Universal Base-Sounder-Beacon
Installation Instructions
1. General
The Sonos Base-Sounder-Beacon is a high-efficiency (8mA) combined alarm sounder and beacon designed to accept a wide
range of conventional detectors. The tones are fully compatible with other 32 tone sounders in the Klaxon Sonos, Syrex and
Nexus ranges.
2. Installation
The base-sounder-beacon can be secured to a conduit box
or surface mounted. Base-sounders-beacons should be
located to ensure correct operation of the detector in
accordance
with
the
detector
manufacturer’s
recommendations and local regulations or codes of
practice. Note that the sounder is classified as a Type A
device according to EN54-3 and is only suitable for indoor
use (IP21C), and with supply voltages in the range 17 to
28V DC.
The base-sounder-sounder is designed so that separate
detector and sounder circuits can be connected.
IMPORTANT: Connect the sounder circuit before
attaching the detector base to the sounder to ensure
screwdriver access to the terminal blocks.
Connect the sounder circuit to the 2-way terminal blocks
(Fig. 1). After connecting the sounder circuit, attach the
detector base using the screws provided and connect to the
detector circuit as normal. The detector and sounder
circuits can be connected together for two wire operation if
a panel with this capability is being used. (E.g. Savwire
systems.)

3. Tone Selection and Volume Control
The tone is selected using the 5 way dipswitch on the PCB. Refer to the table overleaf for details of the available tones and the
switch settings required to select them.
The sound output of the unit can be reduced by adjusting the potentiometer on the PCB.

available which are fitted instead of the detector.
