DC Energy - Rectifier
ALPHA Chargers offer all necessary features to expertly charge Lead-Acid (Pb)and Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd)
batteries, insuring them an extended life. They cover the most common DC voltages between 12 Vdc and 240
Vdc. Their range allows comfortable power for the application and is also suitable for long autonomy systems.
Intended to be integrated in cabinets or in panel-boards, they constitue along with batteries DC power supplies with
back-up for sensible units in continuous process installations (i.e. PLCs, coils, valves…). ALPHA modultes can also be
configured in DC power supplies, with an adjustable output voltage. ALPHA chargers can be associated to Quartz
supervisor, offering to the user a total freedom on battery parameters. Quartz supervisor I/O extension provide an
interface to surveillance and protection controllers.

Functions
It is highly recommended to limit the current flowing to the battery during charge to 10% of the
battery capacity in Ah. A built-in separate current regulation allows Alpha rectifier to adjust the
current to the battery whatever the current flowing to the load. This adjustment is accessible
through a potentiometer on the front panel.
Even though Alpha rectifiers are preset for common batteries, it is possible to correct output voltage
by +/-5% by means of a potentiometer located on the front panel.
To speed-up battery charge, it can useful to apply a higher voltage for several hours.
Alpha rectifiers feature a boost function that rises the charging voltage by 3.8%. This function is
activated by strapping two connector terminals.
Alpha rectifier can be stopped by a remote contact. This static stop is activated by strapping two
connector terminals.

Alpha rectifiers voltage or current can be driven, by an external potentiometer. Settings cover the
range from 0 to 100% of the nominal current, and from 0 to 125% of the nominal voltage.
Signalling
Status of the charger is indicated by a LED and a dry contact summarizes faults.
