Natural heat
The heating system from Viessmann
Heat pumps should be your first choice if your
priorities are both to save on heating costs
and to generate heat in an environmentally
responsible way. After all, the environment
gives us an unlimited and free supply of the
energy a heat pump uses. This fully-fledged
heating system only consumes little power
for drives and pumps to make that energy
available. This makes you independent of
fossil fuels, and in addition you make an active
contribution towards reducing CO 2 emissions
and protecting the climate.
At around 40 percent, the heating market
actually accounts for the largest proportion
of energy consumption in Germany. The rest
is shared by "goods transport", "personal

Introduction
Simple principle, great result
The technical principle of a heat pump is similar to that of a fridge –
it just works the other way round.
In a fridge, heat is transferred from the
inside to the outside. With a heat pump,
this happens exactly the other way round.
The heat from outside – for example from
the ground – is transferred via the heating
system to the inside, into the living space. To
raise the temperature, a refrigerant vapour
is compressed until the temperature for
central and DHW heating is reached. With
the Vitocal 300-G and Vitocal 350-A, this can
even be up to 65 °C. This means this heat
pump can also be used for modernisation
projects.
Highly efficient scroll compressor
The compression process is vital for the
efficiency of a heat pump. Viessmann heat
pumps use a Compliant scroll compressor
that is comprised of two interlocking spirals
that continuously compress the refrigerant.
As with a bicycle pump, the temperature also
rises with increasing pressure. This ensures
efficient temperature raising from the cold
side (the heat source on the outside) to the
hot side (the heating circuit in the building).
Compliant scroll compressors as used by
Viessmann is that they operate quietly and
with low vibrations, are maintenance free and
extremely durable.
You won't need to worry about heating
bills any more
An investment in a Viessmann heat pump
will always be worthwhile because you won't
have to pay for any more fuel from day one.
From now on, the energy you use to generate
heat comes free, from right outside your door.
Furthermore, the power needed to exploit this
free fuel is very efficiently used. From one
kilowatt of power, a heat pump can generate
between 3 and 4 kW of heat.

The Vitocal 343-G and Vitocal 333-G were
developed as compact and highly efficient
solutions for new build. In the course of
this development, generously sized heat
exchangers enabled a high COP
(COP = coefficient of performance) of 4.7 to
EN 14511 with brine 0 °C/water 35 °C to be
achieved.
In addition, the seasonal performance factor
could also be maximised. It describes the ratio
between the amount of heat (heating energy)
transferred and input energy (drive energy)
over the course of a full year. The innovative
RCD system (Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic)
played a vital role in the improvement of the
seasonal performance factor. This system
enables a highly precise and rapid control
of the refrigerant circuit via an electronic
expansion valve. The RCD system ensures
that the heat pump operates with optimum
efficiency at every operating point.
In addition, energy saving, high efficiency
DC pumps compliant with Energy Label A
for the brine and heating circuit, ensure very
low consumption costs and therefore a high
seasonal performance factor in all three
compact appliances.
With solar cylinders or natural cooling
Vitocal 343-G is designed for the connection
of a solar thermal system for DHW heating.
A generously sized solar cylinder with a 220 l
capacity and a solar control unit have been
integrated into the appliance for this purpose.
In the compact Vitocal 333-G, a DHW cylinder
with a 170 l capacity ensures a convenient
supply of DHW. To help cool you down on
hot summer days, the Vitocal 333-G is also
available in a version with an integral natural
cooling function.

The compact heat pumps Vitocal 343-G and
Vitocal 333-G are offered as three versions,
i.e. with and without solar thermal connection
and with integral natural cooling function.
DHW cylinders with 170 litre capacity (solar
version with 220 l) are integrated to safeguard
high DHW convenience. At the core of the
appliance is a newly developed high efficiency
heat pump module.
These compact appliances are highly efficient
thanks to the new refrigerant circuit with
electronic expansion valve (EEV) and the
Viessmann-developed RCD (Refrigerant Cycle
Diagnostic) systems plus the standard energysaving DC pumps. This is reflected day by day
and year by year in high seasonal performance
factors and low consumption costs.
The programming unit of the Vitotronic control
unit can be removed from the front of the
appliance and be replaced with an external
programming unit, available as an accessory,
and a dummy cover. A five metre long power
cable enables the external programming
unit to be mounted almost anywhere in a
convenient position on a wall mounting base.

Small footprint
With their space saving designs, the
Vitocal 343-G and Vitocal 333-G are
particularly suitable for anywhere where
space is restricted. The brine and heating
circuit pumps and the 3-way diverter valve are
already integrated inside the compact casing
that completely protects the cooling module/
hydraulic compartment from the outside
environment and, in conjunction with the
new three-dimensional anti-vibration mounts,
minimises operating noise. These compact
heat pumps are some of the quietest in their
category, as they only generate 38 dB(A) at
0/35 °C.

With the Vitocal 300-G, you can utilise sustainable heat stored underground or in ground
water. This heat pump was designed for utmost compactness, so it takes up remarkably
little space: Inside the casing of the BWC/WWC models, the circulation pumps for the
brine circuit and the heating circuit, as well as the 3-way diverter valve, are already
integrated.
The Vitocal 300-G ground source heat pump
is specifically designed for detached houses.
It utilises heat that's right on your doorstep.
What's more, you call the shots, selecting
the output from 6.2 to 117.8 kW, making it
both efficient and effective. So your central
and DHW heating needs will be reliably and
conveniently covered.
Heat from the ground or groundwater
You can choose how you get heat from the
ground with the ground source version. This
is done either via a geothermal probe or
via a geothermal collector laid at a depth of
approx. 1.5 m. In both cases, the heat pump
covers the entire energy demand, even on
colder days. Subject to the location of your
house, it may also be possible to utilise the
latent heat in groundwater. For this, the
Vitocal 300-G is simply converted to operate
as a water/water heat pump – and delivers the
highest COP in this operating mode.
Tightly packed performance
The Vitocal 300-G (type BWC/WWC) proves
its worth through its particularly compact
design. It contains everything Circulation
pumps for brine circuit and heating circuit
including a safety assembly with safety valve,
pressure gauge and air vent valve fitted as
standard. This clever integration minimises
the space required. An electric booster heater
is available as an accessory.
Greater heat demand?
No problem for the Vitocal 300-G
For buildings with a very high heat demand,
the two-stage Vitocal 300-G based on the
master/slave principle is the right choice. It
achieves a heating output of 12.4 to 117.8 kW.
Here, you also have the choice between the

RCD stands for Refrigerant Cycle Diagnostic
system. It continually monitors the refrigerant
circuit within the Vitocal 300-G and, in
conjunction with the electronic expansion
valve, ensuring the highest level of efficiency
at any operating point.
Modular solution for higher heat demand
With six output sizes as a master or slave
version, various combinations can be realised,
precisely matched to the required heat
demand. Because of this flexibility, systems
can be configured so that runtimes match
demand, thus saving you money.
The master module regulates the slave
module. By combining different output
sizes, users have the option of matching the
environmentally responsible heating system
to their own heat demand – as, for example,
in an apartment building – as efficiently as
possible by utilising various modules. There is
also the option to equip the entire system with

a very high heat demand, the two-stage
Vitocal 300-G, based on the master/slave
principle, is the right choice. It can deliver a
heating output from 42.4 to 85.6 kW (brine/
water) or from 56.2 to 117.8 kW (water/
water). You also have the choice between the
groundwater or the ground as your preferred
heat source. Where this output is still not
enough, the cascade function integrated into
the control unit enables output to be raised up
to 471.2 kW (water/water).

The Vitocal 242-G and Vitocal 222-G compact
heat pumps are specifically designed for
detached houses. With their extremely
compact dimensions of hardly more than
0.4 m2 they take up hardly any space. With
integral DHW cylinder, brine and heating
circuit pumps, plus a three-way diverter valve,
these compact appliances are quick and easy
to install. They are offered in two different
versions – the Vitocal 242-G with solar
function and a generously sized DHW cylinder

air source heat pump.
The Vitocal 350-A air source heat pump
with rated heating outputs 10.6 to 18.5 kW
is particularly suitable for modernisation
projects. Thanks to enhanced vapour injection
in the compression process (EVI cycle),
developed by Viessmann, flow temperatures
of up to 65 °C can be achieved – even at
winter outside temperatures. This air source
heat pump can therefore also be used in older
heating systems equipped with radiators.
The Vitotronic 200 heat pump control unit
of the Vitocal 350-A has an integral cascade
function. This means that, in buildings with
a high heat demand, up to four air source
heat pumps can be operated in a cascade.

guaranteeing the highest level of efficiency at every stage with its advanced

Simply taking energy out of the air and
using it for central and DHW heating sounds
rather tempting. However, especially in
winter, i.e. precisely when the demand for
heating energy is high, the outdoor air does
not contain much energy for a heat pump
to extract. However, this is no problem for
the Vitocal 300-A air/water heat pump. It

The Vitocal 200-S utilises affordable energy from the ambient air.
It is suitable for new build and existing buildings. Combination with existing heat sources
is also easily possible.
Heating and cooling system with internal
and external unit
As an alternative the Vitocal 200-S heat pump
is also available as a heating system only
or as a system for heating and cooling. The
Vitocal 200-S utilises the latent heat in the
outdoor air. The weather-resistant external
unit can be sited where required and is easy
to install, even on external walls, thanks
to its compact dimensions. A freestanding
installation next to the building or on a flat roof
is also possible.
As with other heating systems, the internal
unit is sited in a cellar or utility room inside
the building. It is comprised of the hydraulics,
the heat exchanger, a heating circuit pump
and a 3-way diverter valve for a convenient
supply of heating water and DHW. As an
option, a three-stage instantaneous heating
water heater can also be integrated (for type
AWS AC already integrated as standard).
In summer, the Vitocal 200-S, type AWS AC,
can also be used to cool the rooms in the
building. For this, fan convectors or an
underfloor heating system can be used.

Vitocal 160-A: heat pump for DHW heating
The Vitocal 160-A heats DHW whilst saving
energy and costs. As its heat source, it
uses the warm air inside the building that is
always around and is therefore ideally suited
for use anywhere where heat is available
in abundance, e.g. in bakeries. It can be
operated completely independently of other
heat sources.
Compact DHW station utilises
ambient heat
The compact Vitocal 160-A DHW heat
pump is equipped with all the components
necessary for efficient and space-saving
DHW heating. Together with the heat pump
module (output 1.52 kW, COP = 3.54 at 15 °C
air temperature and 45 °C water temperature),
a 285 litre cylinder, a booster heater and
the control unit are all integrated inside a
single casing.

Various programs can be conveniently
selected using the easy-to-use control unit
with its large display. Whether for DHW
heating, constant operation or standby mode
– the various functions can be selected at a
few keystrokes.
Additional benefits of room cooling or
controlled domestic ventilation
The recirculation air heat pump, Vitocal 160-A,
uses air straight from the room in which it
is installed. As an extract air heat pump, it
draws in warm extract air via ducts from other
rooms, e.g. the bathroom, WC and kitchen.
Part of the latent heat in this air is extracted,
raised to a useful temperature level with the
heat pump, and used to heat the DHW.
The recirculating air heat pump then returns
the cooled and dehumidified air to the
installation room. That room can then be used
as a cool larder for groceries.
In case of an extract air heat pump, the cooled
air is routed to the outside via an exhaust
air duct. In conjunction with ventilation air
apertures that ensure the supply of fresh
outdoor air to the living space, the Vitocal 160A becomes the central component of a
controlled domestic ventilation system.
This makes the Vitocal 160-A suitable for
modernisation too.

Lower costs through solar energy
Both versions are available with an integral
indirect solar coil and solar control unit.
Through the connection of up to six square
metres of flat-plate collectors or up to three
square metres of vacuum tube collectors,
the free energy of the sun can also be
used to heat DHW and further reduce the
running costs.
230 V socket is sufficient
The Vitocal 160-A is supplied pre-assembled.
Simply install, connect the water pipes and
condensate drain, and plug into a 230 V power
socket – and the recirculating air heat pump is
ready for operation.

Cooling with heat pumps
The primary function of a heat pump is to provide pleasant and convenient heat, and
reliable DHW heating. However, they can also be used to cool a building.
Imagine a hot summer's day. Would you
switch your heating on? Probably not, unless
you have a Viessmann heat pump. After all,
heating systems don't generally have much to
do in summer – apart from heating DHW. It is
different for heat pumps, as some Viessmann
heat pumps also offer a cooling function as an
additional benefit.
Active or passive cooling
When cooling with a heat pump, you can
choose between two different methods:
Cooling naturally: Natural cooling
While the ground or groundwater is used
in winter to provide energy for heating, in
summer it can be used for natural cooling.
With the natural cooling function, the control
unit only starts the primary pump and heating
circuit pump. This means the relatively hot
water from the underfloor heating system can
transfer its heat in the heat exchanger to the
brine in the primary circuit. This extracts heat
from all rooms that are connected. This makes
natural cooling a particularly energy-efficient
and affordable way to cool buildings.
Passive cooling:
This is where the brine medium or the
groundwater absorbs the energy from the
heating circuit via a heat exchanger and
transfers it outside. This function is also
called natural cooling, as it uses the natural
ambient temperature. Apart from the
control unit and circulation pump, the heat
pump remains switched off.
Active cooling:
For this, the function of the heat pump is
simply reversed. This method of cooling
can be described as "reverse operation".
This means that the refrigerant circuit is
reversed internally or reversal is achieved
by an external changeover of the primary
and secondary circuits. As with a fridge,
cooling is then actively generated by the
heat pump.

NC-Box
NC-Box – energy-efficient and
affordable cooling
The Viessmann NC-Box helps heat pumps to
provide cooling in a completely natural way. In
fact, it's really quite simple. On hot summer
days, the temperatures inside your house are
higher than in the ground or groundwater.
The heat pump control unit then switches
to natural cooling, and uses the ground or
groundwater to dissipate the heat from your
living space.
Saving while cooling
The natural cooling function does not use all
the technology of the heat pump. This means
that, apart from the control unit and circulation
pumps, all other functions remain off. Only
a very small amount of power is therefore
consumed for operation. This makes natural
cooling a particularly energy-efficient and
affordable method for cooling buildings.
The effective thermal insulation of the NC-Box
prevents the formation of condensate.
Everything you need to keep cool
In the Viessmann "Natural Cooling Box", all
components are prefitted. This makes the
thermally insulated box not only compact, but
also particularly simple and quick to install.
With or without mixer
Depending on the sort of cooling needed, the
natural cooling box comes in two different
versions, either with or without mixer. The
integral mixer enables continuous operation
without falling below the dew point.
Active cooling
AC-Box
AC-Box – efficient heating or cooling
The Viessmann AC-Box combines active
cooling and natural cooling in your heat pump
systems, thus making it even more versatile
and convenient. Depending on how cool
you would like your home to be, the system
switches over automatically. If only a low
cooling capacity is required, then natural
cooling is adequate, but if that is no longer
sufficient, active cooling is added.
Keep cool when it gets really hot outside
With active cooling, the compressor
circuit starts to work. However, it does not
provide heating – the internal control unit, in
conjunction with the AC-Box, reverses the
output and input functions and now actively
transfers heat out of the building to the
geothermal probe. Cold water now flows
through the heating circuit itself – cooled
down to 7 °C if required.
Cooling using tiny amounts of energy
With natural cooling, the compressor circuit
is not needed. Only the brine and heating
circuit pumps are operational and utilise the
temperature differential between the rooms
and the ground or groundwater. This means
they cool your home in a particularly costeffective way.
Utilising extracted energy
Incidentally, you can also make direct use
of the heat transferred out of the rooms in
this way, for example for DHW heating or to
heat a swimming pool. This means you can
combine the cooling and heating functions
extremely effectively.

Air quality makes a real difference to the quality of life inside our homes. For this however,
an adequate air change rate is essential. However, modern construction practices do not
make this easy, as buildings are designed to be as airtight as possible, to prevent heat
loss. This is where the Vitovent 300 ventilation system comes in, creating a pleasant,
healthy atmosphere in your room, without wasting energy.
Air is considered to be fresh when its CO2
concentration falls below 0.1 percent by
volume and it is free from odours. Opening
the window to achieve this initially seems
to be the best idea. However, window
ventilation is a bit hit and miss. Either we
ventilate too much and waste heating energy,
or we ventilate too little and then feel tired
and listless. In contrast, the Vitovent 300
domestic ventilation system continuously
replaces the air and removes odours and
noxious substances. The result is a pleasant,
healthy climate.
Prevent mould, protect the building fabric
One of the main causes of mould growth
is humid indoor air. Caution: Not only does
mould look unsightly, it is also unhealthy, both
for yourself and for the fabric of your building.
However, investing in a domestic ventilation
system is cheaper than remedying building
damage caused by fungal growth and mould.
Allergy sufferers can breathe a sigh
of relief
A filtration system, employing an effective
pollen filter (cat. F6), cleans the supply air
of harmful substances. This allows allergy
sufferers to enjoy fresh air too and reducing
the growth of mites and mould fungus is
beneficial for everyone.
Enjoy security and quietness
Vitovent 300 ensures a continuous air change
– so windows can stay closed all year round.
That doesn't just offer improved safety
against burglary, but also keeps out any noise
there may be outside.

Vitovent 300
Ventilating virtually without energy loss
Energy saving is Vitovent 300's trump card.
The powerful heat exchanger recovers more
than 90 percent of the latent heat contained in
the stale air and uses it to heat the incoming
air. Thanks to the very efficient DC motors, for
each 1 kWh of electrical energy expenditure,
15 times more heating energy is recovered.
This means that in a living area of 150 m2
for example, you save around 300 l fuel oil
each year.
Cooling with night air
In winter, the majority of the heat contained
in the extract air is recovered through the
heat exchange function. In summer, the heat
exchanger is completely bypassed via the
integral bypass damper. The temperature
controlled bypass circuit allows cool outdoor
air to enter the rooms at night, thereby
ensuring a pleasant room climate.
The Fastflex flat duct system:
space-efficient and easy to install
The Fastflex system for air distribution is
precisely matched to the Vitovent 300. For
one thing, it makes it easier to install and
set up the domestic ventilation system,
and for another, it also saves space. Two
floors can be supplied simultaneously via a
single installation level. The flat ducts are
so versatile that they can adapt to suit any
structural characteristics and they are also
particularly stable and can be routed below
the screed in the floor insulation.

With the Vitocell DHW cylinders, Viessmann offers you the convenient solution to
supplying your household with hot water – the perfect extension to your new heat pump.
The demand for hot water is completely
different in every household. One factor is
the number of residents and another is their
bathing and showering habits. For example,
several people in one household frequently
go to work and school at the same time, so
lots of hot water needs to be continuously
available for the shower in a short space of
time. Those who prefer a bath will also want
to have enough hot water to fill the tub.
Finally, the DHW cylinder should be able to
deliver sufficient water, if in an apartment
block, hot water is being drawn from more
than one outlet at the same time. The Vitocell
DHW cylinders fulfil these requirements in
every respect and are also robust enough to
