Introduction
This utility looks at all styles that have been marked as web items and that have stock status checking
enabled. A UPC is marked as NWI if it is considered out of stock based on stock checking rules and the
rule is set up to not allow the item to be added to the cart. When on-hand is replenished, the utility removes
the flag.
The utility flags individual UPC/SKUs as NWIs (non-web items) in the product record if the stock level is
considered to be ‘out of stock’ based on stock status checking rules. The purpose of this is to prevent the
out-of-stock UPCs from being visible on the web as an item for sale. It is also convenient for setting
seasonal or unique items as non-web items.
If all sizes and colors for a style are out of stock, the entire style is removed from web visibility. This saves
time at the end of the season as end-of-season merchandise is automatically removed. At times, however,
styles may disappear from web view that you do not actually want removed. The log that is created helps
you identify those styles that have disappeared from web view.
The Stock Check/Web Item Utility should be set up in StarComm Scheduler so that it will run when QOH
(quantity on hand) is most accurate:
For single stores - just prior to communications with your i.STAR store
For multi stores - between the first and second pass of each polling between your stores
Note: Once an entire style is no longer available as a web item, the Web Item option box on the style
record is unchecked; this box will not be automatically rechecked if inventory comes in stock.

Running the Utility
The SQLBase server must be running when this utility is used. If you attempt to use it without SQLBase
running, this error message will display.
To run the iStar NWI Utility on demand, navigate to C:\Program Files\iStar Utilities and double-click on
IStarStockNWI.exe. The Checking Stock window displays indicating the NWI flags are being updated.
When the process is finished, a log file is created (i.e., NWIReport-10-25-2002.log) and placed in the
C:\Program Files\iStar Utilities folder. If you prefer that the log file be written to another directory, first
create a shortcut to IStarStockNWI.exe by right-clicking on it and selecting Create Shortcut from the popup list. Then right-click on Shortcut to IStarStockNWI.exe and select Properties. When the Properties
window displays, click the Shortcut tab. In the Start in edit box, enter the directory where you want the log
