and
operating systems.
Deployment Solution 7.1 provides integrated provisioning, disk
imaging, and personality migration from the Symantec
Management Console. Using Symantec Ghost™, you can perform
initial computer deployment using standard images and migrate
user data and application settings to new computers.
Deployment Solution 6.9 SP3, which is a Windows application, is
not included in the Server Management Suite installation. However,
Server Management Suite includes a license to run Deployment
Solution 6.9 or later. You can download and install the Deployment
Solution component separately. Go to the page
https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=55149, accept the
export restrictions, and then log on with your Symantec account
credentials. After you ensure that your profile information is
correct, all of the available versions of Deployment Solution are
listed on the Software Download: Deployment Solution page. Choose
the version that you want to download, and then click Download
Now. You can then complete the installation process.

Enhanced console
views
The enhanced Symantec Management Console views replace the DOC4731
default console views for computers and software that existed in
Symantec Management Platform version 7.0. For tasks and policies,
the enhanced views add drag-and-drop functionality. In addition,
you can now search the tree rather than drilling down to find
specific tasks or policies.

The enhanced views are incorporated into the existing console.
They let you manage computers, software, jobs and tasks, and
policies more efficiently with fewer clicks. For example, you can
now drag policies onto computers to apply the policies to those
computers. This action eliminates multiple steps that the previous

It brings exciting new features and capabilities to Notification

What's new in Server Management Suite 7.1 SP2
The SP2 release of Server Management Suite 7.1 includes the following
improvements:

Symantec Management Console now supports Internet Explorer 9 (in IE 8
compatibility mode).
■
The list of supported Linux and Mac operating systems has been expanded.
■
The suite documentation is migrated to Symantec Help Center.
■
Other enhancements to refine product quality.

General installation and upgrade information
You install this product by using the Symantec Installation Manager. You can
download the installation files directly to your server or you can create offline
installation packages.

See the product's documentation for information on how to configure and use it.
To perform an upgrade from version 7.1 or later, in the Symantec Installation
Manager click Install New Products, and then choose to install this product. Do
not use the Install Product Updates page to upgrade.
Symantec recommends that you upgrade all of the installed products to the latest
version. The easiest way to achieve this is to choose to install a suite.
If you use hierarchy, you must disable hierarchy replication and upgrade all
products to the latest version on each of the Notification Server computers.

After you upgrade the product, you must upgrade the Symantec Management
Agent and the plug-ins that are installed on the managed computers. Symantec
recommends that you do the following:

In the Symantec Management Console, click Actions > Agents/Plug-ins >
Rollout Agents/Plug-ins. Then, in the left pane, under Symantec Management
Agent, locate and turn on the upgrade policies for the Symantec Management
Agent.
■
In the Symantec Management Console, click Settings > All Settings. In the
left pane, expand Notification Server > Site Server Settings, and then locate
and turn on the upgrade policies for various site server plug-ins.
■
In the Symantec Management Console, click Actions > Agents/Plug-ins >
Rollout Agents/Plug-ins. Then, in the left pane, locate and turn on the upgrade
policies for various plug-ins.
Symantec recommends that you configure a schedule for these policies; the default
Run once ASAP option may not trigger the policy if this is not the first time you
perform an upgrade. Also, to speed up the upgrade process, consider temporarily
changing the Download new configuration every setting on the Targeted Agent
Settings page to a lower value.

Licenses are managed through Symantec Installation Manager. For more
