2.1
IMPORTANT__________________________________________________________
The Ransomes FAIRWAY 250.305 and 405 are Diesel engined self propelled Reel mowers. The hydraulic
systems are for the traction drive, the cutting unit lift and the lower and cutting unit drives and steering.
IMPORTANT: Do the maintenance indicated in this manual to make sure that the quality of cut is kept at a high
level.
This SAFETY AND OPERATORS MANUAL is part of the machine and must stay with the machine always.
Suppliers of both original and used machines need to keep the documentation that comes with the machine.
You must use the machine to cut the grass only and not for any other purpose. Compliance with the conditions of
operation, service and repair specified by the manufacturer, are understood to be part of the correct use.
ALL operators MUST read through this manual and understand the Safety Instructions, controls, lubrication and
maintenance procedures.
Make sure that you obey all safety and road traffic regulations.
You must not make any changes to the machine that the manufacturer does not approve. This type of change
can release the manufacturer from the liability for any damage or injury.
Discard worn parts, taking note of the environmental result, use the systems available in the country where the
machine is used. When the machine is at its end of life, there are guidelines in this manual for the removal of the
machine from use.
Use only Ransomes Jacobsen Genuine spare parts to make sure that European conformity is controlled.

2.3GUIDELINES FOR THE DISPOSAL OF SCRAP PRODUCTS _____________________
2.3.1 DURING SERVICE LIFE _______________________________________________
Used oil, oil filters and engine coolant are hazardous materials. Recommended procedures must be followed for their
safe removal.
If a fluid leaks, contain the spill to make sure that the leak does not flow into the ground or drainage system. Follow the
local laws to make sure that leaks are controlled safely.
The maintenance procedures in this manual make sure that the damage that the machine can cause in the local
environment is controlled safely.
When the machine completes its full service life, the following actions must be taken.

END OF SERVICE LIFE _______________________________________________
These guidelines must be used with applicable Health, Safety and Environmental laws. Always use the approved local
waste disposal and agencies for recycled materials.

Park the machine in a location to use all of the necessary lifting equipment.
Use correct tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and take instruction from the technical
manuals applicable to the machine.
Remove and store correctly

Disassemble the structure of the machine and refer to the technical manuals where applicable. Give
attention to parts that have mechanical pressure or tension applied to the part in the machine, including
springs.
Items that continue to have a service life must be separated and returned to the local store.
Items that are worn must be separated into the material groups and removed according to the agencies
for recycled materials that are available. Common types are as follows:

If an item is not easily separated into different material groups, the material must be added to the

Do not burn discarded materials.
Change the machinery records to show that the machine is not in service and is discarded. Supply this serial number to
Ransomes Jacobsen Warranty Department to close their records.

3.1 HOW TO OPERATE SAFELY __________________________________________________
! WARNING
EQUIPMENT OPERATED INCORRECTLY OR WITHOUT TRAINING CAN BE DANGEROUS.
Know the location and correct operation of controls. Operators without experience must receive instruction from
another person that knows the correct operation of the equipment before you operate the mower.
Only use parts, accessories and attachments approved by Jacobsen.
3.1.1
Safe Operation
a
Read the Operator’s Manual and other training material. If the operator or technician can not read this
manual, the owner is responsible to describe this material to the operators and technicians. Manuals in
additional languages may be available on the Jacobsen or RansomesJacobsen website.
a
Read all of the instructions for this mower carefully. Know the controls and the correct operation of the
equipment.
b
Children or persons who do not understand these instructions must not use the mower. The local
regulations can limit the age of the operator.
c
Never use a mower near persons, including children or animals.
d
Remember that the operator or owner is responsible for accidents or hazards that occur to other persons or
their property.
e
Never carry passengers.
f
Never allow persons to operate or service the mower or its attachments without correct instructions.
g
Do not operate equipment while tired, sick or after you use alcohol or drugs.
3.1.2
Preparation
a
When you operate the mower, wear correct clothing, slip resistant work shoes or boots, work gloves, hard
hat, safety glasses and hearing protection. Long hair, loose clothing or jewelry can be caught in moving
parts.
b
Do not operate the equipment with the Interlock System disconnected or the system does not operate
correctly. Do not disconnect or prevent the operation of any switch.
c
Never operate equipment that is not in correct order or without decals, guards, shields, deflectors or other
protective devices fastened. When you mow with a side discharge deck, DO NOT operate the cutting unit
without the discharge chute installed.
d
Inspect the mower before you operate the mower. Check the tire pressure, engine oil level, the radiator
coolant level and the air cleaner indicator. Fuel is flammable. Use caution when you add the fuel to the
mower.
e
Operate the mower in daylight or in good artificial light. Use caution when you operate the mower during
bad weather. Never operate the mower with lightning in the area.
f
Inspect the area to select the accessories and attachments that are needed to correctly and safely do the
job. Only use parts, accessories and attachments approved by Jacobsen.
g
Be careful of holes in the terrain and other hazards that are not visible.
h
Inspect the area where the equipment is operated. Remove all objects you can find before you operate. Be
careful of obstructions above the ground (low tree limbs, electrical wires) and also underground obstacles
(sprinklers, pipes, tree roots). Enter a new area carefully. Look for possible hazards.
i
Inspect the cutting system before you start the mower. Make sure the blades are free to rotate. When you
rotate one blade, other blades can rotate.

3.1.3
Operation
a
Never operate the engine without enough ventilation or in an enclosed area. The carbon monoxide in the
exhaust fumes can increase to dangerous levels.
b
Never carry passengers. Keep other persons or animals away from the mower.
c
Disengage all drives and engage the parking brake before you start the engine. Only start the engine with
the operator in the seat. Never start the engine with persons near the mower.
d
Keep your legs, arms and body inside the operator compartment while the mower is in operation. Keep
your hands and feet away from the cutting units.
e
Do not use on the slopes greater than the safe slope limit for the equipment.
f
To guard against over turning or loss of control:
–
Operate the mower up and down on the face of slopes (vertically), but not across the face (horizontally).
–
Do not start or stop suddenly on slopes.
–
Decrease the speed when you operate on slopes or when you must turn. Use caution when you change
direction. Turf condition can change the mower stability.
–
Use caution when you operate the mower near drop-offs, ditches or embankments.
–
Be careful of holes in the terrain and other hazards that are not visible.
g
When you drive in the reverse direction, look behind you and down to make sure the path is clear. Do not
operate the cutting units when you drive in the reverse direction.
h
Use caution when you go near corners, trees or other objects that can prevent a clear view.
i
Equipment must meet the current regulations to be driven on the public roads.
j
Before you move across or operate on the paths or roads, turn off the PTO switch, lift the mowers and
travel at decreased speed. Look for traffic.
k
Stop the blades when the mower is on any surface that is not grass.
l
Do not release the cut grass in the direction of persons or allow persons near the mower while in operation.
m
Do not operate the mower with damaged guards or without safety devices in position.
n
Do not change the engine governor setting or over-speed the engine. Never change or tamper with
adjusters that are closed with a seal for the engine speed control.
o
Before you leave the operator compartment, for any reason:
–
Disengage all the drives and lower attachments to the ground.
–
Engage the parking brake.
–
Stop the engine and remove the key.
p
When you hit an object or mower starts to cause the vibration that is not normal, inspect the mower for
damage and make repairs.
q
Decrease the throttle setting before you stop the engine.
r
Do not use this equipment for uses that the mower was not made for.

3.1.4
ROPS
a
The ROPS is a safety device. Keep the ROPS in the vertical and locked position. Always use the seat belt
when you operate the mower. Make sure the seat belt can be released quickly in an emergency.
b
Only operate the mower with the ROPS in the folded position on flat and level surfaces when necessary.
Do not operate the mower with the ROPS in the folded position on slopes, near sharp edges or near water.
There is no roll over protection with the ROPS in the folded position.
c
Check for clearance before you drive below objects. Do not contact tree branches, electrical wires or other
objects with the ROPS.
d
Do not use the seat belt with the ROPS in the folded position.
e
Inspect the ROPS for damage. Keep the ROPS hardware fastened.
f
Do not weld, drill, change or bend the ROPS. Replace a damaged ROPS. Do not try to correct a damaged
ROPS.
g
Do not remove the ROPS from the mower.
h
Jacobsen must approve any changes to the ROPS.
3.1.5
Safe Handling of Fuels
a
The fuel and the fuel vapors are flammable. Use caution when you add the fuel to the mower. The fuel
vapors can cause an explosion.
b
Never use the containers that are not approved to keep or transfer fuel.
c
Never keep the mower or fuel containers near an open flame or any device that can cause the ignition of
fuel or fuel vapors.
d
Never fill the fuel containers inside a vehicle or on a truck or trailer with a plastic liner. Always put the fuel
container on the ground away from your vehicle before you fill the container.
e
Refuel the mower before you start the engine. When the engine is in operation or while the engine is hot,
never remove the fuel cap or add fuel to the mower.
f
Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke when you add fuel. Extinguish all types of ignition.
g
The fuel nozzle must touch the rim of the fuel tank when you add fuel to the mower. Do not use a device to
lock the fuel nozzle in the open position.
h
Do not over fill the fuel tank. Leave at least 1 inch (25 mm) below the filler neck.
i
Always tighten the fuel tank cap and container cap after you add fuel.
j
If the fuel spills on your clothing, change your clothing immediately.
3.1.6
Maintenance and Storage
a
Before you clean, adjust or repair this equipment, push PTO switch to the OFF position, lower the cutting
unit to the ground, engage the parking brake, stop the engine and remove the key.
b
Make sure the mower is parked on a solid and level surface.
c
Never work on a mower that is lifted only by the jack. Always use the jack stands.
d
Never allow persons to service the mower or its attachments without correct instructions.
e
When the mower is parked, put into storage or left without an operator, lower the cutting device unless a
positive mechanical lock is used.
When you put the mower on a trailer or put the mower in storage, close the fuel valve. Do not keep fuel near
flames or drain the fuel inside a building.
f
Disconnect the battery before you service the mower. Always disconnect the negative battery cable before
the positive battery cable. Always connect the positive battery cable before the negative battery cable.

Charge the battery in an area with good airflow. The battery can release hydrogen gas that is explosive. To
prevent an explosion, keep any device that can cause sparks or flames away from the battery.
h
Disconnect the battery charger from the power supply before you connect or disconnect the battery charger
to the battery. Wear protective clothing and use insulated tools when you service the battery.
i
Be careful and wear gloves when you check or service the cutting unit blades. Replace any damaged
blades, do not try to correct a damaged blade.
j
Keep your hands and feet away from parts that move. Do not adjust the mower with the engine in
operation, unless the adjustment needs the engine in operation.
k
Carefully release the pressure from components with stored energy.
l
To prevent injury from the hot, high pressure oil, never use your hands to check for oil leaks. Use the paper
or cardboard to find leaks.
m
The hydraulic fluid pressure can have enough force to enter your skin. If hydraulic fluid has entered your
skin, a doctor must remove the hydraulic fluid surgically within a few hours or gangrene can occur.
n
When you service the hydraulic system, make sure the hydraulic fittings, tubes and hoses are tightened to
the correct torque. Make sure the hydraulic system is in good condition before you start the engine.
o
Keep the mower and the engine clean.
p
Allow the engine to become cool before storage and always remove the ignition key.
q
Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to make sure the equipment is in safe condition.
r
Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Replace damaged or worn decals. Only use parts, accessories
and attachments approved by Jacobsen.
s
To decrease the fire hazard, remove materials that burn from the engine, muffler, battery tray and fuel tank
area.
t
Disconnect the battery and controller connectors before you weld on this mower.
3.1.7
When you Put the mower on a trailer
a
Be careful when you load or unload the mower on a trailer. Trailer must be wider than the mower and can
carry the weight of the mower.
b
Use a full-width ramp to load or unload the mower on a trailer.
c
Use straps, chains, cables or ropes to fasten the mower to the trailer. Both front and rear straps must be
sent down and toward sides of trailer.
Make sure that all latches are correctly fastened.

can indicate work procedures that are not safe.
IMPORTANT:
Only drive the machine at road speed when you are on a highway. You must not select road speed on grass
areas or rough roads and gravel tracks.
Some illustrations in this manual can show shields, guards or plates removed for clearness. This equipment must
not be operated without these devices correctly fastened in position.
WARNING
The Interlock System on this mower prevents the starting of the mower unless a.) The parking brake is
Engaged. b.) The mow switch is in the OFF position, c.) The traction pedal is in the Neutral position. d) The
operator is in the seat. The system stops the engine when the operator leaves the seat a.) without the parking
brake engaged or b.) the mow switch is not in the OFF position. NEVER operate the mower unless the
Interlock System is working.
WARNING
1. Before leaving the operator’s position for any reason:

Disengage all drives.
Lower all implements to the ground.
Engage parking brake.
Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.

clean, adjust, or service the machine.
3. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons and animals.
4. Never carry any passengers.
5. Never operate the equipment without a correctly fastened grass deflector in position.
By following all instructions in this manual, you increase the life of your machine and keep its maximum
performance. Adjustments and maintenance must always be done by an approved technician.

the latest methods to service this equipment and can give that service.

The green lamp Illuminates when the ignition switch is
turned clockwise to the Preheat position. When the lamp
turns off, the engine is ready to start.

Indicates the temperature of the engine.

HYDRAULIC OIL OVER TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP ________________
The red lamp Illuminates when the temperature of the
hydraulic oil reaches a preset level. If the lamp
illuminates, stop the vehicle and disengage the cutting
units. Apply the parking brake and stop the engine.

CHARGING WARNING LAMP ________________________________________
The red lamp illuminates when the ignition is turned on
and turns off when the engine starts.
If the light illuminates while the engine is in operation, the
fan belt has moved or is broken. The light can indicate a
fault in the electrical system. STOP THE VEHICLE
IMMEDIATELY.
6.2.E.
ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP _____________________________
The red lamp illuminates when the ignition is turned on
and turns off when the engine starts.
If the light illuminates while the engine is in operation,
the engine oil pressure has fallen to a level that is not
safe. STOP THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. Check the
level of oil in the sump and fill to a safe level. Check the
oil-pressure sender switch. Continued operation with the
light illuminated can cause damage to the engine.

FUEL GAUGE _____________________________________________________
The fuel gauge is found to the left of the engine
temperature gauge. The fuel gauge indicates the
quantity of fuel in the vehicle.

STARTER KEY SWITCH __________________________________________
Turn the starter key (G) clockwise to the ‘Preheat' (No. 2)
position to increase the temperature of the glow plugs.
When the green warning lamp turns off, turn the starter
key clockwise to the 'start' (No. 3) position. When you
start the engine, release the key and allow to return to the
‘on’ (No. 1) position.

THROTTLE CONTROL LEVER______________________________________
Move the lever (B) away from the operator to increase
the engine speed and toward the operator to decrease
the engine speed.
NOTE: Make sure that you always operate the engine at
full speed.

ENGINE OVER TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP AND TEST SWITCH ___
a)
This switch illuminates when the engine
temperature reaches 105°C or when engine is
running and the switch is depressed.
b)
When illuminated a continuous alarm will sound,
the cutter decks will stop. If this occurs, reduce the
engine speed to idle for five minutes before stopping
to resolve the problem.

CUTTING UNIT SWITCHES ________________________________________
When you cut, make sure that the speed limiter is set to
the mow position. Press the bottom of the rocker switch
(G) to activate the joystick. Lower the cut reels and press
the foot switch (A) to start the cut reel rotation. Push the
top of rocker switch to stop the cut reel rotation and
deactivate the joystick. When the cut units are lifted, the
rotation of the reels automatically stops.

PARKING BRAKE SWITCH SERIES JN, KD, JU, KE ____________________
When the engine is running the Parking brake is applied by
depressing the switch. The Parking Brake is applied
automatically when the engine is stopped.
If the operator leaves the seat for 5 seconds the cutting units will
stop and if the transmission pedal is operated the engine will
stop.
To release the parking brake slide the orange button and
depress the rocker switch.

6.3
STEERING WHEEL RAKE ADJUSTMENT ______________________________
The steering wheel is adjustable for rake. The clamp
release knob (A) is found on the left of the control
console. To adjust, turn the clamp knob anticlockwise to
release the steering wheel. Move the steering wheel
backward or forward to get the correct setting. Turn the
clamp knob clockwise to lock the steering wheel in
position.
6.4
TRACTION FOOT PEDAL ___________________________________________
To move the machine forward press the front of the foot
pedal (A). To reverse the machine press the back end of
the foot pedal. When the pedal is released, the pedal
returns to the Neutral position.
The Neutral Latch (B) has two functions:
1.
The engine will not start when the Neutral Latch is
pressed.
2.
The Neutral Latch must be pressed when the
traction foot pedal is pressed or the traction pedal will
not operate the engine.

SPEED LIMITER ___________________________________________________
To operate the speed limiter (A), rotate the speed limiter
button to a position under the traction foot pedal. When in
position under the traction pedal, the machine can not
move faster than the speed necessary to cut the grass.
When the pedal is moved into a position away from the
foot pedal, the machine can move at road speed.
6.6
PARKING BRAKE (MECHANICAL) SERIES JZ, JN, JP ____________________
To apply the parking brake, push the pedal (A) forward
until the brake locks. To release the parking brake, push
the pedal forward and pull the lever (B) toward the driver.
Later 305/405 - fitted with POCLAIN front wheel motorshave a Park Brake Switch, 4WD in Reverse Switch and
an Over Temp Alarm Switch.
6.7
PARKING BRAKE RELEASE VALVE SERIES JN, KD, JU, KE ______________
The Parking Brake Release Valve is situated under
the seat plate, on the right hand side. It is used to
release the parking brake when the engine is not
running
The Parking brake can be released by rotating the
handwheel (A) fully clockwise after releasing lock
wheel (B) and using the hand pump (C) to create
sufficient pressure to release the brakes (50 to 60
strokes should give 90seconds of brake release).
When complete rotate handwheel (A)
counterclockwise fully and lock using handwheel
(B).

Releasing the brakes in this way must only be
used to recover the vehicle a short distance.

NOTE: The joystick will not operate unless the mow
switch (see 6.13 (item G)) is turned on.
The joystick can move in 4 directions (2-Axis) A, B, C

When switch 'G' is held in position 'F', units six and seven lift together.
When switch 'G' is in position 'E', units six and seven are disconnected and any additional movements of the
joystick can control only the units 1 to 5.

HYDRAULIC LIFT LEVER (FAIRWAY 250 AND 305) ______________________
The cutting units are lifted and lowered by the control
lever (A) on the right hand side of the operators seat.
The control lever is operated as follows:
To lift: Move the lever backward and hold in position until
the units are at the needed height.
To lower: Move the lever forward and hold in this
position, the units lower to ground level. The lever
automatically returns to the neutral position on release.
NOTE: When any unit is moved out of work the cutting
unit blades do not rotate when lowered until the foot
switch is operated.

UNIT COUNTERBALANCE CONTROL________________________________________
The driver can change the ground pressure of the cutting
units within preset limits.
To decrease the ground pressure, the handwheel (A) on
the right of the operator's seat is turned clockwise. The
decreased ground pressure of the cutting unit improves
the ability of the vehicle to drive on a slope.
To increase the ground pressure, the handwheel on the
right of the operator's seat is turned anticlockwise. The
increased ground pressure improves the movement of
the cutting unit over ground that is not level. When you
cut on level ground, the normal setting is in the center
between the maximum and minimum positions.
6.11
VARIABLE CYLINDER SPEED________________________________________
To adjust the speed of rotation of the cutting cylinders,
the handwheel (A) on the left of the operator is used. In
normal grass conditions, the cylinder speed must be set
to the maximum level. To cut a surface that has very long
grass, the cylinder speed must be decreased below the
maximum level to get good results.
To cut a surface that has short, dry grass, the cylinder
speed must be decreased to prevent damage to the
cylinder and bottom blade. Rotate the hand wheel
clockwise to increase the cylinder speed. Rotate the
hand wheel anticlockwise to decrease the cylinder
speed.
6.12
BACKLAPPING LEVER _____________________________________________
The direction of the cutting reel rotation is adjustable and
can operate in three positions:
To cut the grass, move the reel lever forward (A).

7.1 DAILY INSPECTION ____________________________________________________
CAUTION
The Inspection Must Be Done Each day
When The Engine Is Turned Off And All
Fluids Are Cold. Lower The Cutter
Equipment To The Ground, Engage the
Parking Brake, Stop the Engine And
Remove the Ignition Key.
1.
Do a visual inspection of the vehicle and look for indication of wear, loose hardware. Check for any
components that are not included on the machine or damaged. Check for fuel and oil leaks to make sure
that all connections are tight. Make sure that all hoses and tubes are in good condition.
2.
Check the fuel supply, radiator coolant level, crankcase oil level and air cleaner is clean. All fluids must be
at the full mark with the engine cold.
3.
Make sure all cutting units are adjusted to the same height of cut.
4.
Check all tyres for the correct pressure.
5.
Test the operator presence and safety interlock system.

7.2 OPERATOR PRESENCE AND SAFETY INTERLOCK SYSTEM _________________
1.
The operator presence and safety interlock system will not allow the engine to start unless the neutral latch
is released. The traction pedal and the cut unit must be turned off. The system also stops the engine if the
operator leaves the seat with the cutting equipment engaged or the neutral latch engaged.
WARNING
Do Not Operate The Equipment With
The Operator Presence And Safety
Interlock System Disengaged Or When
The Equipment Has Defects. Do Not
Disconnect Or Bypass Any Switch.
2.
Do each of the following tests to make sure that the operator presence and safety interlock system
operates correctly. If any of the tests fail, stop the test and have the system inspected and repaired as
shown below:

The engine does not start in test 1;
The engine does start during tests 2 or 3.
The engine continues to run during test 4.
3.
Refer to the chart below for each test and follow the check () sign across the chart. Turn off the engine
between each test.
Test 1: Shows the normal start procedure. The operator must be in the driver seat and the pedal neutral
latch must be released. The operators feet must be away from the pedals, with the mower engagement
device turned off. The engine must start correctly.
Test 2: The engine must not start if the mower engagement device is turned on.
Test 3: The engine must not start if the neutral latch (traction pedal) is pressed.
Test 4: Start the engine with the normal procedure, then turn mower engagement device on and move
your weight from the seat.

OPERATION
7.3 OPERATING PROCEDURE _____________________________________________
1.
You must not start the engine without the operator in the seat on the tractor.
CAUTION
To Prevent Injury, Always Wear The
Safety Glasses, Leather Work Shoes Or
Boots, A Hard Hat And Ear Protection.
2.
Do not operate the tractor and attachments with loose or damaged components. All components must be
included on the tractor. To get the best results, grass must be cut in dry conditions.
3.
First cut in a test area so that you completely understand the operation of the tractor and controls.
4.
Inspect the area and find the safest procedure for the vehicle. Check the height of the grass, the type of
terrain and the condition of the surface. Each area condition needs the applicable adjustments and
precautions.
5.
You must not direct the cut material toward persons near the machine. When the vehicle is in operation, do
not allow persons to stand near to the machine. The owner/operator is responsible for injuries caused to
persons near the machine and any damage to their property.
6.
Be careful when you cut surfaces that are near to gravel areas (roadway, parking areas, cart paths).
Stones released from the equipment can cause injuries to persons and damage the equipment.
CAUTION
Remove All Dangerous Material From
The Area Before You Cut The Grass.
Enter A New Area Carefully And Always
Operate At Speeds That Allow You To
Control The Mower Safely.
7.
When you move across the roads or paths, disengage the cutter motors and lift the equipment. Check for
the traffic when you drive on the roads.
8.
If you hit an obstruction or if the machine causes vibration that is not normal, stop and inspect the
equipment for damage immediately. Repair damaged equipment before operation is continued.

7.5 OPERATION OF THE MACHINE _________________________________________
Read the Safety Instructions.
BEFORE YOU OPERATE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Check and adjust the tyre pressures. If necessary, see section 4.2 Specification.
If necessary, add diesel fuel to the tank.
Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is not correct, fill the tank to the correct level.
Check the radiator coolant level. If the oil level is not correct, fill the tank to the correct level (use 50% antifreeze solution).
Make sure you understand the information contained in the previous sections.
7.6 STARTING THE ENGINE _______________________________________________
To start an engine that is cold, use the procedure shown below.
1.
Make sure that the FWD/ REV foot pedal is in Neutral position and the mow switch is turned off. The
throttle must be in a center position.
2.
Turn the ignition switch to position No.2 and hold until the glow plug light turns off (5-10 sec.)
3.
Turn the ignition key clockwise to the start position and operate the starter motor until the engine starts. To
start the engine takes 3 to 5 seconds.
4.
When the engine starts, release the key immediately. The key must return to the RUN position.
5.
If the engine does not start, turn on the Preheat switch to hear the glow plugs and try again.
NOTES:
•
If the engine does not start after two tries, wait 20 seconds and try again.
•
You must not run the starter motor for longer than 30 seconds or the motor can fail.
•
When the engine is warm, the engine starts without the Preheat function.
7.7 DRIVING ____________________________________________________________
•

Release the brake. Make sure the parking brake is completely released before you move in a forward or
reverse direction.
Forward - Carefully press the top of the FWD/REV foot pedal to reach the ground speed that you need.
Reverse - Carefully press the bottom of the FWD/REV foot pedal to reach the ground speed that you need.
To stop - Carefully return the FWD/REV foot pedal to the Neutral position.
To stop the vehicle on a slope it can be necessary to apply the reverse traction. The 305/405 Models
feature 4WD in reverse, operated by a rocker switch on the control panel - see Chapter 6 - Controls
NOTES:
•
Use complete foot to operate both forward and reverse.
•
Do not press the pedal suddenly–always operate slowly and carefully. Do not move the pedal from forward
to reverse quickly.
•

7.8 MOWING _____________________________________________________________
1.
Release any devices that lock the cutting units and lower the cutting units with the joysticks.
2.
Make sure that the speed limiter is set in the mow position. To cut at a higher speed can be dangerous and
can change the quality of ground surface that you cut.
3.
To engage the cutting mechanism, press the lower half of cutting unit switch, found on the control panel.
Operate the foot switch to the left of the steering tower.
4.
Release the parking brake and drive in a forward direction.
NOTE: Always set the throttle to full engine revs. for mowing, even when the grass is heavy. When the engine
cannot give enough power, decrease the forward speed and decrease the pressure on the FWD/REV foot pedal.
7.9 TO STOP THE ENGINE _________________________________________________
1.
Disengage the drive to the cutting units with the cutting unit switch.
2.
Return the forward / reverse foot pedal to the Neutral position.
3.
Set the parking brake.
4.
Move the throttle control lever to the SLOW position.
IMPORTANT: A turbocharged engine must run in Neutral position for five minutes before the engine is turned
off.
5.
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
7.10 UNBLOCKING CUTTING UNITS __________________________________________
1.
Turn off the cutting unit drive, lift the cutter equipment from the work position and move the machine to flat
level ground.
2.
Turn off the engine and remove the ignition key.
3.
Use a piece of wood and Personal Protective Equipment e.g. eye protection and gloves to remove the
blockage. Rotate the reel with a spanner on the hexagon drive on the end of the reel opposite to the drive.
4.
Make sure that blades are not damaged. When blades are damaged, the blades must be replaced or
repaired.
5.
Start the engine and run the cutting units to make sure that the units operate correctly.

7.11 BACKLAPPING _______________________________________________________
This mower has the ability to allow the reels to be driven in a reverse direction to sharpen the blade on the reels.
•
Backlapping is a procedure which grinds the reel to the bedknife with the unit mounted on the mower.
•
To remove a large amount of metal from the cutting unit it must be reground on a grinding machine.
•
Before you backlap the reels, the manager of the machine must calculate the level of risk to make sure that
the procedure is safe.
•
Backlapping must be done by approved personnel.
•
You must not apply grinding paste to the reel until it has stopped, the engine is turned off and the parking
brake is applied.
•
When you apply grinding paste, the reel must be rotated by a piece of wood and not with your hand.
•
Put the reels in the most accessible position to apply the grinding paste.
•
When you apply the grinding paste the driver must return to the seat, engage the related controls and run
the reels in reverse direction.
•
When you have ground a sharp edge on the blade, turn off the mower and remove any remaining grinding
paste. Set the reel to run in a forward direction and return the vehicle controls to the normal cut positions.

PROCEDURE
1.
Apply a level layer of grinding paste to the full length
of each blade of the reel.
2.
Turn the Reel Speed Control knob (D) in a
counterclockwise direction to allow the reels to rotate
at their slowest speed. See section 6.9. ‘Reel Speed
Control’.
3.
Set the backlap lever to position B see section 6.10
to the backlap position.
4.
Start the engine and set the throttle to a low neutral
speed. Turn the cutting unit switch (PTO) to the ‘On’
position.
5.
Slowly turn the Reel Speed Control knob (E) in a
clockwise direction to the correct reel rotation speed.
The reel must rotate at a slow speed that will not
remove the grinding paste from the blades.

When all the blades on the reel are sharp, stop the
engine and turn the cutting unit switch to the ‘off’
position. Set the backlap switch to the ‘OFF’ position
and turn the Reel Speed Control knob (E) clockwise.
NOTE
•
To make sure that the reel rotates correctly make sure that the Reel Speed Control is completely closed.
7.
Clean all of the grinding paste from the blades. When the blades are cleaned and dry, apply a light layer of
oil to the cutting edges to prevent rust.
8.
When complete the backlapping procedure, the reel to bedknife adjustment must be made again.
7.12 TRANSPORTING______________________________________________________
Transport speed is for highway use only. Never select transport speed or 2 wheel drive off road. Transport
in 2 wheel drive only.
Make sure that the cutting units are held in the lifted position with the safety catches engaged.
1.
Start the engine and set the throttle lever to full speed position.
2.
Release the parking brake and after ensuring that the pedal control lever is in the transport position, press
the upper part of the foot pedal. The machine will move in a forward direction.
3.
Continue to push down on the foot until the desired speed of the machine is reached.
The foot should always be kept firmly on the pedal to maintain full control of the drive pedal.

7.12.2 TRANSPORTING ON A TRAILER OR FLATBED ___________________________

7.13 MOWING ON SLOPES __________________________________________________
The vehicle is made to have good traction and to have good balance. Drive carefully when you drive on a
gradient. If you drive on the wet grass, the traction and steering control of the machine are decreased.

To Make Sure That The Vehicle Does Not Turn
Over, The Safest Method To Drive On A Slope
Is To Move Vertically. You Must Not Drive
Across The Face Horizontally. Travel At A
Slow Speed And Do Not Make The Turns That

Check Engine Oil Level
Check the engine oil level before you start or at least five
minutes after you stop the engine.
(a) Park the machine on level ground,
remove the dipstick (D), clean with a
cloth and replace in position.
(b) Remove the dipstick (D) again and
check the oil level. The oil must be
between the two level indicators (E) on
the dipstick.
Change Engine Oil
(a) Start the engine to increase the temperature, then
turn off the engine. Remove oil drain plug from the
bottom of the crankcase and clean with a cloth.
(b) Drain engine oil into a container.
(c) Replace the drain plug (A) and fill the engine with the
correct quantity and grade of oil through the filler (B).

8.3 ENGINE: FAN BELT ____________________________________________________
Check And Adjust The Fan Belt
The fan belt tension is adjusted to prevent the stress on the
alternator bearings and to prevent movement on the
alternator pulley. Use the procedure shown below to check
the belt tension at the center of the belt between crank shaft
and alternator pulleys.

Loosen the alternator bolt (A) and the pivot bolt below
the alternator.
Move the alternator to tighten or loosen the belt. A
deflection of 7 to 9 mm is needed at the center (B)
with a load 10Kgf (98N/22lbs) for a new belt. A
deflection of 8 to 10mm is needed for a used belt.
Tighten the bolts.

8.4 ENGINE COOLANT ____________________________________________________
Check The Engine Coolant Level
(a) The level of coolant in a cold expansion tank must be
between the MAX and MIN level indicators.
(b) If you need to fill the tank, remove the plastic cap and
fill with the correct anti-freeze mixture (see section
8.1).
(c) Replace the plastic cap.
How To Change Coolant
(a) To drain coolant, open the drain valve on the engine
block (A) and remove the hose from radiator. Drain
the engine oil into a container.
(b) Close the drain valve on engine block (A) and put
the hose on to the radiator. Make sure all the hose
clips are tight.
(c) Fill the cooling system with the correct anti-freeze
mixture, see section 8.1. Fill system through the
expansion tank.

(d) The level of coolant in a cold expansion tank must
be between the MAX and MIN level indicators.
(e) Run the engine for approximately 5 minutes or until the thermostat opens.
(f) Check the level of coolant in expansion tank. Fill the tank if more coolant is needed.

Change The Hydraulic Oil

Remove the drain plug from the bottom of Hydraulic
tank and clean the plug with a cloth (A(Fig.4).
Allow the tank to drain and replace the plug.
Fill the tank with approximately 38 litres of SAE 10W30 Oil through one of the brass plugs (B(Fig.5).
Fill the Hydraulic tank with oil to half way up the view
tube. (A(Fig.5)).

If you open the closed hydraulic transmission circuit, you
need to fill the circuit with oil before the circuit is used again.
When you fill the hydraulic tank, the oil must be clean. The
hydraulic oil must go through a 25micron filter before the oil
enters the tank.

Clean the filter canister and housing to remove any

If you have any problems with the hydraulic system, check the hydraulic pressures with the service ports that are
supplied.
All tests must be done with the hydraulic oil at the normal temperature of the engine, unless specified at a different
temperature.

Water Separator
Damage can occur in the fuel injection system if the water is
not removed from the fuel.
1.
Turn the engine off. Open vent (A) at top of water
separator.
2.
Open the drain valve (B) at bottom of water
separator to allow any water to drain.
3.
If there is water in the separator, the water drains
before the fuel. When fuel drains from the valve (B),
close the valve. Close the vent (A).
NOTE: If you do not drain the water from the separator, the performance of the fuel filter is decreased.
How To Bleed Air From The Fuel System (Fig.11)
1.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not
start the engine).
2.
Open air vent (A) on side of injection pump to
release the air.
3.
Tighten the air vent.
4.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

How To Clean The Air Filter

Lift the engine cover.
Remove the end cap of air filter cartridge.
Remove the loose dirt from the filter element with
compressed air. Work from the clean to dirty side
with compressed air at a maximum of 6 bar, with the
nozzle 5 cm from the filter element.
Fit the filter element back into the machine and press
tightly against the rear shoulder.
Replace the end cap and fasten in position with clips.
Change air filter
(a) Lift the engine cover.
(b) Remove the end cap of air filter cartridge.
(c) Remove all the dust or dirt on the filter.
(d) Remove the filter element (A). Pull the filter straight and tightly.
(e) Install a new filter element. Press tightly against the rear shoulder.
(f) Replace the end cap and fasten in position with clips.

Normal Service Procedures.
•
Confirm the correct operation of the safety interlock switches (e.g. the seat switch)

Make sure that all nuts and bolts are tightened to the correct level.

Visually inspect for hydraulic leaks.
•
Make sure that there is no dirt in the engine bay.

Keep the tyre pressures at correct level (see section 4).

Follow the engine maintenance procedures recommended by the manufacturer.

If the adjusters are removed from the machine, the adjuster must be half filled with gear oil
EP90.
HYDRAULIC MOTOR DRIVE SHAFT (EVERY 400 HOURS)
Lower all cutting units down to ground level. Before you leave the drive position, stop the engine and make sure
all moving parts have stopped. Apply the brakes and disengage all drives. Remove the starter key.
To remove the direct-drive hydraulic motor from the cutting unit, remove the nuts and washers that hold the motor
to the bearing housing studs. Carefully remove the motor from the bearing housing. You must not to allow the
motor shaft or the inner splines of the cutting reel to become dirty. If the motor shaft or the inner splines become
dirty, remove all of the grease to clean the splines. Lubricate the motor and reel splines with Shell Malleus JB1
Grease Part number MBE3927 before you assemble the motor again.
REMOVAL OF HYDRAULIC MOTOR
To remove the hydraulic motor, remove the two screws and washers that hold the motor to the bearing housing.
Carefully remove the motor with the cardan shaft.
NOTE: When you remove the motor, the cardan shaft and the inner splines of the motor and cutting reel shaft
must not become dirty. If the motor shaft or the inner splines become dirty, remove all of the grease to clean the
splines. Lubricate the motor and cutting reel shaft with Shell Malleus JB1 grease before you assemble the motor
again.

STANDARD FOOT BRAKE AND BRAKE BANDS - SERIES JZ, JN, JP_________
Adjust so that both brakes lock equally when the foot pedal
of the parking brake is pressed. Loosen the nuts A and turn
nuts B on the two cables (Fig.20). Adjust the nuts A (Fig.21)
for each wheel. The two brake bands must not touch the
brake disc when the parking brake is disengaged.

HEIGHT OF CUT ____________________________________________________
First you set the rear roll parallel to the bottom blade
(bedknife). You set the minimum-height of cut setting for the
three ranges of height. Adjust the setting with the three sets
of holes in the mounting housing (D) at positions 'A', 'B' and
'C'.
Setting the minimum height with the mounting housings (D)
in position 'A' allows a parallel-minimum height in positions
'B' and 'C'. Select the range and set the correct height of cut
when you adjust the front roll carriage screws (F) and
locknuts (J).
TO SET REAR ROLL
Use a new bottom blade (bedknife).
1. Set the height of cut setting bar (G) shown below:
a.Screw X to 12 mm under the head.
b.Screw Y to 6.5 mm to screw thread tip.
Note:The difference between screw X and screw Y is 5.5
mm.

Set the roll carriage mounting housing (D) bolts into
holes 'A'.
Put the setting bar (G) as shown at one end of the
bottom blade with the screw head X over the lip.
The screw thread Y tip must touch against the base
of the blade.

locknuts (H) hold the setting bar screws in
contact.
5.
Repeat for other end of bottom blade (bedknife).
TO SET HEIGHT OF CUT
Select the range of height in which the machine will cut.

procedure shown below:
a.The screw X is set to the height of cut needed
under the head.
b.The screw Y is not used.

At one end of the bottom blade (bedknife) put the
setting bar (G) on rear roll. Make sure that the
screw head is over the bottom blade lip.

Adjust the front roll to the setting bar with the two
front locknuts (J).

CAUTION
The height of cut range for each set of holes
is set from the requirement of the cutting unit
to float. An increase in the maximum height of

CUTTING CYLINDER TO BOTTOM BLADE ADJUSTMENT _________________
Make sure that the cutting cylinder is installed in position
with the bottom blade correctly. Hold a piece of thin paper
between the edge of the blade and the spiral cutters and
turn the cylinder manually.
If the cut on the paper is smooth along the full length of the
bottom blade, then the adjustment is correct. If the cut is not
smooth, the blade must be adjusted. MAKE SURE THAT
THE CYLINDER IS TIGHTENED TO THE CORRECT
LEVEL. If the cylinder is worn, you need to backlap the
cylinder before the adjustment.
To adjust:
1. To adjust the cylinder to the bottom blade, lift and turn the
left and right handwheels (A). Make sure that the cylinder is
adjusted equally between left and right. Rotate in a clockwise direction to add to the level of cut. Rotate in an
anticlockwise direction to remove the level of cut. Turn the handwheel until it engages with the notches in the ring
that locks the cylinder. The adjuster has notches and each notch moves the cylinder by approximately 0.04 mm
(0.0015 inch).
THE ADJUSTMENT HAS A SELF-LOCKING MECHANISM. THERE IS NO REASON TO UNLOCK OR LOCK
THE MECHANISM.
IMPORTANT:
IN ROUGH GROUND CONDITIONS YOU NEED TO SECURE THE NUTS IN POSITION. SECURE THE
BEARING HOUSINGS TO THE SIDE FRAME. THE HOUSINGS RUN IN ADJUSTMENT SLOTS THAT KEEP
THE CYLINDER TO THE ADJUSTMENT SETTINGS FOR THE BOTTOM BLADE. THE ADJUSTMENT
DEPENDS ON THE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH THE MACHINE. THE NUTS MUST BE TIGHTENED
COMPLETELY AND LOOSENED BY 1/2 A TURN. ADJUST THE HANDWHEEL AND DO NOT LOCK THE
NUTS.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRAMMER SEATS _______________________
You must not adjust your seat when you drive.
• After removal of the backrest upholstery, the backrest frame must be held in position with a support before the
backrest adjuster is operated. If you do not secure the frame in position safely, the backrest frame can move
forward suddenly and cause injury.
• If changes are made to the seat, the changes must be aligned with the series standard of the seat. If
GRAMMER does not approve the parts that are installed in the seat, the seat will not have the correct safety
standards.
• The functions of the seat will not operate correctly and the safety of the seat is decreased. All changes made
to the seat must be approved by GRAMMER.
During the removal and installation of the GRAMMER driver seat, the instructions supplied by the vehicle
manufacturer must be followed correctly.
• When you lift the driver seat, do not hold the covers. The covers can break if held when the seat is moved,
which can cause injuries.
• Before you remove the driver seat, disconnect all plug-in connectors between the seat and the vehicle supply
network. When you replace the plug-in connectors, make sure the connectors are tight so that dust and water
does not enter.
• To fit new seat belts to the driver seat of the vehicle, the manufacturer must approve of the belts that are
installed. The belts can increase the load in the seat mounting area.
• To fit new seat belts to the driver seat of the vehicle, the belts must follow local safety regulations and
guidelines. GRAMMER must approve the belts that are installed.
• Installed seat belts must be fastened before you drive.
• The seat belt must be replaced after an accident.
• After an accident with a vehicle that has seat belts installed, the seat and seat mounting must be checked by
the safety personnel.
• The fasteners on the seat must be, checked to make sure that the seat is installed in position tightly. If the
seat is not installed tightly, there can be loose bolts or other faults.
• If the seat does not operate correctly, the seat must be repaired in a workshop. Check the seat for damage to
the seat suspension and bellows or for an incorrect curve in the lumbar support.
• If you do not correct problems that occur in the seat, the seat can damage your health and increase the risk of
an accident.
• Before the vehicle is used, the load sensor installed in the seat must be checked to make sure that the sensor
operates correctly. The sensor can stop the operation of mechanical equipment when the driver leaves the
seat.
• If a problem is found, you must not drive the vehicle. – INCREASED RISK OF ACCIDENT –
• Do not put the loads on to seats that have a load sensor. A load on the seat can cause the vehicle to start to
move when the driver seat is empty and cause an accident. – INCREASED RISK OF ACCIDENT –
• If you drive the vehicle and remove the weight from the seat, the vehicle will stop.
• Do not indent the bellows while there is a load on the driver seat. – RISK OF INJURY FROM BELLOWS –
• Make sure that dirt and liquids can not get inside the drivers seat.
• The driver seat is not waterproof and must be protected against water.
• Any changes or adjustment work done on a GRAMMER driver seat must be done in authorised workshops by
approved personnel. The changes must follow the operation instructions and must be in compliance with all
national regulations.
• Incorrect installation and assembly hold the risk of personal injury or property damage. The product warranty
will not protect the correct function of the driver seat or the mounted parts.

SEAT (GRAMMER MSG85) ____________________________________________
WARNING
The Operator Weight must be set to the actual weight of the Operator. Safety Systems will be
compromised if this is not done.
The seat can be adjusted for operator's weight and leg reach to provide a comfortable position for
operating the machine.
1.
ADJUSTMENT FOR OPERATOR WEIGHT
To Adjust:
Rotate knob (A) to the right to increase the operator
weight setting. Turn to the left to decrease the
operator weight The set weight is indicated on the
yellow face dial next to the lever. Set at the correct
weight of the operator before operation. Failure to do
so will compromise the machine safety devices.
2.
FORE AND AFT ADJUSTMENT
To Adjust:
The position of the adjusting lever is on the right hand
side of the seat below the seat cushion (B). By moving
the lever towards the seat, the seat can be slid
backwards and forwards. When in the desired position
release the lever to locate in one of the pre-set
positions.
3.
BACK REST ADJUSTMENT
The back rest has three preset positions
To Adjust:
The position of the release lever is on the left hand
side of the seat back rest (C). Move the lever upwards
to move the upper part of the back rest forward. Move
the lever downwards to move the upper part of the back
rest rearwards.
NOTE:The seat is fitted with a micro-switch to sense operator presence. When the machine is fitted with a ROPS
frame or cab a lap belt is fitted and should be worn at all times.

AIR SUSPENSION SEAT (GRAMMER MSG75 -521) ________________________
9.11.1 WEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ______________________________________________
To adjust the seat for the driver weight, pull or press the
lever for the seat weight adjustment with the driver on
the seat.
The driver weight is adjusted correctly when the arrow is
in the center clear area of the view window.
Within this view area, you adjust the specified height of
the driver to its minimum spring movement.
When you reach the minimum/maximum weight, you
hear the adjustment reach the upper or lower end stop.
The setting for each driver weight must be checked and
adjusted before the vehicle can be driven safely.
To prevent damage to the compressor during the weight adjustment, the compressor must be operated for less
than 1 minute.
9.11.2 FRONT AND BACK ADJUSTMENT _____________________________________
To release the front and back adjustment, lift the locking lever.
WARNING! Risk of accident!
Do not operate the locking lever when you drive.
WARNING! Risk of injury!
When you operate the lever, touch the lever at the grip
section. Do not reach back under the lever.
After the adjustment, the locking lever must lock into the
correct position with an audible click. The seat will not
move into another position if the lever has locked
correctly.
Do not lift the locking lever with your upper or lower leg.

To loosen the notches of the backrest adjustment, move the

After the adjustment, the locking lever must lock into the

9.11.9 MAINTENANCE _____________________________________________________
If there is dirt in the seat, the seat can operate
incorrectly. Make sure that the seat is kept clean.
To clean the upholstery, do not remove the upholstery
from the seat frame.
CAUTION: Be careful with the backrest - it can move
forward and cause injury. When you clean the
backrest cushion, the backrest must be held in
position when you operate the backrest lever.
Attention: Do not clean the seat with a pressure
washer!
When you clean the upholstery, make sure that the
upholstery does not become wet on each side.
Use a standard commercially available upholstery or plastic cleaning agent. Test on a small area to make sure
that it is compatible

11.1 PROBLEM SOLVING GENERAL ______________________________________________________

The glow plug has not turned off.
Set the ignition switch again and allow the glow plug to turn off
before you turn the engine.
Battery low on charge or has
defects.
Inspect the condition of battery and battery connections.
The fuel tank empty or fuel is

QUALITY OF CUT TROUBLESHOOTING_________________________________
Make a “test cut” to check the performance of the
mower before you start the repairs.
1. Cut (Ground) Speed.
This area must have turf conditions that are known
and do not change across the area. This type of area
allows an accurate inspection of the performance of
the mower to be made.
2. The Reel Bearing Condition And Adjustment
Before A Load (End Play).
Another “test cut” must be done after the repairs or
adjustments to confirm the mower performance.
4. Bedknife Alignment to Reel.
Before you do a “test cut” to show the cut appearance
and performance of the mower, the following items
must be confirmed. These items make sure that the
“test cut” is accurate.

5. Reel-to-Bedknife Contact.
6. Height-of-Cut (HOC).
7. Roller and Roller Bearing Condition.
WASHBOARDING __________________________________________________
Washboarding is a repeated pattern of different cutting heights, that causes an appearance that is like a
wave. In most cases, the wave tip-to-tip distance is
approximately 6—8 in. (15—20 cm).
A change in the colour (from light-to-dark) is also
seen. The cause of this condition can be a movement from side-to-side in the cutting unit (s). This
condition is found on the mowers with cutting units
held under the machine, but other causes can give
the same result.
Another cause of Washboarding is differences in the
type of turf.

STEP CUTTING _____________________________________________________
Step cutting occurs when the grass is cut higher on
one side of a reel than the other side. Step cutting
can occur when one cutting unit is higher than another cutting unit.
The wear of mechanical parts or an incorrect roller
or height-of-cut adjustment can cause step cutting.

HOC (height-of-cut) settings are different from one
side of a reel to the other side or from one cutting unit

The front roller bearings are worn.

unit to another side.
Check the contact between the reel and the bedknife.
The cutting reel can not rotate at full speed.

Machine weight distribution is not equal.

SCALPING ________________________________________________________
Scalping is a condition in which a areas of grass are
cut shorter than the adjacent areas. The area can be
light green or brown. A low height-of-cut (HOC) setting or turf that is not level can cause scalping.

STREAKS _________________________________________________________
A streak is a line of grass that is not cut. The cause
of a streak can be a damaged or bent bedknife.

Replace the bedknife.
The reel is damaged or the reel is worn at different
heights.
Inspect the reel. Replace the reel when the reel is

Check the bedknife screws. Tighten the loose
screws. Replace the screws that are not included.
The machine turns at a rate that is faster than the
machine can turn and cut correctly. The cutting units
do not overlap around turns or on side hills.
Turn less fast to allow the cutting units to overlap.
Change the direction of cut or pattern on the side
hills.
The tyres twist the grass before the grass is cut.
Check and adjust the tyre pressures.
The machine compresses the wet grass before the
grass is cut.
Cut the grass when the grass is dry.
