INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS @ HY-C STOVE BOARD / FLOOR PROTECTOR 8 WALL SHIELD ND" 1. The HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector is intended for use with only UL Listed Solid Fuel Type Room Heaters or Fireplace Stoves. 2. A HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector is intended for use as a floor protector in place of one layer of 3/8°-thick millboard having a thermal conductivity of K=0.84 BTU in/ft hr F when specified in the installation instructions of the UL listed Fireplace Stove or Solid Fuel Type Room Heater. When the UL listed Appliance requires a thicker floor protector then 3/8" millboard the floor protector can be constructed by use of one additional Stove Board/Floor Protector for each 3/8” increment, or a combination of Stove Boards and millboard (having K=0.84 Btu int? hr F). If the stove board/floor protector or hearth extension material is specified as one layer of 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) thick millboard with a K factor of 0.84, the following calculations apply: C=K/ (thickness) = 0.84/0.375 = 2.24 for 3/8 inch thick millboard. R=1/K = 1/0.84 = 1.19 per inch, or R1t/C = 1/2.24 = 0.45 for 3/8 inch thick millboard. An alternate common brick with a K of 5.0 would require a thickness as follows: Required thickness = (K of brick/K of millboard) x (thickness of millboard) Required thickness = (5/0.84) X (3/8 inch) = 2.23 inches of brick. 3. Refer to the Installation Instructions of the UL Listed Solid Fuel Type Room Heater or Fireplace Stove for the minimum floor area requiring protection for the installation of the Listed appliance. Protection of the area designated can be accomplished by the use of one or a combination of the following sizes of HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protectors: 28" X 32"; 32" X 42"; 36" X 36"; 36" X 48"; 36"X 52"; 18" X 48" or 48" X 48". 4. To join two or more HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protectors side by side, use HY-C Stove Board Connector Kit No- ULCK. This kit contains connector clips to join two of the largest HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protectors. (It may be necessary to clip and raise the metal lip of the HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector, at the edge only, to start installation of the clips. The clips may be gently tapped into place with a hammer. See Fig. 1). To prevent hot embers or coals from coming into contact with combustible construction below the joined floor protectors, the connector clips supplied with the HY-C Stove Board Connector Kit No. ULCK (CK-1) must be installed according to Stove Board instructions so that no combustible construction can become exposed after installation of the floor protectors. FACE OF 5. For Best Results, the HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector should be installed on a flat FLOOR solid surface. Carpeting and padding should be removed where the floor protector is re intended to be installed. 6. The HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector must not be cut or trimmed. 7. If an electrical blower is used in conjunction with the UL Listed Fireplace Stove or Solid Fuel Type Room Heater, HY-C Grounding Kit No. ULEG is required to ground the HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protector and electrical blower in accordance with the National Electrical Code. CLIP FIG. 1 8. When using the HY-C Stove Board/Floor CLEARANCE REDUCTION CHART Protector as a wall shield, they are to be installed to provide continuous protection from the floor to within 1 to 3 inches below the ceiling. - CAUTION: Maintain a 1 inch minimum to a 3 inch maximum air space between the top of the wall shield and the ceiling. When using HY-C Stove Board/Floor Protectors as a wall shield, as described here, the minimum clearance to the black wall marked on UL listed solid fuel room heaters my be reduced to a maximum of 58 percent, providing the reduced controlling clearance was not less than 12 inches. Controlling clearance is the minimum clearance which locates that part of the room heater assembly (chimney connector or back of unit) closest to combustible construction. Example: 36” required could be 15". See Clearance >, — NIT WEL Reduction Chart to the right. JL WALL — — + + aus PROTECTOR 9.
