Will the new ZXP Series 3 printer be priced differently than the current
previous model?
No, there is no price change.
Does the new ZXP Series 3 look different than the previous version?
The new printer enclosures have a new updated color scheme that looks similar to the
ZXP Series 7 printer.
What is the logo on the front right side of the new ZXP Series 3
printer?
This logo designates the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature. NFC is a
standards-based, short-range wireless technology that enables convenient shortrange communication between electronic devices. Tapping a NFC enabled
device, such as a smart phone tablet, on the logo will direct the NFC device to a
Zebra web-page with further information on the ZXP Series 3.
Does the new ZXP Series 3 have a new model name?
No, the model name, Zebra ZXP Series 3, will remain the same.
Will there be a change in part numbers for the new ZXP Series 3?
Yes, the new ZXP Series 3 printer will include new part numbers – specifically a “2” will
replace the “0” designation as indicated in the below part number example:

What cards are compatible with the Zebra ZXP Series 3 printer?
Compatible cards include: CR-80 size cards with a thickness 10-40 mil; PVC, PVC
composite, ABS, PET, PET-G and Teslin® Composite, contact and contactless smart
cards.
Can the previous ZXP Series 3 printer be updated to include the
improved card feeder that supports 10-40 mil cards?
No, the previous ZXP Series 3 model cannot be retrofitted with the new card feeder that
supports 10-40 mil cards.
How many cards does the input feeder and output hoppers hold?
The card capacity is as follows:
Card input feeder – 100 cards (30 mil)
Standard card output hopper – 45 cards (30 mil)
External output hopper for smart card and locking options – 50 cards (30 mil)

Yes, the new ZXP Series 3 printer supports new ribbons that are higher image capacity
and eco friendly (see comparison table below). The new ZXP Series 3 printer also
supports the previous ZXP Series 3 “Standard” ribbons.
Can the new high capacity eco ribbons be used on the previous ZXP
Series 3 model?
Yes, but the previous printer model requires a firmware update - available from the
zebra.com website – to support the new ribbons.

Yes, the Zebra ZXP Series 3 is orderable as a single-sided or dual-sided printer. The ZXP
Series 3 dual-sided configuration will print color on both sides of the card through driver
setting. Color printing, on both sides of the card, will reduce the number of images that
can be printed per ribbon cartridge.

Yes, but not over the edge like the ZXP Series 8 retransfer printer.
Can the ZXP Series 3 be upgraded in the field?
The magnetic stripe encoder is not field upgradeable. However, the following options
are field upgradeable.

What connectivity options are available for ZXP Series 3?
The ZXP Series 3 comes standard with USB. 10/100 Ethernet is optional.
How does the ZXP Series 3 printer achieve its fast print speed?
The Zebra ZXP Series 3 card printer employs Zebra’s ZRaster host-based image
processing technology which takes advantage of the increased processing power of
today’s host PC’s to significantly optimize print speed throughput. In addition, the new
Zebra high-performance ribbons are designed specifically for higher print speeds.
What is ZRaster host-based image processing?
ZRaster is PC host-based image processing which takes advantage of the high
performance power found on today’s PC’s enabling faster print speeds and improved
image quality. It is included in the ZXP Series 3 printer driver and SDK for transparent
high performance color and monochrome image rendering.
What information is available via the LCD?
The LCD provides power-on self test data. Press the front panel button and scroll for the
following setting: model number and configuration; Serial Number; firmware version, head
resistance; YX offsets for front and back (if applicable); EC values for front and back;
ribbon type; smart card offsets; IP address; subnet mask; gateway, status – DHCP or
static.
How is the ZXP Series 3 positioned in Zebra’s card printer portfolio?
The ZXP Series 3 is positioned below the ZXP Series 7 as an affordable, compact, easy to
use direct to card printer. The ZXP Series 3 has full encoding capabilities; it can be used
for many applications, but may not be ideal for large batch printing due to the card
capacity.

Yes, ZXP Series 3 is compatible with all editions of CardStudio card design software.
Is the ZXP Series 3 printer compatible with Zebra Virtual PrintWare™
software?
Yes, ZXP Series 3 is compatible with Zebra Virtual PrintWare including PrintMonitor™ and
PrintManager™.
Is software included with the ZXP Series 3 printer?
The Zebra ZXP Series 3 printer does not include software. However, the QuikCard ID
Solution includes a ZXP Series 3 single- or dual-sided printer with or without magnetic
stripe encoding, CardStudio Standard edition card design software, a webcam, one fullcolor ribbon and 200 cards.
What are the supported operating systems?
The ZXP Series 3 has drivers compatible with Microsoft Windows® XP, Windows Vista,
Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 and Windows 8. Check
the latest Driver and Firmware on zebra.com for the most update Windows support.
What drivers do the contact and contactless encoders use?
The ZXP Series 3 contact and contactless encoders are USB PC/SC compliant drivers.
The PC/SC drivers are included in the printer driver executable file. The ZXP Series 3
also supports encoding over Ethernet.

Does the ZXP Series 3 support logical or advanced security features?
No, the ZXP Series 3 does not support advanced security features such as printer driver
host to printer encryption, or ability to restrict or lock the printer to one or more specific
host drivers for added security. These advanced security features are fully supported on
the ZXP Series 7 and Series 8 printers.
How can I get a copy of the SDK documentation and development
tools?
These are available for download at no cost on our website www.zebra.com on the
Software product page. or you can email your request to
Card_SDK_Questions@zebra.com.
What kind of service and support is available for SDK development
tools?
Zebra offers technical support for application developers using the Zebra card printers
SDK. The part number and price are referenced in the service programs section of the
Zebra card printer price list, or you can email your request to
Card_SDK_Questions@zebra.com.
How often should I clean the printer?
Regular cleaning will keep your printer in optimum condition.
Pre-saturated cleaning cards are available for periodic cleaning. The printer should
be cleaned with these cards every 5000 panels or 1,000 cards.
The print head should be carefully wiped using the Swab every 5000 panels or
1000 cards or if particulate build up occurs.

Currently, hardware and software support for the ZXP Series 3 printer is provided out of
the Zebra U.S. support center. ZXP Series 3 service and support for Latin America will be
